I had gastric bypass in Jan 2015. My starting weight was 250, and I am now down to 184. Part way to my goal. I made this hard decision after my diabetes was out of control. I was on the insulin pump, and just was gaining weight. I have 2 children and knew I wanted to be around for them. 4 day after surgery, I was off my insulin pump and now 7 months after surgery, I only give my shots if necessary. I have only had 3 insulin injections since surgery. My blood sugar is now in the 80's or below. I am very happy with my progress. But still have some work to do.

I went to see my surgeon on Thursday and I was told I had to maintain my wait at 190lbs , I am 5lbs away!!! How am I supposed to do that when I still have 3 months of nutrition classes left??? I told the Nut but she said I could go down to 185lbs. I don't want to get denied so I rather stay a 190lbs. What do you do to maintain your weight?

I'm nervous and excited to finally have my procedure this Friday! I start my liquid diet tomorrow and don't have a lot on hand for post-surgery. I haven't been able to identify products online that I'll enjoy, so I welcome your suggestions. I just don't want to find myself in a weakened state with not all the right things in hand. Please share. ????

I'm just about 3 months out and I've gone down from size 26/28 to 20/22. I've decided that it's time to get rid of some of my clothing, but I'm not sure I want to take it to the Goodwill. I've been there in an attempt to find transition wear and I haven't really had much luck, so donating it would be helpful to anyone like me, who needs transition clothes after surgery. But I also hate for someone to have to pay for clothing that I'm no longer using so..... If anyone lives in the Inland Empire and needs clothing in sizes 24-28, it's yours. I've already donated some, but I have, you can have for free. Contact me and we can set something up.

Hi.... My name is Yelitza and I'm a type 1 diabetic. I have been a diabetic for 29 years. I've been on the insulin pump for 7 years. My weight prior to the pump ranged between 170-190 lbs. I'm 5'8". Ever since I've been on the pump my weight has been creeping up on me slowly. My highest weight was 258 on April 2 which was my first office visit with the bariatric surgeon. I'm currently at 242 with the help of trulicity. My endo has been talking to me about my weight gain for the past three years. I was on victoza prior and lost 30 pounds. I stopped taking it because I felt it wasn't having the same affect on me gained the weight that i had lost plus 15 lbs more. Now I have…

Hello I'm a young 32 year old woman who's battled weight my whole life. After starting a journey towards weight loss surgery in 2008 I have finally achieved it just past a week ago. Got RNY, laparoscopically, finally getting back to feeling human again. I'm down 5lbs so far and feeling good. I've had a difficult time healing due to a hysterectomy and bypass in the same surgery. So ready, and happy to have finally started this chapter my book of life!

Lou Schopfer is a married father of two who had bariatric surgery at Penn in July 2014. Since then, he has lost 110 pounds and has discovered new activities to keep fit, including a fitness program at Penn Medicine called Fitness Now. In this post, he shares his story and what has made his weight loss a success. I grew up as the youngest of six kids, in a Christian home filled with the fundamental values of faith, family, fellowship, friends and fun. Like other families, we had our share of ups and downs, and fitness was never a priority for us. We didn’t have a lot of funds to spend on activities or time discussing a healthy diet. sleep apnea. I tried every diet and w…

I was banded may 2013. My first year went like textbook. i lost a total of 81 lbs and felt great. But than problems started and july of 2014 my band was emptied and stayed empty for a year. My surgeon didn't want to put any fill in do to the complications i had. We discussed revision and on july 31,2015 i was revised to a gastric bypass. Surgery was difficult due to adhesions and scar tissue. When the band was placed i had gone to surgery to have a bypass but that surgeon couldn't do it do to the scarring. When i was in the recovery room the first words out of my mouth were ,what type of surgery? if he couldnt do the bypass i signed papers for a sleeve. but he wa…

Yes... my last 3 post have been about this so called stall I'm in. Tomorrow will mark 3 weeks I've been at the same weight. It's gotta be something you can do to put your body into go mode again. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow and I keep being told the first 6 months is when you lose the most weight. How is that possible going at the rate I'm going?!? And yes I am following my diet and exercising 3/4 days a week!!!!

Today is the day!! I have struggled for 13 years, I have prayed and prayed for God to help me and I believe that the sleeve has been His answer. Thank you everyone for all of your vulnerability on this site. I have learned more from you than from anyone. What an answer to prayer this has been. No nerves yet, just pure excitement. I am 6 days post-op from VSG. I have had a great experience so far. The surgery and recovery were really unremarkable. Some pain from the gas and bloating the first evening, but by the next day I was much better. I had some leg cramping for a couple of days but some gatorade g2 fixed that right up and I have had some nausea, but nothing that Zofran has not been able to handle. The diet has been very bearable since I am not really hungry at all. I am back at work today full-time and feeling good. I am down 14 pounds so far. I am really still in shock that I finally had the surgery that I have been praying about for several years now. It feels like a dream come tr…

I'm glad I found this forum because to be honest I wasn't impressed with the people in my Weight Loss Seminar: Now do I approve of surgery for somebody just needing to lose ten pounds? No...Seriously that did happen in my weight loss seminar. There was a woman just needing to lose ten pounds wanting bariatric surgery. She complained about her back aches and knee hurting. Yes I know extra weight is no fun. But to be cut open just to lose ten pounds in a blink of an eye is not a good idea. One guy started yelling when he found out he couldn't smoke marijuana afterwards and not be issued medical marijuana. One woman's cell phone kept playing annoying music throughou…

I was sleeved 3 months ago on May 11th. However, my journey actually began in 2011 when my doctor suggested that I consider a lap band. Unfortunately, I was injured and the next 4 years was devoted to healing & regaining my mobility. Mid year last year I finally was able to take steps to continue on my journey. I have to admit, although weight loss was a great benefit, it was not the reason I decided to pursue the sleeve. I am diabetic and my A1C continued to rise, despite the medications. Looking at my family history I knew I would be destined for multiple insulin shots each day unless I was able to get it under control. Pre-surgery my fasting glucose on medica…

That is the question that I have been asked many times in my life. What about that diet you were on? Actually when I was in fifth grade living in New York, I did a science project and made it to the state finals. My topic was "what about that diet you were on".My research was on fad diets and how long people stay on them. I showed that statistically 95% of the people on diets went back to their normal eating behaviors. So here I am approaching 40 and I just quit another diet of juicing. I am exhausted mentally and so tired of thinking about what I'm going to eat, how much I eat and how fat I am. I look at myself in the mirror at least 20 times a day but for some reaso…

Geez! I've heard of getting irritable and depressed. I just had no idea how bad it is. I thought I've been through hell. Of course I could handle it. YA RIGHT! I'm not depressed but I'm so freaking cranky! Slightly weak as well. Mostly I just can't hold back what I really think. I'm usually a happy go lucky sweet person. NOT NOW! I think the surgery took my niceness with the stomach! Anyone else experienced this!? ????

My name is Justin Wiseman. I would love to share my story with you. I have been bigger than everyone around me for as long as I can remember. I have my report card from kindergarten and there in black ink under my weight is 100 lbs. Wow, 100 lbs at 5? All the doctors my mom took me to said I would grow out of it, but the only thing I grew out of was my pants. Well actually jogging pants because that was the only thing my mother could find to fit me. Food was my world, it was my everything. It made me happy and took all the pain away. By the time I was in middle school I was over 250 pounds, and when I graduated high school I was over 400 pounds. After high school I pretty…

I have been waiting for about a month to get my approval. My surgeons office told me today it's going to take another two weeks to schedule my next appointment/pre-op diet/ surgery date. I was flooded with emotions when she told me I was approved. I'm nervous, scared, excited, grateful. Most of my family and friend are against this surgery. Thankfully my mom is supportive. Having four kids I think everyone is scared I'm going to die. It does cross my mind. But I want to be healthy for them. I want this hunger and tiredness this sluggish feeling to go away. I wish I could do this alone. I wish I could make them happy and not need this surgery. But I've done all I can do. I…

I started this journey in January(260), and was sleeved on June 15(240), I am currently down to 206. I have really had no major problems except for right after surgery I was sick for two days. After that I could drink again and was a lot better. I have gotten sick a few times from eating thing to quickly, but really I have had an easy go at this. I am feeling great and have so much energy!! I visit the gym and fast walk about 2 miles on treadmill in about 30 mins., use the bike for about 4 miles in about 25 mins, and just got released to do strength training at my last check up, so I do about 20 mins of weights. Loving that I went through my closets and drawers and h…

Just sleeved on 8/19 and I had the best surgeon in Maryland. So far all is well. I was discharged on Friday and was on a clear liquids for 2 days. As of today I started the full liquid diet which I can now have low fat plain yogurt, cream soups and 1% milk. My dinner tonight was cream corn soup w/no corn bits at all by Dole. It was sooooo good. Well, so far so good. Pain is but a dull ache if I bend or turn certain ways. When I eat/drink I have to wait a few seconds in between as I can literally feel the food entering into my stomach and I can hear it as well...lol...little gurgling sounds. I get little tingles of what feels like hunger pains from time to time. Not sure…

Well.. I was gonna Celebrate post 100 by suggesting that all the Southern Hemisphere folk get together and run amok while all the Northerners sleep. However, I've decided to be a whole lot more self-indulgent.. Now, this is the first time I'm posting pics or numbers so I'm finding it VERY confronting Anyway, here goes. I'm a big dude.. Big!! In the first pic (below) I was sitting at around 240kg (530 pounds).. See... BIG!! This was in December last year. Rock bottom came around the end of January. At this stage I'll not give the gory details, but rest assured it involved, a breakdown, tears and thoughts of just letting go and disappearing... I'd had my surge…

Last year I went to my pcp for a physical. When I read the report I was described as morbidly obese. I weighed in at 303 lbs with a BMI of 43. I have tried many diets and lost, regained, lost, regained. I decided it was time to change my life and started researching WLS. This journey started in June 2014. I went to one Weight Loss center and felt pressured into having the surgery. At my initial consultation I met with the bariatric coordinator and she was already asking me what surgery I wanted. This raised some red flags and I moved on. My PCP recommended a dr at Rex Bariatrics in NC. I then continued my research and started reading posts on the various forums. I schedul…

I feel great!! I am down 15 lbs!! (The last day i weighed myself was a couple days into my pre op diet). I have very little pain which is awesome!!! i can handle about a 1/4 of a cup of chicken broth at a time. Popcicles are good so far. I tried jello but it didn't settle very well so i will wait on that. Only a few days left and i can switch to the full liquids! Yaaay!! Just wanted to post to show that it's not that bad. I do have some cravings but i think it's just because i know i can't eat it right now. But at least they are healthy cravings I wish the best of luck to everyone on this journey!!! Keep your eye on the prize!!!

Hi everyone, I asked this question in the Post Op forum, I decided to ask again to those who had their surgery a little longer than I had mine. Are you all able to drink from a straw? And if so, are you having any problems? I find myself getting gas when I drink out of a bottle or cup. My stomach starts to rumble really bad throughout the day. Thanks

I had a RNY gastric bypass surgery on 16 May 2013. As I worked my way through the recovery process, I decided to publish a short article called "How I Survived Bariatric Surgery". It is available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf This is my before and after photograph at around the 6 month mark. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Operation.jpg Since I am now 27 months post-op, I felt it was time to publish an update to the original document. It is called "How I Survived Bariatric Surgery, Part II". It is available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf I have been in the "Maintenance" phase for 20 months now. Now that I know it's actually happening I'm excited and petrified at the same time thinking is this the right move or not it's like I'm scared to take that final step forward after going back and forth with this idea for practically years! Hi I'm Lisa. I've been waiting for about 15 years for a chance to have the gastric bypass and finally it's here. It took 4 months to pass thru all of the doctor and insurance hoops and now I'm finally four days till surgery. I honestly never thought I'd get the chance to say that so I feel so very blessed that I can now. I'm a bit anxious but I think it's because I've wanted it for so long. I've seen first hand others succeed and fail with this tool so I feel like I'm well prepared. Still I wish I had known about this app sooner. Really could have used the support. I'm here now and can't wait to make some new friends and learn even more about this God given journey.

My surgery date was 1/22/15...7 months post-op gastric sleeve. My pre-surgery weight was 260...current weight is 205.4. I'm beyond frustrated with this process. I get between 60-80 grams of protein in daily, run/walk 2 miles daily (in 30 minutes), or I am on the elliptical for 30 minutes reaching at least 2.4 miles, I'm making great food choices and measuring what I eat about 1/2 cup (depending on what I'm eating) I drink 87 ounces of water daily. I have spoken with the nutritionist and she says "it happens slowly for some people". Slowly? I have literally lost 1lb in the last 3 weeks...5 lbs in the last 2 months. I don't know anyone this has happened to and this is not…

Well I'm 8 months out of surgery... The past 3 months I had gained 9 pounds of the 55 I had lost back.. 2 weeks ago I realized what I was doing and quickly made a change. It have successfully lost that 9 pounds again and I am going to continue on the right path. Anyone else do this? I'm ashamed of myself, but still love me. Lol I don't know what I was thinking. I would rather have 2 cookies for breakfast that 2 eggs... I still do not over eat. Just made terrible choices of what to eat!! Still remained soda free. So that is a plus. Anyways kicked it in high gear at the gym. I still think I can get the last 45 pounds off by Nov. to hit my onderland by my 1yr sleevaversary. …

I'm so irritated every evening when my family eats dinner. I room with my brother, his wife and daughter. Tonight it's the smell of fried fish. I'm 4 weeks out. I know they can eat whatever they want but it really bugs me... I hate that finding something tasty to eat has been such a chore. I'm so over this stage! I'm totally venting but I also don't like having the attention or like what I eat is on display.. For instance was out with friends this week and I ordered omelet at restaurant and they thought it was big deal that I had 3 bites and felt full. It gets old explaining your new eating habits.
