Hello I decided to have bariatric surgery back in late February this year. I completed all of my pre-op hurdles and was originally scheduled for a gastric bypass in mid July. That's when the fun began. I was about a week into my liquid pre-op diet and began feeling very week. Turns out my doctors had me on a bad combination of medications and when I started the protein liquid it sent me into renal failure. That sent me to the hospital for two days until my blood work stabilized. It was primarily the drug combo that caused the problem. The protein diet just kind of set things off. After that I had to get additional clearance from a neurologist and another ultrasound…

Hi all, my name is Caitlin. I am 2 weeks post op and definitely grieving my relationship with my favorite comfort foods. I just started my puréed diet which is exciting because I could not stomach another bowl of broth. Anyway, I've been finding myself so emotional since my surgery. I cry at the drop of a hat. I blame it on my break up with food. Did anyone else notice this and did it eventually go away?

Every once in awhile I have a day that I feel completely insatiable. I seem to crave sweets? But I'm not sure if that's what I am craving because when I do eat them I don't like them. . No amount of food seems to satisfy me- I can only eat small portions so I have to keep eating throughout the day. I feel this urge, intense craving and I can't pin it down so I just keep trying different things!! I can't figure out why this happens. I am still trying to lose a couple more pounds so I've been keeping my calories about 1000-1200... Today I had 1600 which is the most I've had in weeks. Is this my body trying to tell me not to lose anymore? Am I dehydrated? Anyo…

Well, after almost a year of waiting, I was finally sleeved yesterday! Because I have sleep apnea I had to stay one night in the surgical center and am home today. I am surprised at how good and normal I feel! Certainly there is pain, but not what I was expecting. I can drink Water and Isopure with ease and am going to have some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth later today. i want to give a big thank you to this forum and all the post-op folks that have taken time to answer questions and tell their own stories! Hello All: Glad to be here and the journey continues. I started this journey, early 2000s, not knowing anything about WLS but that I wanted to loose weight. I was obsessed about diets and dieting, but nothing was working. I saw my co-workers getting the surgery and then loosing massive amounts of weight. It seemed like overnight, BUT it was not. I got accept for surgery right away and I thought that was great, but as I soon found out there are lost of classes to take and tings to learn before you find yourself on the loser's bench. well that was going too slow for me, and I got mad and decided I could loose weight with out the WLS and that all I needed to do was be strong…

Hello all! Back when I was 18 I had thought about having Gastric Bypass RNY done and had attended a seminar with both my parents. At the time I decided it wasn't for me, and that I wasn't entirely that big to need it. At age 21 I had matured a little and realized I wasn't loosing weight for the life of me (thanks PCOS) and threw my 2nd attempt at getting WLS done. My mother is 14 years post op and dropped down from 250-134/138 and is still maintaining this far out! So I grew up seeing the positive effects of WLS. Life got busy, one thing lead to the next and my military family was up to move again in the middle of my WLS journey PRE-OP. Fast forward, Im now almost 24 a…

Hello, I decided to share with others my journey and hoping for support back. I decided to have revision to sleeve after my lapband slipped after running a marathon last year. I was in the worst pain and was vomiting every 15 minutes. As a result I caught a taxi to hospital because I was out of town. I was in hospital for 2 days with tube down nose. Having revision to sleeve in December. Weight has stayed the same.

CAN YOU SAY HAPPY????? I had my sleeve surgery performed by Dr. Ramos Kelly in Mexico on May 25, 2015 and cannot imagine having a better possible experience and outcome! He is a highly experienced surgeon specializing in bariatrics with a background in trauma care as well. That was important to me in case i had any issues during the procedure. He was just tremendous in all aspects. I am now 1 week post op as of tomorrow and I NEVER thought i could possibly feel so incredible...so fast...after this procedure!! I have had ZERO issues whatsoever. I have lost 17 lbs since 4 days pre op. I feel AMAZING and will share further pre and post op details over the next fe…

So last year at this time I was meeting with my PCP to talk about options. I had another trip to the ER thanks to my asthma and allergies. After the meeting, set up my first appointment with the surgeon. Needed to wait the 6 months and lose weight. I was glad for this requirement and I think it has helped me in my success. Now here I am 1 year from my surgeon meeting and 6 months from my surgery. Down a total of 108.5 pounds as of this morning. Not at goal but getting closer each day/ week. I do not regret my decision and know its going to get easier. The first 6 months have been hard, but I would not change it for anything. I have never felt better in my …

Had Many many obsticles and by a literal freak coincidence I stopped by my surgeons office and They said hey do want to have surgery next week.. I was like aaahh Yeah I have been waiting 10 months... So I get schedueled for surgery the 13th of october and I do my Pre Op appointment with the Surgeon and Nutrition and I was asked a question. A question that up until this time I really didnt truthfully answer for myself... The question was.... Are you sure that this is what you want to do??? It was as if I had never even thought of th…

Hi all! My bariatric surgeon said I was at goal so I'm thrilled with that. I've lost 89% of my original body weight! Yay! My plastic surgeon has scheduled my arm surgery (bye bye bat wings) for 12/22/15! I'm so excited. I've been researching pain levels and recovery times and everyone says it's not that bad. If anyone has had their arms done, I'd be interested in hearing the details. Thanks so much! ????????????❤️❤️❤️

My name is Wendi and I'm 40 years old. I've been overweight my whole life and have tried every diet ever invented! Fortunately I don't have a single health problem other than being obese and I wanted to continue that. I was so thankful to hear I was approved for VSG because there comes a point when frustration and hopelessness kicks in when all other diets have failed. I had VSG on Oct 5th 2015 and can't wait to begin my new life. My preop weight was 282.4 lbs and I vow to never see that number again!

I am a 45 y/o female. I am a conglomeration medical problems. They all culminated in a trip to the ER in an ambulance for a strained back due to coughing caused by congestive heart failure. I knew that day that I had to do something about my weight. I slept 1-2 hours a night due to sleep apnea. I heard of this surgery that could help 80 percent of the problems wrong with me. I could not be cured because nothing cures bone growth or arthritis, but it could slow the progression of my disease. I had a consultation with Dr Awad in Palm Springs, and found my BMI to be 53 and weighed 270. He thought it would be simple to get my insurance to pay for my procedure. They fought…

I'm 1 week post op. Today was my hubby's birthday and where you'd assume that the struggle was being around celebration with food and cake there was non of that. My sweet husband wanting to keep things easy for me, didn't ask for anything and even took the kids with him to dinner without me so I wouldn't need to watch them eat. So I've been feeling like a terrible wife because I didn't have any gifts for him (haven't been able to go shopping) and there was no cake, no candles to blow out. I've cried several times feeling like a failure and my hubby keeps wiping away my tears telling me not to stress about it. It's been really tough

This past weekend I bought my first pair of size 12 jeans since I was in college. I'm pretty close to goal now (6 pounds to go), so I doubt I'll be getting down to a size 10. But then I see people who are still over 200 pounds fitting into size 10s. So I was thinking about how different body shapes and heights really affect clothing sizes. I've been in a size 10 dress since I was over 180, but even at 170 I'm only just NOW fitting into size 12 jeans. I carry so much of my weight in my hips and thighs! So for the sake of curiosity, please post your stats and what size pants you are wearing now. If you have photos, that's even better! My most recent gallery pics are unfortu…

I am only 19 years old and will be turning 20 by the end of this month. I decided to have this surgery about a month and a half ago and I've already completed my pre-surgery checklist. I should be able to schedule my surgery within the next few weeks. I've noticed that when I research the sleeve and success stories, not many of the sleevers are young like me. Is anyone else having this surgery in their early 20's? It would be great to connect with some individuals who made this decision at a young age such as I am!

I know it sounds silly, but I felt the need to post this. I don't even know if "speedbumps" is an accurate phrase, hence the quotation marks. 1. Last week at my son's back to school night, I sat in a high school desk.... without having to squeeze in, or even having my belly rub against the desk. I was actually quite comfortable. 2. I went to the county fair on Sunday and went right through the turnstile. No need to go through thw stroller gate. No need to get on my tippy toes so my behind could go over it. No need to suck it in so I could squeeze through. It was like finally beating my nemesis. 3. This morning I cross my arms and realized they were crossed over my…

Yep. It's 2 years since my sleeve next week. Hardly seems possible! Been maintaining a 90ish pound loss for about a year and 1/2 now. Went for my yearly fasting physical with my PCP yesterday (I don't see a bariatric surgeon anymore as mine left town). Only bad thing is I got to find out I don't "fast" well anymore! Got up at 4:20AM as usual. Did 45 minutes on my bike, drank LOTS of Water all morning prior to my 10 am appointment so my veins would be nice and plump for the vampire. I started feeling like crap (horrible headache, very tired, etc) by about 7AM. I typically do 1 egg and a piece of cheese right after the workout then a scoop of Protein powder in my coffe…

So - just a random post. I was sleeved by Dr. Ponce 9/30/2015. I will be honest; I was very, very apprehensive about having surgery outside the US. I have to say - so far - it has been an amazing experience! The Bariatric Pal staff were very supportive and helpful. The nurses were excellent! (Loved Mari!) And last but not least, Dr. Ponce!!! What a wonderful physician. We had pre-surgery consultations. Spoke to me for 45 minutes on the phone. No sense of rush or impatience. Very knowledgeable. Once in Mexico, he came and saw me everyday. Sat down. Took his time. Answered all of my questions. Provided me with a video of my surgery and my leak test. And has consulted with m…

Yesterday morning after my normal routine of weighing myself 3-4 times, I finally told myself Kisha this is crazy! So I finally got the nerve to throw away my scale. I had to throw it away and not just move it from the bathroom, otherwise I wouldve been just weighing myself where ever I moved it to. My 10yr old was like 'ma why you throwing the scale away? Is it broke?' and all I could tell him was it was breaking me.... He says 'whatever!' and takes it to the dump. The scale is gone!! But now this morning Im like how the hell am I suppose to weigh myself now and keep track of my progress??? Did I do the right thing throwing away the scale?? It was becoming an obsession a…

I'm starting in August of this next year. Threw hikers can do it in two weeks I am planning on four weeks. Great way to lose weight and get in shape. Cost is very cheap. What are your plans?

Ok, so I've had the surgery, things are going so well and I'm so happy. I'm still big and that's fine I'm just doing my thing and losing slowly but surely now. Here's the rant part...... Is it so freaking hard to make cute clothes above a size 14? I mean, I'm big not some lonely ugly shut in. I just started dating again and I want to wear some cute clothes. Everything in Lane Bryant or Catherine's is frumpy. Torrid is too cutesy or has too many skull and crossbones. Targets Ava and Viv is limited and really not that great. I just want clean, classic clothing. Quality timeless fashion. It's irritating, plus I'll be sharing with the two other women in my house who a…

I started the process in 2007. I was told to get counseling for the relationship i was in or leave it. I chose to get counseling. after a long 5 years of hell i decided to start the process again. It took me 3 more years to finally get my life back together and lose the weight i needed. Ups and downs are no joke when it comes to losing weight for me. I am now post op and have lost 60lbs total. I had surgery about 7 weeks ago and have lost 35 lbs or so. Totally worth it. I still think im dreaming and that I havent actually done it yet. All is well so far.

Hi everyone! My name's Elizabeth, I'm 24 years old. Growing up I was always tall and lanky...but when I turned 19-ish, a combination of stress/boredom eating (as a college student), along with daily medications I was prescribed (for mental illness), I started gaining weight----FAST. For the past two/three years I've bounced around diets. I must have started and stopped Weight Watchers half a dozen times. I tried a Slim Fast diet, and I tried Nutrisystem for 6 months. I'd always lose about 20 pounds, and then either plateau, leading to a frustrated me quitting. In 2014 I contacted my insurance company to see if weight loss surgery would be covered under my plan. It…

So, today marks my first month surgiversary as it has been four weeks since I underwent RNY. I have lost 25 pounds since surgery and with another 15 pre-op, that brings my grand total WL to 40 pounds. I don't know why but that number disappoints me (in me head) but my heart tells me I should be stoked. My head and my heart have never had the most compatible of relationships but they are working on being more cordial. I don't have much to complain about. I went back to work ten days post-op and have no issues with energy or GI problems. I did have some inconveniences with vitamins/timing/fluid intake/protein goals after going back to work. But as of today, I have wor…

Hello All, This is my first post but, Ive been reading the posts on this site for quite some time. I made my decision to pursue bariatric surgery about 6 weeks ago, but had been considering it for years. I have type 2 diabetes, taking oral meds and insulin. I started the insulin about 2 years ago and picked up 30 lbs in about 6 weeks. Im 43 and could actually retire from my job in 4 years, but I think I will stay for about 13 more years just to keep my daughter on my employer provided insurance until shes 26. We found out in May that she has Crohn's disease and weve been dealing with that. I have realized over the past few months that I have spent my entire life c…

Today is my one year surgiversary and as of my weekly weigh in yesterday, I have surpassed my goal by one pound. My starting weight at the beginning of this process was 260. I was 236 on my surgery date. And I am now 164. It's been a long road. The early days/weeks/months were rough. But for a long time now, I've just felt "normal". I eat 5-6 times a day. Always Protein first, but I occasionally have some treats. Juts yesterday I shared a piece of cake with my husband. I love not feeling deprived. If I want a treat of some sort once in a while, I have a little bit of it. I don't track my food or calories. The big thing to really get my head around through this whole pro…

It's been 13days now I'm still on liquids but I must admit I have been enjoying a few softs in moderation and taking my time, a few bites, & paying attention to my body. Through it all the hardest thing I've noticed so far is I feel like I'm not enjoying my food to its entirety. I want to just gobble it up take large bites cause I feel with the small ones I'm just not getting the satisfaction and not enjoying my food. It may sound crazy but it's true. I'm taking my time though...and saying as time passes and the more my body heal I'll be and feel more normal and be able to enjoy eating (healthy) and being satisfied????

Hi there! I am hoping to have gastric bypass in February. I have a good support group, though most family and friends seem a bit skeptical with comments like, "You know a lot of people gain the weight back." You know people can have complications after the surgery." "If you can't lose weight (and keep it off) NOW, what makes you think you can with the surgery?" I hope to educate those closest to me. I won't worry about those who aren't. Wondering how some of you have dealt with comments like these?
