I have decided to do my surgery in Mexico as a self pay. My insurance company is dragging its feet and frankly there are way too many hoops for me to jump through with my ridiculous schedule. I work in the oil and gas industry and by the time I comply with all of their requests I am going to be laid off anyway. So, one of my concerns is post operation care. I asked the consultant about this concern and was told that follow up care isn't really necessary??? Does that seem wrong to anyone but me?

So I'm still on soft foods and I was super nauseous the first three weeks and the last two days I've been feeling really good and my food is going down nice and so is my water and now I catching myself nibbling on things but I'm scared I'm starting to eat to much. I hate the protein shakes and my doctor said I need to get at least 50 g of protein but I've been eating more so I get 75-95g, what is everyone's suggestions because I don't want to eat a lot but I hate the shakes

Two amazing things happened to me today. first my surgery date was moved from October 26 to October 13. And second I was informed that I have no pre-op diet to follow. I was not expecting this. I thought I would have to do some sort of two-week liquid thing before my surgery. Now I find out I don't! that being said. I am going to have a very clean diet two weeks prior just so I can make sure the liver is in the right condition etc.

Being overweight is a shared trait in my family. I've struggled... we've all struggled our whole lives... My sisters and I were trying to talk my father into getting weightloss surgery. He was too ashamed and embarrassed to ask his doctor about it. He thought that he should've been able to do it himself, and that asking for help would make him weak. This past May he passed away in his sleep. He was only 58. There is no doubt in my mind that this surgery would have saved his life. My dad should still be here. In the midst of this heartbreaking time in my life, I've discovered I was just like him. I love my dad (he will forever be my Superman), and I never in a million y…

Ended up in the ER, little stay in the hospital due to blocked intestines about 2 weeks after surgery. Well hydrated, eating only purée & watching what I was eating turns out I have some inflammation & swelling - hopefully not permanent - which ended up creating blockages. Amazingly painful, takes X-Ray & CT Scans to figure out - not something you want to encounter. Back home & relaxing, on baby food and plenty of Water. Watch what you eat, drink plenty & listen to your body!

Hey there...I am three months out, rny. I have not had dumping syndrome at all. Aside from throwing up three times because I ate too much and the food wouldn't go down. But I've tried sugar and nothing. Fat, nothing. I'm kind of disappointed that I don't have that negative physical response that makes you never touch whatever it was ever again. But, I'm also relieved that I don't get sick. It's bittersweet. Does dumping rear it's ugly head later in recovery, or in the life long journey? Or am I just lucky and shouldn't question fate?

For all you single ladies out there, or ones in relationships that could be better... And even the married ones. This topic applies to all of us women who may have lost touch or never understood how to value ourselves. I've been doing a lot of thinking about self worth, what to look for in a potential partner, and how to make sure I respect myself and demand respect from others. When is was younger, I settled for men who were not good enough to be with. I did have standards for myself and I knew what I wanted in a man, but I never went for that. After a series of boyfriends who didn't respect me I settled for the first man to get serious about me. And that led to ye…

Hey I'm wondering how anyone feels about losing so much stomach. What if someday SOON doctors come out with another surgery and its much better then VSG where they won't have to remove 85 % of your stomach? I'm scared of feeling like OMG I could've waited , why didn't they say something about it? Why ? Why? Why? I'm just wondering because medicine is always advancing and coming. Out with new things and I wouldn't want to regret MY VSG . Thanks

I am one year and four months out from the sleeve procedure. Initially, the weight seem to have just fell off. Now, I struggle with weight loss. Thanksgiving of last year, I weighed 165 pounds. I currently weigh 170 pounds. Since last Thanksgiving I had gotten up to 178 pounds. I am a teacher and do not work over the summer and I ate more than I should. Since school has started back I have really been watching my eating and I have lost 8 pounds in about two months. I do not work out like I said, but I plan to get better. I am interested in possibly getting pregnant over Christmas break and want to lose as much as I can prior to pregnancy. I am thinking about going on a pr…

I thought I paid all my fees and today I received an email about protien shake cost and co-pay to go to the office for a meeting. Now I have an email that says the hospital will contact me the day before surgery about hospital fees. When I started the jouney I was told that my insurance was great and all I would have to pay is $400 for my surgery. Does anyone know about how much hospital fees are?

So my surgeons medical group wanted to do an article featuring his program for their foundation magazine and the surgeon and his coordinator recommended me for the article. I got to do a photoshoot and they interviewed me for the article. My surgeons office liked the pic so much they asked to use one for their new patient info packet. Wanted to share some of the pix! These were done two weeks post plastics (breast lift/Aug, tummy tuck and brachioplasty) so there's actually some residual swelling, but no complaints here. I've since chopped my hair to above my shoulders so I almost want to get another set of pix done, LOL, to show that off! SW 271 CW 135 Body …

Hello everyone! My name is Becca and I'm 33 years old and live in San Francisco, CA. I was previously banded on 10/01/2009 and had to get my band removed with my gallbladder on 05/14/2015. Since the surgery in May, I have gained about 20 pounds. I am supposed to have VSG on 11/12/2015 ... insurance permitting. I am so over feeling sad, anxious, and out of control during this waiting period. I am compulsively eating and trying to get it all in while I can. I was able to take off 100 pounds in the 5 years after my lap band surgery; mostly from working out and eating healthy. Now I just feel like that same 300 lb. girl, even though I'm still far from that. I …

Well exactly 24 hrs ago I had my vsg surgery. I'm surprisingly not in much pain now that I'm at home. I do have some soreness internally but my incisions don't really hurt. This sipping this is hard because every time I sip a gas bubble comes up and it doesn't feel good. But all in all I had a great surgery, surgeon said my liver was one of the leanest he has seen, I was his healthiest patient of the day, it was a textbook surgery, and he's extremely proud of me ????

I'm feeling.... Tired. Wls surgery has been a hard road for me. And I'm scared too. It's all too much to write here but suffice to say I've had a complicated path. I now have a sleeve and I also have a stricture in the middle of my sleeve. I've had it dilated once. I'm pretty much at goal. My goal keeps dropping. I'm scared to stop trying to lose. I thought 125 was my goal but now it's 115. I'm pretty sure that's as low as I'll go. I'm TERRIFIED of regain and of falling back into old habits and patterns. My stricture makes it very difficult for me to eat many things. I didn't do well with vegetables and meats. For months I thre up everything I ate!! Now I've dis…

My family, mainly my mom and ex-husband, have been commenting that I'm obsessed with my weight loss. They say it's all I ever talk about or think about and they think I should move on. Well, it's been 9 months since my first surgery. And before that I spent 6 years being fat and hating myself. I didn't take care of myself, I couldn't wear nice clothes or heels, men looked right past me, women felt sorry for me. I was told by my mom and my ex what a mess I was and how sad it was I'd let myself go on a repeated basis. I was basically living in despair. I wake up everyday now and feel like I've won the lottery. I love having my picture taken, buying and wearing the lat…

Hey everyone, two weeks ago I was feeling great & starting to do more than I probably should have but I have four small kids & I hate having a messy house, well I hurt myself one Saturday when I jumped up fast off a couch when someone came running in yelling my name that my daughter was hurt (she wasn't it was a joke) and since then I have been so sore I can barely bend, sit down, walk around or even lay on my side without feeling like my insides are burning or a stabbing feeling, I see my surgeon Friday but hoepfully someone can encourage me because my weight loss has slowed down too I lost 20 pounds by three weeks and now I have only lost another 6 pounds since

Hi! From Texas here. My surgery will be end of October, first part of November. Been battling my weight for 23 years, well really all my life, it just got completely out of control 23 years ago. I have arthritis really bad and it has gotten worse lately. About 2 weeks ago my doctor told me I would be in a wheelchair and on morphine if I didn't get gastric bypass surgery immediately. I'd been thinking about it for 14 years, so finally I started the path of qualifying for the insurance, making sure I understand what to expect. I don't know what to expect. My surgeon recommended this website and it looks like you have a great support group going here and I hope to be a part…

This is my forever companionship. I am realizing that I need to be mentality and emotionally. I am happy I made the decision to get sleeve October 2014. Starting wt. 215. I am now at 165. I have a confession. I do great during the day. Nights not so good. I blow my day. This is something I have not been able to break. Its emotional and habitual. I am going to be referred to a therapist. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. My goal is to lose my next 30 pounds! I have MS so my mobility is not good. I have to do this and I will !!!

I am just a few days shy of 6 months post op. Wednesday will be my 6 month post op date, my 1 year since starting the process date, and my 5 year wedding anniversary. I just wanted to give a little update and remind everyone that we are all different and will lose at different rates. I started my journey officially on Sept 23, 2014 and weighed in at 295 pounds. I was probably heavier before that, but hadn't gotten on the scale in a long time. I had already been trying to lose weight for about a month at that first appointment. Today, I am 204 pounds. I have days where I am disappointed. I wish I had lost more weight. I see other people that are already at their goa…

24 months ago I starting looking into WLS. And after 12 months of different appointment to talk over Lap bands and never felt comfortable with how quick I was told yes we can do a lap band, pay your deposit and you can be in next week. It felt like all the people I went to see was more interested in getting my cash than my health. I stopped looking into WLS and tried to diet determined I could do it. So the story started again lost and gained. lost weight again then gained more than I started off with! The final straw was three months ago when I was on a holiday in Sri Lanka and Dubai and I found myself deleting all the photos of myself because of the way I was loo…

I'm 15 days post op and my surgeon has me on liquids for the first 4 weeks, then puréed foods weeks 5-6. I was on liquid only for just 2 days prior to surgery, but 17 days on liquids has me feeling frustrated and deprived. I believe I'm going through a natural and necessary separation, but when will I stop fantasizing about the foods I used to eat??? God, I wish I could eat pizza or enjoy chips and salsa... I know I did this for my health and to change my life and I want to crave healthy options, not all the crap that got me where I am but that just isn't the case. It's almost scary to think what I'd do if I actually could eat these things right now. I'm frustrated with …

Today marks one year after the car accident that caused my brain to bleed and caused a hemorrhagic stroke. I was on my way to the dentist early that beautiful cool crisp September morning, and out of the blue, this car ran into me from the passenger side and totaled my brand new SUV, I had only had it for one month, I was in a rush because I was late for my dental appointment and I forgot to put on my seat belt, that why I believe I I was shook up so badly . I was able to get out of my SUV to look at the damages, I then called my husband to come up because I was feeling nervous and confused, the lady who ran into me got out her car too and examined her car, a police…
