I'm so overwhelmed. My surgery is a little more than two weeks away. And I think it's all finally kicking in. I've been working REALLY hard to educate myself and i literally feel like I couldn't be anymore prepared. But it's seriously emotionally draining. I KNOW I'm making the right choice so I don't really know why I'm this overwhelmed. I think it's because I can't believe I'm actually doing it. I never thought it would come to this. I just can't believe that I didn't take care of myself. How could I do this to my body? I put on weight physically but I've also put on weight mentally. I'm prepared to take the weight off all aspects of my life but just thinking about …

Hello I am 28 years old. I have always been overweight. I have also tried every diet with no success. I married my husband 8 years ago. We have been trying to have children since with no luck, was always told my weight was the problem. I found out in June I had PCOS and was told I would not get pregnant at the weight I was. So my doctor suggested surgery. I started this journey in June and weighed in at 346. My surgery is set for September 16th. I am excited and nervous. I am 7 days into my pre op liquid diet. It is going good for me, was a little ruff at first, I have not cheated. When I started the liquid diet I weighed in at 326. I walk/jog at least 2 miles a day. T…

Every time I drink or eat anything I get this intense pain in my stomach that's lasts for a few minutes. So Im 12 weeks out and Im losing the weight, although when I look in the mirror I dont see it. But my question is: Has anyone tried waist training? Do u think its too soon? I havent spoken to my surgeon yet, dont see him for 3 more weeks. And I dont feel as though I need to call him about this, figured I'd wait til I see him. But I was curious to know if anyone as tried/trying it. My midsection is the most stubbornest part of my body, and although its going down. Just not quick enough for me! Today is my two-year surgiversary! I started my pre-op diet on 9/1/13 at 237 pounds, went into surgery at 228 pounds, hit my goal weight in April of 2015 at 129 pounds, dropped to 126 pounds, and for the last several months I have floated around 129-132. I went to a surgery consultation the last week of August 2013 and decided I wanted a sleeve immediately. I was self-pay, so 2 weeks later I was in the OR. For the first 2-3 weeks I thought I had ruined my life, however slowly the weight came off, I got back to regular food, and life went back to normal. Last year I had three different plastic surgeries and I am just a little bit over a year out from the first one, 9 m…

HI everyone. I had my surgery on the 27th and wanted to share my journey and hear about your journey. Feeling better everyday. I had some gas and nausea the day of and after surgery. Still feel the gas, but not the nausea - thank god! I have no problems sleeping, walking or sipping Water. I have taken no meds since I have been home. Determined to not over do it, even though I feel good. I have wanted this so badly, so I am trying to stay positive mentally. But of course you hope that this process helps you be healthier long term and that the short term aches and pains are worth it. Have any of you driven yet? I want to, but I am going to make myself wait until …

I have been overweight all of my life, even as a toddler and I was a big baby. I've gone on just about every diet, exercise plan (including a gym with a personal trainer), and I've had some successes, but mostly failures when it comes to my weight. I was almost at a healthy weight right before getting pregnant with my first child (of 5), but during the pregnancy and an abusive boyfriend I gained almost 100 lbs. I lost most of it in a couple of years and got pregnant again and gained, again. I ended up marrying the love of my life from jr high and together we've had 3 more kids. He never says a negative thing about my weight. I've had a lot of battles throughout my life, i…

Hello! Heather from Tampa here! I will be 37 next month and today is my first full at home day post-op VSG. I had my surgery 4 hours South in Boca Raton Area by Dr. Shillingford. I have a medical background, so I understand most of what is going on and understand it, but it still doesn't change the fact that I am actually living it. The biggest issue I am having right now is the swollen abdomen and gas that is left to come out. I am on Percocet for pain, every 4 hours. They wanted me on a liquid pain med, but I do not tolerate that well, so it was either deal with a pill or throw up the liquid, so of course we opted for the pills. I had a rough day after surgery when I th…

I'm 6 months post op and not sure what is going on. I am experiencing major exhaustion after I eat. It doesn't matter what I eat, fruits, veggies, chips, doesn't matter. I HAVE to take a short nap. This started a few weeks ago and it seems to be getting worse. My desire to eat is getting worse too. I force myself to eat but things that I enjoyed even a few weeks ago taste bad. I literally am getting to the point to where I'm going all day without eating. It's either crash or not eat. I'm worried that it's becoming a major issue. Anyone else have this? I'm losing weight and things have been great until now. Please help

I had my surgery Friday, 9/4, and was a model patient in the hospital - walked my laps, sipped water and ice chips, was in great spirits overall. Discharged yesterday afternoon, I headed home and experienced intermittent highs and lows since. Expecting all food would turn me off at the thought - I was surprised this was not the case. My family has been eating and it all looks and smells so delicious! I have a feeling I may be starting to mourn food as I used to have it at my every whim and I'm trying to stay aware of this so I can deal with it in a healthy way. Countless times I've been inclined to taste a bite of pasta, take a nibble of cheese, tear a piece of tortilla.…

Background: I thought this would be a good place to start the story of my sleeve. I had my first appointment 8/20 (after being rescheduled from 8/27 due to an opening). I am 5'2 and weigh 225.8. I have no comorbidities but have had a BMI over 40 for the past 5 years. I work in a hospital that has a weight management program and by default have to use their services for insurance purposes (I'm fine with that). I am a married 47y/o female and have two younger children ages 5 & 7 as well as an adult son 27 and a 1.5 year old grandson. I have tried every diet out there and have been overweight since I was a child. I finally told my husband about scheduling an appointmen…

Hi there! I wanted to post a thread to all of you who are still out there wondering if this is the right thing to do. A few weeks ago I was one of you. I was still asking myself if I really should have the surgery. I just wanted to let you know how I feel now, almost 3 weeks out. IT WAS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF! Yes, I had the blues the first week or so, and the liquid diet has been the bane of my existance. But, I have to tell you, when you can visibly see the weight just dropping when you used to struggle so hard to even maintain a steady weight before - it's worth it. I also used to suffer from chronic fatigue. I would go to bed at 9pm, st…

Hi everyone. I am so happy I found this app as I am scheduled for lapband surgery on September 17th with Dr. Ren at NYU. This is the 3rd day of protein shakes and I have a wicked headache and of course, I am starving, lol. While I was at NYU yesterday ( I requested to meet with Dr. Ren one more time before I go in), there was a woman who was at reception and overheard her saying how happy she was with her results. I approached her and asked her if she got the band and she said, "I had the band taken out and had the bypass..the band doesn't work and didn't work for my friend..don't do it." I walked out of the office with tears in my eyes. I just need some reassurance from…

Hi I'm 8 days out and am down 14 pounds. However, I have absolutely no energy. I was cut open and had 38 staples which were removed day 5. My doctor said I could eat whatever I wanted to but take it easy. I haven't really done that though. I am having such a horrible time getting my protein in. When will I feel normal again? I just want to sleep and I can't do that with three babies.

I am really struggling right now. I have been stuck at 246-249 for several weeks ( I am 248 today) and I feel myself slipping into bad habits because of my frustration. I am eating too much and not the right things. I know this, yet I am still doing it. I also have zero energy to do anything, even clean the house, let alone exercise. I think my depression is rearing it's ugly head even though I am on medication. It's like a switch has been flipped. I was so happy to have lost 50 lbs and now that the scale isn't moving anymore, I am self-sabotaging. I am also not able to sleep more than 4 hours a night so I know that's not helping. I am so tired and unhappy lately. Even Lu…

I got my lap band at age 20. I'm now 24. 4 months after I got my band my clinic closed and I lost a lot of support. My journey with my band has been rocky but I persevered and have kept off 70 lbs over 4 years. I lost all my weight in the first year. It's been a challenge. There has been tears, starvation, over indulging, and panic. But, with each new experience I became more educated. I would love to share my experience /stories with fellow 'banded` people as we are all living through this experience together and I never got the opportunity to connect with other 'banders'.

I just finished my last appointment before I get to schedule my surgery today! I'm so excited and I have even lost some weight on my own. I have lived my whole life being over weight. I have had insulin resistance and PCOS for nearly half of my life. I thought I'd be more nervous after making this decision, but to be honest, I wish I could have the surgery as soon as tomorrow! I am definitely ready to simply feel healthy for the first time in my life! I hope to work very hard and truly use this surgery as my tool for success! I already have a gym membership in place and I've taken time off from school to really focus on myself. I can't wait to start my journey and join ev…

I am so disappointed in myself. I have gone from 290 date of surgery, March 16 2015 down to 235 as of today. The scale has not moved in 3-4 weeks. I eat about 1,000 - 1,200 calories a day. I'm not consistent with Protein or Water. I am failing myself. My stressful job keeps me occupied about 9am - 7pm. I don't exercise much, but am active on the weekends. I drink alcohol on the weekends, maybe 4-5 drinks a night, vodka and sugar free cranberry juice. I had my appendix out in late June and was out of commission for a couple weeks. My doctor already thinks I'm a failure, he said I'm not doing as good as other women have he has sleeved. I dread seeing him, …

I was lap banded in 2010. At first I was quite successful and lost about 80 lbs, then I had another baby and gained it all back and then some. I had almost given up hope when my DH strongly suggested<<<<pushed>>>> me into starting the fitness/inspiration blog that I've been meaning to do all along. I cannot be the only employee, mother, wife out there that is struggling to lose weight. This lap band journey hasn't been easy for me, and while I believe it can work if you work it, I cannot be the only one out there struggling. So this week I started my blog at http://www.fatgirltofit.com I thought I would connect with the forums that I used to…

I am still struggling (5 months out) to remember to eat slow, chew thoroughly, and take my vitamins. I also am still having trouble with the physical aspects. I am so so happy I am skinnier and healthier. But I still have trouble wrapping my mind around it sometimes. The other day was clothes shopping and found myself perusing the plus size section. I am buying new clothes every 2 weeks or so. It's hard. I see pics of myself at 300 lbs or a little less, and want to cry. I am sad for myself and think "what happened to you?" I am also having trouble with the hair loss. I've always had a ton of very thick hair. So this is also hard. I started crying because I was brushing i…

Hello! So for stats, I am currently 308, I need to lose 12 more pounds in three weeks before surgery on sept 1st 2015. I'm easing myself into the pre-op diet mode with a few shakes a day with small meals thrown in. I live in hull, uk but I'm having the gastric sleeve surgery at Nord Bariatric in Lithuania. Once I got over the fear of leaving the country for surgery, I was hit with the realization that my surgery is there weeks away. I am having mini panic attacks every so often when I think about going under and waking up in pain! Guys I'm a big old baby. I have never had any serious medical conditions, I barely get shots. I cringe when getting blood drawn. Post op …

Until recently, I had been in an 18 year relationship, married for 10 of them. Sadly, part of the reason the marriage ended was my huge weight gain. I've read a lot of posts about amazing and supportive partners/spouses and I wonder what it is like to go through this alone. I do have close friends but it's just not the same and most of them live other places. Where did you get your support? Does it feel lonely? I have to admit one of the big reasons I'm doing this surgery is so I can find a partner again. (Where I live in NYC no one would touch me with a 10 foot pole (or anyone for that matter, unless they are a size 6 (?) or below!)) Anyway just looking for inspirat…

Hi there. Well I have finally made the decision to have gastric bypass. Its 20 years in the making. I always felt like it was a last ditch effort and as my weight continued to creep up I FINALLY accepted that I need to do this. The final straw was at my stepsons graduation when I couldn't fit into the stadium seat. I had to sit sideways balancing on one cheek. Not my proudest moment. I am going thru the process and am looking at surgery in November. I have a very supportive hubby and am looking forward to my new journey. I just found this site and am excited to share my experiences and read about yours. I have all of my appts set and everything will go fast y…

Surgery date: April 22 - 412 lbs April 30th - 387lbs May 26 - 365.7lbs June 18 - 345.6lbs July 21 - 334lbs Next appointment is July 21 - by doctors estimates I should be 338lbs, but I'm actually at 330lbs now. The progression has been relatively smooth. I have followed the doctors recommendation 98%. Biggest issues/challenges and adjustments have been: 1. Chewing food up more and eating slower ... Previously i guess i was eating fast and virtually swallowing food whole, lol. 2. Recognizing when my new stomach is full and mentally accepting that it only takes 1/8th the amount of food that i previously ate to get me full. 3. Taking all …

After years and years of yo-yo dieting and a health scare that put life in perspective for me; I have decided to have the Gastric Sleeve Surgery. I have my first surgeon consult tomorrow at Brigham & Women's Hospital. I'm scared as hell but also excited about the prospect of changing my life for good. They said I should expect to have surgery within 6 weeks most likely. I'm ready. I have a 6 year old little boy who I want to watch grow up! My husband is also very overweight but I think he's going to do it too once I'm all healed up and recovered. I …
