Just had my initial group consultation. All paperwork has been turned in and waiting for first phone interview on March 18th.
I always said I would never have WLS-I could do it on my own! But...I obviously have not been very successful with that! I never really had any health problems so even through I was heavy I felt fairly well. Well-- now at 57 I'm not feeling quite as healthy. I realized if I don't conquer this that I might not be around for very long. If I am honest, I am a little scared about the surgery but reading everyone's posts has really helped. It will be a challenge but it will be worth it.
July 21, 2015 Hard to believe that 4-1/2 months have flown by! I also am shocked that it took me this long to come back and update my story. So here goes-
March 19th- Went to Amanda George my Doctor to have her send Mercy Weight Loss Clinic a referral. I am on my way!
Contacted Dr Wayne a pulmonologist about getting a sleep study. He sent me to Iowa Lutheran to have a chest x-ray, blood work, and breathing tests. Thank heavens that my lung capacity is 1.24 better than the average women my age and height. X-rays were good and blood work was good except for a slight elevation in blood sugar....urhhh.... glad I have made this decision.
Psych Evaluation- Made my appointment (first checked to see if he was "in network") Evaluation took about an hour and then I had to do a personality test of close to 400 questions. After about 3 weeks I got a letter saying that I had passed the evaluation and if I could not lose weight on my own that he would advise that I was a good candidate. Yippee!
Had 3rd NUT visit. Lost 10 pounds in a month and all was FAT!
June 11th- Had my first official surgeon's appt. My 2 sisters came with. I was not thrilled when the doctor told me that I was never going to enjoy food again--for the rest of my life. I hold him that I could enjoy food even if it was in small amounts. He told me with an attitude like that that I would not be successful. I was a little taken back- especially since I had already lost 30 pounds. Why can't I enjoy healthy food too?
June 16th- 4th NUT Visit. Lost another 6 pounds this month. 2 was lean muscle so the NUT told me I had to start some weight training.
July 6th- Had my Module 2 meeting which included a group of us and went over our pre-op diet and post op diet. Also went over strengthening bands to help build up muscle. This cost $150 which is not reimbursed by insurance.
July 15, 2015- Had 5th NUT Appointment. Lost another 8 pounds and this was all fat! So I have lost 40.5 pounds since I started. My "to do" this month is to start doing weight training. Started on Sunday and will do this on Wednesday too.
I only have one more NUT visit on August 19th and then I am done with my prerequisites! Then Mercy will submit for surgery approval.
