Hey, So I am 2 months out of surgery and my sleep pattern is still bad! I cannot sleep (literally) until midnight or 1am and wake up at 5 am and cannot fall back to sleep until midnight the next night. Is this happening to anyone else? I have tried everything from no TV or phone while in bed and nothing has worked.

I was sleeved on Wednesday. I'm still having horrible sharp pain in my left shoulder. They said it was from gas. It doesn't seem to be improving. I'm using a hearing pad but doesn't seem to help and I've been walking. I can't lay flat because it seems to feel worse afterward. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I was loosing weight just fine until January. I have been toggling between 184-179 for the last 4 months. I don't know what to do. I have lost about 70 lbs since surgery and I am still about 25 lbs from goal weight. I understand that the weight loss is slower than normal. It's been 4 months and nothing. What am I doing wrong?????? I admit I am not drinking a lot of water, and I am snacking a bit on things I shouldn't but i think I am very confused when it comes to eating protein and veggies. My doctor says I need to eat everything that has 4 legs, and my mind says I will have end up skinny but with high cholesterol. Not a good thing. HELP!!

So I purchased isopure unflavored to help with getting my protein in after surgery. I haven't had surgery yet, and I am hesitant on opening it till I hear what others think and maybe if there is something better out there that is unflavored. I wanted to mix it in jello and soup and whatever else I can come up with. If anyone has any feedback on the isopure or any suggestions that would be great. Thanks

For some reason I am unable to drink enough fluids. Water tastes terrible to me and all of the flavor enhancers are way too sweet. Any ideas? I am so surprised at how my taste seems to have changed.

Hi all. I had my RNY on 4/24/17. Started back to work this week (fortunate to have been able to take as much time as I needed). This morning I am shaking and feeling very different. I had some yogurt for breakfast, but now I feel worse. What is up with the shaking? Anyone else have this?

Every morning or whenever I get up from a nap I'm nauseous. I make sure to stop eating at about 6pm so I don't reflux so my stomach has to be empty by the time I wake up, but I still feel gross when I get up. Zofran doesn't seem to help either. Could it be because my stomach is empty?

Hi everyone. I get sleeved on the 13th of this month at beth Israel deaconess in Boston. I'm on day one of my pre op liquid diet. My pre op exam is this morning at the hospital. About a month ago I saw a recommendation for a popular post op low sugar shake that was still tasty and went down easy but since can't find that posting, even with the search function. I also saw on this forum someone mentioning protein water. May someone who has already succeeded with this and liked what they purchased let me know what they did? Just wanting to be proactive and get my Amazon order in. Thanks

My surgery is tomorrow and I just want to hear some success stories from your first month or 2 after surgery. I keep reading about people freaking out because the weight isn't falling off, so I want to hear stories from people who were content and happy with what and how they lost weight right after surgery. Thanks!

I'm 1 month post op. I was just wondering from other's experiences, at what point did you start being able to eat "normal" food without it hurting or being super uncomfortable. I've been trying some lunch meat, salmon, and even buffalo wings and it really hurts. I know I may be pushing it a little early and that you should add things to make it a little softer (like light mayo to tuna). But, I'm just curious when my diet will be "normal" again without pain...like how many months post-op out were you?

so i had my surgery on the 18th, everything went well, no complications, got discharged the next day. told me that if i dont go to the bathroom by sunday to take mirolax. so i did half dose last night& the rest this morning. i just wanna know if anyone has any suggestions that will make me go to the bathroom. sorry if its a bit tmi but its scaring me because i am in discomfort from being bloated and it makes me not want my protein shakes, and me not having protein shakes makes me incredibly dizzy and weak, which makes me unable to walk a lot which is what i should be doing to let the gas out. i just wanna know if anyone had this same problem and what would they recomm…

Hi, I am so curious to know why so many sleevers pre-op and post-op so different? There are times during pre-op when I wanted to ask questions and vent at how miserable I was during my 3-day clear liquid, all while a lot of you guys were suffering through it for 2 weeks, I just stood quiet. LOL! Now, tomorrow I make 7 days post-op and I can begin my puree stage, some people need to wait almost 3 weeks for this. Of course I start to overthink and worry myself like "Should I even try to eat eggs tomorrow?" "What if I'm not fully healed yet?" Honestly, I feel great. No pain whatsoever. Just sore at the incision sites. I am meeting my protein goals so far. Her…

I'm almost two months out from my surgery and doing well. I'm still working through the head games regarding my relationship to food. Overall, I'm doing ok in that realm. Lately, I've realized that I miss eating in volume, especially when what I'm eating is a favorite of mine or just simply tastes good. For example, I love Mexican food. My wife and I were having lunch at a local restaurant and what I was having tasted really good. I got about a third of the way through my food and so badly wanted to eat more but I could already feel that I'd had more than I should have. It was such a struggle to push the food away and out of my reach do that I wouldn't continue to ha…

Hello all! I'm a little concerned about my progress right now. It's not lack of progress that has me slightly worried, it's how quick the progress is. I want to make sure that something isn't actually wrong. I feel generally ok, a little woozy sometimes, but that's about it. I had my surgery May 26th. My preop was only one day, but i lost 4 lbs in that day. O_O. Ever since, I have been losing 2 to 3 lbs A DAY. I am down to 239.2 this morning. Losing 16 lbs in 5 days sounds a little crazy. I am getting in about 70-80g of protein a day with about 33 to 45 oz of liquid. I was honestly expecting to lose about 2-3 lbs a week with this surgery. Did this happe…

Ok I'm sure this is normal right but just wanted to ask... I am 11 days post operatively and I am still having trouble getting all my liquids in. I can drink thin liquids no problem but with my protein shakes I have a hard time. The first day I tried to have a protein shake - which was blended - I thought I was going to die! I figured out that the foam from the shake was a NO GO! It took me about 6 hours to drink that after the gas had died down from it. Two nights ago my husband made a red lentil soup for me which was pretty thin...I had about 3 spoonfuls and almost died (well not died, but felt pretty close). I thought I was going to throw up but nothing happened…

My first meal since the week before surgery!!! It is glorious. The roasted bell pepper and tomato soup tastes overly sweet and the cottage cheese overly salty, but when you eat them together, it's magic. Finally something that doesn't make me gag. I'm still on full liquids for 1 more day. Tomorrow I start mushy foods. I have to admit that I'm getting a little worried about restriction -- or lack of. I can easily eat 1/2 cup of creamy soup (I pre-measure and don't go back for more though). There is no full feeling. I'm hoping that it's because the food is liquid, but of course I'm worried that I'm not in tune with my sleeve and I'm missing my "full" feeling and that I'll be overeating when I get to solids. When did you first realize you had restriction?

Hi there - I am 3 weeks sleeve post-op and on the soft food stage. Per recommendation from my program, I'm also taking probiotics via yogurt / kiefer, BUT I have nearly constant diarrhea and almost no solid stool. I run to the bathroom a lot, especially after eating or drinking. I also use Lactaid instead of milk to avoid lactose. Is this normal / have others experienced this? I'm not eating sugar or anything (I don't think this is dumping syndrome).

Hey guys... I'm 9 days post op and just wondering at what point do I stop covering my incisions? There wasn't anything in my discharge papers about when to stop just post op care instructions and what signs of infection to look for. 3 of them have scabbed (the fourth is the drain incisions which I will be continuing to cover since it's still open) and though I'm getting some discharge from them it's not much and they no longer hurt and seem to be scabbing but I don't know at what point I should stop covering them or should I keep covering them until the scab has fallen off. My doctor is in Mexico but I can email if needed but thought I would check here first and see what …

Well, I finally can feel comfortable enough with my loopiness to post on here. I did want to share some things I was not expecting: It hurts worse than a c-section I only had 5 incisions - not 7 Water and ice taste sweet, like sugar is added SF popsicles and jello are so sweet it almost burns the back of my throat Broth tastes like overly salty MIso soup and I used my cup of warm water given for tea to water down the broth so it was somewhat enjoyable. Breathing hurts, but the more deep breathes you do, the less gas pain you feel in your shoulders. Mine went away a few hours after surgery. Walking does help relieve gas. For me it was burping. Haven't had it go out the o…

Sorry this is long.... The first thing I MUST address is the way in which some people talk to on another on WLS forums. Often, I will stumble upon a post because I Google a question looking for an answer in the moment rather than asking something that may have already been asked and waiting. I've noticed a lot of people being extremely critical of the questioner... Here is an example (in a weak moment -MOMENT being the keyword - I might add... I'm on the liquid diet), I found someone asking if in the pure liquid post-surgery diet stage if they could have sugar free soft-serve ice cream. The first response was from someone who decided that rather than answer the …

Hello folks! I just had my 2-week follow up with my surgeon today. I am excited to be moving onto stage 4 (out of 5, being solids food and forever based on my surgical center's directions)... I am able to take in soft foods and thicker purees. My surgeon told me that I can resume drinking alcohol again at the 2 month mark. I know this might be a contraversal topic and I know many have different opinions and experiences. But if all goes as well I plan to resume drinking and enjoy some alcholic beverages again. I have heard that others do drink beer (which is carbonated). I am willing to try it and see how my stomach tolerates it. But I am normally a liquor d…

I am 5 months post op, I have over 5 and 1/2 stone far, but at the weekend I went out and decided to have a few glasses of wine, not before surgery I was a cider/beer person but I know to stay away from carbonated drinks. Well the wine obviously went straight to my head and I lost all control, I landed up drinking almost 3 entire bottles of rose wine, even before surgery I could only ever have handled one bottle, this was on Saturday night and now it is Tuesday I am still be absolutely rubbish both physically and obviously mentally as well. Obviously it was a massive wake up call that I am not ready to drink again, but I am genuinely worried if I have damaged my liver or…

Hi, I have not lost weight since I started started stage 2. My weight keeps going back and forth between 3 lbs. up and down but remains the same. Today is day 18 post op and i finally start pureed foods last night. I get a feeling of fullness but i have not felt any restrictions. It takes me 15 minutes to finish a shake. I can eat a whole pudding cup or yogurt without difficulty. I have been keeping track of my intake and i am getting in my 60-70 gm of protein everyday. My calorie intake is between 600 to 800. I do my 30 minute walks weather permitting. I do increased housework on these last rainy days. The last 2 days i know i have not been taking in enough w…

I've been taking BariActiv chewables (iron, calcium, multivitamin, B12) through Nutrition Direct since my surgery June 2016. After about 6 months I could no longer tolerate the calcium and multivitamin. So, I switched over to PatchMD for calcium & multivitamin. For the last couple of months, I've not been taking iron, because it gives me indigestion or bad reflux. I know I need to take it. I've been feeling very tired lately. Wondering what others suggest for the iron. I appreciate your suggestions. They do have more chewables out there for the iron, but I don't know if they will cause issues with me or not. Thanks for your suggestions.

Over the last two or so days, I notice my throat gurgling when I consume full liquids. My guess it's gas, because I can hear my intestines firing off as well. There's no nausea, and only slight stomach pressure, nothing too bad. Is this something that's normal? I just want to make sure it's not a sign that I'm eating too fast/about to regurgitate.
