  3. I am 1 year out tomorrow and for the last few weeks I have had burning pain in my left ankle area and some numbness. The last week I have noticed that after I walk a while, my foot starts to slap the ground and I can't control it very well. It feels like the foot is very weak. I am a nurse so I know this is called "foot drop" and in doing research I have found that this can happen after weight loss surgery due to the rapid weight loss. I go to my surgeon next week and will find out more but I am curious to see if anyone else here has had this problem. According to my research it sounds like it is not exremely common but does happen and the search showed no topics on …

  4. I'm 9 weeks post op RNY today. Last week, as per my program, I stopped Nexium 40mg (Acid Reflux meds). First day off was fine, did feel some tightening when I eat, but other than that, okay. Second day off, I managed to get breakfast down, but 2 bites of lunch, and the tightening in my chest got so bad, that I just had to drink something to get it up. It came up with a lot of slime. I first thought I hadn't drunk enough before eating, so it eas an attack of the foamies. The following day I made sure i drank enough, breakfast was fine, but lunch again came back up. I called my surgeon. I have had no problems with food what so ever up until this point. I have been on s…

Belly stubble + binder = miserable fella in his first week post op. Thankfully, that's been my only complaint so far. I haven't had a lock of pain since coming home, and it's actually kinda bothersome. I keep wanting to test my limits, but have been good sticking to the plan so far. Well I'm three days out (does the day of surgery count as day zero or day one?) They put me in intensive care after surgery because they said this is normal for someeone who needs a CPAP. Even though the nurses kept asking me, why I was there? lol Lost eight pounds in three days since surgery? That's bananas... Biggest struggle is getting all the water in. I can take only the tiniest sip and even so I feel the "bump" going through in my still swollen stomach. They say that will go away. For some people I guess it can go away as soon as the second day, for others up to two weeks. (Do you all concur?) They say once it does pass it feels like the Red Sea parting. I…

  9. So my sx was May 31. I feel amazing. So far I am down from 270 to 250. However, the past week and a half my scale has not moved! I have been drinking water and following my diet very strict. I do see changes in my body atrophy but the scale still freaks me out. It makes me get that feeling when prior to sx, dieting and working out... stepped on the scale and I'd see no improvements. Has anyone else had this experience. It makes me feel like failure I know I sound ridiculous, but I walk 2 miles a day, I'm super active bf I drink about 80ml of water a day.

I'm 9 days post op and I am literally having to force down my protein shakes at this point. It's not that my stomach can't tolerate them, it's that between my pre-op diet and now having to drink them again just the thought of a protein shake is making me want to gag. I have never been a fan of sweet drinks and it seems like each one is sweeter than the last. Does anyone have any suggestions about how else to get my protein? Thanks!

Hi All, I was sleeved during December last year and it is going to be six months in 10 days from now. I've been experiencing sharp pain over my belly button (especially in and around the area where the incision was made during the surgery). At times I find it hard to inhale and exhale too. The pain comes and goes every time I sit down or get up or try to walk faster. I cannot bend to lift anything. I have been going through every little detail in my mind, but cannot remember lifting anything heavy. I do moderate exercises and use the elliptical for 10-15 mins everyday (which I haven't this whole week). The pain over the belly button started about 2 days ago and…

  19. Hi, all, My VSG was on 5/23. I'm finally feeling like I can make it (pain was intense the first 10 days or so). I'm doing well except I can't get all my vitamins in. I am supposed to take a sublingual B12 (which I am good with). Also 2 huge chewable multivitamins (doing better with these now that I crush them and put in applesauce) and 2 chewable calciums. The calcium makes me want to barf. I still am am not quite up to where I need to be on my protein, but getting better. I feel like I have a new full-time job of taking vitamins. LOL! I'm glad I've had the surgery though. I know my life& my health are going to be so much better.

Well this is my journey from Monday the 12th. Went in for hiatial hernia repair and RNY because my acid was totally out of contol. When the anesthesiologist inserted his tube, it was discovered that I had a very thin area of scar tissue that was completely iniulated from my severe acid. So my wonderful surgeon had to repair that first before he could do the bypass. Because of this it wasn't necessart for him to do the hiatial hernia repair. So the bypass part went as planned. Because of this repair, I could not start liquids on Tuesday. I had to have an upper gi xray to make sure there was no leak. There wasn't, but he still wanted to be extra cautious because of the deli…

My list of approved stuff includes cream soups, sf pudding, sf jello, and drinkable consistency yogurts. There are no restrictions listed as far as sugar content, carbs, sodium, fat, calories, etc. I guess in my mind I'm still thinking that way. My surgery was a week ago today. I'm down 23.1 pounds since that day. I see most people in the first couple months seem to loose between 20-40 pounds and that is what I expected. To be over half way there in a week has me a little excited but concerned at the same time. I've been meeting the diet requirements I was given which was basically 60 fluid ounces and 50 grams of protein a day. I'm feeling great and I'm having no problem getting my fluids down, I could do more if I needed to. I would love to hear opinions on this before I go back for my follow-up on Monday.

But lately I’ve been seeing myself being able to eat more that usual. I’ve went from 2-3 ounces to eat 4-5 ounces of food. Most of the time it consists of a good diet such as chicken salads or eggs, sausage , yogurt fruit and etc and I do keep up with my fluids. I just want to know if it’s normal to be eating this amount at 6 months post op? Also I don’t eat any carbs if it isn’t a pretzel here and there. 39. I'm just wondering how you all felt coming out of surgery. I know it varies person to person, but I'm curious to hear from many. How was the bloating and gas feeling (I don't handle gas pains well to begin with)? I've been seeing that many people have been vomiting directly after surgery. I'm also worried about the catheter. I've never had one put in and the thought makes me freak out a little. The next part of this is I live in Massachusetts and am flying to Florida to have my sleeve procedure. How did you feel flying back home if you did? My date is June 27th and I come home July 8th (getting into Florida on June 25th).

It always happens in the middle of the night when I'm sound asleep, I jolt out of bed with a sour burning taste in my throat and then I usually gag/spit up some yellow acid (like the xenomorph in Alien) and it just feels unbearable for about 15 minutes or so and then goes away.
