I need to get better at weight training and stamina. After about 10 minutes into the "inside out" strength training with Bob Harper ( a very intense routine that involves just personal weight and light barbells), my focus disappears and I give up and switch back to cardio like elliptical ( not running on this day because need to take a day rest in between runs). How can I get better at strength training? I am the prodigal newbie when it comes to strength training, but have lots of good books: new rules for lifting, men's fitness, etc. I have not read them all, but they look pretty impressive on my shelf. LOL! Do I need a personal trainer to improve my stamina and endu…

I am super-stoked to be participating in a 40 day Baptiste Yoga Immersion in Houston at Big Yoga! Wish me luck everyone! I had slacked off yoga as I got busy, so this is gonna kick my butt! If anyone else is interested, this is available elsewhere, and online too, I think.

It might be a little early to ask this question because I won't be having my surgery until May 2013 but I am 422 pounds and have been a little obsessed with researching everything I can about running. I've never done it but would really like to start when I have lost the weight. My question is......has anyone lost a lot of weight and been able to start running?

  5. Started by catblueluvsyou,

My surgery date is Jan 22nd and I've been wondering what will happen to my loose skin as I lose weight. My plan is to get a personal trainer to help me tone up. Will this really work or is it wishful thinking?

  8. I don't have the money to use a gym and it's too cold to take my toddler outside for a walk, even if I could handle the temperature myself. What are you guys doing for exercise? I don't have a wii and can't afford one. I am too heavy for the wii fit stuff anyway. I need something free that I can do in my house.

  9. Hi, I like running and swimming. I understand that you can't run for 4 weeks after surgery but how about swimming? Thanks

Hey guys I was banded on 06/052012 I've lost 148 pounds and have 55 more ponds to go, but I fell and broke my foot and I can't exercise for 12 weeks. I don't want to mess up.. Can anyone give me some ideals I can stay on track please.

  12. Your workout, that is! I tend to really peak in the early afternoon. I've never been that physically energized early in the AM. Races are rough for me for that reason, they all start so fanned early. On a day off, I usually get my run or workout in around 1-3pm. Work days leave me with little choice but to hit the gym around 5-7 pm ( I start teaching pretty early). I've even taken a 7 pm Zumba class. And I sleep like a baby after. Maybe it's more because it's what I'm used to? I dunno, but my body needs time to get going, then... I can go all night.(I love dancing all night!) So I know there are some avowed morning folks here ( looking at you B-52!) What about …

Lost 80 pounds first 7 months. Knee went out doctor says I need a partial knee replacement. I'm in pain with every step. I need to exercise, but not sure what I can do now. I feel great, motivated, just in pain. Hoping getting more weight off (still need to loose 100) will ease my knee pain. I'm not ready for a knee replacement. Arthritis picked a lovely time to show up. Just looking for suggestions.

It's 4:30am, having my morning coffee.....took 15gm pure liquid Protein, Vitamins and Omegas, then off to the gym when they open at 5am....then after my workout I will have a high protein recovery shake, another 30 gm protein, which will also be my Breakfast.... I will also drink my 32oz container of Water during and after my workout..... I've been doing this for over 2 years now, and every morning I still can't wait to get to the gym..... In the beginning, you start small....but even then you have small victories......which feel so good that it makes you want to come back to experience more little victories.....then more and more and before you know it you're hooked…

If you like to run, check out this link on good running form. This has really helped me run without any pain or injuries. I truly believe that us heavier runners really need all the help we can get to prevent running injuries. I've had enough knee injuries to last me a lifetime, I don't want anymore. http://www.goodformrunningaz.com/

I've really been slacking! I had fluid taken out because my band wasn't allowing me to get hardly anything down. That was early November. After that I stoped going to the gym for some unknown reason and I haven't been back since! I got a fill yesterday, half of what they took out. But I'm just lacking the motivation! I gained 3 pounds, which sucks but I know that's my own fault. Anyways, my PA wants me to lose 10 pounds by mid feb which if deff doable, if I can get off my lazy butt! Thanks for reading my rant, any advice is much appreciated!

  20. Started by SueSue,

I haven't exercised properly for at least 12 years so am in need of some advice please. I was sleeved 31 October so am about 10 weeks post op. This week I've started riding my bike (done about 15km in 3 days) and walk/jog using the C25K app. I know I need to incorporate weights into my exercise routine and I would really appreciate some advice on how to work on my "bat-wing" arms (the floppy bit that hangs down when I extend my arms out to the side...) :-)

  21. Before I had this surgery I was worried about loose skin and not having any muscle tone after the surgery. Well I am proud to say that I am a year out of surgery and I don’t have any loose skin. I have always lifted weights and wanted continue after I had my surgery. I am going to be honest when I got back in the gym after surgery I was extremely weak, in college I could bench about 475 lbs., when I got back in the gym I could barely bench 145 lbs. I stuck to it and now I am up to 375 lbs., I work out 4 days a week and I swim 3 say a week. I don’t run or walk because of the stress on my knees, I think once I get to my target weight I will start to run. Just recently I hav…

Okay so I'm so scared that I'm going to lose a lot of the muscle in my legs which I don't want to do. I played competitive volleyball for 7 years and have very muscular legs that I don't want to lose. I carry all my weight in my abdomen. I can't decide if it will be beneficial to me to do weight training before surgery to bulk up my muscle so hopefully I won't lose a lot of it. Just a thought, I didn't know if anyone else had these thoughts.

By accident, I found a good stretch for hamstring/buttuck muscles that is very easy to perform. Siting in a chair, put right leg over left leg, right above knee, bend forward and hold. Repeat for other leg. It really gives your hamstring a good stretch, one side at a time and feels oh-so-good when you are sore there (e.g. I have been running). This is easier then the traditional runner's stretch of laying flat on your back, lifting each leg to 90 degrees and holding. Do both of these stretches target the same group of muscles in the hamstring area? I do not know a lot about muscle groups and the interactions between them with regards to stretching so I am going to researc…

  35. Hey there! So last summer I trained for and ran/ walked a 1/2 marathon... so for me "long distance " is more than 6 miles... I run intervals 3min run at a ~13 min / mile pace, walk 1 at a 15 min/ mile pace. But still working hard, heart rate up, sweating... the whole deal. I'm still in the 190 lb range, so a bit more to go before I'm trim enough to run faster and longer intervals. So with that in mind, here's my question... do any of you who run long distances (for.me it's after about 90 min of running) have any trouble with abdominal pain? Like major, severe cramping - it usually hits me at the end and continues the rest of the day. I'm fine by the next day. There's…

I'm one month and two days band to sleeve revision and down 37 pounds. I feel great! Here is my dilemma...... I CANNOT get motivated to get my arse to the gym. I joined PF which is a real nice, clean facility but I can't seem to get there. I know exercising is critical and will enhance my weight loss as well as build muscle. I just can't get into it. Can someone share with me how I can get motivated. I have a bad back but that's not my excuse.. I'm just too damn lazy. Thanks for your input and appreciate the help! Eric

However, I cannot stand to be on it for more than 3 minutes before I get pain on my quads, calves and shins that will not allow me to go on! Anyone out there have tips for getting from couch to fit with an elliptical trainer or a schedule that could help? Thanks!

I had my Lap Band done in 2008. I lost about 100 punds and got pregnant in 2010. I am sad to say that I gained most of it back durning the pregancy. For me 2013, is the year to lose this weight once and for all. I am starting the Insanity workout program today. The program recomments 5 small meals and total calories of 1,500 for me. I am having trouble eating this many calories...I am just not that hungry. My question: how many calories do you eat on a exercise program? I want to "fuel my body" but am having a really hard time doing it. Thanks for your help.

I feel excited and proud. I am 37 years old and I ran on a treadmill for the first time in my life today. It wasn't for a long time nor was I a speed demon but I did it. I am super psyched! I feel like I am building a newer, healthier me in so many ways. I am so happy I got surgery nearly 4 weeks ago. I did get shin splints the last time I regularly walked on a treadmill. Any advice on how to avoid?

I made a jumping jacks challenge for January - I loved doing them last March (on Tumblr), but I had to start off at a much smaller number than it had wanted since I'm heavier than most people wanting to get "fit", (it started off at 50 and went to 200 jumping jacks by the 31st) I wanted to make one for people like me who may want to do it also. 46. Started by Al_Winter,

So I hope someone can help me! I was banded in August 2011 and I am down about 60lbs. However, I haven't been able to lose anymore weight and I don't know why. I've been going to the gym 3-4 days a week for the last 2 months and I haven't seen the scale drop?? I've been wearing my fat burning watch to monitor my heart rate to see if I am in my fat burning zone but sometimes I feel that when I'm in my "fat burning zone" I don't get that good of a workout?
