Before my surgery I was a distance runner and used Gels (GUs) and 5-hour energy for very long runs. Now, after surgery I have become a distance runner again, but am nervous to use these products because I am one of those that experiences dumping syndrome. The reason I ask is because I run half marathons and there is not really a way to get through that long distance w/ out adding a Gel for carbs/energy, but I am so scared to try for fear of major dumping. Has anyone tried these post surgery?

Looking for a new fun exercise, pole dancing class sounds fun but intimidating. Any one tried this want to share how it was, also the website for the class in my town says poles have a 200 lb limit. I was 189 at my last Monday weigh in which is under 200 but do not want to push the limits or my luck, anyone in my weight range or larger want to ease my worries that this will not end in me being YouTube famous ?

I walk to Redbox to drop off my movies at least once a week. Since McDonald's are everywhere you can usually find one or two that make a nice, long walk with a destination and purpose. I don't always pick my movies up that way, because different locations have different selections, but it's a good way to use McDonald's in a positive way.

I was told to stop jogging, that it was causing me to stop my weight loss. I was told they would tell me when I could jog, I could walk only and not too fast. I was o disheartened and do not want to go back to True Results office. I let her know that I felt great and saw a difference in my clothes and my muscle tone and was still told to stop. Their studies indicate this is a shock o my system and cursing my body to hold onto calories. I had stopped going for a year and went back and never heard this before. Is this true. Hi all, first post so apologies if its the wrong place! Basically, i'm down a load of weight and i've still got a huge ass and CHUNKY legs. I'm worried they'll remain that way when i reach my goal. Most of my weight goes on my bum and legs but i've noticed they've not changed much in the almost 5months post op :s Should i be doing certain exercises to shift the leg fat quicker? I walk ATLEAST 10,000 steps a day since im always busy with uni stuff. I was thinking maybe to do the stair exercises but not sure if it'll help! All advice appreciated! Xx

I don't have a NUT or anything like that so I'm on my own on this topic. If you start exercising more (burning between 500-700 calories at a time)....Do you need to consume more calories to prevent your body from going into starvation mode when you don't lose weight? I pretty much eat the same amount every day whether I work out or not....Just curious. Thanks

I had my surgery on the 8/28 and had lost about 70 pounds (including 32 preop) as of the first week of October. Then I thought I should start hitting the weights and cardio a bit more. I joined the YMCA 3 weeks ago and haven't lost a pound since. I go at least 4 or 5 days a week and usually do just weights 3 days a week. My question is this. Has anyone else started to stall as soon as they starting regularly working out? Is it just a normal stall or have I not lost anything because I'm putting muscle back on that I've lost along the way. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am 2 months post op and wondering what kind of exercise people at the same stage as me are doing? I started seeing a trainer and we do weight and strength, nothing too heavy. Curious to see what you all are doing for your exercise.

Hi Am 5 weeks post-op. I started working out at the gym about 2 weeks ago. I prefer early morning because am so busy during the day. My question is: is there a prime time for working out? I mean do we burn more if we work out at specific time of the day? Morning? Afternoon? Evening?

I have a crazy work schedule that calls for little sleep, when I have to work both jobs. This is one of the main reasons why I went with the sleeve. Having a gym membership does me no good if I'm too worn out to make it out there (20 minute drive from home), but I still want to do my hour of working out. I already own a ps3, so I recently purchased the move bundle, a few dance games, and a fitness game. I'm stupid excited to get all of this stuff because I love to dance. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

I purchased an elliptical today. I'm excited to set up a workout space in my home. I still can't really eat but I'm determined to fight the thigh droop. Went on a cruise to Mexico last week and worked out a lil everyday. Even played beach volleyball in my swimsuit!!!! Loving this new life.

I slacked off so much on exercising last week because of TOM, but my surgeon cleared me to do anything I want, so I have to hit the gym hard this week. I plan to do an hour of cardio 5x this week, and 3 days of resistance training. I hope I stick to my goal.

Hello to all, I'm new on here but not to weight loss and surgery as I had mine in 2005 and I have lost about 400lbs. I'm a Certified Personal Trainer and Wellness Coach as well as a Life Coach too. I see this site as a great connector to people and I have found that if you like to lose the excess skin without surgery under arms there's a few ways to do this. Also on the Belly and thighs there's some nice workouts that I do with people too. I'm on Facebook book if you like to friend me and also conect through here. Anthony Reed Cincinnati, Ohio

Hi all you runners out there. I want to start running again but in the past (a longggg time ago) when I ran it was always on the open road. I built up slowly till I was running long distances. Now I'm ready to start again but I'm not sure where/how to start. If it didn't get dark so early now I'd start running outside again, but by the time I can get out light becomes a factor. That leaves the gym, which I go to regularly. I'd like to try the couch to 5K program but can't figure out how easy it would be to always be changing my running speed on a treadmill. Has anyone done it that way? How did it work? Any tips or ideas? Thanks!

Found this out by accident this morning when cleaning my blender cup. Take your blender cup with the metal ball in it and fill it 1/2 way with Water. Turn it side ways and grab the ends with both hands. Stand up straight, hold your core tight and shake vigorously from side to side in a horizontal plane for 5 minutes. It gives your core and lower back an invigorating workout. You want to makes sure the ball hits the edges as you go from side to side in a fast and rhythmic fashion. Should I patent it as a made for tv gizmo All kidding aside, it makes for a brain dead simple exercise. You may be able to increase intensity by filling with more water, a more liquid with mor…

As of last Thursday, am 7 weeks out. I started working out at the gym 4 weeks ago. I follow all the numbers on the treadmill closely. When I started, my heart beat rate used to be 165 per minute and I was doing 1 mile in 20 mins, at 2.5 mph. Today my heart beat was 145 per minute, doing 2.6 miles per 40 mins at a 3.7 mph speed! Am hitting my 50 lbs down maybe tomorrow. Everything is getting better. Definitely the best decision ever. Wanted to share this with the wonderful people here. Sent from my Galaxy S III using RNYTalk

I joined a gym with my son a few weeks ago. I made an appointment with a trainer. The gym is a "judgement free zone". The trainer was going over our new workout plan and he added how people cheat and go the easy route by getting weight loss surgery. I sat and listen to him bash. My son was looking at me with a "here she comes" look. I politely ripped a new one on the instructor. I thought it was funny.

I finally weighed myself today and to my unpleasant surprise lost 2.8lbs. LOL I guess I have been focusing on the # on the scale for the past year that I was expecting a bigger number. I am on myfitnesspal and have been consuming under 1500 calories for the past couple of months so its not like I am over eating my workout (1hr cardio, 30-60 min weights). I have 2 personal trainers that are helping me and have told me that it's muscle gain and perfectly normal which is a relief but I wanted to know if anyone has gone thru this?

Just heard about it this morning on LBT and decided I'm doing it! I've always wanted to run, but was too big in the hip area. Doc actually told me I could dislocate or break something if I tried. Still not small but I can get my jog on! So I started tonight. Day 1 of Week 1. It felt pretty good. I couldn't figure out how to get the app working at first (my volume was off, duh) but now that the little voice will actually tell me when to walk and jog I can be more accurate. Tonight I walked at a brisk pace and jogged as long as I could, usually 4-5 houses worth, but I did it as often as I could stand and I liked it! I took my hubbies baby (Daxx the minpin) with me because …

My husband is a strength and conditioning coach who has a customized workout for me and I do it when he's here watching me- but on days like today.. I do one round of the circuit, do the abs and then just get on the spin bike. This girl is needing some motivation!

So I did my first race ever this weekend, and I chose a triathlon. (go big or go home, right?) I came in somewhere around the middle of my group and the whole race. I totally survived. I went from not being able to run pre surgery, to 7 months out doing a tri. It's amazing what a little work and a lot of determination can do. Next up is the Muddy Buddy then a half marathon and perhaps another tri. I am actually enjoying this! Who knew? Also I am dead convinced anyone can do this, anyone!

I'll be a month post-op on Tuesday, and I'm so tired of walking. I have to have variety to stay interested and I feel like I'm wasting prime "honeymoon" phase by only walking. I'm ready to get back to my pre-op routine, because I know I can get the weight off by burning 700+ calories per workout and eating so little. Having said that, my doctor said to continue walking until I'm 6 weeks post-op. It will suck so much to wait another 2 weeks. Anyone went back to heavier workouts at 1 month out? How did you feel? I'm sure there will be plenty replies to just follow my doctor's orders, and I'm a nurse, so I follow docter's orders on a daily basis. I'm just asking, lol.

I love love love to walk. I was walking 2-3 miles a day my goal was 4 miles aDay In an hour. I nan do 2 miles in 30 min. So doable. That is until an old hip injury resurfaced. I had surgery on my left hip in 04. And was part of the reason I gain the weight. Now I'm lucky to get a day where I can get my 2 miles in Then I'm laid up for a few days in pain from the hip injury. Winters coming to NNY. So I planning on getting a gym membership. Any suggestions. Anyone out there suffering from chronic pain in their joints too.

I did it. I ran the Plano Balloon Festival 5K this morning and accomplished both of my goals. I ran the whole thing without stopping to walk (goal number 1), and I finished it in under 35 minutes (goal number 2). My official time was 34:27:55 and I came in 299 out of 1000 runners. My average speed was 5.5 mph.
