This is my 1st post here. My boyfriend just got me an elliptical which I'm happy to say I started today.. 10mins and I was done.. I know I have to start slow but my question is,,,, what is a good time limit to be on it? How many days a week to start? I'm losing slow, which I'm ok with.. but would like to see faster results..

I have just signed up to play basketball starting in 1.5 weeks, by that time I will be 9 weeks post op. I thought it would be fine. My surgeon was encouraging me to start going to the gym and lifting weights at about 5 weeks out. I have started running and going for walks and will be going to the gym starting this week. However, a friend of mine that has had the surgery almost 1.5 years ago said there is no way I should be playing basketball until at least 6 months out to give it sometime for my internal stitches etc to heal properly and I shouldn't risk it incase I hurt myself or trip and fall. Same this with lifting weights, and that I should wait at least 6 months…

So I like running, not at the love stage. I really Like running on the treadmill, and less outside because it rains a lot here. The problem I have with the treadmill, with a weight of 311lbs is, when I am running the treadmill belt slips out from under me causing me to slip. I don't fall, but it causes a twist in my posture. This twist often causes me back pain later. Any suggestions? Has this happened to you? Is it just bad technique? I know I har not given much info, but I am thinking I run "heavy" and when I land, I land hard causing the belt to slip out. So I have not been running lately and avoid the treadmill. This is saddening because I like it.

Ok so I am 4 weeks postop and have been working out this last week and a half (got clearance from dr). I was on the elliptical the other night and I started feeling this weird uncomfortable feeling in my a diaphragm area with each breath. It's sticking around a little and can feel it when I take a deep breath, bend over, and right after eating. Any thoughts on what it could be or what I did. Not too worried, more curious than anything.

That is all. Seriously though, my wife and I have been using Wii Fit (and now Wii Fit Plus) for years, and it is a lot of fun. Living in Vermont, it really wasn't feasible for us to get outside and exercise most days...and to be honest, when I'm trying to lose weight I'm not over-eager to do it in public! Anyway, there are a lot of little activities that are a blast, but I found what worked for me best was doing more long-form workouts (running, cycling, boxing, or my yoga/strength training fitness routine/batch/playlist). I could just zone out, forget that I was working my butt off, and enjoy an audiobook, podcast, tv show, or movie to pass the time. Just wanted to…

Hello Fitness Gurus, I had my 6 month check-up with my Nutrionist and doctor on Tuesday. I am currently completing 30 mins on my elliptical, 4 days per week. Plus, I add some arm exercises with 5 pounds of weights for about 5 minutes. My nutrionist felt that was sufficient. However, my doctor thought that I should increase to 60 mins., 4 days per week. What has worked best for you? Am I doing enough, not enough? Frankly, I am confused. Your responses will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Everybody, I recently bought myself a fancy-schmancy pedometer. I'm having trouble finding the motivation to exercise. The more steps the better, I figure, and this might push me to park further from the store, take the long way, or just plain move. What is a good goal for steps? I'm trying to increase my number daily but sadly I only see about 4k for the day. (what a slug!) I'll worry about distance at a later date. thanks for your input, the Laughing Cat

Okay, I am down from a 26 or so to a 12-14 or so, and to be blunt I cannot run due to my lap...it claps, and while I am not experiencing any rashes it tears at the softer skin underneath...it is painful to run (and I can run now, dammit!). Any specific products anyone has used (I mean undergarment, duck tape, super glue, majic wishes from an evil djin) would be greatly appreciated. Thing is it just doesnt seem to be that big...I really want to run guys! I want to get out there and feel my legs burn and my lungs stretch...but I feel like someone is trying to aggressively peel my abdomen away...

Is anybody familiar with this bike? I'm wondering if it's worth it.... I've got an opportunity to get one for $675. But that's still about $500 more than I've ever spent on a bike before. I need something that is compact because I'm a truck driver and will be storing it in the passenger side floorboard.

I don't see my surgeon until next Thursday, but man am I wanting to do more intense work outs. I really want to start C25k, but that is pushing it. I want to do at least some of the work outs on Wii. Or even go to the pool and do water aerobics. So I guess what I am trying to get at, did anyone else start working out more before they got clearance from their docs?

Hey sleevers, The reason for this post is to get some ideas and advice on strength training. I have this wild notion to get into boxing/muay thai/kick boxing/MMA training. I am actually going to visit a gym tomorrow night that has all of those areas and offers classes 1 to 2 times a week. They suggested I come tour the gym and see what a class looks like. I'm excited about becoming as strong as I feel like I can be. Have any sleevers been doing any hardcore strength training like this? My body wants to be stronger, I can feel it! I feel like I need more attention that only cardio and free weights can give me. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Take care! …

So I had RnY on 7/30 and have gone from 326 down to 292.... I know that weighing myself everyday isn't a valid measurement however I've noticed that I'm no longer dropping the pounds. I've just recently as of yesterday started going back to the gym doing simple cardio, gentle yoga and light aqua aerobics. I'm hoping that this is only a temporary pause.... Right?... I've been doing so well don't want to get discouraged
