Ok, so most people on here know of me and know that I work 6-7 days a week in a fast pace restaurant. Most days I work 12 hour shifts and hardly get to sit down , especially in the weekends. I was sleeved July 7 and I've gone from 250 to 210 since my preop. I try to work out on my off days or the half days I get. Do you all think in doing ok? Thanks for the opinions .

Thanks to ButterTheBean, OTR and others, I am finally starting 2 new exercise plans today. 1 c25k 2. New rules to lifting Wish me luck! It is my first step into a structured program for reaching goal. I already eat clean and drink my fluids, so just need to add this to take one more step towards a healthy way of living. I can't wait until being able to run a 5 k and eventually, a marathon.

  3. I was banded on July 18 & although I've only lost 26 lbs....my clothes fit way looser. I'm noticing I'm shrinking in inches and not in pounds. Can anyone relate?

Hey all!! I started Zumba two weeks ago and today I did an hour with a trainer. Let me start off by "saying" that I thought I was going to pass out!!! I busted my bu** but I did an entire hour. Am doing 2 days Zumba with a 30 minute treadmill walk inclined to 5 and 2 days of circuit training (whatever that means). I've noticed a decrease in weight loss already. To date I've lost 33 pounds. I am hoping to be able to run for 3-4 minutes straight without stopping. I can 2 mins right now but my poor knees give out. Side note (not excercise related): today I carried (3) 10pound ice bags for 5mins and I realized how much harder my legs/body were working to move. I've pu…

I'm still waiting for my surgery date. Medicare has yet to pre-authorize my surgery. I'm in NY. Anyway I've slacked off and when I last visited my surgeon I had regained the few pounds I managed to lose. I want to start getting back on track. I want to start using Fitness Pal and Fitbit again. It cam take at least a couple of months more before I actually get a surgery date but I am wondering if you all think it would be a good idea to start my gym membership now so I can Start with cardio and hopefully toning. I have flab in my belly and I am afraid of the additional flab after surgery so I want to do something to it. I'm 38. I probably won't be able to afford excess ski…

I have read posts from a number of sleevers that run and would like to know: 1. At what bmi or weight ratio (current to start weight) is good to start running? 2. What progressive plan did you follow to basically go from no running to being able to compete in a 5k? I have run before, but is has been years since serious running. Also, I have a treadmill but do enjoy running outside also. The reasons for the questions is to prevent injury. I am currently 3 months out.

I have Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot and its painful all the time. I have custom orthotics in my shoes and wear orthotic sandals all the time, even around the house. I am a server/bartender so it flares up after/during each shift. I have night splints and arch support things that I've tried but they don't seem to help either. Plus my doctor says even walking will continue to irritate it so I guess they only exercise I can do is the elliptical. Anyone found anything that will help it go away?

Anyone have suggestions on a good quality scale? I have been reading product reviews and I can't seem to find one that has rave reviews. My biggest concern with my current scale, and many of those I have seen reviewed, is that I can get on and it tells me one weight. Then I get off and back on again and it's a different weight, by up to 4 lbs. For instance, this morning it said I was down 3lbs. Ten minutes later it said I was up 9lbs after eating or drinking nothing. I wanted to go lay back down for another ten minutes but I didn't want to gain another 9lbs. So, I welcome your suggestions. Ideally I would like something to keep track of my previous weight but…

Anyone out there from the NRH area? I'm looking for a place to workout but don't want one of the "Big Box" places like 24 Hour or Lifetime Fitness. I'm looking for a place with personal trainers since I really have no clue how to even begin with strength training.

Want to know a good, effective and free workout? Shovel manure compost for 1-2 hours. I did just that both yesterday and today. It turns out i won zoo-doo from the zoo in the weekly contest for Seattle. So I rented a trunk from u-haul and shoveled dung for an hour. Two tons worth! Note to self: get a f350 instead of a f150 for this type of load. Driving home was an experience hauling so much weight not to mention tires were wobbly and burning. Kind of reminded me of me running a mile at my heaviest. Shoveled it back out of the truck this morning. With that much work, it feels like I should be on a strongman show or something. Try it out sometime. I am sure it will break …

Good Morning From Texas!! I had been walking about 12 miles a week over the last several months and decided the start putting in short intervals of joggin in as well. On the forum I ran across Couch to 5k downloaded the app and began on Monday! WOW! It was much harder than I thought it would be however I completed W1D1. GO ME! W1D2 was yesterday and I find myself so completely exhausted today. Has anyone else experienced it? Ive never been a runner but I am going to give it my best shot to complete the entire program. Any other advice anyone can give me besides just to take things slow? Thanks!

I'm almost to my 1st goal of 50lbs lost (banded 8/1, weight before pre-op diet was 381, currently at 336). I started going to gym to tone things and lose more weight. I haven't seen a personal trainer so I'm kinda making this up as I go. I'm going 3-4 times a week. I start with 30 minutes on the treadmill at 3 mph with an incline of 7. That gets me 1.5 miles. Then I hit the weight machines (all upper body stuff). Arms, chest, back, etc. I do two sets of 10 on each machine. And that is it. Is this an ok routine? suggestions? Thanks.

Hey all! I have started on my elliptical trainer instead of walking. A treadmill or long walks really aggravate my back pain so I have found that elliptical works great for me. At least 20 to 30 minutes, not too fast. I figure as long as I'm moving it will help. I'm also using a shake weight every day. I am making my own home gym by finding things at yard sales and flea markets. So far I have a balance ball, shake weight, resistance bands. I debated on joining a gym and I may still do that but I wanted to get my kids interested in working out too. I've lost 25 lbs since September 12! Was sleeved on the 20th. I'm doing ok, but struggling some days cause I miss food! But I'…

I'm looking to revamp my work out routine to maximize results but I don't know how. I know it's best to switch up which muscles you're working out each day you're working out and stuff. I was wondering if anyone could give me like a weekly workout routine example? I think it'd be nice to see what other people do and what works for them. I understand what works for someone else may not work for me but it'd help to give me some ideas. I typically do 30 mins of the elliptical and then most of the weight machines. Thanks! -Erin

Hey guys at the gym now on my favorite machine the elliptical of course! ! I get on here at least 4x a week for 35 minutes. I am still pre op and just wondering if anyone experiences this. For the past 4mo the first 3 toes on my right foot have been numb. I asked my PCP about it and he says pinched nerve. The real reason I'm nervous is because after my c section with my daughter I had Bels palsy (temp paralysis to the left side of my face) it lasted for 2 months. At that point I lost all taste on the left side of my tongue and mouth. (I think getting the full taste of food back definitely contributed to my 60 pound g Weight gain. Anyways luckily things are back to norma…

I need some help. I went to the doctor yesterday thinking I'm having a heart attack and find out I probably strained and hurt my pec muscles. They weren't sure because it doesn't show up in an X-ray. I'm pretty sure I strained them. My question is can I still use the elliptical and how long will this pain last it's horrible.

It seems none of us have the same pre or post op food guidelines from our docs/nutritionists but what about exercise. What does your surgeon say you should be getting in per day and how many days per week? Mine says 1hr 7 days/week.....I do everything I can to get this in but some days I only get 30-45 mins in.

I picked up a groupon for 6 weeks of unlimited group exercise classes with a trainer for under $50 and was wondering how many of you are doing group exercise classes. I have been going 2-3 times a week for the past two weeks and am trying to get up to 4 times a week. It has been a great experience so far and I am already seeing results. My weight loss had started to slow down but with my first fill and exercise, I have started to loose weight again. I am also hoping that the exercise will help with toning of skin as well.

Many posts by individuals post-surgery about how they became active (in terms of exercise) after formerly living a sedentary life are inspiring. I have always been sedentary (and I'm pre-op). When I exercise, I enjoy it a lot. But I find that I have to truly push myself. It's always a struggle. I easily can find excuses not to go to the gym. So I'm curious about the following: for those of you who did become active, did surgery suddenly change you? Did losing weight itself actually change your motivation? Or, even after losing weight, is it still a struggle (for the formerly sedentary)? The reason that I ask is that I have read that the surgery can reduce/elimina…

A diet that has been floated about in the USA since February 2008, but has been available in Canada for 10 years and in Europe for 20 years is called the "Ideal Protein Diet." It was developed by a French doctor, Dr Tran Tien Chanh, initially intended for French Olympic athletes, allowing them to drop weight quickly. There are two phases to this diet. The first phase is an Induction phase, where carbohydrates are limited to a tiny amount a day. Three pre-packaged protein meals are used daily, as well as additional protein of your choice. It lasts until 90% of your weight loss is achieved. The second phase (a minimum of two weeks or until all weight loss goal is achiev…

I think I have a pretty good handle on food in general, I tend to keep to real food, no bars, very little protein powder also. But that might not be possible the day of and during. Any ideas? My tri is Oct 6/12, 1/2 marathon is 1/20/13 I feel like I am ready for my tri, and well on my way to the 1/2. (running is so much easier after losing this much weight, it's amazing!)
