Hi all, I had my sleeve done on 8/9/12 and have yet to start exercising. I was walking around as much as I could without being out of breath. On day 10 I developed a sinus infection which produced a lot of mucus causing quite a bit of nausea. I am still fighting the infection now.. Doc told me to rest as much as possible to try to kick the infection ASAP but I know I need to start exercising... Any suggestions on what I should start out with? And for how long? Docs advice before surgery was 30 min 3 times a week but I'm not sure if I have the strength for that yet. Thanks

I bought the insanity video months ago (before my sleeve) did it for 5 days but I couldn't keep up and I gave up, I was 250 then, now I'm 218 and keep pondering if I should start it up again or wait because it really is insane! I've been going to the gym, either doing the elliptical for an hour or the treadmill for an hour at a 7.5 incline (woohoo!) I just dont know if I should start insanity again, help! Lol

And I didn't entirely hate it! I was sleeved 8/14 and had been doing some exercise at home (swimming and walking) but finally got my nerve up to go. I used the treadmill and tried a few machines. I am excited to do this, however, I am not entirely convinced that it is a "judgement free zone" like they advertise... I felt a little judged.

Anybody using a heart rate monitor that they're really impressed with? I had a Polar 15 years ago (the last tine I seriously exercized) that was pretty good but I'm guessing things may have changed since then.

  6. Hi all Looking for advice on exercise. I see so many people saying they exercise 4, 5 or 6 days a week for 60 minutes. I find it hard to fathom that after being overweight and sitting on our asses for years or decades - boop!!,... you have sleeve surgery and now want to exercise like Jack Lalane.... well, it's hard to believe. Here is my reality. I smoked 2 to 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes for 42 years. I quit 14 weeks ago with the assistance of Chantix. I quit so I would be eligible for WLS. I have been obese for most of my adult life. I have never, let me repeat that, NEVER, been into exercising per say. I loved playing sports, softball, volleyball, basketbal…

May seem a silly questions...but still. How much should I be exercising now? I go in for my 6month the end of September now. I feel great and am currently doing 3 times a week in the gym, about an hour to an hour and a half per visit. Should I be doing 5 days a week in the gym? I'm stil losing weight, not at the rocket pace I started at, but I'm told thats normal. What are your thoughts or how you all do it? Right now I have it split up.....30min of cardio, walking, jogging, eliptical...I switch it up, the rest of the time is weights.

So, I think I change my routine as often as I change clothes, but I spent two hours tonight with a degreed personal trainer. First she did a fitness assessment and she was surprised at how fit and strong I am because I don't look nearly as healthy as I am. My new routine will be six days a week with alternating 30 and 60 minute cardio sessions. On the days I do 30 minutes of cardio, I'm going to work specific muscle groups daily, plus do abs 5 days a week. On the non-weight days, I'll be doing 60 minutes of cardio, probably 30 on the recumbent bike and 30 on the elliptical. I'm also teaching myself to swim, so I'll do that at least three days a week, working my way up …

I did it. I finally joined the gym at my job. Can't figure out why this make me giddy  , but it does. I am truly looking forward to starting a program and sticking with it. The center is staffed from 6:30a - 7:30p but members access it 24/7. I'm ready now, it's on!!! I see ONE(derland) coming soon. Ok, why am I THIS EXCITED!! Is it the sleeve? Alright, I'll take that. Now, can I get some advice on what I should be doing before / after workouts? What to wear...yes this is a serious question on my part because I don't know if I should wear something special because of being Sleeved. Thank you my fellow Sleevers.

So I live near a mountain that people often walk it has some flat trails, steep trails, and some up and down ones too. Saturday I walked up an up/down and thought I was going to die. At one point tears were rolling I was going to give up but my car was too far to just stop... I had to keep going to get back to my car. Took a day off and went back today and did the steep side... I thought I was going to die! But i took my mom and lil sis for support... I had to stop several times I said I can't over a hundred times, cursed, and keep going. I DID IT AGAIN! It's hard trucking this body up, and I wanted to stop but I did it. I can't believe it. Just had to shout from the …

On the days that I do C25K I can not get afterwards. Not sure if its because joggin moves my insides around so much or what the heck is going on. Anyone else experience this?

Hello... I'm going to be very honest. I'm not a fan of exercise & never thought I would be in a million years. Years ago when I went on my many yoyo diets I bought this exercise DVD that I put in my DVD player once, and I was in my 20's I thought it was boring, and away to collect dust it went. A few days ago I decided to actually put it in my DVD player, and exercise. The work out is so super easy & you can go at your own ability with out speeding up or going to fast. It's excellent & now I recommend it to everyone. It's called Walk away the pounds with Leslie Sansone it's a 3 mile walk & it last 49 minutes. When you are finish at the very end you feel …

A good exercise plan is necessary for the weight loss and fitness improvement. Nobody can get fitness or lose extra body weight without regular exercises. Cardio exercises such as running, jogging, swimming, and cycling etc. are more important to lose the extra body weight. These exercises burn the fat more effectively as compare to any other exercise.

In a weight conscious culture, a body fat percentage calculator is of utmost importance as both men and women alike want to look their best and be at their optimal weight. However although many traditional weight loss programs are excellent at assisting with losing weight and tracking body weight with a standard scale, they are not able to give as accurate a number as can be gotten from a body fat percentage calculator. Body conscious and health aware consumers now want more from their scale than a simple weight number. In order to track weight loss, health, and the efficiency of a workout regimen, it is also important to have a body fat percentage calculator. These tools…

People on the boards are telling people that muscle weighs more than fat. That is the most wrong statement there is. a pound of muscle weighs the same a a pound of fat. Muscle is more dense and takes up less space, but weight is weight.

  26. Started by Rootman,

I splurged and bought a new bike on Saturday, got a lighter weight 21 speed aluminum frame bike that is a LOT easier to peddle than my old steel frame 6 speed Schwinn. 2 years ago I used to bust out in a sweat in making the effort of getting up and going to the bathroom, now I'm peddling a bike for 10 - 30+ miles down our city trails with not much more effort. I'd do more in the evenings but the durn sun sets too fast for me! I leave work and hit the city pool, swim for an hour (120 25 yd laps) and then head home, grab a bite and hit the trails on the bike. If anyone asks 'Was weight loss surgery worth it?" Hi everyone, I am a newbie here and I am beginning my sleeve process (process for insurance approval anyway). Although I dont LOVE to work out, I understand how great it is for your body. As all newbies I continue to go back and fourth with my decision. I am afraid that losing drastic amounts of weight so quickly isn't going to be very flattering. I have two close family member who have had gastric bypass and have fabulous results weight wise, but they have the drawn out, saggy, quick weight loss look. granted neither one ever work out. I know the main objective for this surgery is better health and that in its self has me leaning more and more towards the sleeve, b…

A month later, I managed to run a mile, but it took me 17 minutes! Fast forward a few months and I am running a 5K three times a week at the gym in under 40 minutes and still have the energy to do a bit of weight training afterwards. WHO KNEW A 5K COULD BE EASY! Hiya! I was afflicted with front-fat before sleeving, and let's just say I am going to be a great candidate for reconstruction when the time comes. I live for the Spanx high waisted panty for everyday life to hold me all together, but I play rugby and am a weight lifter. I've got a few 5ks coming up, and my trainer sessions have gotten uncomfortable with all that in the way. Does anyone know of a similar product, like a girdle, band, etc for exercise?

First I have to admit I am not the exercise guru and there are times I do need to push myself to exercise. However, yesterday and today I walked a mile (1/2 mile ea day...its a start). I'm kinda proud of myself for that. I stopped to breath about 2 times ea day during the walk. Found myself getting winded. So here's my question. When doing any type of exercising what is the proper technique in breathing? It seems when I tell people I get winded the first question asked is 'are you breathing properly? Well, obviously not. When to inhale. When to exhale. I live in Washington, DC so I walk around the Monument grounds, White House, basically the tourist areas. I …

Any runners have experience with.them? I've been having knee pain and thought I might try them out. I met a girl at a 5K a few months back that swore they stopped all her knee pain. I have an appointment with an orthopedist next week but I really really really really don't want to stop running. As is I have been walking fast and doing a little slow jogging to avoid aggravating it further.

My friend was telling me about this app called tribe sports (www.tribesports.com) they also have phone apps. I work out nearly every day and do yoga classes twice a week. So this was a nice little add on they have thousands of challenges and you choose the ones you want to try and you have friends encouraging you on your challenge. Like the first one I did was 10 push ups a day for 7 days. They have all kinds and it's free hope you guys enjoy!

So Im 3 days post op, but ready to get to losing! I've got plantar facitis (spelling?) in my right foot and have problems with my hips and knees too...My heaviest was 512 and day of surgery I was 467. So 45 down, but surgeon and nutritionist still suggest low impact exercises until I drop a bit more. I love the idea of water exercises, but wonder how effective they are? I thought about joining the YMCA here, but don't know what kinds of classes they offer. Would swimming laps to begin be enough? Anyone do water exercises or know of a place I can find good resources to refer to? Thanks everyone!!

  48. So a lot of us have bad knees due to the damage we have done because of our weight. A friend of mine had knee surgery and asked him what his PT gave him as exercises. One of them was to stand on one leg for 30 seconds at a time. So I started doing that.....in my elevator where I live! Going up (my right leg goes up-I remember it because I think of an upright piano!). Going down, my left leg goes up. When I first started a month or so ago, it was hard. Now it's easy and I can feel my knees getting better! I live on the 9th floor but as of next week we go to Honolulu and we're on the 20th floor there.....but I'm ready. Anyway, give it try; it's simple but it's helped me. …
