Is there anyone who does the p90x DVDs? My hubby bought me the P90X DVD's for before and after gastric bypass surgery ..so I can exercise at home. But I still find myself using the gym membership for yoga and spin. After surgery I know I can't lift anything over 5 lbs for the first 6-8 weeks, so is walking my only option to exercise? I after months of hemming and hawing I finally joined a gym. The problem is, I'm terrified to go in that place! The last time I was in a health club everyone wore leotards and legwarmers! (think Flashdance)!!!! I actually drove out there yesterday and got as far as the parking lot and drive home. I totally chickened out! I wish I had someone to go with me! If any one lives in the SoCal area and goes to 24 Hour Fitness and you wouldn't mind going with a middle aged out of shape woman, let me know! I was thinking. Since its open 24 hours I could go kind of late and just walk on the treadmill or elliptical or something and check the place out. Any advice would be r…

I am planning to buy a resistance band for exercise. I am trying new things and with back problems it seems better for me to use the band instead of weights. You can use it so many ways to exercise. Do y'all think that's a good idea. I need something other than walking.

Has anybody heard of Raspberry Ketones? I have a friend in my workout group that is taking it and is losing weight like crazy. It's all natural. I was wondering can we take anything like that with the band...I'm 3 months banded and have only lost 10 lbs. work out no less than 4 times a week and walks everyday. I've lost inches but just wondering if I could take something to jump start.

I know most ppl do some sort of cardio but I was wondering how many started weight lifting as soon as they were cleared to? I plan on hitting the weights and increasing the intensity of my workouts over time in order to decrease any stalls in my weight loss (I know I may see stalls anyway - but it's just a strategy I'm going to try). I also know from past experience that weight training is the only way to really change the shape of your body and you look slimmer with muscles - plus - muscle burns 2x the energy that fat does so your body will burn more calories. I am starting my exercise regimen tonight - so I can get into as good a shape as possible before my surgery …

Does anyone use the fitbit? I wish I understood more about allowing more calorie intake with exercise. If I am exercising and not increasing my calories, (not hungry) will my body store and lose slower then if I increase the calories?? And should they be protien calories out can it be veggies and fruit?? Thanks for any insight.

I an trying to manipulate my food intake to get the most out of it. After reading, I guess protien is better after working out, to burn the most? But, what do you eat before then? I am drinking a couple of huge waters first thing in the morning. Heading to the gym, then protien shake after. Do I go on an empty stomach or eat something?

I wish I could watch the Olympics while I'm at the gym all year!! When the swimming is on, I start cranking on that elliptical, I dunno, to help them swim faster or something?? Either way, it gets me going! Then watching the beach volleyball, I think "MAN, I want a stomach like that! Think I'll go over here and do some more ab work..." Cycling- same thing. I start running on that elliptical to help 'em out. Love it. GO USA!!!

ok, i'm scared to exercise before i loose weight. several years ago i hired a personal trainer who came to my house a couple of days a week. i kept telling him my feet were hurting and he kept pushing me. long story....i aggrivated my plantar fasciatis so bad i ended up having surgery on both feet after over a year of severe pain in the mornings or after resting and being the dead weight on family outings (I use to be the one who was walking way ahead of everybody and them complaining they couldn't keep up). that was 30+ lbs ago and now my feet are acting up and my knees bother me. I am scared to start any exercise program/walking, etc. until i loose 20-30 lbs and t…

I was wondering what types of exercise everyone likes to do. I am going to compile a "to do" list for myself for when I can really start working out. I was a competitive swimmer when I was in school and I love weight lifting so those will be on the list for sure.

Hey all- Put your orthopedic thinking caps on- I've had a problem with my knee since January. I can't bend it past 45 degrees without great pain. I started exercising seriously in December, and in January I got sick and spent a week sleeping in a recliner because of coughing. That jacked up my knee pretty good for some reason. Here's the problem: I can't have steroids because of leaky retinas, and no ibuprofen because my stomach is too sensitive. It feels like i'm trying to eat batteries when I take it. Is there ANY way to get the inflammation down without those two normally useful items?? I use the elliptical almost exclusively because of the non-impact. It would be…

I have the original Fitbit but haven't really used it much. However, I am really going to start concentrating on my cardio and my question surrounds that. I get that the Fitbit can track distance based on the number of steps taken over the course of a day. Is there a way to set it just to track distance for a specific workout during that day?

Tried Yoga today for the second time. And while I liked this instructor better... I still was not really feeling it. Does Yoga have to grow on you? Or do you love it from day one? Honestly I would rather be doing Zumba!! Lol. It was a great stretch after my 1.5 miles of intervals... which was the main reason for trying it. Just not sure if it is worth it? Thought?

Hello Fitness Gurus, I need your help! I have not been on my ellipitical in 1.5 weeks and I am lacking motivation. In addition to that, I have had a 2 week stall. For the last 3 weeks, I did some aggressive weight training and then had the stall. I feel like I went all crazy with the weight training and then I got burned out. In the back of my head, I am thinking that if I don't work out, I will gain the weight back. I am terrified. Help!!

Hi everyone I'm starting my liquids this Monday the 23rd & surgery date is August 6th. I'm so excited & scared out of my mind at the same time. Is this normal? Also, I have been having doubts thinking of canceling. I don't know if it's just my nerves or what. I keep saying to myself what if I don't wake up. What if i can't handle the pain (going thru the recovery process & everything)? But i do want to be healthy. My husband says either way he will still love me, no matter if i decide to go through with it or not. What's going on with me? I was so really for this in April....

I was curious as to what kind of workouts/DVDs/activities people enjoy doing to stay active and burn off all those pounds we’re trying to shed. I’ve been doing a lot of different DVDs because I don't enjoy going to a gym. I recently moved to a new area and would love to do Zumba again, BUT in the mean time I've been doing DVDs. Here’s the list of the ones I’ve been using: Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone (This is a really good DVD to get back into the swing of things. I own the 1, 2 and 3 mile DVDs. It’s not overly difficult and I think that just about anyone could do this work out. There’s no getting on the floor to do anything and there is a “low impact”…

I had the band placed over 4 years ago now. I initially lost about 55-60lbs, then put on 15 or so then dropped it again, yada yada yada....it's a lifetime battle no matter how tight or loose the band is. I know this. Well anyways....in March of this year I was down to about 175 which was only 20lbs away from my goal weight, and i was working out and eating what i wanted, just in moderation of course....which was great!..... but then life threw me a curve ball..... I broke my ankle when I was out looking all kinds of cute with my spring outfit including high wedges....I ended up requiring surgery on the ankle and had to have a plate and 5 screws put in initially and then…

I know this will sound silly considering I'm a year+ out of surgery, but does anyone have any suggestions about workout routines? I cannot afford a gym membership which is what I would ultimately like to get at one point. For now however I have to kind of come up with my own routine. What I would like is something to slowly build up my stamina so I could eventually run or when I can afford a membership be able to use the treadmill, elliptical, whatever have you for longer than I could now. We have a pretty decent sized pool, nice yard and nice neighborhood, so walking, jogging, swimming, etc. are all options. I've seen people on-line do routines of like 10 leg-lifts, 50 c…
