Does anyone else think the weight machines in a gym look like torture devices?? I'm so thankful I have a PT to tell me what to do on these things. Its so confusing! So proud of myself today for getting in almost 90 mins of cardio in and then worked with my PT on all the weight machines. Feeling tired and sore though so tomorrow will have to be a short day I think.

I am in week 6 of my journey and I am starting to add exercise to my routine. I work full time as a nurse and I have a family, so spending an hour or more At the gym exercising isn't really feasible for me 3-5 times a week. What is more important at this stage? Weights or cardio? Right now I'm doing 30 mins on the treadmill, and I expect to get cleared Friday at my 6 wk checkup to start weights, but I don't think I can do both in one day, time wise. should I focus on cardio at this point and do weights when I can or the opposite? I am definately physical-fitness-challenged lol Thank you

I just found this networking thing on bodybuilding.com called "bodyspace". It's free and all that. A less intense version of myspace, perhaps? haha. Anyway, I signed up and started a group called "weight loss surgery" for those of us who have lap-bands and such. There weren't any ones like that on there that I could find, so I figured I'd start one. Banders unite!! I'm not trying to make this one of those "if U want 2 become da ripped-est person eva, come here!" types of things, by the way. haha. This is for all of us, not just those that want to try to get lean. I just discovered bodybuilding.com about a week-ish ago while I was trying to get some Protein and Mu…

Yes, I'm chanting it this morning! I haven't been sleeved yet so I haven't gotten many victories yet but this morning I did 5 minutes on my elliptical without stopping! I did it at a pace of about a 15-min mile and I DIDN'T DIE! YAY!!! I haven't been on my elliptical in months but I'm trying to prepare for my surgery in a little less that 2 months and I want to do all that I can to give myself the best odds at getting to my goal. I'm going to do another 5 min this evening and then I'm going to start adding time (okay, maybe only 30 seconds at a time) to my time on the elliptical. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about losing weight. My arms are sore …

To those of you who say you don't have time for exercise or you don't like to...I'm sorry but to me all I hear is excuses excuses. Yeah you may have a busy lifestyle but after getting the lapband put into your body to make a "lifestyle change" how can you do that without getting some exercise in? What is an hour out of your entire day? You have 23 hours to do everything else you need to do..and if you know you will tone your body and loose even more weight from it why wouldn't you take advantage of that? I think you guys need to step it up and quit making so many excuses...I have a life too...a job, family, boyfriend, pets, house to take care of, appts to go to in bet…

I am currently trying Curves Complete, through Curves. The plan calls for me to eat 1500 calories a day, three meals and 2 small snacks which seems reasonable, except sometimes the food is quite literally "too much" for me to eat, and I get stuck quite easily. Not sure if it is the food combinations, or if I am finally starting to feel the restriction I should be. I know to stop once I feel the restriction, but does that mean I should put the food away to eat later, or be done with it altogether until my next meal?

So, I did 35 minutes on the elliptical this morning!! A month ago I couldn't do 3 minutes without feeling like I was going to die! Go Me!!! I've been working my way up to this, 5 minutes to start, then adding 30 seconds a day. Today I decided to push it and I was amazed by the results!!

I have just started working out at the gym...I do strength training on the machines and started out at 10 minutes on the treadmill and have worked up to 30 minutes this morning. My pace isn't fast...but it is more steady at 2.5 speed (if that means anything to anyone)...anyhow no matter how long or little I am on the treadmill...when I get off...and start walking to the locker room I get light headed and dizzy...should I be concerned or is this normal? Never really felt this before....I have average blood pressure when I get checked. It runs about 90 over something...can't remember the second number.

One of my coworkers is an amateur body builder. He's one of 2 people at work who know that I will be taking the surgical route. He and I got into an interesting discussion on how body builders bulk and cut before a competition. He mentioned that since I would be getting surgery, it would be interesting to see if getting some muscle before surgery would counter the muscle loss usually sustained after surgery. I'm doing this for my own health, but I had to.admit, this was a pretty interesting concept. Work out as hard as my body will allow and then the surgery do the cutting? It would help fill out a lot of loose skin, that's for sure. Thoughts?

Hi all! I have a date set for my sleeve (June 19th) and one of the things I want to do afterwards, when I am fully healed, is to start triathlon training. I am wanting to do a sprint, then work my way up from there, but I am concerned with training after a sleeve. How difficult is it to train for an athletic event after healing from sleeve surgery? What is the best course for diet and hydration? I am looking to wrap my head around what I will be needing to do before I get to that point so I am prepared. Thanks!

OK, before surgery I really didn't do much walking, not that I do a lot now, but it is considerably more. I am in so much pain when I try to get up and walk the last couple days it's unbelievable, I completely understand "no pain no gain" but DAYUM. It doesn't feel like there's any damage, they're just really sore. Anybody got any ideas on how to reduce some of this pain?

FYI on a company called Cyberswim - I do not have any stake in this you can google or yahoo or bing, whatever. I had a conversation with a friend and thought it might be good to pass on the info. Cyberswim is a company that sells slimming bathing suits. Its what they do. Good selection and higher prices, but the suits do what they say..Just remember there is no magic trick to a slimming bathign suit - you feel like you are in a spanky! lol Since beach weather is fully upon us, I thought it might be good to mention.

I have joined a gym and am now wondering if it will be a long time after my surgery before I can start exercising again. Thanks!

So I have been at a plateau for about 3 mths or more. About a mth and half ago I started working out, ( 4-5 days/ wk) cardio 50 min on the days i dont meet with trainer or do the workouts he wrote for and 20 min cardio on the days I do train. I know all about the inches coming off before the lbs but i think i should be loosing more than just 3 lbs. Now i will admit that i have been snacking, which is a no-no but I get hungry between meals and starving after the workouts! I really think I need a solid calorie goal to stick with during the day to insure I'm not eating too much or too little. I have tried different websites (webmd, my fitness pal etc) for the amt of cal i n…

Every joint in my body is achy, especially my knees and shoulders. I've been working out pretty hard, so I know what's causing it. How do I treat it without totally stopping my workouts? Typical day for exercise: 7 am - hit the gym for cardio/weights. 4 days I do cardio, 3 days I do weights 7pm - hit the gym for more cardio. I do half an hour on the recumbent bike and I'm working on adding in the helliptical, between 5 and 12 minutes, depending on how well I do on it. The last three days, my knees have been aching. Aspercreme has been helping with the ache, but I pressure washed my house yesterday and I assume that the unaccustomed activity left me hurting in plac…

o.k. So I am barely 2 weeks post-op and all last week I have been walking 1.5-2.0 speed walking. Yesterday, after 2.0 miles I felt faint. I try not to gulp my water, but I drink about half a bottle in 2.0. Is anyone else having this problem? I am enjoying not having sciactica prohibit me from walking a mile, but am I over doing it?

Good Morning Everyone! If anyone is using MapMyFitness.com to keep track of exercise, please feel free to add me. I am ericdickey on that site. I am using this app on my iPhone instead of tracking my exercise on MyFitnessPal simply due to the ability to use GPS to map my routes and I feel it gives me a better, more accurate use of calories burned. Have a great day! DadTo2

This might be a dumb question, but if I eat 800 calories a day and burn an additional 500 through exercise (not including my resting calorie burn), then aren't I considered to be in starvation mode? I do not understand the calories in vs. the calories out. Can someone help me understand this? I have yet to start working out and want to be sure that I am not sabotaging my weight loss by adding in exercise. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I have had some pretty big stalls due to low calorie intake (when I previously ate lower than 800 calories), but I really am aching to get back to spin class. Any guidance is appreciated.

I have been practicing yoga on and off for over 10 years. Just before my surgery I was taking 4 classes a week. Yoga has always been a great stress reliever for me. I also find I can build the best strength through yoga practice. I am 3 months out of surgery and feeling pretty good. I did two restorative yoga classes this weekend and my stomach is on fire! I am worried about my abdominal wall muscles. Am I damaging them? Does anyone have experience with starting yoga again after surgery? Thanks!

As a former ZUMBA addict (i'm done due to a back injury and increased problems with Rheumatoid arthritis) I am looking for a fun (key word) energetic/fulfilling work out that gives me as much satisfaction as Zumba.. I have been reccomended Pilates by my doctor as a way to strengthen my core, limber up and also tone- NEVER done this before and it is a bit more intimidating to me than Zumba was/is.. Weird I know- Any feed back would be GREATLy appreciated...

Men might not know what a pooch is or assume I'm referring to the 4 legged kind, but for women, many of you not only know but have also hated your lower abs as much as I hate mine! Now that the weight is starting to come off, I need to make sure that this is one area that goes bye bye ASAP! Between the pooch, arm flab and multiple chins, I've got a lot of work to do! Any exercise suggestions that target the pooch? All ideas are welcomed and appreciated =)

Hello All, I am pre opt and my medical team has been encouraging me to workout/walk at least 4 hours per week. For some reason I just can't seem to get the drive/energy or desire to do anything. I read everywhere about how important it is to start a workout plan before surgery but my mind just won't do it. I have a treadmill and a stationary bike at home but rarely use them. Any suggestions or advice on what I can do to get going? Did anyone not workout before surgery and start after surgery? I think part of the problem is my lack of time I work 5 days a week 12 hours a day and I am a single mom with a 3 year old

So I am a member of a local gym, have been for a while, but never done anything with the membership! Now I am sleeved, I have hope I will actually use the gym! So when can I start working out & what should I do? Thinking just starting out with the treadmill walking, or slowly on the elliptical? But didn't know when I can do all that? I am 5 days post op now & feeling fantastic if that helps. Went walking 4 days post op, by the beach in Mexico. Had to walk down a bunch of steps, then up a bunch of steps & was no problem either!

I am 3 weeks post op and now walking 2 miles per day. I was 319 pre op now today I am 295, I am 5'4 and I have fat ankles I haven't wore shorts in 15 years just because I have always been insecure about my ankles. I have seen large women who have small legs but no such luck here, what's going to happen 100pounds down from now. Its hard to find someone with my body structure to get an idea if my ankles will get smaller and look normal. Help

My excercise buddy said it would be the toughest three weeks ever. I'm referring to core training, cardio, and major sweat. Well, I made it and never thought I could...Golds Gym and not at happy hour!!! I went at night 8:30-9:30 and 10 pm. No social hour worked bum off. So tonite I conquered the continuous staircase for 20 minutes without stopping. It's been hard but I think in getting in track. This should help me in my journey with lap band.

Hi guys, I want to get an opinion from your personal experience regarding what I discussed with one of the doctors from the VSG team in my local hospital. Basically, I'm 2 months out from vertical sleeve now, and I talked to my doctor about my concern of building muscle during weight loss. So far I have lost 50 LBS and I want to prevent saggy skin as much as possible since I'm starting to notice that my arms are getting a bit "soft". So besides eating right, drinking plenty of liquids, drinking Protein beverages, I was advised to weight train in order to gain muscle and that way, skin can have a bit more time to adapt to this drastic change. To me, this always made sen…

Omg. Went to the gym today for the first time in over a month. My husband and I used to work out 3-4x/wk but have slacked for months now, hardly going. Today, I worked myself hard. Nothing crazy, but not the namby-pamby "workouts" I've done on the rare trips to the gym. I'm dying! Lol Definitely need to get back in the swing of things. I'm feeling motivated for the first time in ages, plus we're starting a walking challenge at work this week - GCC. Anyone heard of it or possibly doing it? Going to let my body rest tomorrow and then start again on Tues!
