So I am signed up to do my first 5k race this weekend. To be clear, I am not at the point where I can run the full 5k yet. I have done the C25k program but only have gotten to week 4 and am pretty much stuck there for now. I am looking for advice on how to handle the week to be in the best shape I can for the race on Saturday. My plan is: Monday - 5k walk/run (either on treadmill or outside, dependant on weather) + weights Tuesday - 5k walk/run (either on treadmill or outside, dependant on weather) Wednesday - 9-10 mile bike ride (either on treadmill or outside, dependant on weather) + weights Thursday - 5k walk/run (either on treadmill or outside, dependant on …

Hey guys..Just wanted to share with you guys I bought Jackie Warner's Workout DVD from Amazon. What a great workout!! It has 3 20-minute segments that focus on Upper Body, Core and Lower Body with a combination of cardio. The segments go by pretty fast and you really feel the burn. Great timesaving workout when putting my daughter to bed. Highly recommend it !!

Just wondering if anyone chooses bike riding over walking? Very keen on riding, but also don't want the gas pains that walking is supposed to help with - am supposed to be getting surgery in a little over a month, would love to get back on my bike and do my 20km to work in the morning & 20km back in the evening! Currently (pre weight loss) I drive 1/2 way and ride the other half everynow and then - seems like a waste though, I want to do it all dammit! So does riding help with the gas pains? Or do I really have to walk to get rid of them? Ideally, i'd like to start this 2-3 weeks after surgery - too soon? Thanks team!

I've been exercising but just bike, treadmill, and light weights until I got my full workout clearance. I thought I was doing pretty well. I'm losing weight like a bypass patient (so I'm told). So I went to step class tonight. I finished the whole class but sheesh was I winded. I'm so out of shape it's not even funny. I can do 40 minutes of cardio on a machine but this was so much more intense. Wow. I'm totally feeling it right now. But I'm proud of myself. I didn't give up. I really wanted to about 30 minutes into it (ok, I lie. I wanted to call it a day about 10 minutes in! LOL) Anyway, I had my handy dandy heart rate monitor on. I burned 638 calories with 45% of that…

Okay, apparently I've upped my sweaty workouts past the point that my current deodorant can handle it. I don't mind the sweat, but I do mind the smell. Any tips on deodorant? Or do I just get used to smelling like I did hard labor on a prison chain gang in the Florida sun???

OK so today I reached a 15.0 incline on the treadmill, but only going at a speed of 3.5 ...what do you think is better going faster at a lower incline OR slower at a higher incline? I will say it felt like I got a GREAT workout done even though I only did 30 minutes (due to my hectic schedule, not to mention aunt flow has visited me not once but TWICE this month, I have NO IDEA what that's about, NEVER happened to me before, but I will save that for another post LOL), and I typically do 45 minutes at a speed of 4.0-4.5 but 2.5-5.0 incline. Aaaaaaanyhoo, just curious to see what y'all think...SPEED OR INCLINE???

So today i have decided to get back to what i know works. After not going to the gym for the past 10 weeks after the tummy tuck i have really gotten lazy. To top it off, my plastic surgeon removes all the fill and for 8 weeks i had nothing. Talk about getting knocked off my high-horse. For the past two years i had it in my head that should anything happen to my band that i could do it on my own.... boy was i wrong. My hunger came back with a vengeance. I'm hungry all the time and i can eat ANYTHING... since my TT i have gained back 5lbs.... and i'm not happy about that. Now i have 5cc in my band and i'm still hungry. So this week i'm going back for 5 more. I ne…

I usually workout for an hour in the evenings (8 ish) to avoid the after work crowd.. I try not to eat anything after 7pm.. it help w/ my reflux and stuff.. BUT... I'm starving after I work out!!! Is that normal?? I started feeling hungry (not like pre-sleeve) after I starting working out regularly..Is this normal??? Should I stick w/ a protein drink or yogurt or what?? For the last 3 months, the toes in my left foot are numb when I go to the park and walk. Yesterday I went to the foot doctor and he said I had a pretty good size pinched nerve causing it to flare up when I walk and that I need to come in every 2 weeks for the next couple months and get a shot. Between him and the Lap Band man, needles are making me a bit skiddish I just hope that since I am forced to slow down on the walking that I don't slow the weight loss process down too much. I told my husband, we need to get some bikes or something that can help while my foot heels. Any other advise would be great. I do have a pool, but it is still too cold for the next couple mo…

I got some spray tan on a whim. I remembered way back when using Quick Tan....instant orange. I globbed it on one night before my high school rock band, The Spyders,(1966), had a gig. I was quite embarrassed but tried to play it like it was part of the act, ...the citrus look. That was before the Oompa Loompas copied me. Anyway, I bought some at Sally's beauty supply on one of the many times my daughter and granddaughters dragged me there. Tanwise is the name, $10. I scrubbed my face; surface preparation, then had my wife spray it on. Having never worked in a body shop she ran it pretty bad so we had to sacrifice a washcloth to even it out and wipe up the floor. I mu…

Found out about this today....think the offer ends on the 30th. This info comes from someone else: Go the photo dept at Walgreens and ask for the Walk with Walgreens free pedometer kit, which also includes a drawstring bag. I registered online before I went, but I think you can register there as well. They do have to ring you up and zero out the transaction. Oh, and the drawstring bag and pedometer both say Celebrity Apprentice on them. I guess Walgreens is a big sponsor of the show. I think the offer only runs through April. Bonus: you can log your miles and earn coupons. to pre-register: http://walk.walgreens.com/

As a person with an addictive personality I have one of the most illogical fears. I have a very sporatic relationship with exercise and I have failed so miserably time and time again.. What if I start exercising again like I always do and lose a ton of weight and then stop. will I gain it all back even with the sleeve. I am too afraid to start this cycle but I want to lose weight. Do I have to exercise like crazy to lose weight with the sleeve? Anyone else have this fear?

Hello, I'll be getting VSG in a couple of months and I am 100% nervous about saggy skin. My Aunt had the gastric and she doesn't have TOO much saggy skin just the arms. She has two children and was 39 approaching 40 when she got it. I'm 29 no children and my skin is very tight..even weighing 280 so I carry it well. But I am over weight for my height of 5'5 anywho...I wanted to know if anyone used firming lotions(palmers nevia) or did anything BEFOR to try to supress the saggy skin. I plan to do mucho weight lifting etc to help out after but any feedback will be great.

Has anyone heard of being a non-responder? Apparently 1 in 6 individuals show little to no effects from exercise. I mean, they feel good obviously and get stronger but do not show any marked change in weight loss or body composition. Has anybody heard of this and is there any way to counteract it? I'm afraid I might be one, it would explain so much, like how I can put in 7 hours of hard gym time per week doing a wide variety of activities for 6 months and yet see no change in weight nor significant gains in ability or strength. =(

I'm kinda stuck around this 206 mark and am guessing it will move at some point. Hoping anyway. I have been floating back and forth here for over a week. I am getting anywhere from 700-1000 calories a day as intake but then my exercise drops it by about 300, sometimes a little more. I am confused if I am suppose to eat more to have a net of 1000 or what? My NUT's instructions are only to be low carb - keep them under 30. Well I am doing that. I know I could do only liquids and start the loss again but I don't want to live on liquids forever and shouldn't I be consuming foods for my other organs? Any comments?

So I've been working out 5-6 days a week. I usually keep them to an hour. I'll do a class at my gym (classes are usually toning and strength classes) or I'll go swimming. I'm going to start including more weights and jogging. The problem is my energy level. I know it's because I'm not getting enough calories in, but it's really hard because I get full fast and I'm still trying to get my water in...which is hard too because I'm still doing protein supplements (shake and Isopure, daily). And the weekends are the worst because I forget to eat. I'm tired all the time, but I don't let that stop me from working out because I'd feel guilty. Mondays are my rest days and I still w…

Okay - so I am going to start the Couch to 5K. I have everything ready...but my only concern is that as of tomorrow I will be two weeks out. I can't remember if my doctor said it was okay to run a little at this time or just walk. I know he said no treadmill, tennis...etc for a month because of the pulling potion on your tummy....does that apply to running as well? Anyone know? Thanks!

Hey team, I bought a P90X set last year, but I've got a membership to a Crossfit gym plus I'm running now, so I've realized that I won't have time for P90X anytime in the near future. Looking to sell it, it's been opened but not used, so the DVDs should all be in tip-top shape. I'm in Canada and I'll take Paypal. Make me an offer via PM.

I'm 31 years old I've never had a child and I'm 5feet 4inches. Honestly I don't mind the saggy skin if I'm healthy but I would like to hear how some people have done thanks for the feedback.

I am still a good way off from my overall goal weight of 215, but I am a little over 5 months post op and have met many goals so far. I am off my blood pressure medicine, off my cholesterol meds, free of joint (knee) pain, a little more energy than I had before and my strength is coming back to where it was pre-sleeve. One of my main concerns about the surgery and weight loss was my overall strength. If I had ANY real reservations about having the sleeve, it was due to my concern about a loss of muscle/strength, particularly a loss that I wouldn't be able to get back. I've lifted my whole life and have enjoyed what weightlifting (resistance training) has given back to me.…

Hi guys! Well it's been a month since my VSG, and I really want to start working out mainly for health reasons, so I want to start one set of the fitness dvd's from beachbody.com But there is catch to it. I have had ACL surgery on my left knee, and due to negligence, I feel worst now than before the surgery. (doing a squat is a real painful challenge for me, and even swimming can be difficult). I had second opinions, and they all advice that the stronger my leg, the better for the future (and if i decide to have a second surgery, my body will be better prepared for managing the physical therapy after surgery). But it is difficult to become stronger if things like squa…

So there for awhile I was training with the c25k. I would do it every other day. Then on the opposite days of not training I would do lifting 2lbs weights because that is what I was told to use. So I decided to just walk at a brisk pace with 1lbs wrist weights. I have been averaging 2 miles a day. Is this good? Is using wrists weights good? Should I continue my workout with 2 lbs weights too? I'm 5'1" 218 and I am 28 yrs old. Any advice would be great!

Sooo I used to have muscles in my biceps because I did push-ups almost daily due to my old job. But now the front of my arms are kind of flabby with stretch marks. The backs of my arms are fine. I'm don't want to get muscles again. Should I start working my arms now or wait until later. I've heard high reps low weight works. Is this true? Or any tips or suggestions on how to tone my upper front arms (biceps area)? Sent from my iPhone using VST

I sure could use some advice from you old pro's. I was banded in 2008, never did well on the diet or lost much weight. Since January of this year (late bloomer I guess) have decided to finally kick myself into gear. I went to the doctor and now have 4 cc in my band after removing 2 cc due to overfilled complications. I have been logging all of my food on MFP, eating 1000 calories a day (per my doc's order) and have been at the gym for an hour 5-6 days a week. (Mostly eliptical and couch to 5K on the treadmill) ABSOLUTELY NO WEIGHT LOSS. I have yo-yo'd 4-5 pounds up and down but I cannot explain why it keeps coming back! I am not changing a thing to make it go and come bac…

Just went to my yearly physical, I was sweating bullets as I have been eating a lot more than I was back when I had my first labs done a year ago. I was afraid I would be back in the poor results camp after a stellar report last year. Well . . . it's dang near PERFECT AGAIN! BP was 120/80 (in the doctors office, I have a lot of "white coat syndrome" issues) cholesterol was 133 - actually LOWER than last year, triglycerides was 64! Fasting blood sugar was 88. All the other blood tests were right in the good to excellent range. Man, why didn't I get sleeved years ago! I cannot endorse this surgery enough, it has RADICALLY changed my life and health. I may fall ove…
