Hey all So i have various cardio workouts down.. but I am sure I need to add strength training of some sort into my workouts and not just jog/run/walk/jog/run/walk etc .. but I have NO Idea what to add and still continue to lose. I think my body is getting to use to the treadmill.. no matter if im inclining or not. Any advice? I dont want to go pay 90/session for a trainer if I dont have to!

  2. Ok i have lost alot of weight 195 lbs i sill have a ways to go and have done well but i have that excess skin "GAG ME PLEASE" any ways i started zumba the beginning of january we had to go to 2 different buildings because our zumba building wasnt finished yet lets just say there was just one mirror for the the instructor and i was fine with that cause i didnt have to look at myself thinking i was doing good which i was until today when we started at the new building and mirrors across the front now everybody see's you and i had to watch myself ! Boy did my selfesteem go way back down when i seen myself compared to those other girls and everything was just a jiggling and i…

  3. I'm almost two years out, so all healed with no complications. Spent the past year dealing with breast cancer, but I'm all clear and approved by my docs to get back to life. Started working out again - doing the FitLinxx circuit plus cardio for the past two weeks and feeling good until I was doing pushups off a stability ball (lower abdomen on the ball - hands on the floor). Not surprising that I could feel my port, but the resulting nausea and trip to the bathroom with severe diarrhea sure was. At first I thought maybe I'd caught a stomach bug but I've felt fine and have been able to work out since, yet I can't shake this heartburn feeling in the back of my throat. My hi…

  4. Started by Jenn1214,

I've been going to the gym regularly for about 6 weeks now. 3 days a week I do an hour of cardio and the other 3 days I do cardio and then weights with a trainer. My tolerance and endurance have been steadily improving...until today. I did my cardio with no problems, then met with the trainer. From the get go I knew something was off. I was getting winded way too easily and sweating more than usual. Finally about half an hour in, I was doing some leg extensions with a cable and I felt nauseous and dizzy and the lights started to dim, so I sat down immediately. I have never passed out before, but I assume that's what almost happened. I never want to feel that way again.…

  5. So I saw that a lot of people rave about how much they like the "Couch to 5K" training plan. So I decided I would try it out. But I do have some questions. Are you only aloud to do the cardio for that day? Can you still work your legs out on the machines? I really want to run a 5K in April and I want to give myself the best shot possible. Any sugestions?

  6. Started by legnarevocrednu,

Since November 11th, I have been losing about 4 pounds a week on average. A week ago, I joined the gym. I have gone a total of 6 times since then. This is the first week I have not lost ANYTHING since surgery. It really makes me upset. I thought starting to work out would help with my weight loss but it seems to be doing the exact opposite. Are there any medical reasons for this? Am I gaining muscle maybe? Retaining water? As you will see in my previous post, I have been eating more on gym days because I felt like I needed the extra calories because I would be burning calories. But maybe that's not the right thing to do. I have not once gone over my calorie limit either. …

  7. Started by Bryn,

I will be 1 year out at the end of April. I am 60 something pounds down and I would like to at least reach 80lbs out. I get to the gym about 4-5x/week but would like to switch things up and I got P90x today. My SO is doing it and now I want to. I am of course going to modify some exercises (looked through some of the routines today) but overall it seems like what I want. I can hit the gym in the morning and when i come home from work I can do the P90x. I've seen people get great results from it. I finally got my eating back on track so this can only be beneficial for me. Just curious to read anyone else's stories (good and bad). Thanks!

getting ready for reentering the gym scene, i need a good athletic shoe for 300 + lbs. Anyone have any recommendations?

  9. so I can see my progress. I had one on my old laptop but can't transfer it for some reason, that I liked. I pulled up the site but no longer available. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to technology but I can learn a few tunes if it's easy. Any suggestions here? I'd be grateful to you.

Does anyone have any advice for working out after a 12-hour shift? I feel so beat/tired while working three 12-hour shifts overnight (usually in a row), so I was wondering if anyone did anything to energize themselves?

When can I go swimming after surgery? I want to use the pool at fitness center.

  15. Hey everyone, I am feeling some soreness/discomfort after having football practice the past 2 days. We practice for 4 hours Saturdays and 4 hours Sundays. We are just doing a lot of conditioning (running, sit-ups, push ups etc.) right now, not much contact. I haven't been hit in the stomach or anything like that. Maybe I just over did it, but my port hurts to the touch, it feels kind of like a bruise. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them after exercising??

I got an Xbox kinect on Cyber Monday this year and really love exercising with it. I only have the Kinect Adventures game, Fruit Ninja, and Gun slinger but am going to get some more on pay day. It is really great for working out indoors when it is cold out. I feel embarrassed going to a gym right now because I think people are looking at me and judging how fat I am. I was walking outside in the Spring and Summer but it is so cold out to do that now. I hope using the Kinect will get me exercising more.

I have been out of commission since August and it's driving me crazy!!! I have been really moody and feeling under the weather since then. I miss my running!! So, starting Sunday I'm RE starting my Couch to 5K running plan. I can't wait! It should be a lot easier this time around than the first time... haha! I've gotten some much slimmer legs so that should help a lot! Though I have done a little here and there, but have only ran one full 5K in between all my down times. In those getting back into it, I've noticed taking a break of a few weeks or more and I have to recondition my muscles all over again. So... but this time I won't have to stop!!! YAYYYAYYYY!!! …

  21. Started by legnarevocrednu,

So I need some opinions here. On the days I go to the gym, I eat a lot more. Around 1000 calories or so. I eat almost every 2 hours...it seems and sounds like a lot! I do that because I usually burn at least 400 calories at the gym, leaving me between 600 and 700 calories. Is this the right way to do it? On days I don't go to the gym, I just stick to my 3 meals a day and eat every 4 hours. On those days, I try not to go over 800 calories. I always feel guilty for eating so much on gym days (all healthy things though...with a focus on protein). I figure if I didn't eat more, I'd probably be left with less than 400 calories for the day and that just doesn't seem right. Sooo…

I wanna get a HRM but I dont know what kind? I was considering the fitbit but was wondering if anyone could make a recomendation?

  23. Any ideas? Want to make sure that I am doing the right thing. Do I eat a protein bar before or after? Drink a protein drink? Eat a peanut butter sandwich??? Help! Thanks.

  24. I was at the gym last night, 40 minutes on the elliptical and it stated I burned around 500 calories, so after that gym how long after do you burn more calories than you usually would?

  25. I have what they call "underpronation". I need a good pair of tennis shoes for the gym, zumba etc. If I ever start to run, I would buy a different pair. Where can I go to be fitted? I need a place that can confirm my "diagnosis" of underpronation, so the staff needs to be knowledgeable and offer a personalized service. I don't know if the running shoe stores also sell cross trainers.

Weights, cardo, walking, biking, treadmill or what??? I know everyone is different but, I want to get ideas to make sure I make the best out of all my workouts.

I am doing research on the Gastric Sleeve and one of my worries is with skin. What happens to our skin after such rapid weight loss? Is there anything that I can do to avoid or reduce the amount of skin that hangs? Also, what type of effect does the skin have on the self esteem? I appreciate any feedback. I am just worried... Thanks

Hi, my name is Lisa. I was banded a year ago, 1/13/11. I have lost 75 pounds and I am very pleased with the results. I am exercising more than ever. My question is, does anyone have any trouble with abdominal exercises? I feel like I can feel the band and it hurts - not horribly so, just uncomfortable. It's more of a fear of doing damage. I was just wondering if anyone experienced this and what you did. Thanks so much.

So having been the fat girl my whole life I've always been terrified of going to the gym where everyone will stare. I joined planet fitness 3 months ago and still haven't gone even though I have friends who are willing to go with me. One of them is 5'10 and weighs like 125lbs soaking wet so I doubt I'd ever go with her. The others are chunky girls so it wouldn't be so awkward, but I can't get myself to go. I freak out and cancel. Any tips on how to get over this?

Happy New Year, all!!! I'm ready to hit the ground running (or at least walking fast)...are you? Let's start this year right by challenging ourselves to MOVE every day! I am issuing myself a personal challenge to walk 90 miles this month. I'm trying to ready myself to do a 50-mile hike with my son the first weekend of March. I don't want it to hurt as much as it sounds like it might! I hope to see a lot of people checking in on their own exercise challenges.

LOL - Yep, I'm excited. And I am honestly comfortable now saying that I am a runner. In fact, it is pretty much the only form of exercise I have the patience to do. I've ran a few 5k's but for some reason have been nervous to do anything longer, but I'm biting the bullet and doing a 10k on NYE. My ultimate goal is to do a half marathon next December.

And lastly, What about Just Dance? Is there any other fun workout games for these? Thanks for your help!

Hey everyone! My one month bandiversary is tomorrow 1/6. I play women's tackle football and we start practice back this weekend. I was wondering how everyone did with exercise early on... How much did you do? What kinds of things? Don't worry I won't be getting hit or anything for a few months, we will just be doing a lot of conditioning (running, jumping, sit-ups, push-ups etc.) I saw my surgeon last week and forgot to ask about practice. I'll probably email him tonight, but just in case I can't get a hold of him before Saturday, What do you all think?? Thanks. :-) Annamarie

I've been working on the treadmill in hopes of toning up my legs in addition to using some of the other leg related strength training machines at the gym. there is one particular machine that is geared toward the calves - I'm afraid to use it because I don't want my calves to get any bigger. Will using the machine help me to decrease my calf size and tone up the muscle or will the muscle I already have just get bigger? Also, I have HUGE knees. 44. They found a hiatal hernia during my pre-op workups and so I had that taken care of at the same time. I have been reading that where the HH is concerned, I'm to avoid abdominal work and workouts that exercise core muscles for weeks or even months. Can this really be true? I have participated in a boot camp program that I really love on and off for the last couple of years and she works in a lot of horizontal conditioning/training plus traditional calisthenics, both of which focus on strengthening the core. Has anyone else dealt with this?

My membership came with two free personal training sessions and I had my first one yesterday. The trainer did some fitness tests to see how I reacted to certain types of exercise and let's just say I did pretty pitifully. Today I'm in a nice amount of pain in my legs and abs, but I keep telling myself it can only get better from here. I plan to continue with the personal training so she can get me on the right track.
