Not sure if this has been asked before...I couldn't find any recent posts on it... Has anyone purchased The Firm Express DVDs? They are offering the set for 3 payments of $29.99 and I was thinking of trying it. I like that it is a 20 minute workout and the short bursts of intensity seem like something I could keep up with. I'm a total beginner and I have no interest in a P90X type workout! Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi All, I was watching Extreme Makeover Weight Loss the other night. It was with a man named James who had 250lbs to lose. He had been doing water areobics and the host Chris Powell pretty much poopooed it implying that it did not offer enough resistance and would not get him anywhere. I always thought water aerobics was a good form of exercise. A friend who does it an hour three times a week told me that she is suppose to be burning 500 calories an hour. How can that not be good?

Hi All, I have a question about vigorous vs moderate exercise. I am in my fifties and have what I think of is a good regime I walk 2 hours with hills five days a week and a second 30 minute walk at night 7 days a night averaging over 20,000 steps. I wear a bodybogg which logs my walking as moderate when I was heavy I'd hit vigorous on the hills. Do I need to get in the vigorous zone or is two hours in the moderate zone okay?

I've been thinking A LOT about the future, after I have my surgery, and thinking about what that future will really look like after the weight loss and reconstructive surgery and such.... I see myself in a YELLOW POLKADOT BIKINI!!! ( I found and purchased one from Target for the future me!) Holding my baby at the beach and literally just being happy with how I look.. and knowing that everyone else is happy with how I look too. I have always been comfortable with my body, but other people never have been.... so that's my future... what I'm looking forward to! <3 Not to mention having an ACTUAL baby bump!! LOL At 306 pounds ( as of today -90 pounds baby oh yeah) I…

Occasionally I don't eat a whole lot and exercise quite a bit - big change for me - and according to the caloric / exercise records I have been keeping I run up a negative caloric count. Like today I ate 994 calories and supposedly burned off 1505 with 90 minutes of swimming, 30 minutes on a stationary bike and 30 minutes of weight training. That says I not only burned off ALL the calories I ate today AND 511 calories more. I know the math but want to know if there is any consequences if I keep doing this. It isn't usually that high a deficit, typically 50 to 150 cals negative on 3 or 4 days a week is more typical. I know I should be eating a tad more but just can…

So, i'm sooooo careful about charting my weight daily and looking back over the last 4 weeks i've realized that i lose the most on Sunday and Monday, which coincide with the huge amount of dancing i do on Saturday night into Sunday morning... but for the days i'm just walking... zip!! SO... from now on i'm going to forget about walking... it uses a lot of time for very few calories burned... instead i'm going to focus on higher intensity aerobic exercise!!! I'm 11 days post op! I want to start jogging & working out these legs of mine. Is it too early? I have another post-op appointment on Friday - so I can ask my doctor. But I'd kind of like to start NOW According to how I'm feeling, I would think it'd be fine... but I tend to get ahead of myself! Any opinions?

I finally got to do my first WA class this morning, and man... you guys were right. It's a lot more work than I was expecting! The class is 45 minutes and all done with the float-y dumbells. Lots of kicking, jumping, lifting. I really underestimated how much work it would be. It was a GREAT workout and I moved parts of my body that arthritis just won't let me move when I'm on land. The weirdest part was getting out of the pool when it was over, it felt like I was gaining weight as I climbed the steps and I almost had problems walking on the pool deck. Amazing how the Water takes so much pressure off of you. Thank you to everyone here who told me that it was a go…

Please help remember this is a temporary bump in the road! On top of it all I got that TOM and gained 4 pounds like over night! I know, I know, it is water weight and the pain meds making me hold on to water weight!

I am just starting my lap band journey. I have been to one seminar, but that docotr wasn't for me, so I am going to a few others. In the meantime, I have move all of the stuff that has been stored on my treadmill and I have started walking again. I can't seem to let go of the bars without feeling like I am going to fall. I know I will never get any speed without letting go. Any advice?

I had my 5 week appointment yesterday and was cleared for all exercise. Today instead of walking I decided to try jogging. Now I haven't jogged in probably 5 years. Anyway, all I can say is take it slow when you start. It wasn't so much my legs that hurt but my hips were killing me shortly after I started. Those limbs haven't been moved that way in so long they were screaming at me. I'm going to take it easy and work my way up to a run now, but if you're starting out don't do what I did and push too hard too soon. This may sound like common sense but when you're excited to start something it's easy to forget!

I am looking into becoming a beachbody coach ( makers of p90x, insanity, turbofire etc.) and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in me being their coach. P90X is an AMAZING fitness routine that coud benefit ANYONE in this forum. I dont want to persue this opportunity if there isnt a need for it. Has anyone thought about doing P90X? Along with P90X comes a product called Shakeology. You may have heard it because it has been on Oprahs talk show. Its a meal replacement shake. Take some time, look into things, and let me know if you are interested:) I am a gastric bypas patient that revisioned from lapaband but my main interest is in weightloss period. Send me a mess…

Hello Everyone! This is actually my first post on LapBandTalk even though I have been a member since October! I have been reading tons of forums and soaking up all the advice and pointers. I think that it is amazing how open and supportive everybody on here is to eachother! So here goes my first post!... I was banded this past December and I have been progressing pretty well so far (50lbs down, started at 247, now at 197-199)...I have hit a plateau (same weight for about 2 months) and I know the only way to get out of it is to kick up my activity and curb my cravings..I am on my feet all day at work (I work in retail) climbing latters and lifting things, so …

The last couple weeks I have been doing zumba 3 times per week, treadmill 30 mins 5 days a week & upper & lower strength training 5 times per week. I have been drinking 2 protein shakes and a regular dinner. Next week I start my 800 calorie 2 week liquid diet.... With the exercise I have been doing already I stay weak and tired all the time. I would love to hear some opinions on wether I should keep up the exercises while on the liquid diet or not. thanks!

Hi Everyone, I would really like some help on this. I'm 19 days post op and according to my doctor I can start cardio after 2 weeks and ab work after 3 weeks. My question is that a lot of cardio calls for you to use your abs and what about the jumping around. I'm really nervous about jumping around and dancing so can you guys give me some advice as to what you are doing. I'm doing Turbo Fire which is high impact cardio, right now I'm doing it very low key. Any help would be apprecitaced.

I just got back from the gym. Did an upper body workout as well as walking 1 mile on the treadmill. Walked slow on the treadmill but slow and steady wins the race eh? I never realized how great exercise can make ya feel.. Not only is it good for weightloss but it is great emotionallly. I plan to do more as time goes on but at 355 lbs I am patting myself on the back. Have a great day all!

I was doing Ab Ripper X last night (from P90X) and about 3/4 of the way through, I was doing some exercise and I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen near where my port is. I always feel a little pain there when I do ab exercises so I didn't really think anything of it. When I got done, I noticed if I inhaled a very deep breath, I would get a sharp pain in the general vicinity of the port. I'm thinking (hoping not) that I might have stretched something or damaged something. Anyone have a similar experience ?

Hello everyone! I am finally getting back on track with my food and so I am ready to start concentrating on exercise. I was wondering if anyone has tried the Turbo fire. Lets be honest at 270lbs no exercise is easy and on the videos the people are like 120 to start so i was wondering if anyone closer to my weight has tried them and are they too hard at this weight or did you do just fine? They look like a blast but really hard so before I waste my money, I wanted some opinions! Thanks!

I am hoping we are having some more experienced runners around. I am planning on doing my first 5k in May. I am a treadmill runner/walker, and as I am losing weight, I am getting a lot better. Yesterday morning, I ran 40 minutes with an average of 4.5mph (2.8 miles), which included a slower start up and going up to 6mph for a few minutes. Now, I am my own worst critique, and no - just making it won't be good enough for me. I am not of the "Gold stars for everyone" generation, I want a time that I am not embarrassed about - I can only imagine people looking at me thinking "Oh geez, finally the fat chick drags her a$$ across the finish line - good job wasting our time …

So I'm getting ready to start a cycle of P90X and I want to try to follow it to the letter. Based on my information, their nutrition plan calls for an intake of around 2400 calories to provide enough energy to complete the workout program. Currently, I am limiting myself to about 1250-1400 calories a day, depending on my exercise. Has anyone done P90X and kept your low caloric intake, and if so, were you able to have enough energy to complete the program ? I think we all know that once you are banded and don't eat crap, 2400 calories seems like a lot to get in during a day...

It's very much similar to Chalene Johnson's Beach body TURBO JAM. It has alot of her moves (that's why I nailed every move during my first class) Loved the class. An hour's worth of constant movements and it's fun! I actually like it alot more than ZUMBA (sorry people). I don't like the latin-inspired music.. If you haven't tried it, I do recommend trying out BOTH classes to see if you're more of a ZUMBA person or a TURBO kickboxing person. Just wanted to share!

I had my surgery a couple of weeks ago and have been starting into soft foods. I've gained a couple of pounds back from that and so I joined a gym so that I can start exercising because I really want this to work out for me and I'm terrified that it's not going to despite my husband's encouragement. Now my problem is that I went to the gym today and was completely overwhelmed... There were two really thin women and a bunch of fit guys which just made me feel more awkward. But that's something I have to learn to ignore because everyone has to start somewhere right? I specifically joined this gym because they offer classes so I plan to do yoga and Zumba but I also nee…

I have been working out with a personal trainer and he has been vigilant about making sure that I follow my doctor's orders over his. He asked me to check in with my doctor, because he wants me to do a two week cleanse. I emailed my doctor and I am awaiting his response. Has anyone out there ever done a cleanse after the band? I did it in the past, do the rules change or what? I thought I'd ask while waiting to hear from my doctor.

I have always had a problem with overdoing when I exercise. I try to start small and work up gradually but I end up getting worn out and can't do anything for a week or more. This lady tells you how to build up after WLS. She said to increase the time by 10% per week. I hope this works for me. This is an excellent lecture for those new to the band or exercise. It is called "Lecture on Importance of Exercise Immediately After Weight Loss Surgery Weight Loss Surgery http://www.dynamic-progress.com/exercise-video-lecture/ http://www.youtube.c...t=FLFNut9fnDIMQ

I have a few friends who are really into biking (with a bicycle, not a motorcycle). In fact, right now one of them is on a 50 mile ride. After they dropped a considerable amount of weight, and hearing the stories, and seeing the pics of their rides, I decided to give it a try, and bought a bike last year. I've got to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of it. I'm not comfortable riding on roads with cars, which rules out most local rides, and the only alternative is putting the bike on the back of the car, and going to a local bike trail, which is a pain in the butt. After some soul searching I've come to realize I MUCH prefer walking, and hiking. I can listen to my ipo…

Okay here's what happened to me. In May I worked my ass off. I worked out 5-6 days a week for 30-40 minutes and killed it. I was eating 1200 calories a day and getting around 80 grams of Protein. But I didn't loose anything I only lost 3 pounds. My doctors were really upset and I felt really discouraged as well. In June I continued to work out, not loosing anything. However when my work out partner went on vacation I stopped working out. In that 10 days, I lost 15 pounds. So what should I do? Should I stop working out as much? Maybe 3 to 4 times a day? Or should I just stop and let the weight fall off that way? I like working out but I want to work out and also…

Just found out yesterday that I should be having my surgery in a litte over 3 weeks. I'm supposed to go ahead and start exercising now too. Doing muscle building type exercise was recommended over cardio, specifically using resistance bands. But not specific exercises! I'm so out of shape and having so much back, neck and shoulder pain and I'm just not sure what to do or where to get info. If you go to a gym or a trainer they want to kill you right off even though it's obvious I'm out of shape as hell. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi everyone! Is anyone looking for a body bugg? I have a body bugg. I am not really using it because the strap irritated my arm. I have very sensitive skin. I will consider any offer. Email me at nails18@aol.com. Please put Body Bugg in the subject line so I can find it in my spam file! Thanks!

Hey everyone! I have a couple of questions about excerise and what everyone uses. I'm only 5 weeks out and I'm really excited to actually start the ab excersises. The thing is I have no clue where to start! I've always ran my whole life, I'm fine with that (a few years of playing soccer and lacrosse) but I wanted to really get focused with my body. I know if I do weight training and what not there's a less likely chance of my skin to sag. I wanted to know if anyone had any good results with dvds/videos and stuff. So I'm just looking for some advice. I really want to start good habits early so that I don't get lazy later on =p plus schools out for me so the goal for …

I signed up for Water aerobics at the Y, starting in a few weeks. It's 3 mornings a week, 40 minutes per class. Now, hopefully this won't offend anyone, but I definitely associate water aerobics with little old ladies in flowered swim caps I'm 32, and I have osteoarthritis in both knees. I was on antiinflammatories for them before surgery, but I stopped taking it since it was an NSAID. I was hoping by now my knees would be feeling much better, but they're not. So while I've been hitting the gym 2x weekly and doing the elliptical, it's still rough on my knees. So has anyone here done water aerobics? Is it worth it or is it going to be a waste of my time? Hi there! I was just wondering how many other folks on here are into yoga. Despite being overweight for a long time in my life, I've been doing yoga for over 10 years. I taught modified yoga classes to other overweight folks for a while to show that yoga can be done by all body styles, even people with very limited mobility, as long as the pose is modified enough. Anyhoo, I was curious if there is anyone else around here? My goal is to eventually heal myself enough and become healthy enough to become a yoga teacher as a side career. It's probably my favorite form of exercise.
