Fitness & Exercise

Fitness and exercise after weight loss surgery. Workouts, strength training, routines, and staying active for the long haul.

  1. Started by Jess55,

I went kickboxing for the first time Monday. I very much enjoyed it and made it through the class (was soaked after though..lol). I went again tonight and was going to sign up for a membership, the only problem the only reasonable option was $64 a month with a 1 year commitment. Kind of worried about the commitment part. I have wanted to do martial arts for a while, but was going to try tae kwon do or something but was waiting til my weight dropped some more. I could just do the kickboxing for now, I've only taken 2 classes so far bit it seems to have kicked my weight loss up a notch already. What do you guys think, should I do it? I also already go to the gum a…

Just wondering if any of you have lost a significant amount of weight with walking. I don't like going to the gym with the exception of weight lifting on the machines. I can walk 2-3 miles a day and I enjoy doing exercise tapes. I just don't see myself being a "gym rat".

  5. Started by stateofzen,

I've finally started exercising a bit after about 6 months. I've been doing Zumba twice a week for about a month, then added belly dancing once a week about three weeks ago and on Friday, went to my first yoga class. Well, the yoga on Friday followed by Zumba on Saturday kicked my abs butt. I am super sore, and have some twingy pain around my port. The problem with Zumba is that with all of the jumping around, my belly moves in sometimes painful ways (I need to wear a compression shirt under my t-shirt to do it to hold everything tight). So with all of the ab work I did in Yoga, followed by the belly jostling with Zumba, I'm feeling it two days later. I guess…

Ok so I have big boobs to put it simple. I have been looking for a good sports bra for when I go to the gym. Any recommendations???

  8. I am starting my workout again tomorrow morning. It is every morning at 5 am. I know it sounds ridiculous but I love it and I wouldnt have it any other way. There are absolutely no excuses at that time of the day. Anyways I am not sure what to eat before hand. Prior to surgery I would have cranberry juice and a granola bar. I am on soft foods now and need some ideas on what to eat before I go. My plan is to get up at 4 take my medicine and have a little water or no sugar added juice and then start eating something at 440 while i am driving to workout. Thanks for any suggestions!!!! 9. I've just heard about the Lotte Berk Technique and how it apparently burns fat and shapes muscles during the workout to get "the body of a dancer" Has anyone tried this? Its meant to be like Madonna's new fitness regime Barre 3- which I'd never heard about before either. There's a lot of abdominal exercises involved and I am wondering how that goes with the lap band. I've had the band now for just over 3 months and haven't done much exercise other than walking. Any info would be appreciated.

So I want to do a race with my boyfriend on Oct. 2 (about 8 weeks out from my VSG). There's a choice between a 4k and an 8K. Before the surgery, I had done a number of 10Ks, but I haven't run in a few months and obviously won't be able to start for at least another 2-3 weeks - in the meantime, I've started swimming so I'm not completely out of shape with cardio. So while I want to do an 8K, I'm hesitant to sign up with less than a month to train for it, starting essentially from 0. For those of you who've run before the surgery, how soon did you start running again? How quickly were you able to get back into pre-surgery shape? Do you think an 8K is realistic 2 months afte…

Dry skin flaking off the scalp and itchiness is referred to as dandruff. Dandruff is one of the most common scalp problem people are facing today. There are two main types of dandruff - dry dandruff and oily dandruff. Those with an oily skin tend to suffer from oily dandruff while those with dry skin suffer from dry dandruff. One of the popular methods of eliminating dandruff is by using anti-dandruff shampoos. But these shampoos are ineffective after some months. Nevertheless, you can cure dandruff naturally and obtain permanent relief from this condition. More and more people across the world are eagerly opting for the natural and herbal cures. There is now a very…

I just have a problem with consistency! I am also pretty overweight so I feel self-conscious when running/jogging. Should I lose more weight before I even consider it or just give it a go?

I've been wanting to try Zumba for about a year. The gym I currently belong to doesn't offer it at many locations or times I need so I haven't been able to try a class. I have done the Zumba videos but really wanted to try a class. I used to be a on the dance team in high school and currently take Swing dance lessons with my husband (for fun and because we have a plus size Rockabilly, Swing clothing line) so I think I can follow dance instructors pretty well. I told the ladies around me that it was my first time and that I might crash into them. They were super nice about it and even showed me a few quick moves before the class started. I have never done a spin class, and am super intimidated. The one time I tried, the seat hurt my dainty bits so much I gave up after 5 minutes and was bruised for a week. Granted, that was 80+ pounds ago, but still. Any advice on how to approach? There is just one basic class available, and it is not a beginner's course. How can I ease into it?

I really didn't know where else to put this, so I figured this could be classified in the "Fitness" section. I found a website that measures a great deal many things, more than just the classic BMI. It measures fat percent, Waist/Hip ratios, differences for men and women, and much much more. Here is how I measured up. My current BMI is 34.12 - which falls into the Obese 1 Category.. yay!! Ready to move into just the Overweight soon. My BMR measured at 1,710.89 - however since I've been on very low cals for at least 6 months now, this maybe true or I would guess it's less than that. My Body Fat% came out to 31.18. I was really shocked to see this!!!! It …

In 2009 and 2010 I ran 5 half marathons. In the early part of 2010 I hurt my back and couldn't run for 5 months. That caused me to put on 15 pounds. This year, I resolve to get that back off and to do that, I am committing myself to running my first full marathon in October in Columbus, Ohio. I may be here this fall asking for suport in that 2nd half of the race! I hope to be running 30 miles a week mos of the summer and 40-50 miles in late summer to fall. I'm sure that will he…

I didn't want to go back to the gym until I had lost about this much weight...I don't really have a reason why, I just feel more comfortable going now and things hurt/jiggle less. LOL. Anyways, I've noticed my arms are looking horrendous. So much so that I don't want to wear short sleeved shirts (let alone sleeveless). I'm pre WLS - December 2010 will hopefully be the time I change my life. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2008 but I suspect I've had it for close to twenty years. It's been much worse in the past few years because I've gained weight, been under a TON of stress and emotional distress, and have been sick because of toxic mold in my home. Exercise is very difficult for me because it causes pain during and a LOT of pain after and I struggle to get through it because I have muscle weakness and fatigue easily. I've never been one to get the adrenaline rush from exercise but I used to enjoy the burn the day or two after a great workout because it meant that I accompli…

I'm just curious what type of cardio everyone is doing and what you feel yields the best results? It seems like I have read somewhere that walking is the best for fat loss. I have an elliptical machine but I also enjoy doing the "Walk Away the Pounds" series. So I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are and why. I feel like walking is great for fat loss, but will using an elliptical trainer yield fat loss and muscle gain? Therefore, not giving the best numbers on the scale, but maybe giving better results from an inches lost prospective. I think as we are losing weight it's important to retain as much muscle tone as we can. It's very easy to lose muscle as we lose fat…

Hi, well, I've been reading the bodybugg reports and finally got one after not being able to lose a pound after 6 weeks. I was banded on February 13, 2007. At that time, I weighed 271.4. Six weeks ago, I weighed in at 246 and went back up to 249 due to fat loss/muscle gain. (Not complaining there) that is where I stayed until now. I wasn't depressed since I thought I was doing everything right. I was eating less and excercising more. Well, at least that is what I thought until I got the bodybugg.
