I'm 6 1/2 weeks out and started going back to the gym last friday. I used to work out 3-4 times a week for an hour (mainly cardio just to try and keep myself healthy despite being fat!) I find it very tiring now even though I'm about 23 pounds lighter, I can bearly do 40 min of cardio, does this happen to anyone else? I'm trying to go most days now, I think maybe doing 30-40 min 5 days a week will help with my weight loss, I hope! I am getting my proteins in (around 70grs) and my calories are around 900 now, which sounds like more than most of you get at this stage. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated:001_wub:

im 273 pounds, i have a bad knee and i physically lack the ability to sweat (i get terribly overheated, turn red and pass out. its a genetic issue, my mum is the same way). what are some exercises i can do at home? the gym is usually terribly packed during the day and id like something i can do here at home. at the gym i usually do about 10 minutes on the treadmill...after that im about ready to die. if i can stand it, i do a little weight lifting before i head home. ideas?

Well, after two years of no Zumba classes, my gym is starting a class every Tuesday night! Tonight is the first night and I'm SO excited. Of course, it's right after my other favorite class (Kick-n-Abs), so I am going to try to go to both!!! Teaching PE is exhausting, but I love how active I am becoming. If I could have more energy, I'd be at the gym every day after school, but I'm so excited for Zumba tonight!!!

I'm 5 days post-op and everybody keeps saying walk walk walk. So today I put on a sunhat, packed a little bottle of water and a little bottle of protein drink, put on my sunglasses, and took off. Leisurely stroll with plenty of stops to browse in shops, sat on a bench and knitted awhile, sip sip sipped. This was not a workout powerwalk by any means and yet after 3 hours I am finally back home and utterly wiped. Before anyone freaks out, at least 45 minutes of those 3 hrs was spent sitting on a bench knitting. I haven't had enough protein today (25gs) but a call from my nutritionist today convinced me that for right now #1 important is to be hydrated so water got ahe…

okay Ryansgirl.... your my inspiration. I have started weight lifting. Started last week, and I think I like it. I'm not doing free weights yet... just using the machines... but its kinda fun. I cant wait until I get to move up the weight. Here's what I've been told. do whatever amount of weight results in you being fatigued after 12 reps. You really only need to do one set of 12 reps. You don't want to push to the point where you are sore all the time. you want at least 48 hrs recovery time between workouts. Any other tips from anyone.... Everytime I go to the gym I see the pictures of ryans girls arms before and after. thanks stacey

Okay guys. I just saw a few people posting up saying that they started P90x this week or will soon, so someone had to start a public thread for it. One thing I have to say about it, though, before we get started. I, personally, think EVERYBODY should do this or Insanity. I swear that I'm not quoting the commercials to be a Beachbody whore, but LITERALLY, these are the hardest workouts I've ever done in my entire life, outside of football in high school. The first time I did P90x, I did probably half of what they did, if that, but NOW, I can actually do 2 pull ups and run a 5k, and I weigh 255lbs. I feel pretty accomplished, but nevertheless, my competitive nature pushe…

Ok, I tried this once before and got way to eager. I started moving quicker than designed. This time I will follow the guidelines. If you are not familiar with a Couch to 5K, it is a plan to go from not running at all to running 5k (3.2 miles) in only 2 months. It is very doable and such a great feeling of accomplishment. I ran/walked a 5k in May and it was one of the most rewarding things I have done in many years. Here is the link to the info.. If anyone is interested in training together just join in. Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan We will start on Monday, June 29. Let's get ready to MOVE!!!!!!:tt2:

Hey everyone, So the only way i could fit the gym in to my busy life was to go on my lunch breaks. luckly for me, they built a brand new lucille roberts about a mile from my job. so my new routine is.. 1pm i start on the elliptical and set it for weight loss program.. i put my weight and age and it automatically sets the program for 30 min. basically i am doing intervals of level 1 for 6 min, then level 8 for 6 min. my heart rate is averaged at 165 which according to the machine is above fat burning and in peak to high mode. i usually start off at a good pace.. not pushing or fast.. then after the 6 min the resistance changes to 8 and this is where i push and go …

I have been trying hard to keep up with my exercising. A gym is out of the picture for me right now, so I went searching for some alternatives, especially for strength training. Walking on a treadmill is pretty easy but figuring out what exercises to do to tone up is a bit hard for me without someone to tell me what to do, how many and the proper form, etc. Anyway, I decided to check what Netflix had in exercise videos, especially anything that was "Watch It Now" that I could stream instantly to the xbox, wii or computer. Lo and behold, they have quite a few! The whole list is here. I'm using the 10 Minute Solution: Target Toning for Beginners, which really is truly a…

I have limited resources (Iraq, army cob), can anyone recommend a resistance band workout that doesn't rely on a videotape? I want something that will strengthen and tone and I want to do it in my room until my confidence is high enough to get me to the public gym. Plus I'm concerned with maintaining/increasing muscle tone as I lose weight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone! Does anyone know any good exercises to get rid of this unsightly muffin top I'm getting? I'm happy that I'm slowly losing weight, and my pants are fitting better. But it's getting harder and harder to find shirts that don't prominently display my developing muffin top. It's a little embarassing. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hello everyone! I am scheduled to be sleeved on October 11th. I plan on getting in to a normal work our routine at least 5 days per week. When I've worked out before, I've done the interval training and really push myself with the cardio. My question is....When I am done with my workout I cannot drink enough water fast enough. How is this going to work after the sleeve? Is sipping going to "cut" it?

Hi All I have taken up Jiu Jitsu after being banded 12 months ago (and losing 90+ pounds). It involves throws and being thrown. Has anybody had any experience with band issues when pursuing this kind of exercise? It is an awesome workout! Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm curious to see if anyone who has Lap Band does any type of martial arts. If so I have some questions! What's your martial arts? Did you train before you had surgery? How long did you wait until you went back? Did you feel any different? I've been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about a year now but can no longer for another two months because I can not do any adomonal workouts and a lot of the time in BJJ your adomonals are crunched together. So, I started MMA today actually. My doctor said I could go back to working out in three weeks... so I did! Everything went basically well. Just this one point of streching my port area felt weird …

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I found it by googling actitrainer. In 2008, there seemed to be a lot of talk about the actitrainer that has since disappeared. I'm wondering if anyone still uses it or not, and the reasons why. To give you some background, I first owned a bodybugg, only to quickly realized I did not like it's large size or dependence on a web-based subscription service. Plus, the website was HORRIBLE!! So, I bought a fitbit. I place the order Jan 7, 2010, received it mid-April. Since April, the first fitbit sent to me had battery issues, so I recieved a replacement. The 2nd fitbit just stopped working without explanation. I liked the fitbit because it…

I've been exercising -- as in cardio exercise, walking -- since day 2, at the doctor's recommendation, so obviously that's not off limits. From what I can tell, it's only resistance training (weight lifting, machines, etc.) that's off limits. My post-op pamphelet says to avoid lifting more than 15 lbs for two weeks post-op. I've also heard four weeks, and six weeks. I know the surgeon is the final arbiter, and I'm going to see and ask him on Thursday, but in the interim I'm curious: when did you guys start working out (for reals, not just walking) after your surgery?

Today was a little yucky and rainy and so I had to skip my usual hour walk (which I do albeit begrudgingly). So I decided to go try Zumba, since so many of you had sang its praises- or danced its praises! Ladies..... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! What a fun workout. So much fun. And it still kicked my tooshie, but OH MY- it was so much fun. And the best thing was on my way out, my old trainer told me it is like 500 calories burned an hour. I will assume since I took it 'easier', more like 300- but I will take that for a fun workout. If now they offered it more than once a week. Another thing that really clicked for me is that I need to find more workouts that I e…

I'm starting my 4th week post-op. I have never been an "exercise person" unless you count Water aerobics, which I love, but aren't available where I live. I hated exercise. I found it boring, pointless, time consuming. I don't see myself ever running a marathon, and I'm not at home in the gym, at least not yet. After 2 days with the magical intervention of exercise DVDs, I have totally changed. Being able to exercise at home makes all the difference. This is something that I can work into my daily routine easily. For me, right now it's 1/2 hour after Breakfast and before shower. I'm sure I'll work my way up to more. I know that people do scary amounts of exercise and I'…

Has anyone checked this site out. My MIL sees a nutritionist who told her about this site. After joining the site, which is free, it lets you map out walking routes, tells you the distance in miles and when you plug in how long it takes you to complete, it tells you the calories burned. Very cool and an awesome tool!! http://runstoppable.com I posted this in 2 different forums because I thought it was very useful...

I have been doing Water aerobics 2-3 times a week. And, I was looking for something to do on the days that I don't go to the gym for that glass. Well, Today I was browsing for something to watch on tv.. and found that there's an EXERCISE channel offered for FREE! I checked a few out, and they look awesome! I'm excited. Hey everyone! I was just wondering what everyone's exercise routine is these days. Do you mix cardio and weight/strength training? How many days a week are you doing it? For long timers, have you seen less loose skin depending on the exercising you're doing? I was sleeved on Dec 21st and I got my gym membership on Dec 31st. I haven't been cleared for weights yet, so I'm strictly doing cardio. I'm up to an hour a day, 4-6 times a week. I went ahead and put a goal in place for the spring (albeit a lofty one!!) and I'm participating in a half marathon (Rock and Roll Marathon of Dallas). I might not be able to finish it, but I'm going to try anyway! Anyone else…

I've been doing the Slim in 6 series, I'm on the last section of it. It says that it burns about 800 calories. However, I'm only eating about 650 a day, and I've noticed the scale slooowly creeping up. Is this probably because the workout is pretty high cardio + weights? I'm not an expert so I'm unsure if it's me not eating enough or if it's me possibly gaining lean muscle. I'm not lifting anything heavy, 5lb weights on each hand but I do see more definition. Any ideas/advice from the exercise geniuses?

So, I'm 16. With me being a teenager, I don't have much free time between advanced classes at school, church, my community, and Band. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for some quick workouts that would, not necessersarily get me in shape, but get me healthy. I don't have much equipment at my house, but I do have a yoga mat, some dumbell weights, a treadmill, and lots of space.

I was sleeved on the 16th, came home on the 19th, so I guess that makes me 5 days postop today. I feel great, but have been just kind of taking it easy - learning to "eat" and get used to my new life. I managed to get a week off of work, and now I am feeling guilty because I am just kind of lounging around. Should I be exercising already? I have thought about going for a short walk during the day, but it has been nearly 100 degrees here every day. Am I being lazy? I would appreciate any hearing any thoughts anyone would like to share on this. Thanks so much Kathy

Hi all... I have a question...When you exercise on a regular basis like 5 times a week, do you find you lose your appetite over all?? Like sometimes when i come in from exercising, I am hungry and eat a little but since I've started exercising regularly my appetite is not as much of an issue anymore...In fact, it's pretty much gone. I have to remind myself to at least get in 600- 800 calories a day, ( per my surgeon ) but she also said, if you're not hungry, don't eat. Is this exercise related or because I have some restriction or both??? I hope this made sense.... Thanks, Meg
