Hello all!, My primary care Dr has suggested that I not lose any weight before surgery as I am right on that 40 BMI weight amount. I still want to start some kind of routine so I can get some good habits in advance. I was thinking of using weights/no cardio-so I can at least build some muscle before I start losing weight. I was going to concentrate on the arms, thighs, glutes and waistline. Has anyone done this? I know that our bodies lose a % of muscle as we lose so I was thinking that this might be a good way to counter this so I don't end up skinny/fat.

I have been working out pretty steady since I was 6 weeks out from surgery. It was my second time taking a class called Total Body Tune up which is modeled after the Insanity program. We did a LOT of jumping in this particular class and I noticed my port site was starting to feel really tender during and after class so I calmed down the jumping - but have any of you ever had this problem? My dr. said that there should be no problems with any exercise, just stop if it hurts. Thoughts? I don't want to mess something up.

Hey everyone, I haven't been on in quite some time with a full time practice, and four small children. However, I have been introduced to a product that is changing the lives of my patients, and think it will benefit many of you as well. It is a wrap, Ultimate Body Applicator, which is a cloth impregnated with 16 herbs and absorbs into your skin, and attacks your fat cells and you excrete them!! Pretty amazing. It reall works, you wear the wrap for a minimum of 45 minutes, and can wrap every 72 hours!!! You can wrap arms, legs, thighs, belly, back, chin and neck!! I am going to post some pics of my patients which have wrapped in my office!! The results are amazing! I ho…

Okay this one really goes out to those veteran sleevers. So, I am 13 months out now. I have lost pretty much all I could safely lose (a lot of people think ive gotten too thin) I'm getting to the point of becoming UNDER weight (which is hilarious frankly...ive never been thin in my life...literally). That's really the problem. I have started training for this 1/2 marathon and the running is making me lose weight to a point that is making me nervous. I am already wearing a SMALL right now...i just dont know what to do. No one really seems to understand--people say stupid stuff like "just eat more"....as though I could even if I wanted to?? I mean dont get me wrong I…

As per fitness usa there are mostly 6 grounds to report for the disappointment. 1. Sarcasm your every day calorie eating: You might have undervalued your every day calories ingestion. You might have overrated the every day calories eating for every day actions. You formulate the error of undervalue the every day calories eating when you not remember to add up the calories as of the munchies. 2. Overlook to sketch for durable weight defeat: You overlook that weight defeat is an incessant attempt. You cannot anticipate dropping weight that you have accumulated for what went before ten years. You cannot sensibly suppose to shack off the pounds everlastingly if …

Just thought I would share this little bit of excitment! I have set myself little mini goals along my weight loss journey, things that will keep me motivated... and swimming is on the list. I am now under 14 stone (194) so my next little goal was to go swimming. Just over two years ago I started taking the kids swimming with my husband; I even bought a new swimming costume ( unfortunately itwas too small for me!!!! but I kept it anyway) ... I went a several times and each time I would start to get little panic attacks! I would get sweats, palpitations, and need the toilet!!! I thought that this reaction completely outweighed the benefit of the exercise and I sto…

My surgeon advised no heavy lifting (> 15 pounds) for 4-6 weeks post-op. I walked post-op and then started doing some light exercising at 3 weeks. I'm now back to working out two times a week. I hate exercise but consider it a necessary evil so I do it. LOL. The good news? As the weight comes off, the workout becomes a bit easier allowing you to step it up a bit more. Now that summer is finally here, I'm looking forward to adding swimming to the routine. I have yet to experience that "endorphin" thing. LOL.

I'm starting my 4th week out of surgery, and have hit the dreaded 3 week stall as I transitioned to soft solid foods. I looked at my calories eater vs. calories burned ratio for the past 2 weeks on fitday.com and saw that I'm burning 20% less calories since starting solid foods. I'm not yet cleared for any exercise but walking, but clearly something had to be done. I don't like walking in the mall, the neighborhood, anywhere. I cant stand walking without a destination. I am so out of shape walking is about all I can do, though. I found a walking DVD and tried it out this morining, and it solves my problem completely. It is a 30 workout by walking that burns calories e…

‘How to Lose 22lbs or 10kgs in 28 Days Without Starving or Training Like an Olympic Athlete!' By Stephen Smith BSc If you seriously want to lose 22lbs or 10 kilograms in 28 days then you must perform all of the principles exactly as recommended. Unlike the recommendations in my book, ‘Look good, feel great!', where you can pick the principles you want to use and ignore the rest and where you can even modify the principles to suit your lifestyle, these principles must be followed exactly as they are outlined. If you want extraordinary results, then you must be willing to put in an extraordinary effort! I realise that some people may be thinking, ‘But it is impo…

Hey everybody. I have started working again and I have put together a list of the different weight lifting exercises I use during the course of my workout. I never do more than 4 exercises from each muscle group but I have included more of them than that so that I don’t get bored with the same workout every time I lift. I figured I would share it with whoever might be interested. I have attached it in the PDF form but if you are interested in the Excel spreadsheet send me a message and I will send it to you. All of the exercises are demonstrated in video form on the website below. I am not affiliated with the site whatsoever but just found it as a good source of informa…

I've been banded for 15 months. Lost 80 pounds but have noticed something strange. Generally my band stays pretty tight and I'm never hungry, nor can I eat more than about 1/2 cup of food without typical band issues. Which works well for me. I exercise off and on but I have noticed one thing, when I exercise, no matter if it's just walking a couple of miles or a vigorous treadmill jog I am ravenous afterwards and I can pretty much eat whatever I want and in large quantities. No typical band issues. I can just eat and eat and eat and the scariest part is... I want to just keep eating, just like the old days. This may explain alot about my past history. I used to exerci…

I work out at Curves 4 times a week and the Fri-Sun I walk about 3.5 miles in about an hour each day. I am ready to start moving a little bit more as the walk is fun (hills and all) but the challenge is gone. I want to run. Something I thought I would never say in a million years. At 280 pounds I never had a hard time strutting myself in a swimsuit and lying out by the pool or beach. For some reason, I feel that I might look ridiculous running at about 195 pounds. I have never felt self conscious about anything when I was heavier. Not that I am over 80 lbs thinner I have a feeling everybody will be peeping out their windows starting at the big girl running. I am su…

I signed up to participate in a half marathon! (Notice I didn't say I was going to run or compete) I am going to run as much as I can and walk the rest. They give us 4 1/2 hours to finish and here is a picture of the finishers medal that they are giving. Its on 10-10-10 the same day my stepson Kyle is running a full marathon in Chicago to qualify for the Boston marathon. I am nervous and excited!

Hi All, My husband and I had a good laugh last night as I went through the BMI listing in one of my information booklets. I had to "break it to him" that he was overweight. Although we laughed at this, we also were concerned. Now I am clearly in the morbidly obese area. I LOOK like I am that obese. I have health like I'm that obese, it is clear I have a high BMI. My husband, however, works out 4-5 days a week, has a slim build and plenty of muscle. People look at him and see a handsome, slim, healthy man. Yet according to the BMI scoring, he needs to lose 40+ lbs. And to be honest, he would look like a skeleton. He is too tall to not turn out lanky. So I w…

I had no idea where to post this, so I try here! am looking into buying a new scale. Mine is over 10 years old and looks a little blah. I don't want to change scales "mid weight loss" and I want to get started with it. I looked at Bed Bath and Beyond but I am not sure what to get. I guess, I am mostly worried about accuracy and I want one that turns on automatically when I step on. I hate having to tap some silly button in the morning when I almost can't tell my name, LOL I liked the One by Taylor, the Biggest Loser model - it had a glass surface so it would be easy to clean. Any suggestions? Thanks Susanne PS: Surgery TOMORROW!!!!!

Just wanted to get a comparison view from others on what your workout routine is. I was banded 12/3/09 and have lost just shy of 100 lbs. so far. I hired a personal trainer that I meet twice per week starting in January 2010. I also workout on 2-3 other days per week. Here's a rundown of what I do for exercise. Thoughts? Trainer: 45 minute session combining cardio, circuit training, weight lifting (running stairs, sprints, power-lifting, metabolic training, toning) followed by 60 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph and a 6.0-7.5 gradient on the treadmill. This is twice per week. On own: -I do zumba 2-3 times per week for 60 minutes. -I do interval training on th…

I honestly have never enjoyed exercise until I discovered aqua aerobics. I do two classes in a row. The first class works on your legs, the second on your arms. It's difficult and I love it! I wait for the days that I get to do Aqua Aerobics rather than walking. I hate walking, but because they only have Aqua Aerobics on 3 times a week at my local pool, I've gotta walk for 4 days a week. Is there anything similar to Aqua Aerobics that won't hurt my back? Prefferbly free?

The hard part is over, I finally got off my butt and started exercising! I had been walking here and there since surgery but not actively forcing myself. Last week, I started forcing myself to commit to at least 3 nights a week. I was surprised that I was able to last a lot longer before getting tired. I was down 70 before getting on the exercise bandwagon and getting that initial weight off is making the movement so much easier! I even made it to 2.5 miles this week and it feels great, the soreness is starting to subside now! The great weather makes the walks around the neighborhood enjoyable. :w00t:

So about a year ago, I signed up with Gold's Gym. Then this summer I realized I was 1) gonna be out of commission with the gym for over a month due to my surgery 2) not really going there as much because it's hard to get to when it's -50, so I was going to do workout DVDs this year. So I went there to cancel; my 1-year contract had already expired, so I didn't expect this to be particularly laborious. First off, they tell me that even though I'm there at that very moment, I have to go get a registered letter ($9 and an hour of my time) stating I want to cancel before I do. Then they say they will charge me for another 30 days before my account is closed. Get the lett…

I have been doing a alright on my own with cardio. I do 30 min of treadmill or ellyptical 5 days a week. But I feel like I need a push. I would like to work with a personal trainer for 30-60 min 3 days a week for at least a month. I dont think this is something I can afford though. I dont belong to a gym because we have a great workout center at my apartment complex. Has anyone had great results from working out with a trainer or should I stick with the cardio untill I get closer to my goal? I still have a lot to lose.

I hit another goal of mine today and completed a 5 mile run today. I only did 3 one minute walk breaks during time and was able to complete it in about 47 mins. On another note-- last week, I did my own 5k using my GPS to measure the time and distance with no walk breaks and got it done in 26:50. Not my yet beating my previous goal during one of my past weight loss journeys--but I am building up speed as the weight drops. All of that said I am struggling to do anything but run now... I really need to mix in more strength training. I seem to eat more when I am running regular and tend to use it as an excuse to not make great choices. The good thing about the sleeve…

I just had surgery yesterday, but thought while i was home recovering I would get ideas on what things work best. I am 26, 5'4, 235lbs. My mom had this surgery 5 years ago and of course had problems with those areas. She had plastic surgery to fix it all. I prefer to NOT have those surgeries! I was kind of hoping with my weight and age that I could work away a lot of the skin problems if I start off at the beginning...It's worth a shot, right? So I ordered a thigh master...but wondering about other ideas....I of course am not using them this soon, but plan to as soon as I am well enough....open to all ideas...Thanks!

I usually hate when people try to post all these different facts that they have researched but I needed to do this to help keep my motivation up for working out as well. If you are feeling stressed exercise is one way to help! I feel so much better since I have been working out. Everyone is different so I can't promise the same results but it's worth the try. I feel like some people on this site tries to give reason why they are so healthy without working out but truth be told they would be better with some good exercise that will get their heart to pumping. Now if you can get a good heart rate up with working in the garden then go for it! My mom loved working in the …

I was banded on on 9/1/10 and now weigh 230 lbs. I just began using Stephanie Huckabee's Powerfit Harmony videos and am very happy with them. They are on clearance sale at QVC. For less than $25 (which INCLUDES shipping) you get TEN DVD with various 20 minute workouts - cardio, upper body, lower body, etc. - PLUS three resistance bands of varying resistance strengths. Also, the instructor (known for her FIRM series workouts back in the day) is available for support on her website and Facebook. I am enjoying these because they offer a variety of exercises and difficulty level which will help me stick with them. Right now, I'm doing them with no resistance and just concentr…

These are also all rated to show which work better and depending if you have access to a gym or not.

Ok. On days that I work out I usually do 40-50 mins of cardio. If the machines are right I am burning about 300-400 calories. Well the issue is both times this week I have been starved, like to the point that I came home and binged. On crap may I add. Like today I had 3 cookies with frosting at the tune of 455 calories. Don't know why just did. And that was after I had two steak tacos. Just need to figure out how to work around this. HELP any ideas of what you do or don't do that works. Do you eat first or right after or what. Do you eat the extra calories that you burned off or still try to eat whatever you usually do. Thanks

Hello all!! Ok, let me begin. I am a workout junkie. I love it. Always have. Always will. Why am I fat? Because I like to eat just as much as I love to workout! Anyway, I'm fixing the eating by revising my defunct band to a sleeve. I'm fixing my workouts by creating this thread. I have migrated here from Lap Band Talk. I don't know if anyone knows who or what that is, but this very website is a spin-off from that website. I've been posting there for oogle years. I would often post my workouts there and it really helped to keep me in line with them. However I have not been posting there much at all since I've found my new home. I really don't have a wh…

Well, I joined a gym and this morning had a session with a personal trainer. I woke up, ate a string cheese (as I don't eat much first thing in the mornings), and took off for the gym. He had me warm up on the treadmill for about 5 minutes, then we moved to the circuit machines (?) i think, where there were 4 machines for the upper body/ arms, and 4 machines for the lower body/ legs. did each machine 4 different times with attempting 10 reps on each. Finished by a good pace on the treadmill for 10 minutes. When I was done I was absolutely famished! I haven't exercised in years, and this was the first time I have done the whole gym experience, doesn't seem too bad other th…

I am 12 days post op, and have been walking, but that's about it. Does anyone go to Curves, is it helpful? What can I do for now? I am worried about my port, even lifting the laundry basket kind of hurts. I live in a rural area, no place to really ride a bike (although I did ask for one for Christmas) even to take a decent walk I have to drive someplace. So whats the opinion out there, Curves, YMCA, or Zumba? I would appreciate all thoughts, home equipment is not an option, right now.
