I'm so upset. I have been walking 3 miles 5-6 days a week and really enjoy it. Well, this past week, my right hip started hurting and now it's to the point where I can hardly lift it up. I'm thinking I have tendonitis in my right hip. I have a doctors appt tomorrow. My surgeon says I cant take any NSAIDS so I am taking Tylenol right now. My surgeon said that I need to rest for a bit or at least decrease the amount I walk and only walk on level surfaces, no hills. It just feels like I have been doing so well and now a set back. Thanks for listening! I'm just really upset!

Hi all! I have a question.... I am preband, and am currently on my 6 month diet plan. I have been doing water aerobics evrday morning and twice a week in the evenings, but am worried if I am doing enough exercise? I have been pretty sedentary for the the past 3 years, and the water aerobics are pretty much the only type of of exercise that I can do successfully right now. I can feel that that I am getting the exercise, because my muscles are telling me, but is it enough to help me lose weight? Is there anyone out there that does only water aerobics, or any other simple exercising routine, and finds that they are losing weight?

Does anyone have any ideas? Here are some artists that really get me going (lol don't laugh I'm only 20 and I'm in college, so my taste is probably really different, but feel free to add anything you find upbeat and easy to work out to): Justin Bieber - my #1 workout music, LOVE LOVE LOVE B.o.B Lady Gaga (sometimes) Miley Cyrus Young Money (sometimes) Nikki Manaj Usher (some upbeat stuff like "OMG" and others) Sean Kingston (sometimes) Jason Derulo definitely "You're a Jerk (remix)" by New Boyz if you guys can give me any suggestions - doesn't matter if it's the same type of music or not - definitely reply to the post!

Hey guys! I was just wondering...sometimes I have to split up my walk..20-30 minutes twice a day instead of 40-60 minutes at one time. I know they say as long as you get so many minutes a day, you're good, but what do you guys think? I work 7a-3:30p and try to walk before work and either on my lunch break or after work. I do notice that if I walk twice a day instead of once, I tend to walk more total minutes a day. Thanks for your time guys! Hope everyone is doing well! Leeanne :bored:

Is my nutritionist keeping me fat? scale is the same. Since banding shirt size from 2x to xl-large, Waist 44-46 now 38) In addition to trainer have working with a nutritionst who has been increasing my calories. She wants me to eat at least 1800 a day. Granted I am eating more and weight is stable but I really want to loose at least another 30 lbs or so. I keep a food journal etc. Since last week the scale has started to move, I droped my calories to around 1300, very well balance, also cut down on artifical sweetners, and also protien drinks etc. She looked over my food journal today and said I really need to eat at leat 1700 to 1800 and be very consistant. Hello there Band fans....I got banded March 28th-2007. I told myself....Bycyling would be a very good choice. Fresh air, muscles working for the sake of "Cardio". After one week passed--in April. I purchased three new bikes for me and my two sons. I have defeated many things doing that. No more not riding with my children--we ride as a crew (family). We could not conquer the hill on my street. We used to stop 3 to 4 times before getting to the top ( I did). So now the wheels have turned. My kids ask me---"Daddy can we stop--our legs are burning". Thank God I am doing well now. Now with 21 pounds gone---but just riding bikes. I am ready for the next Journey...The 1st fil…

Soon after getting my sleeve (about 3 months ago) I read an article about a local triathalon that's focus is to empower women to be the best they can be. The triathalon is called the "Ramblin Rose". As triathalons go it's an easy one- you swim 250 yards, bike 9 miles and then run (or run/walk or walk) 2 miles. The neat thing about this triathalon is you can sign up for a mentor program. People help you train. Even if you have never swam before they will teach you. So three months ago I decided it would be a perfect exercise goal for me in 2010. Well sometimes I can be all talk (I talked about wanting to sky drive back in my 20's and never did that either!!!) But I just pa…

I used to have a boxing set many years ago with a 70lb heavy bag. I used it daily and was able to tone up quite a bit and lose some weight. I bought a wii last year and sometimes do the boxing games on there, but it just isn't the same as hitting an actual heavy bag. I've been looking all over the internet for a set and the cheapest I've found was on walmart.com, but they're out of stock. So my question is, do you box for exercise and where did you get your set from?

So for some reason I recently have become obsessed with High Intensity Interval Training. I use the elliptical and do approximately 7 reps (1 minute high intensity followed by 1.5 minutes low intensity) which equals about 30 minutes total for the routine. Previous to starting this method I would traditionally do 50-60 minutes at a moderate level. So far I am far more exhausted following 25 minutes of HIIT than I was following 60 minutes of moderate activity. I am really hopping this will be what pushes me off my current plateau and allows me to get to the next level. Anybody else using tabata or other HIIT methods?

I've seen the commericals and the ads in magazines for the shoes called Shape-ups by Skechers. The ad states they are designed to help burn more calories, tone muscles, and improve posture.... etc. Sounds to good to be true to me. My question is has any one bought them and do they do what they are suppose to do? In my opinion they are some ugly ass shoes....... but I'm willing to purchase them if they do what they are advertised to do. Holla back. Deb

Well I have been doing some reading and everything I read says that cardio in the morning is best for burning the most fat since it is before you have eaten anything and have fasted with no carbs all night long. My issue is that I have sever Hypothyroidism and mornings are very hard for me. Has anyone else heard that doing cardio in the morning is the best?

I'm six weeks post-op and won't be cleared for weights until 3 months out. At that point I can start with light weights and progress slowly. I am finding this a bit frustrating since I did Cross Fit before the surgery and could dead lift 150 pounds (not bad for an old woman). I'm doing cardio in the meantime, but I find it very borning. What's everyone else doing?

Hello everyone lets now think in a different way. we have discussed about the techniques and Best ways to quit smoking. Now lets think from an another angle, from the angle, with a true and clear mind. Why can’t we change the way we think. Rather than medicines and the support of anyone else it is the determination of our mind that makes us to make a clear decision. When you seriously think of something, whether it is to quit smoking or about anything else, make your mind aware that, you are going to do something for your own well being, through which the society is also going to gain. We can make others aware of the sin, only if our part is clear and precise. S…

Hey everyone! Ok so I fell off the wagon last month... well this month won't be any better. I've moved and still in process, its really difficult right now. I can't let that keep me from doing the right thing tho, so this month I propose to myself to do at least 30 minutes activity per day. I just leave it up to me to choose what it will be. What will you do? Remember to check in and let us all know how you are doing!!

Hello Everyone and Welcome, This thread is for everyone who needs motivation and encouragement to get moving and to help make us accountable to ourselves and one another. The Plan is to draw up a new thread each week, running from Sunday to Saturday. You are awarded "Points" for exercise and everyone works to their own ability. You get 1 Point for every 10 minutes of exercise. You choose whatever activity you wish. Each week you pledge your points on board - making a committment to achieve them, and then you strive all week to achieve your own goal. You keep your own score and at the end of the week you must let us all know just how well you did. Hopefull…

I have just passed my one year since I got the lap band. I am approaching 140 pounds lost and will be doing my first triathlon soon, after doing several 5k and 10k runs. When I started, I started walking, then to the gym to work on the machines (needed to be careful because of knee problemms). That progressed to longer ellyptical workouts, and then other machines. I then started very slow (and sometimes painful) jogs. I made sure I stayed long and slow to build up tendons, muscles and ligaments and avoudn knee and foot problems. This has progresses from 3 days a week to 6 days a week (with a coach), and training for a series of triathlons. My recommendation for a…

Right now I have hit a big plateau at 366 -365lbs for the past 3 weeks. At 6'1, most of my weight is in the mid section..ugh!! My job is stationary from 9-6pm. In the afternoons, I am walking one mile plus weight training, three times a week. I know that I am building muscle, but should I cut out the weight training and focus only on cardio?? Also my calorie intake average is around 1700-1800. My protein levels are good (80-90 grams). I am STILL trying to lower my carbohydrate intake to at least 70 grams per day. My doctor also suggested that I should lower my calorie intake to 1300-1400. Do you think it is too low for right now?

Whats crackin folks, just thought I'd chime in on a little program I started you might have heard of it, P90x...just wanted to say that I'm on the verge of starting day 3 today and I have to say I'm hooked. I've never allowed my weight problem stop me from staying active so I gotta say I have a bit of an advantage heading into the program there. For any of you who are afraid of trying it I'm here to tell you dont be afraid to try it if you're physically able to. I'm about 9 weeks post-op 18lbs down and with this program I can already feel I'm heading in the right direction. Now granted I'm not going at it full force (the doc said to not over do it to allow the sutures to …

I'm cleared to go back and hit the gym, and I'm so happy and excited. One nice thing about my genome is that I build muscle like CRAZY (despite being fairly low-testosterone... I shudder to think what I'd be built like if I had normal T levels for a male my age!). It only takes me a couple of weeks to lay on heavy slabs of muscle. Now that I'm losing fat (and I'm also keeping my Protein very high, watching my carbs a little, and tweaking all of the known bodybuilding micronutrients like arginine, carnitine, chromium, and so on), it should be a rocket sled! I have my age working against me, but everything else is in my favor. Right now, I'm DEPRESSINGLY weak and fl…

Okay, so I have not made a secret about the fact that I have struggled since surgery to make exercise a part of my life. I can make lots of excuses, but the truth is I wasn't motivated/ready to go there yet. Well, even if I'm not ready my heart and body and mental health need it, not to mention it really would be nice to get some muscle tone going. So today, I did toning with resistance bands and weights on my arms and then did half of the taebo AMPED workout. Now half may seem wimpy but I feel empowered and inspired and tommorow I think I will brave the Hip Hop Abs. My oh my!!!! This feels so good. Thanks all for the inspiration. I often think about Macmadame and how i…

I don't run like Forrest Gump; can't ride a bike like Lance Armstrong; and have no desire to swim like Michael Phelps! I've read threads on here from people running marathons, and doing triathalons, and just being super athletes, but it's kind of intimidating to me! Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that these people are so passionate about their sport. So, I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who work out to be healthier, but don't necessarily want to be the next fitness rock star! Feel free to jump in with comments. I work out 3-5 days a week for about an hour each time. I try to make it 5 days, but sometimes life gets in the way. It would be great to ke…

Can anyone recommend a good fitness club in SoCal? After analyzing our budget we have determined that I can join one. I do have Fibromyalgia and need knee replacement surgery so I'll need one with a pool. I looked into the YMCA and it's $45.00 a month with no contract. They have 3 pools and all the equipment but I'm not sure I'd get the proper training. Please feel free to recommend or comment on any clubs you've belonged to. Some may be nationwide. Thanks in advance for the input.

I was banded on 5/19, so I'm obviously not ready for major toning exercises, especially anything using the core muscles. I have been walking, and I'm able to do that without discomfort at a decent pace, and longer each day. But I am losing pretty fast right now, and I really want to know when I can do something that builds muscle a little bit. I guess I have this fear of getting that "deflated" look. Probably more than a little irrational, I know. They generally say 5-6 weeks for strength training, right? But what if I'm 3 weeks post-op, my incisions are healed completely, and I don't feel any pain? Can I, say, do some squats or arm curls, or anything like that? Does it…

I am ready for summer. Every year I am miserable when I go on vacation with my family. Cute summer clothes did not fit and all I wanted to do was stay in the condo. Talking about spoiling the fun for everyone. My husband and daughters enjoyed so many actvities without me. This year will be different. Losing weight has lifted my self esteem. I am ready to enjoy all that life has to offer. I am challenging myself to lose 10 more pounds before the end of June. I slacked on my exercise and still managed to lose 18 pounds in 2 months. Now I am highly motivated and will not use the excuse of being too tired to skip my workouts. Come join me. My goal is 40 miles for May…

I gotta say, I'm starting to really enjoy exercise. Now that I'm 30 lbs. lighter than I've been in a long, long time, I'm really enjoying my "fitness" walks, and I find that my pace is MUCH faster if I even want to work up a sweat. The miles just fly by! Today I did a walk up beautiful Elliott Ave. onto Alaskan Way, with the gorgeous Elliott Bay to my right, and all of Seattle's interesting, colorful people out with me! I got to walk past the Seattle aquarium up to the cruise terminal, before I had to loop back. There's a flight of stairs at the Olympic Sculpture Park -- actually 3 flights of stairs, probably close to 100 steps. I was actually able to RUN up thos…

I read that I am supposed to be getting 1/2 hr exercise a day starting asap (day 1 or 2). Is this for real? I want to curl up and die - not exercise! The most exercise I am getting is when I waddle for dear life to the bathroom! Which leads into my other question - is this wretched diarrhea (clear to tan w/ extreme mucous) normal? Lastly, how does anyone get 50 gms Protein a day? I don't mind sipping Water & broth but the milky based Protein drinks spoil before I get more than a little bit. Thanks!

Hello everyone- i just had surgery on the 17th (last Monday) and prior to that i had been exercising vigorously for 2-3 hours a day (on the elliptical machine). Since surgery i have no exercised simply because i didn't have the energy and had a hard time getting in enough fluids and calories. I am now able to get in 1200 calories a day through several yougurts, fudgecicles, light juice, tomato juice, gummy Vitamins (which i eat like candy!! lol) and several Protein shakes. It seems that if the food is cold and soft or liquid that i can take in quite a bit now. I only wanted to lose about 30 lbs, and i've lost about 8 since surgery, but don't want to lose the muscle mass t…
