I've been feeling a little sad this week and one way I know to lift my spirits is to set goals. I came up with a professional/career goal (well reaffirmed). I had already sort of set a weight loss goal (lose 100 lbs), but that will depend how I feel once I get further out. A clothing goal to get into a size 8 (the smallest I remember being was a 12 my sophomore year in high school, then pretty much a 14-16-18). Now I've been trying to come up with a fitness goal. I think this morning I came up with a perfect one for me. I'm going to try to become a Jazzercise instructor. I spoke to my instructor after class this morning and I really think it's a good fit for me.…

OK ... Walking. I know its a good thing. I know it helps. My question is this : Does it really make a difference?? I mean, can you really lose weight just from walking? Doesn't it depend on how FAST you go ? And how FAR you go ?? I have crappy knees, and exercise just isn't in my vocab. But some days I could handle walking. Just not for an hour at a time walking so fast i can hear the wind in my ears!! :cursing: Any thoughts to share??? Thanks :-)

my question is for the best way to go about working/building my arm muscles. i like the size of my arms for the most part, but i NEED more tone. i have some saggy skin and am wondering, if i build muscle (heavier weight, low rep, right?) will it help fill that sag? but i also want it to be nice and toned, so low weight, high rep right? any hints/suggestions would be great.

I joined a local ATA (karate) school about a month ago - it is GREAT - they have 45 minute work-outs several times a week - and then a FITNESS class on Saturday mornings....they push you hard - but understand that everyone has limits. Do a Google search for ATA + your town and see what comes up.... I have lost 1 dress size in a month -- hoping to lose another size by Christmas...........

Hey all! I ventured into my local gym today for the first time in forever and I feel great! BUT I need to know if there are any exercises that might help with saggy breasts. Mine are wondering what hit them (it's going to be the floor soon). Are there any exercises out there that can help with this?

hello everyone! It has been a while since I have been on here, but I need to get my self back in gear. I have 30 pounds left to go and am soooo stuck in a rut. Anyway...I plan on purchasing an elliptical trainer and have pretty much decided I like the Smooth brand models the best. I am looking at the the CE 7.4 or the DMT X1. But the lower end model may be just as good. Does anyone have a Smooth brand elliptical? What is your level of satisfaction with the product?? Are you satisfied with the level of service? Any problems? I really would like to see one and try one, but they sell directly from the manufacturer online only. any input would be appreciated!

I didn't go all the way through this thread so I don't know if someone already posted this. If so, I apologize and please excuse the repetition. I recently came across a website that has free workouts, both mini workouts and full length ones from 10 minutes up to 45 or in some cases longer . It's ExerciseTV You can download the workouts but that costs money. If you just stream through your computer it's free and they have a lot of categories - dance, Yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, sculpting, cardio, etc. I don't know about you all, but boredom really affects my exercise routine. I lose motivation when I get bored. With this website ,there are so many different work…

After losing my 3rd generation Nano (*sadface*), my Boy bought a 5th gen for me to use at the gym (*happyface*). I have a dilemma, however. I know that I can use the iPod without an armband, but I think it would really make my life easier if I had one. My upper arms are really fat, though, and I'm concerned that I'll purchase one only to discover that it doesn't fit. Does anyone have experience with 5th generation iPod Nano armbands? Will any fit around my unfortunately huge upper arms? I would also like for it to work with the Nike+ sensor. I was also wondering how those who use it calibrated their Nike+ system. Treadmill? Elliptical? On the sidewalk? Than…

The Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB, LapBand®, Realize® Band) is a wonderfully simply surgical device for weight loss. Safe and effective, this procedure can allow people to lose large amounts of weight by simply restricting food intake. Because there is no removal of any portion of the stomach and no bypassing of any of the intestines, the risk for nutritional deficiency after AGB placement is often downplayed or ignored. But research going back many years shows that there is real risk for nutritional deficiencies with the band. This article will give an overview of why there is risk and what nutrients you need to be concerned about. Pre-operative Deficiency It is muc…

I need some advice about gym work outs. I want to lose 40 pounds in 250 days. (My youngest daughter is getting married June 2010 and I want to look nice in the pictures!) I am currently a beginning runner using the couch to 5k running program. I do that M-W-F. I want to work out more than just the three days per week but I am not sure what I should be focusing on...weight machines? bike? swimming? My gym has every type of machine and class you can think of! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just wondering how soon you got back to exercising after surgery? I'm in physical therapy for a knee injury (scope surgery 5 mo. ago for that) I currently ride stationary bike 20 minutes, leg extension machine 15 min, and a leg press machine 15 min. VERY little weight and resistance still. It's a workers comp. injury & if I'm not in pt they're threating to not send my "paycheck". My dr said nothing for 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise person at his office said I can do same as what I'm currently doing starting a few days after surgery. I will ask him again when I see him but in the meantime was wondering about anyone else who's already had surgery.

Power plate is a fantastic machine ; 10 min exercise is claimed to equal one hour in the gym. It does not require active movements, can be practiced even when fatigued. It can move and vibrate many muscles in the body including back and tummy muscles. It is claimed to be anti-osteoporosis and increase the venous circulation as well. Do not jumb on the machine after food or drink

Hello everyone! I had surgery 1-9-09 and have lost 70 lbs. Now I am at a standstill. I have recently started doing the biggest loser workout, but am curious as to what is the best thing to do to get the weight coming off again and toning. I have had 2 c-sections and have the saggy pouch at my incision is there any way to tighten this up? I was wondering since the muscle had been cut if it was now impossible to tighten that up. Also, my back fat....what in the world can I do for that? It isnt extremly bad, but it does drive me nuts. Just wanted to say that I am so happy I made the decision to have this done. I started out at 230 and in a size 24 pants …

Ok, I know I'm kind of a minority (so it seems from my reading) in that I've been an athlete in the not so distant past--- AND I want to get back into sports. I want to know if there are any serious weightlifters around here--- and if so, what have you done to maintain your strength while losing weight? Currently I can squat in excess of 500lbs (rack, not leg press) and have solid upper body strength as well (though I haven't lifted seriously in a good 6 or 7 years) I made a major purchase. Protein before and after workouts-- I just really don't want to work my ass off and watch myself get weaker while I do it. I've considered using clen, or even supplementing …

I started taking Pilates twice week in July, and am not taking classes 3 days a week now. I LOVE Pilates! Every now and then I get slight port pain, but my surgeons asst. says that is normal, and pilates is one of the best exercise programs I can do. I can't believe that I actually look forward to the classes! I've decided to buy a couple videos so I can do it 5 days a week in a couple months.

I know one of the hardest things for me is staying motivated to exercise. I came up with this plan to help me see how far I've come and to motivate me to stick with it. I purchased a large map of the US and mapped out a journey through all 48 states along with Mexico and Canada. I track the distance that I walk/run/bike each week and then transfer that to my "virtual journey" across the USA. I started walking on January of this year, but didn't get really serious about it until April when I made the decision to have LBS. I began in Delaware and have traveled through seven states; as of 9/29/09 I am officially in Hattiesburg, MS and have logged in over 1065 miles. My…

Well-Known Health Tips That No Longer Apply Posted by: eggs In recent decades eggs have been demonized as being loaded with fat and cholesterol to such an extent that doctors were recommending that adults limit consumption to a few per week or else eat those tasteless egg substitutes. But the cholesterol in eggs doesn't seem to have much effect on blood cholesterol levels. And eggs are high in many essential Vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. Aspirin Therapy A daily, low dose of aspirin can help prevent heart attacks for people with coronary heart disease. But it?s a bad idea to be on aspirin when a vessel in your stomach or brain starts to bleed. The latter i…

I went in today for a range of tests at FitnessWave I took all three (Hydrostatic Body Fat, Resting Metabolic, and VO2 Sub-Max) tests, but I have to say the Hydrostatic Body Fat (dunk test) was the coolest (and cheapest). I don’t know if you’ve seen this done. Basically, you lie on an underwater scale and expel your lungs of air. By doing this they can tell exactly how much of your weight is fat versus everything else (fat versus lean). I found out that while I have a BMI of 27.3, my actual Body Fat percentage is 22.3% which puts me in the “average” range for men my age. “Good” would be 14-17%, and “excellent” would be <13%. I set my goal at 15%, which for me mea…

So I havent had my surgery yet but I will in about a month. I've been really concerned about losing my muscle while I lose weight. Obviously we all want to lose just fat and not any muscle but almost always we lose both when we drop weight. So I've been reading ALOT for many, many months on this very subject. I have found some very interesting articles about the benefit of starting out as a heavy girl in relation to awesome muscle tone later. As woman its VERY difficult for us to build muscle. We simply dont have the testosterone to bulk up. So those super toned actresses you see on TV had to do some MAJOR lifting for hours and hours with expensive trainers and eat som…

I know some start early, but I don't know if I should be going now. All of the stitches and glue are gone from my incisions and I am about a month into being banded. My first fill is Friday. Should I maybe try the gym now? I live on an air force base, so it's free. My friend does these Zoomba dancing classes and they look like they work the core...I just don't wanna hurt myself. I sometimes feel sore from bending too much.
