Good abdominal exercises???

Hello, I am 5 weeks post op and for the past 3 weeks I have been going to the gym. The past 2 weeks it has been 5 days a week for about 35 to 40 minutes each day. I haven't started any abdominal exercises yet as I am not sure when I should start that and what is the best kind to do???? Also anyone have any good exercises for under the arms??

I wasn't allowed to do ab workouts until 6 weeks out. You should check with your medical team for their advisement. As far as arms, I do tricep dips. You can youtube or google it for videos on how to do them. They're pretty easy to do.

Planks are excellent cause they work the entire core - front, back, chest, and hips/legs. Any kind of core work is a fantastic idea. There are a ton of options. I also really like the mountain climber (if you do look it up - I do a slower, more controlled version, keeping my body in a straight line - don't lift the hips up and curve the back or you negate most core work). If you do decide to go with sit-ups, studies have shown that quicker reps work your abs harder than a slow, controlled movement. :frown:

To add...about the underarms. Two very good workouts are either the close-grip bench press or push-ups with the hands closer together. Two options, there - so whether or not you have access to a weight room, you can go either direction.

Try searching youtube for kettle bell workouts. This is a great addition to the workout and will work on the core.
