Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Ok, I tried this once before and got way to eager. I started moving quicker than designed. This time I will follow the guidelines.

If you are not familiar with a Couch to 5K, it is a plan to go from not running at all to running 5k (3.2 miles) in only 2 months. It is very doable and such a great feeling of accomplishment. I ran/walked a 5k in May and it was one of the most rewarding things I have done in many years.

Here is the link to the info.. If anyone is interested in training together just join in.

Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan

We will start on Monday, June 29.

Let's get ready to MOVE!!!!!!:tt2:

want2lose,

Thanks so much for you post. You have totally inspired me! I was wondering if someone my size could actually start running. I am so excited of what my life is coming to be. I haven't looked forward to life like this in years!

I want to let you know i went through the Couch to 5k in october 07. FANTASTIC i was about 350 when i statred. I can now run a 5k in 28mins, i run triathlons, Duathlons, i can run a 10k. And it ALL started here. Excellant program!! Oh and i lost 170lbs in 10 months

I DID IT!

I did day one of couch to 5k without dying!!! I barely made it through last segment of running..but I did it! My heart was beating out of my chest. Now my legs are so sore...but I feel awesome that I did it!

What type of exercises are you doing on your days off of training. Im going to do swimming and biking. I still need to start adding strength training. I get so bored doing that though.

I used the podrunner cd and it helped alot, but we have these cool treadmills at the gym that you can set the touch screen to different speeds that with a touch of a button I can walk at 3.0 and jog at 5.0 (sheesh..they call that jogging?? I felt like my legs were gonna fly off my body at that pace!)

Im curious to know how today went for everyone else!

WAY TO GO BONNIE!!!!!!! Haven't done mine yet. I will be running at nap time. Usually around 12:30. Have I ever mentioned that I have 5 kids (4 are 4 and under). Talk about running. LOL. We are foster parents. We have 2 sons who are 19 months and 9 years old. We have 3 foster kids... a girl who is 4 and boys 8 months and 2 years old. We are fixing to adopt the 8 month old. Love my kids.....

Anyway, I will be running when they are down for nap!!

Couch to 5K is a great program! My friend and I did it several years ago through a running club here in town. Unfortunately because of my weight, my knees were killing me! Hopefully when I get the weight down I can try again!

Hope! How DO you do it??? I bow in your presence! My TWO kids (12&6) keep me busy! Altho I must admit, its getting easier..until those teenage years hit...haha!

Good luck with training today!

Bonnie, you are funny. Our 19 month old we adopted. So....we wetnfrom 1 kid to 5 in 1 1/2 years. I must say it was very hard in the beginning, but we have adjusted and the only way I keep my sanity is by keeping routines. Nap time, bed time, etc. DH and I have date night every THursday so we can have some time alone. That is very nice to. They are a handful, but very rewarding.

Bonnie thanks!!! Yes please check out my thread sometime. I just signed up for a 5k on july 4th, i am really hoping to get in the 28min area on it.

HOPE!!! My hats off to you!!!! I have an 8yr a 6yr old daughters and 2 step daughter 19 and 17. YOUR AMAZING!!! To handle all this lil ones!!

Thanks whosya! Of our 5 only 1 is a girl. I must say, girls seem much harder than boys. I always thought the opposite would be true, but nope. Seems to be reverse.

I just finished day one. The podrunner really helped. Love the music. Man it feels good to be moving!!

LOL!! I am the middle of 3 girls. My dad always said that he always wanted a boy, then suddeny he had more boys than he ever wanted! LOL... Then my sisters and I were all pregnant at the same time and all had boys. Life is so funny

I did it and I am dying! lol. I have NEVER ran - ever. I downloaded the first podcast and about died when he says, you should be able to run this without getting winded - you should be able to talk while you run! Are you kidding me? Am I the only person who was totally out of breath?

My hips hurt - on the outside of the leg - is that normal? I figured my calves and thighs would hurt, but the outside of my hips? Weird. And my lungs - I felt like I have Bronchitis (I had Childhood Asthma, I kept thinking, I feel an attack coming on . . . nope!)

During the run, I kept thinking, screw this, I can't do this. But I wanted to see if I could. When I finished, I thought I wouldn't do it again - you guys are crazy. Now, an hour later, I am thinking how soon Wednesday will get here.

I hope I can keep it up.
