i love zumba and do that at least 3-4 times a week so my cardio is being taken care of. i know i need to start doing some weightlifting even though i'm not really a fan of it. i don't really have the money for a personal trainer so i'm looking to do this on my own. does anyone have an easy to follow (for a beginner) weight lifting or muscle toning workout plan for me to follow? or maybe a website, an app or a link i can go to that help me with this.

Yes! It's true!!! I live in Vancouver Canada. Here we have a mountain called Grouse Mountain (part of the 2010 olympics were on this mountain. Anyways, on thismountain is an "attraction" called the Grouse Grind. 3000 stairs over 2.9 km straight up the mountain. I love it!! It's addicting to try and beat my own time. The avg seasoned hiker can do it in 1:30-2:00. A vacationer is generally 2-2:30. Last year my best time was 1:24. My first time last week was 1:21 (yay). On Tuesday I'm going with some first timers so the pace will be slow. But I really wanted to beat my time!!! My work life has sucked recently. I took on managent at an existing bakery and it's been really bad…

I am researching treadmills and elliptical for home use. I would really prefer a treadmill, but my husband loves the elliptical. My biggest concern is a home machine that is strong enough to support our weight (260/270) and the constant use. What have you purchased and what are the good/bad qualities? I don't care about bells and whistles....I want quality.

Okay most of the things I'm seeing are about running, weights, zumba, insanity, etc. blah blah blah. I like things that are not so... (for lack of a better term) normal. Is there anyone out there that does bellydance, hooping, fire-hooping, dancing, or Water things (swimming, polo, volleyball, aerobics, etc.)?

Does anyone have any new advice or experience with Martial Arts training with a LapBand? My wife is suggesting that we get into Martial Arts as a family exercise option. (Once I’m all healed up.) She was a Black Belt in Taekwondo back in high school & I did some Ninjutsu training in HS as well. I’m concerned about the possibility of damaging the port from a well placed powerful punch/kick/elbow/knee crushing/cracking the plastic or tearing the sewn in port stitches. Thanks, Matt

I am 3 weeks post op and I haven't started working out yet because these dizzy spells are killing me! I know I'm not getting enough calories in yet to get in a treadmill without passing out.. And I was looking forward to getting into a routine. I switched my Protein drink to Isopure to try and get more protein in, but I haven't felt the effects yet. I work full time as a nurse and when I'm busy running around I sometimes have to stop and sit down for a minute... I don't know if anyone else experienced this.. I guess I'm just frustrated... I told my surgeon and he said to make sure I eat more often because my sugar might be dropping (I am not a diabetic).. And I try to …

Please don't laugh because I"m being serious. My daughter got the Playstation with the games you have to get up and move to play. I didn't play because I was self-conscious about the obvious. However, I am seriously considering getting this set-up for myself. I could play at night (I work 2 jobs), It would be alitle more interesting than a treadmill, etc. Might get me enough in shape over the winter (I hate winter) so that come spring I will feel better coming out of my hibernation. I was surprised at how sore and exhausted my daughter and her boyfriend (both in military) were at the end and my husband who has a highly physical job was also whipped. Has anybod…

Any one out there willling to spend a couple days with me in the gym??? I really need to get started with toning but not sure of appropriate form, warm up then weight lift, cardio then weight lift, weight lift then cardio lol. I've heard so much. Would just like some one to help me get started so I can develop a routine. I want to focus on my arms legs and butt. I'm willing to meet any where in the greater Sacramento area. I would prefer at a 24 hour fitness but I would meet someplace else if necessary. Thank you

I've been weight/resistance training 3 times a week and taking step once a week. This Tuesday, I thought I'd take a new resistance class just to change up my routine. I can handle it right? I've been working out like a fiend so it should be ok. So after several minutes of squats, lunges, knees, kicks and more squats, I was really starting to feel it in my hamstrings and glutes. Then I bent over to put a weight in front of my board so it wouldn't slide and there went my hamstrings. Both of them. I couldn't do another lunge and I could barely walk out of the class. It's actually kinda funny looking back on it. Here I was thinking I was all that and this class put me in my…

How often is everyone exercising? I've gotten conflicted information between my WLS team. My psychologist said that doing something active every day is best. My dietician said 4-5 days a week. So, I went with what I could work with, and that's 7 days a week no matter what. I don't take a day off from exercise, but I do change up my routine. I flip between a 4 mile outside jog, hitting the elliptical, treadmill, and yoga ball, or the Xbox Kinect routines. Some part of my body is always sore depending on what I've been doing the day prior. I've always been an "all-or-nothing" girl though, and feel like if I skip a day it will be easier to talk myself out of working…

I'm a couple of weeks out but was wondering when do you typically start getting to do other types of exercise besides just walking? I know I need to refer to my physician but would like an idea when things such as biking, swimming, dancing, etc can start being worked in.

Okay, I just got the lapband may 23 and I am trying to excersize and stretch more but ever since I was a kid and I bend over or try to touch my toes or even lean forward my sternum tightens up so bad. I have to raise my hands above my head and stretch upward as high as I can just to get it to stop. I dont think its weight related because even when I was thin it happend. Is their anything I can do to pervent this and does this happen to others? Im not sure if theirs somthing I can do the strengthen the area or what. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hello, I am 45, I am over 350lbs. , restarting my Lapband journey next week. My question: I have a comorbitity of osteoarthritis, it got bad enough that I had two total knee replacements. One a year ago, one 4 months ago. I have exercises that I do to keep the knee's moving smoothly, but am having a hard time at that. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week and ride a recumbant bicycle for a 1/2 hour. Adding five minutes each week, slowly. The other exercise I tried to do was the eliptical. I last about three to five minutes on that. It KILLS my thighs to the point where I can't walk when walking is still hard for me. My surgeon does not want me to use a treadmill. And these…

I have to brag a little bit here.... I am six weeks post op and work two jobs. My part time job is commissioner at a boy scout camp. I am a jack of all trades master at none: conducting trainings, maintenance, business management, etc.... A few of the directors knew I had the gastric bypass RNY, the staff does not know and continued to hassle me when I told them I wanted to do the mile swim. I had no conditioning or prior training so with it being the fourth of July and having off from my full time job I proceeded to do the mile swim. I COMPLETED the swim in HALF HOUR and could have done two miles!! It was the most athletic thing I've done my entire life and can't wa…

Hello! I didn't have my surgery yet but I want to be prepared. I know I may not be able to avoid baggy, loose skin but I still want to try my hardest. So if anyone can give me ideas for exercises, videos, machines, etc that have worked for them I'd love to know. I'm worried about my tummy, thighs and arms. Probably arms the most cause I want to wear tank tops then thighs so I can wear a swimsuit. Thanks.

We got a above ground pool and had them dig a hole so the pool could go under 2 feet. Well they didn't put the sand back because my hubby says he was going to do it. Soo I thought to be helpful I would go and start refilling the space a long the side of the pool! Why did I do that ..... I started seeing stars- felt like I was going to faint after 30 min in the sun doing it and my arms feel like jello! Talk about being out of shape!!!! Wonder how many calories I burned?

You know, working out when you weigh 332 is HARD. Granted, it's probably not easy for any size, but I'm sure hoping things get easier when my weight finds another home. Right now, it's almost all I can do to walk for 30 min on the treadmill without saying to myself, "Nope, I'm done for the day." Part of me thinks that I'm setting my expectations too high. Thoughts?

Hey all, I just wanted to share, I finally got the nerve to try out the Kinect (it's my husbands set-up...I don't touch the thing ) and put on the UFC Trainer. I've always been interested in MMA and know that boxing is a huge calorie burner. I have to tell you all, I'm SO in love with this "game". And I say "game" because while you do keep score and earn points, it works you OVER. I'm sore from head to toe and I'm only on my second day doing it. There are workout sessions as well as little side pieces you can do, like hitting the heavy bag or speed bag. I'm not a gym girl....organized exercise kind of freaks me out...but I think before long I'll be an Octagon …

I got my FitBit yesterday from Amazon, and oh my goodness I love this thing!! I think it was just the spark I needed to kick my exercise into high gear. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's this super high-tech pedometer, but it also keeps track of calories burned. You can use the website or the mobile app to track calories in. It also tracks your sleep; in the morning, I just enter what time I went to bed then what time I wake up and it shows me a graph of the quality sleep I got, how long it took me to fall asleep, and how many times I woke up during the night. I'm not sure *how* it tracks this stuff (kind of feel like "big brother" is watching!!) but …

I'm three weeks post op and feel great. Still a little sore, but getting better every day. Three days after surgery I was reading over my lapband books again and saw where it stated that "upon discharge from the hospital, you may have the following foods....", and there was 2 1/2 pages of foods listed. So needless to say, I started foods. I've never ate much since surgery at one time, and never more than 3 meals a day. The most I have eaten at one time maybe a cup. But I'm worried that I may have stretched my pouch. Even though I only get hungry after several hours of nothing to eat, and I chew everything very well, and eat very slow. Can I request my doctor to check my s…

I started fitness bootcamp and not sure if I need to continue my walking since I am getting my cardio and weights in at the same time. I am 6months out and feel like my body is used to the walking I have been doing that for years. Lol So, I started bootcamp to shake things up a bit. When is the exercise your doing considered enough? When is it not? I don't want a lazy workout, I want to be doing something I can get results and be proud of doing. I hope that makes sense.

I bought this new contraption a few weeks ago that I've talked about on a few threads because I'm so excited about it. It measures how many calories I'm burning all the time. So my trainer and I made a daily goal of a 1,500 calorie defecit (that's a 3 pound loss/week). My daily caloric expenditure goal is 2,800, which is difficult for me to achieve without really incorporating a lot of activity into my day. Well this week I decided to bump up my expenditure to 3,000 and decrease my intake by 200 extra calories so that I could eat at my dad's 50th birthday party. Turns out he had pretty healthy food there anyway, and had LOTS of dancing, so I ended up burning a full pound …
