I have just signed up to play basketball starting in 1.5 weeks, by that time I will be 9 weeks post op. I thought it would be fine. My surgeon was encouraging me to start going to the gym and lifting weights at about 5 weeks out. I have started running and going for walks and will be going to the gym starting this week. However, a friend of mine that has had the surgery almost 1.5 years ago said there is no way I should be playing basketball until at least 6 months out to give it sometime for my internal stitches etc to heal properly and I shouldn't risk it incase I hurt myself or trip and fall. Same this with lifting weights, and that I should wait at least 6 months. Is this true or is he over exaggerating? Should I continue and play basketball and do weights in gym? I feel great and I do feel "ready". Any suggestions please?
