I had Gastric Bypass in December of 2013. My starting weight was 375 lbs. I am now 170 lbs. I stalled about 2 years ago and could not get under 200. I can't seem to stop losing weight now and I am almost 6 years out. I will be honest and say that I do not watch what I eat. I do not follow any of the 'rules' that were laid out. I do avoid things that make me feel terrible - I can't drink milk and certain things with too much sugar make me feel sick so I don't even want them. I can only eat small amounts at a time still. I was just wondering if anyone else who is this far out deals with the same things. It almost freaks me out a little as if something is wrong with me. Mayb…

Hi everyone! I am scheduled to have the RNY on 7/2 woooohooooo! Problem (but not so problem): I am getting married on October 18th! I have no idea how I should plan to buy my wedding dress. I am currently a bridal size 18 or 20 depending on fit. Any one have any kind of experience with this. I know they say to buy a corset dress, but literally have not found one I like. I am considering more of a rustic/romantic style lace dress. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!!

I just my had surgery a few days ago and while I was at the hospital my mom and friend came to visit (both of them wear hijab). They went home and I took a nap and when I woke up my nurse was standing by my bed putting syringes into my iv and she asked me if the people that visited me were related to me and I told her they're my mom and friend. She started telling me how much she hated the islamic hijab and what it stands for and how she liked other religions veils but not the islamic one. Later, she became incredibly rude and aggressive with me. She was trying to show me how to give myself the blood thinner injection that i'm supposed to take when I go home. She put it i…

Yesterday was a beautiful Sabbath day, which also marked 2 of my goals! I was able to jog 5 full laps around the track without stopping, and entered the wonderful land of Onederland!!! I kept stepping on & off the scale to make sure the numbers were accurate! I became so elated that I began crying while doing so...I haven’t been below 200 in probably 24 years! When I came out of my room, I started to tell my children, and began crying again...it’s surreal, but, wow, what a feeling!!!

I think spreading hope to the Newbies and the poor surgery siblings who have complications to over come, share your stories of emotional growth with your surgery. I had a pity party that lasted a while due to insecurity whether I was doing everything right and unrealistic expectations of how I should look 4 months along. I got over myself with the support of all of you and for that I thank you .. the message I want to pass on is if you knew me and knew how ingrained my bad habits were you’d see how far I have come even through the self doubt and the need for perfection that was so unrealistic... I may not look exactly as I hoped looking in the mirror but I feel so energi…

Even now Im sitting on my couch and my stomach part is gurgling a bit. Have any of you experienced the same thing? Is it even possible? //feeling like im halfway to being a (cute) cow!

Hey everyone, I started WLS back in 8/2017 with a Sleeve then RNY conversion in 3/2018 and finally a resection with a vagotomoy this February. I'm starting to worry that i am developing a hernia. I started as mild abdominal pain on my right side and my first though was my appendix but was ruled out by CAT scan and ultrasound. The pain is starting to move around my navel and is not severe and comes and goes. Now I am having problem keeping food and liquid down. I just wondering if thiis could be a hernia or would it have been seen on the imaging tests. Are their another signs that could point to a hernia? Thanks for all the help guys! Josh

What did your medical team put on your forbidden foods list? Have you stuck to it or tried anything you weren't supposed to? What was your body's reaction? Anything you've eaten that should have been okay but your body hates and you've added to your forbidden foods list? -------- For me, the only food I've found that I absolutely cannot eat is bread. Like traditional, regular bread. Crackers, tortillas, chips, pizza base (under the toppings), even croissant... All fine. But any sort of regular bread gets stuck within two bites and is painful and makes me need to vomit. I haven't tried grapes or sausage skins or whole oranges/grapefruits which are all on the list, but oth…

I have hip and knee arthritis and 6 more days until my surgery. I’m in excruciating pain because I can’t take any NSAIDS. Anyone have any suggestions on how to endure the pain for the next few days. I can barely walk to the restroom or get in and out of bed. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

I am only a few months out from surgery. I had dumping form eating too fast and once from flavored medicine that had sugar in it. I have been really strict re no bread, pasta, potatoes etc. The only carbs/sugars I get are from vegetables. so eventually does dumping get better? From what I understand a year form now I could eat a tiny piece of birthday cake or 1 piece of chocolate on a special occasion. At this point I feel like I am always going to be too scared to ever try it. I am too scared to even try a cracker.

Hi all, I am three years out of bypass surgery (2016). March of 2017 I had emergency surgery for an internal hernia and removal of scar tissue that caused a blockage, October 2018, emergency surgery for resection of small intestines and November 2018 another emergency surgery for a complete blockage. Anybody else have these kind of issues. Is it related to the bypass. My surgeon says no, my husband thinks differently. Thanks.

I have no friends in real life. I was so embarrassed about my weight that I shut people out. Now I find myself, hesitantly, seeking out others who might understand me. I'm hoping this is the first step to feeling better about myself and loving myself. To punish myself for being fat, I wear the same green dress every day, everywhere. I call it my FAT UNIFORM. I hope to retire my uniform on the day of my bypass surgery on 13 June 2018. My dietitian has offered to covert it into a blanket for her dog's bed. She insisted that symbolically I needed to discard my uniform because of what it represents/ed.

Whew!!! Time has flown by so fast!!! The 25th of this month makes a full year since WLS. I have had some up and down moments, but never any regrets about having it done. I'm so amazed at the weight I have lost and I am loving the positive way it has improved my health and gave me a new lease on life. Down to a size 4 and some 5's. I'm embracing the physical changes my body has endured through this journey. Best wishes to those who are on this journey...you got this!!! Is it just me or are people being rather aloof to me at work? Is it just me or are people being a tad snippy and not greeting me so wholeheartedly as In the past.. like when my rolly Polly . Jolly ole self came through the door and intimidated no one because I was no one’s competition just the girl at work you’re glad your not as big as?!! It’s weird that I’m being treated differently and it makes me sad because it’s NOT my imagination, my now 67 lb weight loss is ruffling feathers and it’s pissing me off that people I love ,who I’ve supported and encouraged are jealous... I didn’t see this coming . It’s a lonesome feeling ?

Hi all I had By-pass surgery on the 1st of May Last Thursday I started on the soft foods diets, I decided to have flaked fish with some sort of wet stuff called sauce, i found the fish got stuck and ended up in pain for just over an hour. I either did not chew my food enough or the fish was a little dry (the latter would be the culprit i think) I know there is an issue with the opening being smaller of something like that, is that an issue while healing of that is that perminant?

So, weird thing today for me. I've been stalled at roughly 310 lbs for the past few days. However, when I went to put on my belt today, I was able to pull it even tighter than it was before without it being uncomfortable. Now, leather belts can stretch, but it's possible that I've lost inches without losing weight.

Hi, I had RNY three weeks ago. I've lost 15 pounds (not counting weight gain from IV in hospital.) I hear people saying they can only eat a couple of tablespoons. I have never been like that, and I could drink easily immediately after surgery. I can comfortably eat a mashed banana. I keep thinking the surgeon, who is a very good experienced surgeon, made my pouch too large. Am I being crazy? Its driving me nuts.

Hi everyone! I am new here as I mentioned in the subject. I made the decision to seek out Gastric bypass in April. I decided to get it because I have a huge list if medical issues and I'm only 32. I want to see my daughter grow up. I've been dieting and going to the gym and I only have 3 more months before my insurance will approve the surgery. I'm here to learn what I can and any help with the abbreviations used on this site would be appreciated. I'm nervous about surgery but I'm very ready for a real life change.

Hi all, im new to this site but open to suggestions , So my story is , i had a gastric bypass in April 2017, weight loss great, all my medical conditions settled , but i had pain in the insides of the left rib area from quite early on, i couldn't get to the pain by touch, i had the camera and CT scans , i was later informed i had ulcers in the new pouch, i was relieved to find out i did have something wrong and this pain would go away , so in 2018 i had a bypass revision to have the ulcers removed , my new pouch had lengthened (stretched due to acide reflux) , so i had further surgery to shorten this and the ulcers were taken out. Further complications aro…

So, my old scale gave up the ghost, started measuring in obviously wrong ways. I bought a new scale from here, one that can measure body fat percentage and link with my phone app. (The Yunmai scale). The scale shows me weighing about seven lbs. more than the other scale did. It's a little annoying to think that the other scale was probably inaccurate by that amount.

Hello, I'm new to this site. I wanted to know if someone else is having the same issue as me or if it's normal. I had the gastric bypass done April 30, 2019 at the time of the surgery I was 287 lbs. I am now 4 weeks out and I am at 269, I've lost only 18 lbs and 1 to 2 inches. Are 18 lbs good? I see post of other patients that have lost a lot more, I know everyone is different I just want to know if others have lost that amount or close to that amount 4 weeks post op.

Well this is one of those questions that I probably thought I would never be asking. Does weight loss eventually stop by itself or do you have to consciously change things in order to maintain? I’m not quite at the maintenance stage yet but I’m not far off. I currently weigh 52kg and am at the stage where if I lose a couple more kilos that would be good but if I don’t I will still be happy. Last time I saw my surgeon he told me that he doesn’t want me to get below 50kg or he might have to start force feeding me and I think he was only half joking! I currently don’t track but just try to make healthy choices in appropriate sized portions. I also don’t avoid carbs…
