My 2nd surgirversary was on Thursday, it was also the 3rd anniversary of having my trach removed. Just 5 months earlier in October 2015, I suffered from sudden cardiac death and was dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived after receiving 4 to 5 shocks from and AED( automated external defibrillator). My airway was damaged while being intubated which brought on the emergency tracheostomy. Being that I was outside walls of a hospital when I had my cardiac event, the survival rate for sudden cardiac death is 3%. You guys are looking at a miracle who is 130lbs lighter.

Hi ladies! Has anyone had any experiences with getting the depo shot post-surgery? My surgery was Nov. 23rd, 2018. I'm terrified of the weight gain aspect and I was thinking of switching to the patch instead. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank-you. [emoji3]

So i'm told during the surgery they're going to pump my stomach full of air so that they could move around and do stuff. Is that what everyone else does too? I'm thinking maybe thats why my doctor doesnt need me to do the preop diet... I'm only just hearing about the pumping air thing i dont think i've heard anyone talking about it happening to them. I don't know I'm just trying to make sense of it and decide whether or not i'm going to do the preop diet. My surgery is coming up soon so I don't have that much time to think about it.

Wondering if any CPAP users have had difficulty using their machines after surgery? So I was advised by my surgeon to bring my CPAP machine to have after surgery. I brought it with me but they never hooked me up to it. After being discharged, I admit I got lazy and didn't bother setting it back up and now I am almost 3 weeks post op and attempted to use it the other night. I ended up taking off my mask in the middle of the night because I found that my stomach was cramping in almost the same ways when I accidentally eat and drink my protein shake too close together. I only ended up wearing it for about 3 hours before I had to take it off. My sleep apnea prior to surgery w…

Hello! I am interested in starting the pouch reset. I saw here on BP the "meal plans". They mentioned often what brands I should eat/drink and I'd like to know if anybody had a more generic ( besides protein powder) version of these stated meals. I am beyond poor and can only afford one type of powder. In the past I enjoyed Syntax mixed flavors. I never feel restriction and I'm hoping the reset will help in going forward, just don't know an affordable way to do it. Thanks in advance. ❤

So, I have been having what I thought was chest pain the past few ays, but I actually did something to my stomach. I have had a few episodes this past week of eating too fast and throwing up, and Friday it happened again... Since then, I've had trouble eating and drinking. I feel like I get full faster than usual, and I'm having pain when I inhale. as anyone overhead this happen? I'm 4 1/2 yrs. post op, and have really not had a ton of complication in any way, so I'm a little concerned now. I will be going to the doctor to get looked at, but I just want to see if anyone has gone through this. Thank in advance. Chris

I am 3 yrs out, RNY. I haven't ever had or have now any sense of restriction. I never get that full feeling. I mean, at dinner, I rarely eat all of it, something just says in my head, ok now, stop. I just don't know how it feels to be satiated. I admittedly have stuffed my face, and I feel full but I want to eat normally all the time. I feel like my stomach is an endless pit. I eat small portions of the Wrong things. Graze. VERY BAD I know. I'm getting satisfaction from the sweets, etc but missing the proper satiety. Will I ever feel that? Dont be rude, but scold if you must. I need help.

Hi All: Was wondering if any recent members have had gastric bypass and been diagnosed with RA prior to surgery. Were you taking oral prednisone? How did you cope after surgery? Did symptoms lessen or worsen? Thanks in advance for replies.

I've been reading a lot of posts about "smart scales". I have a basic ol' scale in my bathroom for now. After looking at what some scales can show you, body fat, water weight, bone mass...I was wondering if anyone has purchased these and can verify they're accurate? After some research on my own, I had my eye on the fit bit scale. I would also have to buy a fit bit, but I like the thought of everything being linked. Any input is welcome! Happy Saturday!!!

So, I had my 2 week post op visit with surgeon and nutritionist today, and they gave me the go ahead to start "bland" purees. For lunch I made Cream of Rice, and had the recommended 2 tablespoons. I got a stomach/pouch ache immediately afterwards even though I ate slowly. Is this a sign my pouch is not ready for purees? Or is it normal for the first "meal"?

Hello, Just wondering if anyone has taken or is currently taking an anti inflammatory after surgery? I was on Voltaren for multiple issues and since I have been off it since surgery, I am in so much pain. When I asked my surgeon they did flat out say no it more like wait awhile and we will see. I was taking it while I had the lap band with no issues. I had a upper GI and a barium swallow for other things and nobody said I had issues due to taking the Voltaren. My weight loss has pretty much stopped/stalled after 7 weeks due to not being able to exercise. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi everyone, I’m on day 4 of the pre-op diet. Surgery date is April 2. Anyone else with an April date? Any advice from others already gone through the surgery? I have to travel next week, due to work. Any advice on how to manage the diet?

I had my one month post surgery checkup yesterday for my RNY and I'm so happy I did this!! ? My close friends and family have been super supportive and I'm lucky with that. But I'm irked when someone says I didn't 'need' this surgery, and didn't need to do something this 'radical' to my body. I went into the WLS program with a BMI of 42, 100 pounds overweight and my BP was 164/116 at the start of the program. That's a hot mess. I've been polite about it but what I really want to do is smile sweetly and say... 'I appreciate your opinion over there Bob, but zero f*cks are given over here ?'. And is it me or is it always skinny people who say this? …

I went through all the drawers and the closet today and got rid of a LOT of clothing...….. and I found quite a few pieces that I had been saving and that actually fit now! It sure opened up a lot of closet space and feels so good to fit into things I haven't worn in years. It was a real morale booster, as this has been a "hungry" day. Seeing all those clothes going out the door reminded me to stay strong and not even think about cheating.

My surgery is April 4 andmy doctor told me to start taking my vitamins last week. I was told to take Flinstones multivitamins but I remember reading an article online saying they're actually not as good as other multivitamins. I dont know. I'm trying to salvage my hair and such. What were you told to take? For people who've already had the surgery, what helped you?

Hey ya’all. I am 3 days post op from a lap band revision to the RNY bypass. It wasn’t the smoothest of recoveries. I was sick for almost 2 days. Vomiting more than I was taking in. Also I got Crepitus from my breast to my eyes and it swelled up my left side of the face. That has subsided a bit but still painful in the neck and it rubs on the inside so I get terrible chest and upper back pain. Now my abdomen on the left is so swollen than my left upper this is swollen. Feel like a fatty. The worse of it all is that i gained 22 pounds in the hospital and I ate barely anything. I just about lost it when I got home. But since I couldn’t eat anything they continuously pumpe…

So I really wanted to be one of those people who posted a triumphant positive story about getting a bypass surgery with no complications. Sadly that hasn’t been the case. I had a gastric bypass done on April 1 and was discharged on April 2. I was feeling good, walking, and able to sip liquids. My surgeon said everything was routine and I was looking good. When I went home the evening of April 2, I felt a little bloated but not terrible. By 1:30a I woke up from my sleep feeling nauseous and started throwing up. By 4a on April 3 I was back in the hospital. My surgeon discovered that there was twisting in my small intestines which was preventing my liquids from going down. A…

I've been collecting products since before my first appointment 10/30/18; I know that many people caution against buying so much ahead of time, but I like having options and I understand my taste buds may change after surgery. I am using a lot of the products in the two plus months before surgery.

I'm very curious to see what everyone has been told about vitamins post op? Is it possible to just find a decent multivitamin or does your doctor/Dietician specify what vitamins are needed? I've heard B12 is very important? Tell me your daily vitamin routine. My surgery is still months away but my starting weight is 320lbs my goal is anything under 220 but overall goal in my mind is 185lbs.

So I’m on day 12 of my pre op diet, 38 to go ? I’ve lost 13lbs and I’m hanging in there, but damn it’s not getting easier. Thought the hunger would pass after a few days but nah.. and I think about food every second of every day. I’ll follow my surgeons instructions no matter how hard it is, but please tell me the constant thoughts of food will fade slightly after surgery? I’m excited to not feel the hunger as much but I’m definitely worried my addiction to food will bother me forever

After a year of Drs appts and tests and after one denial...I got approved. Now for the money part...yikes lol. I know that my surgeon is requiring $1502(my insurance deductible is $1500 and i've met a good deal of that already)...now i'm waiting to hear from the hospital about what they will need up front. The surgeons part has to be paid before the surgery is scheduled and the hospital's part has to be paid 10 days before surgery. How much did y'all have to pay to the hospital up front? I'm having RNY by the way.

Has anyone else been through the struggle of trying to find the right balance on a stimulant ADHD medication after their RNY gastric bypass? I had tried many different meds when I was younger to find that Vyvanse was ultimately the med that would work for me long term, and I have been on it for many years. Post surgery, I'm noticing it feels like Vyvanse has only a true effectiveness of maybe a solid hour or two. If that?? Focus, concentration attentiveness, energy, you name it... It's all gone down the drain. Has anyone else had issues finding the balance with their ADHD meds post surgery, and where/how did you find success?

I know I've been on here a few times to discuss my diet. I had surgery March 14th 2019 (bypass) and I can't seem to get things in. I can't drink enough or eat the puree like I'm supposed to. It's Saturday at almost 2am and I'm on the couch sobbing. My stomach has been growling. I almost burst into tears tonight when we were out for my boyfriends birthday dinner with his family but I didn't. I held it together. I can't figure out how to make this all work. I think I'm severely dehydrated and literally starving. I have a few things going on that are complicating things for me and they are both so dumb. One is that I have multiple friends who've had this surgery done that ar…

Starting yesterday afternoon I have had a burning feeling where I think my new pouch is. I take a PPI in the morning, but this kinda feels like heartburn, which I had prior to my bypass. I'm wondering what a small leak would feel like. Also, what else could be causing this pain? I have had no nausea, no vomiting, and am making all my fluid and protein goals. I will call my surgeon's office in the morning, just wonder if anyone else has had pain in their pouch? Thanks!

So, is it going to be easier to kick sugar out of my life prior to surgery or after? I am leaning towards after, since i won't be eating, and only mu liquids and purees for quite some time. I think I would be just miserable if I attempted to go completely off at this point. I of course have reduced, but not 100%.

Hi, this is my 1st on here. I am at a loss for this. I had my surgery in 2011 and I lost 100lbs and I can't lose anymore weight. I feel that if I can't eat normally, why can't I lose weight? I feel very disappointed and up set with my self. Sometimes I feel why did I ever do this if I can't lose weight to me sometimes it feels pointless.

I had my gastric bypass surgery on March 22, 2019. I keep hearing people talk about restriction. I just advanced to very thin/pureed foods yesterday and I assumed that after about 3 Tbsp. It would feel tight or uncomfortable like everyone else does but I don't notice that going on with me. I stop eating anyway because that seems to be the stopping point for everyone else. I am not hungry but I just don't know why I can't feel anything. What the heck is wrong with me????

I have gone back and forth the last 4 months whether or not I felt the complications were worth the results, and today, after blacking out in Walmart and having to sit on the floor to regroup numerous times throughout the day so I could do simple tasks like pick something up off the floor, I have officially decided I made a terrible decision. I am happy for those of you who have seen benefits of this surgery, but I am just... existing... day by day. I have lost no weight in 2 months (stalling at the same weight I did on Atkins, but with a crapload more complications). I feel awful. I could deal with an ulcer and the gallbladder and the hernia, but this low blood pressure …

Just looking for some reassurance. I went in thinking I wanted a gastric sleeve, and my surgeon basically told me I wouldn’t lose the weight and I would gain it back. His recommendation is gastric bypass. I am petrified of the surgery, and long term implications or problems I could have as a result. I should be excited about the opportunity to change my life, but instead I am scared I won’t like what my life turns into. Would love to hear some long term success stories. Thanks in advance.

I was just told that prior to my upcoming surgery (non rny related) that I need to be off all vitamins and no protein powder for a week. Will I have issues with this? She said the vitamins can interfere with anesthesia and the pp can mess it up as well. I'm about 3.5 months out of rny surgery. My bloodwork for vitamins done at 3 months were all good. She said if I felt bad I could take them again but stop 3 days before. BUT on the surgery paperwork it said to not stop taking vitamins (only stop fish oil) if you are a gbp person. I didnt read the packet until I got home or I would have asked for clarification. Anyone have any advice about this?

I have intractable vomiting after my sleeve surgery. I vomit 10-20 times a day, every day for nearly 5 years. I have had 4 years of being rejected by surgeons for any type of surgical fix due to complications of my previous sleeve- including a stroke caused by severe dehydration. all surgeons report bypass is my only fix but no one has wanted to touch me. I have finally found a surgeon willing to try to fix me. has anyone else had similar issues and did bypass help resolve them?

My doctor scheduled me to visit Jan 14th and I was unsure why. I asked my contact person over there and she stated it's an appointment with the doctor because he's going to be prescribing me some weight loss meds to get me losing a little during the next 5 months of nutrition visits I have to complete. That was kind of shocking. I didn't expect to be given meds. Anyone know what they might give me? I had an addiction problem with Adderall for some years that I finally overcame and this kind of scares me. I don't want anything that'll make me speedy to remind me of the Adderall days. I'm already taking Trintellix for depression which has been AMAZINGGGG. Thoughts?
