Hello, I had the VSG about 9 years ago. Bad reflux for the last 2 years. Doctors recommend to go full bypass surgery to stop reflux. Anyone heard or know of anyone who experienced this? thank you.

Just an observation: I've noticed that the proper serving size for almost all foods is actually the serving size bariatric patients are supposed to eat. Everybody just eats 3 times the serving size on the labels. Nearly everything is 1 cup or less or 4oz or less or 1 slice, etc. Makes life easy since you don't have to measure nonstop... just actually follow the recommended serving size for once. Once upon a time I used to laugh at how little they'd say a serving size was... but now it makes so much sense. lol.

Had sleeve revision to Bypass surgery yesterday afternoon and it was successful! In a lot of pain But the morphine really helps but OMG do not LAUGH!!! Something funny happened and i laughed suddenly and regretted the joke immediately lol Outside of that gas pains sucks walking makes it feel better Overall I’m happy... in a lot of pain but happy for another journey, and this time i will hit my goal weight!!!

  10. Started by Losing the old Harley,

I was sleeved in June of 2018. I’m a little over 7 months PO, 72kg down. I can’t believe the difference! When I was fresh out of my surgery I found it to be, at times, a struggle with knowing what to do and what not to do. There was conflicting posts everywhere. I’ve been studying nutrition for the last 12 months pre and post op and have worked alongside my dietician very closely and had great results. I’ve learnt so much when it comes to Health and Fitness which has helped me have such a great result in a short period of time. I have decided to share the things I have learnt to other people in hopes I can ease some of the confusion and unanswered questions that…

  11. Hello all ! I was just curious if any of you had experienced any of these few things . I am almost three weeks out and as of a few days ago my intake of food and protein has been limited Bc i can’t seem to keep anything down not even water. Everything that i loved a few days ago now just the scent makes me dry heave or actually throw up. None of the medications i have for nausea has helped.. in fact they have just made me throw up. I’ve also started developing fevers and constant chills even w/o a noticeable fever. I also now have a really sharp stabbing pain in my upper abdomen. I did contact my doctors office this evening to let them know what’s going on . I’m just c…

  12. Started by Mattymatt,

I read that Gastric Bypass patients lose an average of 75% of their excess body weight. At the time of surgery, I weighed 346 and my ideal body weight by BMI is approximately 190 pounds. So, that means I am carrying an excess weight of 156 pounds. 75% of 156 pounds is 117 pounds. So that means if I lost 75% of my excess weight, I would be a relatively svelt 229 pounds. Crunching the numbers is interesting. 229 seems like an impossibly long way off but I'm only going to take it day by day.

1 day post op and i have loads of gas! I know walking helps. Any other tricks?

  15. Started by Courtney ,

Just finished my 6 month preop today and was approved by insurance for gastric bypass surgery! I’ll be called by the scheduler tomorrow but they said likely first or second week of February for my date. I’m beyond excited and this has felt like the longest 6 months of waiting... I know post op will be rough the first few weeks and would love suggestions for purée/soft foods so I’m not too bored of the same foods every day :)

I'm 18 months post-surgery, at my goal weight, working out regularly, generally feeling good. But I realized during this holiday season that I'm leaving the honeymoon phase of post-surgery eating. I can eat more variety, and a little more at a time so I have to be more mindful. The hardest part is that I see some of my old, bad eating habits creeping back in: snacking at night, thinking about what I'll eat next even as I'm still eating something, justifying eating a little too much (or a lot). Even though I still can't really seriously overeat, I'm starting to worry about this slippery slope. I just keep waiting for the weight to come flooding back on as I lose more and m…

  18. Wondering if anyone had the choice between the Liver Reduction diet or liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Which did you choose and why?

  19. Started by Recidivist,

I'm certain that everyone here went into their surgery absolutely committed to following all of the dietary rules to the letter. And I'm equally certain that most people ended up cheating at one point or another. I'm having bypass in February 2019, and I'd like to hear from people who are a year or more post-surgery about how tempted you are to cheat, how often you do it, and how you get back on track when you do cheat.

Please share your love or horror stories regarding chewable multivitamins vitamins. I'm leaning towards ProCare Health w/ 45mg iron because it's a one-a-day. Not planning on taking them yet, but I'm making plans for what to try first when the time comes.

Did anyone have trouble eating during the soft food stage? I am having so much trouble eating and my stomach hurts.

  23. Started by bluegirl216,

I celebrate my 1 year anniversary of my RNY today and the difference a year makes. I'm healthier (losing over 100 pounds and lots of inches), I feel more confident, so much so that went to a fitness class yesterday and although I was still horribly uncoordinated (losing wight does not fix that!) I had fun. I'm not saying the journey was all roses (I'll fight with anyone who thinks WLS is an 'easy way out') - I had nausea, pain, a stricture, endoscopic dilution, I felt alone. The amount of times I despaired that I'd made a very wrong, expensive and irreversible choice are too numerous to mention, But every month I started to feel progress and i held onto that wa…

I'm not worried about surgery which is tomorrow... or about the tricky first weeks. More about life after that. Difficult to explain... worried about the rest of my life being about food! Is that strange?

  25. Started by ???????,

I'm pre-op...and my main fear isn't the surgery or anything else except wondering how I'm going to stop hoovering my food. I'm assuming the surgery will force me to control this, but I don't want to learn from mistakes in this situation. I have always been a fast eater no matter if I'm under a time crunch or not. Did any of ya'll do anything in particular to help keep your food hoovering habits in check when eating, pre or post-op?

Over the past 5 years I’ve steadily gained 40 pounds. The last 3 months I’ve gone back to basics and following the rules and abandoning the bad habits I’d developed. question is how fast should I expect the weight to come back off? I’m down 15 pounds in 3 months. Stalling last 3 weeks calories 800carb50 net carb 30 exercise 15-20 min a day?

I am 2.5 months out and still really struggling with sadness at not being the weight I expected to be. Yes yes, "what did you expect, to lose 100lbs in 3 months?" I don't know... maybe deep down inside I had hoped I would. I can't get over my impatience. I always want instantaneous results with everything. I know and knew going into this that that wouldn't be the case here. But I still end up crying and upset since I feel like I've gone through a lot of BS since surgery and I'm not happy with the results I am getting. In this particular moment, I just feel really depressed. I feel like I have such a long road before I lose another 100lbs and then so much more pain and mon…

I am a little over three weeks post-op at this time. Almost everything is healing perfectly fine. No more pain or congestion. However, I have noticed that I get extremely nauseous after walking for any period of time (besides short trips around the house). I do not experience any light-headedness or dizziness, just the nausea. Have any of y'all experienced the same thing this far out from surgery? Is it normal? Thank you all in advance for your responses.

Is it safe to drink Smooth Moves twice in a day if it's been 12 hours? I am getting mixed responses from my non-WLS friends. lol. Package doesn't say anything specific.

I just got back from another trip from work and am packing for yet another this Tuesday. I fly all over the US and US Territories for my job. Typically a Tues-Thurs deal, at most Mon-Fri. Most of the time I could stay at a residence inn and cook for myself, but I work very long hours when I'm on the road, so planning on it is really foolish of me. Thus far, I've consumed only protein bars, peanuts and protein drinks, but it's pretty lame after a few days. I'm 3 months out, but approach "real" food extremely slowly. What works for fast food? I know red meat, pasta, rice, bread ist verboten. Here's what I've compiled, but curious if these are good or not (G…

  33. I am scheduled to have RNY on February 13. I'm a Type 1 diabetic who has experienced some scary low blood sugars and I have a lot of anxiety about how to manage them post-surgery. I usually drink a lot of juice or have candy when my blood sugar drops and I know that I will not be able to do that after the surgery. I had a good visit with my Endocrinologist today and we discussed how to manage avoiding blood sugar drops, but I don't think she really gets how long (and how much I need to eat or drink) to get my blood sugars up when I'm crashing. She says just take in 15 grams of sugar/carbs and then wait 15 minutes. Sometimes it takes me an hour to get out of the 40s and …

Long story short, I shaved my head due to MASSIVE hair loss after bypass. I was losing clumps of hair every day and had a very obvious bald spot. I bought a hair topper wig to cover it with but it only helped for 2 weeks before it no longer covered the growing baldness. So I said screw it.... and shaved my entire head! I feel empowered. It's something I've always wanted to do. I'm also 248lbs currently! My starting weight was 340lbs. Worth the hair loss

  38. I'm one month post surgery and I was wondering if I have a stricture issue or just sensitive to some food. I can throw up sometimes after eating but only once a day at most. I have acid reflex still and I'm on medication for it but feel like stuff still gets stuck like chicken. Should I just give it more time or be worried?

  41. So I've arranged my first dietician consult, which is interestingly done remotely via WebEx video conference (not relevant to this post, but just interesting). Any who...I was given a lengthy PDF packet to read through regarding general nutrition and as I read it, I find I don't agree with some of the information. I've been living relatively strict keto, High Fat/Moderate Protein/Low Carb for nearly 2 years and I'm afraid I'm going to get into this consult and butt heads with the poor person. Not on purpose, but I really don't want to change the way I eat because I know what happens when I eat the stuff that is considered OK. I get bloated, I gain weight, my face gets puf…

I am 2 months out from my surgery and I developed severe diarrhea a week ago. Just got out of the hospital and they were not able to find anything. The did stool tests and ultrasound and cat scans of my stomach. I also have no appetite at all and if I try to eat even a cracker I feel sooo full for like the next 12 hrs. We all suspect something to do with the surgery. The gastro dr suspects it is related to the cutting of the vagus nerve. Anyone else experience anything like this?

I had my surgery 8 weeks ago and have experienced continued gout attacks and I'm limited on medications I can now take. When I don't have a flare up my toes and ankle swell throughout the day. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? Also I'm not eating anything that would cause a flare up and the allopurinol and colchicine don't stop the attacks from coming

Did anyone here start their bariatric supplements before surgery to get a head-start? If so, did you find it helpful in the end? Not only would I like to be as healthy as I can be before surgery, but I'd like to establish this pill-taking routine so once it's time to start supplementing however long after surgery it won't be a scramble to figure out where to start. My dietician is on-board, but I'd like some real-life feedback LOL Thoughts?

  49. Started by MassMom,

I am so thankful for the continued weight loss after my bypass. I measure in 10 pound increments. Out of the 190’s and into the 180’s!

  50. Started by Recidivist,

I had my pre-op appointment (for gastric bypass) at the hospital yesterday, and I have checked all the boxes to the satisfaction of my surgeon. They will now submit it to my insurance for pre-approval before setting a surgery date, and I'm quite anxious about that step. Since I'm sort of marginal in terms of BMI, I'm worried that the insurance will turn me down (although "fortunately" i also have high BP, sleep apnea and I'm pre-diabetic). Has anyone been turned down by the insurance the first time? If so, how did you resolve it? Has your doctor intervened and talked to the insurance company directly? (I have really good health insurance with Aetna.)
