Hello everyone! If you care to share I would appreciate! I am almost 3 weeks out, and it is time to order some supplements, as my surgeon told me I could start taking them after 4 weeks post surgery. Sadly, his list is basic and he advised me to talk to dieticians, which her respons was you need good multivitamin, calcium and B,D vitamins. In my country there are no specifically VSG vitamins, so I will need to make my own kit and order from abroad. What is your vitamin routine?Dosage? What are the brands, formulations to look for? Should I order Bariatric advantage? Anyone who lives in europe, could you please share where you order your supplements? …

So due to the holidays I have gained 2 lbs. I have my final nut visit tomorrow. I plan to wear light weight clothing, plan to take an Epsom bath tonight and tomorrow am and only drink a half of a protein shake in the morning before the appt. I have been eating really clean (low sodium etc.) the past few days, drinking tons of water and limiting to 1100 calories so I am hoping the scale looks better tomorrow. So my question- does insurance look at the weight from the first and last doctor's appointment or the nutritionist? It is at 2 different offices and 2 different scales. My doctor appointment is next week and surely I can lose the 2 pounds by then and be less t…

Hi. I am almost 3 years out and am having problems. I initially lost 30 pounds, only to gain 10 back in the last year. I moved from N.Y. to Georgia. Then I got married a little more than a month later. I started school online and got and lost a job. I recently got a job as a Security Guard and it's basically a desk job. I no longer eat bread, rice, or pasta. I eat potatoes occasionally. I had been using sugar in my coffee but have cut all sugar out of it. I only use creamer or milk now. I have been unable to get my vitamins or any protein shakes or any meal replacements in the last year. I am just starting to get back on my feet and need to get vitamins. What kind can I…

Tomorrow is my final decision appointment. It is with my surgeon and nutritionist. Anybody have a clue what this appointment is? I know I have been approved by the insurance already. Everything is done. Pre op assessment is done.

I am 6 weeks post op and I have not lost any weight in two weeks. I am down 35 pounds since sugery, but I am eating still bland soft foods, and drinking water, and drinking my protien shake. Why the stall?

I'm a newbie here with bypass surgery scheduled for February 2019. Like many of you, I've never been big on exercise, and I know that will become a big part of my life post-surgery. I can definitely commit to walking every day, but I can't see myself going to the gym. Would a brisk walk every day be enough, or is it going to slow my weight loss? I'd appreciate insight from those on the other side!

My Story I had RNY 12/21/17 starting weight 230 and Surgery weight 218. Lowest weight was in May 2017 at 173. I bounced between 173-175. Since then I’ve creeped up to 180. I’ve gotten off track. I don’t eat much in a sitting bc of the restriction. But I find nothing I eat affects me negatively (no dumping etc) so I will eat bread items and sugar and I have gotten back into the habit of drinking coke again. Even if it’s just to have a couple of sips. I need to buckle down and get back on track. My goal weight is 140. Anyone else in the same space as me?

I quit 8 years ago but been craving lately! I used to use smoking as a distraction not to eat... I know it is not allowed after rny, but thought I'd ask anyway (even though i know the answer)

  13. I'm nearly 2 weeks post op. Am having nausea at times that is very unpleasant and there has been no change to what I'm eating. Is this still normal? What are other's experiences with nausea? Does it settle? How long did it take? Or is this something we have to put up with?

I had my gastric bypass December the 10th so Monday I will be 4 weeks post op. My weight is driving me crazy. Surgery weight was 240 lbs. its been up and down today its 234.9 is this normal. I am getting my water and protein in . I hoped I would be down more than this.

As common as these stricture situations sound, I'm curious if anyone has been told a way to help prevent them or do doctors even know why they happen in the first place? Is it just a charlie horse in the pouch area?

  16. My first surgeon visit in December 2018 also counted as a nutrition consult so my last consult should be in May. Monday, Jan 7th, I have the first true dietician consult in the evening. No idea what to expect yet so it'd be cool to keep up with other folks going through the same thing at the same time. Hollar at me!

I am usually really good at my small sips, but sometimes I just get SO thirsty I NEED to chug a bit of water so I do. It hurts briefly and passes. Never have spit it back up. I've only done this like 5 times.... out of being desperately thirsty. Can water alone stretch the pouch over time by doing this? I always heard water basically passes straight through... hence only the temporary discomfort. Never have any gas or anything. I've tried biotene and spry mouth spray to stave off thirst and dry mouth, but it doesn't help. I just HAVE to drink some quantifiable water sometimes. Is this a serious issue I have to stop? Or is once in a while okay if it isn't upsetting my stom…

Hi. I am fast approaching my surgery date and I would like to hear some thoughts on the following. I have been working toward surgery, losing around 40 pounds over the last year. I try to avoid or limit sweets but I have a real sweet-tooth and will occasionally have a SMALL treat. NOT EVERY DAY, JUST SOMETIMES. I know we are supposed to avoid any sugary sweets once I've had the surgery. But I was wondering: If you were to eat something sweet, will you always have dumping? Do you find some sweets safer than others? (e.g. a bite of dark chocolate versus a bite of Ice Cream) Do carbs (like from the dough in a slice of pizza) behave the same way? (I r…

The eating part at least. I still had a lot of bad habits post-surgery that I never sought help for. Oftentimes I don't stop eating until I'm satisfied, but until I'm full. I think this has resulted in my stomach stretching quite a bit, because I was astonished today when I found myself able to eat 3 whole sandwhiches with scrambled egg. I am fairly certain someone who's 9 months post-op shouldn't be able to eat that. Despite this, I'm still 54kg (120lbs) down, but I know that if I don't fix these bad habits, I will start gaining weight again sooner or later. I feel like an enormous loser now, but I want to turn my eating habits around once again.. I just don't know …

Any advice about starting the soft food phase? Was it easy/difficult to reach the goal of 60 grams of protein a day? Share what worked for you.

  25. Started by irol888 ,

So I'm 19 days post-op RNY and doing great! Just started to eat more solid foods after my visit with my surgeon. He said I'm right on with weight loss - 30 lbs total (13.8 pre-op/16.2 post op). Learning to add in foods and not get all crazy seeing the daily calories rise from 400ish to 700 per day. My old mind says "Oh no! Now you're going to gain with that increase. This process won't work for you!" Then my new mind kicks in and logic prevails. It's funny how our old "diet" minds are always there with illogical thoughts. This is as much of a mental journey as it is a physical journey. Anyone else find themselves with inner voices doubting?

This is a personal reflection. I felt like 2018 was a really bad year. Work drama, lots of stress, personal concerns. Just not really happy in general. Then I remembered that 2018 will always be the year I had gastric bypass, and it is changing my life. 2018 has set me up for a terrific 2019. Down 50 pounds in 4 months and RUNNING again. I love to run. I feel free and it takes away all my stress. So thank you 2018! Thank you for everything and for bringing me to a new year full of promise! Happy new year, pals! May this year be your year of change too!

  27. I'm getting very scared reading through posts about plain water. I do NOT like additives like Mio and Crystal Light and I cannot imagine never being able to just drink water plain. It seems that a lot of people struggle, not just in the beginning but long term! I am freaking out at the thought of always having to add something special to my water. Is it really that bad?

This is my first post. I had RNY on Oct 18, 2018. I'm down 37 pounds since surgery, so I'm quite happy with the loss. Following my programs plan, I'm still at the soft food stage. I am both delighted and terrified as to the amount of food I can eat. I'm eating more than my share of protein first, but find that I can eat a whole lot of it. I'm diligently keeping track of my food and am seeing that I have to be quite careful to keep my calories under 1500. I am regularly eating between 1100-1300 calories. I've stopped having protein supplements all together as I'm getting in all my protein through regular food: eggs, fish, prawns, cheese, beans, etc. Might anyone else be in…

I'm curious what steps everyone had to take from their first surgeon visit to approval/surgery date. Did you do certain testing, if so, when was it determined you had to do it? No need for major detail unless you feel like it. I'm thinking something like an easy to read timeline... Example: [date] 1st Surgeon Visit> [date] blood work , stress test, psych test, etc.> [date] insurance approval> [date] start pre-op/liver shrink diet> [date] Surgery date The reason I'm asking this is because #1 I'm marginally impatient, hate surprises and I'm trying to manage it. #2 My insurance policy that covers bariatric won't begin until 01/01/19 and I go to my firs…

And because I feel like I am protected by this shield of anonymous I hope it will not haunt me but instead help me. I beg for understanding! So as some of you know I had doubts regarding the surgery RNY. I felt like with the support of members I got to the peaceful state of mind, prepared for what I should be eating and not, did quite a bit of research. I have noticed that in Europe (where I am from) there are no specific support groups and these types of surgeries are taboo to talk about, people are looked down for having them. So I haven't told anyone but my immed…

I got my date. After my first date had to be canceled 16 days before surgery due to blood clots in both lungs . I’ve been waiting for my multitude of doctors to agree it was time. I was told on Friday I could schedule surgery for the end of January. I have to have a CT angiogram on January 3, than see my hematologists on January 8 and if he clears me I am good to go on January 29th. Thank you all for your support and sharing you lives with all of us. Have a SAFE, HEALTHY and HAPPY NEW YEAR

I'm wondering what people do to ease the symptoms of dumping? I know it's best to avoid, but it happens and when it happens, I feel like I MUST eat. Low blood sugar and my body wants to fix it. Should I eat and if so what? Anything anyone found to help? RNY 14 months out.

  34. Hi All: For those of you who have had the RNY - how necessary is it to have someone with you? I know that you need someone to bring you home. The reason I ask is b/c my husband is going through health issues and most likely will not be able to be with me. We talked about it, but I don't think he has the endurance or stamina to even sit through the surgery or be able to sleep on the sofa/couch. So really, it's unlikely I will have anyone overnight or maybe even through the surgery, etc. And I don't really have anyone around me who can be my advocate or stay with me otherwise. I'm on my own. Have any of you done the surgery on your own? Please advise. …

  35. Ok so I know a lot of you don't weigh yourselves more then once a week. I usually weight myself about 3 times a week. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am actually losing weight ☺️ So I weighed myself on Friday I weighed the same as I had 2 days before 201... Today I got on the scale just knowing I must of gained after having stuff I should not of had at a party last night. Hey it is the season to celebrate. To my astonishment the scale read 197 whoooohooooo. I have not seen anything under 200 in years. I did a happy dance in the bathroom. I am so happy I took this journey. I'm getting my life back.

Does having a stricture always mean you will regurgitate? I no longer have the burning sensation from where my ulcer is. But generally in the same area, every time I swallow it feels like something gets stuck. Like a hard lump. But then it passes through. This is even with liquids. I can't tell if it's just remnant pain from a healing ulcer or if it could be a mild stricture, not quite tight enough to cause "back-flow". Doc said if my ulcer heals and I have no pain I don't need a repeat endoscopy, but this new sensation is strange and I can't tell what it's from. I don't spit anything back up. My next appointment with him is Jan 7.

This gas they filled me with is crazy! I'm a week PO and every day I feel like I'm eating a huge bowl of beans and paying the price. I think maybe it has tapered off but then BAM! it's back with a vengeance. I might have to get the gas-x but I've been told that it just has to work it's way out. Is that right?

  42. Finally got my Anthem Blue Cross policy requirements confirmed. Standard 6 months of nutrition visits (should be done in May), psych evaluation in April and a $3500 out of pocket maximum which I have no idea what that exactly means. Google describes OOP max as the maximum amount you have to pay out of pocket (copays/deductibles/coinsurance) before everything is covered at 100%...which makes sense. Benefits lady has me confused and they won’t be back in the office until next week. In her email she made it sound like I have to pay all that before surgery. Anyone have any insight and/or tips on this? Do I need to start saving $$$? ?

So today I am meeting friends out at a restaurant for the first time since my gastric bypass. Planning to order grilled chicken skewers (thai dipping sauce on the side and may be too sweet to use). Instead I should just had a sleeve or just cut half of it off so there wouldn’t be any malnutrition or dumpings... coz now I lost 24k within a month.. I feel so weak I don’t know how to get back to work as I feel too weak even to get upstairs... I am so depressed that it is even impossible to explain... any comments on that???

I had my gastric bypass Dec. 10th. I have been doing fine I have been getting 60oz of fluids down and 30mg of protein every day, Well today I started worrying that I am doing something wrong. My weight loss has been slow 12.5 pounds since surgery. How much protein was everybody else doing 10 days out. Its hard to get down 3 oz at a setting. I don't want to mess myself up.
