So as it said I’m a bit over 4 months. Highest weight was 316. I’m now sitting at 228 as of this morning. I was wearing a size 28/30. Now I’m wearing a size 20 comfortably. Now where I need thoughts and opinions here is. I’m getting hungry more frequently now. I tend to wake up in the morning very hungry. I hate having that feeling. what does everyone else do? Do you wake up nearly starving? Another issue I’m seeing is I’m going nearly in a three week cycle. Where one week I loose almost 7-10 pounds then I sit at that weight for almost a full 3 weeks. Its driving me nuts. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. Im eating around 800-1200 calories a…

People!! Take a full body before picture. I’m coming up to my one year anniversary and I literally do not have one full body picture anywhere to compare. I’m so so sorry I didn’t do this. I didn’t want any pictures to remind me of how big I was, but this isn’t about defeat in weight loss, this journey is about celebrating how far we have come, and a picture is worth a thousand words!!

Hey folks...I’m still in the very early stages of preparing for a possible RNY in a couple months and have tons of questions. First being...can I still keto? For the past year and half, I’ve been following a strict ketogenic/LCHF diet. No sugar, no fruit, grains, bread, very low carb. Mostly high fat dairy, fatty meats and other protein sources. Basically avoiding anything natural or unnatural that spikes blood sugar or insulin (I’m not diabetic, that’s just what keto is about) I had to train myself to get used to that and eating high fat everything, fat in my coffee, MCT oil and powder, electrolyte supplement pills, collagen peptide supplements, etc. I’m pretty su…

Hi everyone. My name is Stacy, I am 34 years old and I was just approved for surgery on November 5th. My date is January 2, 2019. This was my third time trying for surgery. The first time I weighed 427 lbs. I barely lost any weight during my 6 months doctor supervised visits so I was denied. Discouraged but determined to show them I could do it, I counted calories and excised and went from 427 down to 202 lbs. The irony was the "healthier" i became, the sicker I got. I dealt with continual heart issues giving me symptoms of heart attacks without the blockages... one attack happened while on the treadmill and landed me in the hospital for 2 weeks. I continu…

Hi all! I’m a lapband to VSG to soon to be RNY convert. Due to severe reflux and a hiatal hernia Dr. thinks RNY would be the best option for me. He did say my risk increases for leaks because of previous surgeries. I’m curious to hear about stories from anyone who has had this surgical path with all three procedures and from those who have had leaks. Thanks for the information!!

Obviously dumping is something that most wls patients fear and all want to try and avoid it. But after reading countless articles and threads I find it all very confusing. There are some food which are obvious triggers e.g alcohol, high fat and high sugar foods. But what I am curious about are things like fruit - fruit is very high in sugar but a lot of the articles and recommended diet plans include fruit as an ok food. This confuses me. Are certain fruits better than others? Is fruit ok but only in very small quantities? I am also wondering if "food combining" helps. Is eating fruit with protein e.g yogurt better than eating it on its own? Does this apply to …

I had gastric bypass December 2016. I have been what the doctor called a model patient. I lost more than expected the first year. I started at 242 and now at 134. I actually have stopped trying to lose weight and stay stable in weight. I lost 5 pounds without trying. The past 2 months I have been sick to my stomach more. I have been nauseous and it actually feels like the surgery was just done. After surgery I had weird tastes and smelled smells differently. I’m having all this again. I go back in 2 weeks for my annual visit. Just curious if anyone else had the same thing happen.

Today is officially one year since I had my surgery! Still one of the best choices I’ve ever made in my life! I’m 5’ 9” and currently 195.6 with a BMI of 31. No more high blood pressure, blood sugar levels are back to normal, arthritis pain is at a minimal, and I have wayyyyy more energy! As for clothes I wear L or XL in tops and bottoms, as for jeans size I still haven’t figured that one out yet, LOL, but that’s because I mostly wear leggings and sweats. I did need to wear a dress recently for an invent that me and my husband attended; it was a size 12. Imagine that, from a 28 to a 12. I never imagined that I could be this small; in fact I can honestly say I haven’t …

Every since a week out from surgery, I was sent to the er for a high resting heart rate of 128 and chest pain and difficulty breathing. They thought it might be a PE, but it came back negative. However, the cat scan of my chest showed some fluid around my heart and lungs. My er doctor wanted me to see a cardiologist in one to two days, but it was a pretty bad ER visit and someone else told me it wasn't that big of a deal so I left confused. I went to my pcm instead, and she immediately gave me a referral to a cardiologist, saying they don't mess around with that kind of stuff. Whoever was supposed to make the referral say on it for a week, and then the cardiologist couldn…

Has anyone else experienced high gastrin levels, ulcers that wont heal and not being able to get enough fluid and protein down? I have had trouble since 4 weeks post op. No gastrin producing tumors found. I pushed really hard the 1st few months and heaved my way thru protein drinks and fluids. Was on TPN for 6 weeks. Now I stop fluids when I feel fullness, get a runny nose, get nausea or burping. I am overwhelmed and feel defeated. Any Suggestions? Nancy Q

Hello everybody Today I want to talk about 2 subjects that I haven’t heard anything about before my surgery. Which I discovered after the surgery. The first thing I wasn’t told anything about was how bad you would smell after the surgery. Not immediately after surgery but when you go back home and you’re around your 4th day post, the putrid smell that comes from your sweat is something you have to get used to. Like I can smell the vitamins that I take and also the food that I consume. Before the surgery I would sweat a lot as well because obvious reasons of being morbidly obese. But now it’s a different kind of smell that’s more stronger. I didn’t know this wou…

I had surgery on 10/31 and I am so dizzy/lightheaded every time I stand up. after my short walks I end up having to lay down for a couple hours before I can even sit upright again. I'm getting about 40-50 ounces of water and eating 2 of my 3 meals. I also started my vitamins the other day. any tips? I really want to be able to build my stamina but I'm not getting anywhere on that front.

Tomorrow morning I will have my bypass surgery. That will begin my physical journey. 7 months ago it began mentally when I decided to live life instead of just existing in life. People keep asking me if I'm scared. How can I be afraid of living life again? The next few days will be difficult and I am sure I will have setbacks ahead but thinking about just watching life go by and not participating in it is much worse. Time to say goodbye to diabetes and a handful of pills each day and hello to a better life.

My band to bypass operation has been booked two weeks before Christmas. I wanted it as soon as possible so sticking to that date, just a little concerned that it is so close to Christmas. Assuming no complications, am I likely to be able to have the odd day out, theatre trip etc, that soon after surgery? I have 2 kids, so still would like to do some things with them.

Hey all. I am 8 days out and lost 12lbs the first 4 days, nothing the last 3, and gained a pound this morning. I've lost 12lbs in a week before on low carb diets. When do you really start noticing it drop, typically? Like when in your process did you think "hey, it's actually working?"

At the hospital Monday morning at 5:30 am. Wheeled to surgery at 7:30 am. Surgery was suppose to be about 3 hrs. Hubby not called back until 3:30pm. They had problem waking me up. My asthma kicked in and I had acute kidney failure. Didn't get up walking until Wed morning. Came home Thursday and soooo glad to be in my bed! The surgery pain is very minimal. Biggest issue is my back pain from sleeping on those damn hospital beds! So if it weren't for my complications things would have gone a whole lot easier! Can't wait to start reaching some of my goals like tying shoes, fitting in a booth seat without having to test it to see if I fit before the hostess walks away, a…

I just had surgery on the 1st. On full liquids, I was allowed to eat cream based soups, so Monday I had strained cream of chicken. For hourrrrrsss I was sweating and then shivering and my heart was racing. Now I am on puree and I had 2 oz of hummus and I just dry-heaved several times and I'm getting super flushed. I feel so so so nauseous and hot! I am eating what they say I can but this is twice now in 3 days! Is this truly dumping or is it just from my stomach not being healed enough? Should I never try these foods again? Is this going to be a risk every single friggin time I have a new food?? This is awful! Every time I eat I am terrified. It makes me not want to eat …

I had nose surgery to repair a deviated septum this past Wednesday. I still have splints inside by nose so I am not allowed to blow it and I feel like I have the flu. Since Wednesday I have lost 5 lbs and now have broken out with the Shingles Rash. They say Shingles is brought on by a weaken immune system so I am thinking the Nose surgery might have been just a little too much for me right now. I think I would have been smart to have taken the Shingles Vaccine when it was offered to me a few months back. I am still eating and drinking what I should but am losing weight a lot faster than I have in months.

So pre surgery at 306 pounds my blood pressure was fantastically low my daily average was in the range of 100-110 over 60-70 which is fantastic. This is great news right well sure, but now I am having issues with blood pressure. Since January I have been getting dizzy at first my doctor said this happens to some patients and gave some precautions etc. No big deal a few weeks of dizzy as my body adjusts well I can do that. Problem is that it hasn't gone away and it has gotten worse when I wake up dizzy, when i stand to fast dizzy, when i bend over dizzy, and no more baths cause that is a fall waiting to happen. I am talking tunnel vision on that last one. I also now …

It's been awhile since i've posted, but here to give a brief update. I have finally made it to Onederland! I was shocked when I saw the scale with numbers below 200. I am overjoyed though, because it means i'm progressing and that I made the right decision. It hasn't been an easy road, but I can say it's been well worth it. I now have about 31 pounds left to lose, to be at my goal weight. My weight has come off faster than I expected, but I am coping with it pretty well so far. I can say it feels good to be able to fit into a size 12 again (although I don't think I will be in them for long). RNYGB: 6/25/2018 HW: 297 LBS. SW: 246 LBS. CW: 196 LBS. GW: 165 LBS.

I’m sitting in my hospital room right now (day after roux en y surgery) and I’ve had absolutely no pain since I came out of surgery. Just wondered if anyone else experienced this? All the reading I did said most people were in excruciating pain so I’m surprised by this. Not even much “discomfort” from incision sites or gas either. If I didn’t have holes in my stomach I wouldn’t have believed I had surgery.

Began this great journey at 238 lbs & 5’9”. 1 year post op & I’m now 160 lbs. That’s a weight loss of 78 lbs. Just wow. I feel terrific in every way, no more blood pressure issues or meds, or sleep apnea, its been so much fun being in this body & just watching the weight drop off and having my health return! (Except....)Except 3 things.... 1) First, a totally new thing starting this week. Severe lower leg cramping a night, followed by aching muscles in legs for days so bad that I can’t even touch my lower legs. Thought I couldn’t take the leg pain/ache anymore & might even have to walk into a hospital or a urgent care. I’ve read en…

I'm in month 5 of my 6 month "waiting period" before my surgeon submits my paperwork to insurance. I'm hopeful to have RNYGB in early 2019 if all goes well. I've heard that success is considered losing 50% of your excess weight. However, I am about 120 lbs overweight and would really like to lose 100 lbs or more. Am I dreaming? Or is that attainable? I am 5' 3" and weigh about 233. I exercise daily for a minimum of 30 minutes and have every intention of sticking with the exercise, water, and nutrition plan. I just feel like I will be disappointed to only lose 60 lbs!

Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible that insurance could decide not to cover gastric bipass surgery if BMI falls below 40 on the day of surgery? I'm approved for Gastric Bypass and my surgery is scheduled for December 3rd but I'm worried about loosing weight before my surgery. I'm 5'4''; current weight is 240; BMI 41.2, no comorbidities. Without any comorbidities, my insurance only approves the procedure if BMI is 40 or over (which I believe is typical for most insurance). I'm worried about losing weight during the 2-week pre-op liquid diet, because I've read that some people will lose 10-15 lbs as a result. If I lose 10-15 lbs during the pre-op liquid diet, that w…

Hi, Pals. Looking to get some feedback. I'm 11 weeks post-op, cleared for all food types. I drink protein shakes for breakfast and lunch most days. When I try to eat something solid, I have very mixed results. In general, I feel somewhat sick when I eat anything solid. Soup is ok. I made turkey chili and that was OK. But eating any kind of turkey, ham, shrimp, cod, chicken- I generally feel really sick and most times I end up throwing it back up. I am not supposed to have carbs for 6 months, but generally those are easier on my stomach than meat protein. I can eat a bit of baked potato or a few bites of lean cuisine mac&cheese. I can eat popcorn and pirates…

Just curious for those post RNY surgery, how long did it take you to really feel glad of the decision to have surgery? It seems some regret it and some it’s just the pain, but a lot of posts seem to go really happy about six months out. I’m sure it takes awhile to adjust to the new lifestyle - how long did that take you? Ten days till surgery!

How long did everyone’s pain last? I’m 5 days post op and still have a lot of pain. I can get up and walk and do stuff but I hurt. The main area is right below my sternum. I’m getting my fluids and protein in, I go real slow and take small sips so I don’t think it’s that. My stomach is still real bloated too. I don’t think I should be concerned yet, just curious about other people’s experiences.

But I have tried several times and no matter how slow I eat I get the foamies and get a sick feeling. He has now recommended that I do another endoscopy said maybe by throat is too small. Idk what to think....how much and what are you guys eating 5 weeks out??

I’ve always been anemic, even as a child. I had my Gastric Bypass in December 2012. As of late I’ve had an increasing problem with my blood levels and several of my vitamins and minerals testing dangerously low, especially my Iron levels. I found an article on the issue and how intravenous infusions may successfully address the issue: http://bariatrictimes.com/intravenous-micronutrient-therapy-imnt-for-gastric-bypass-patients-a-solution-to-complications-of-an-often-unrecognized-problem/ Has anybody else had this problem and if so what option(s) did you explore to address it?
