When did you start seeing big weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I am 8 days out and lost 12lbs the first 4 days, nothing the last 3, and gained a pound this morning. I've lost 12lbs in a week before on low carb diets. When do you really start noticing it drop, typically? Like when in your process did you think "hey, it's actually working?"

Honestly? You may not have this moment for several months. We stare so much at ourselves in the mirror, just waiting for those changes to flash us a neon sign saying "Here! Here look this is soooo much thinner!" but that's not really how it happens. It took a few months for me before I looked in the mirror and saw myself. And it wasn't I looked in there and said "Damn you fine!" or anything like that. In fact I looked practically deranged since I just come back from my first real run in several years. I was sweaty and gross and blotchy and covered in gnats because summer running sucks... but I really saw a difference. I was capable. That was my "aha!" moment.

There are some people who drop 30lbs, but are still in the same sizes. They drop 60lbs and have only dropped 1 pant size. There are some people who drop 15lbs and drop 2 sizes. How we hold our weight is so very different from person to person. So if your looking for each little tiny change, you may miss the bigger picture. Instead, focus on some other aspects. Could you walk further this week than last? Did those stairs kick your ass as much as yesterday? I found this to be very very motivating!

First and foremost, worry about healing first. 8 days out is far too soon to be worrying about how fast you may or may not lose. Also, literally everyone is different. No 2 people, even twins, is going to gain and lose the same way. My loss since revision, has been very steady and consistent.

Easier said than done! lol! I was just curious as to each person's patterns. I know it varies. My friend who had the sleeve is like... girl... don't even weigh yourself until at least a month or two. And my surgeon doesn't care until 1 month, either. But I'm still curious!

Oh, I get that! I lost 60lbs last year and went down ONE pants size. Absurd. I felt a lot better though, physically. (gained all that weight back however). I am still interested in the number though.

It will dramatically be affected by the type of surgery that you had. In my case I has gastric bypass and the weight loss was very dramatic. In the case of sleeve patients, their weight loss is at a much slower pace and they encounter many stalls.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

So just follow the directions from your surgeon and nutritionist and do not worry. At 8 days post-op, you are still in the healing stage.

I am in the same boat as you. Wondering if it will even work. Three weeks out and the scale has moved a pound in the last week. Lost 13 the first 5 days. We just need to patient. Not my strong suit! Keep on the Water and Protein. Trust the process! I haven't seen anybody yet say it didn't work for them at all. Regain, sure. But it does seem to work. For everyone.

I am the most impatient person in the world. I told my friend this morning that I'll be the first person ever to not lose weight from gastric bypass and that medical science will have failed me. lol. Can I just wake up and be down 40lbs already? Yep. It's going to be a looonnngg road for me. lol

I was around 4 months I think before I saw a really big difference. I went from a 26uk to a 20uk, I am now an 18, heading towards a 16 and I certainly feel a lot happier!

Lol. This is so me. And I know from lots of people on here, so many have felt the same way! Keep checking in here. It helps knowing I'm not alone and that others have felt as I do. I don't personally know anyone who's had WLS of any kind...so this resource is really valuable to me. I live too far away from my surgeon's office to go to the support group meetings they have.

35 lbs the first month. I am posting my picture to show my weight loss and time frame. No need to reply to my progress or the way I look, I know I have been successful. This is just to give people an idea of what to expect if you stick to you doctors plans and follow the rules.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
