Hi. My gastric bypass was Monday. Monday night was rough but by Tuesday I felt much better. Water has been going down no problem as long as I take my time. Today was my first day on full liquids. My protein shake was a little harder but I did it. My plan allows for no fat, low sugar, low calorie greek yogurt on the full liquid stage. I got about half of that down before I felt terrible. Very sharp pains and short of breath, I hoping walking and taking a break from any fluids will help. Think I'll wait another few days before I try greek yogurt again.

I am 2 months and 3 days post gastric bypass. It has been a very, very, long road. Still cant eat much of anything and having alot of trouble hydrating properly. At 2 wks post op I knew something wasn't right. After numerous calls, complaints and nagging, I got an egd scheduled. Turned out I had a stricture and ulcers. I had my 3rd egd yesterday and am finally cleared (with 3 meds) to begin to try "anything I think I can tolerate" I havent been able to tolerate anything but homemade broth and some ph water for the most part. Hoping this is the end of the procedures and beginning of the good part. On a positive note, I'm down over 70 lbs.

Hello everyone! I joined the site yesterday and posted in the General Discussions, but thought that I would also introduce myself here since I am working towards bypass surgery. A little about me - I am 29 years old. I was an athlete my entire life, through college. After college, I stopped working out and stopped watching what I ate, and gained almost 200 pounds in about 8 years. I finally went to a primary care doctor in August, and he thought I may have a medical issue and that's why I gained so much weight. He ordered many tests and everything came back great, he said that I am fortunate to have great genes! He recommended weight loss surgery and sent me for a co…

Hey everyone! I’m new here and getting my surgery date Wednesday. For those that have gone thru the surgery already, what are some things that you wish you would have brought to the hospital? Thanks in advance!

I got up this morning and weighed 179.6. This afternoon I weighed 182.0. I haven't eaten anything today (totally nothing). I had nasal surgery this morning to repair a deviated septum (that's why I haven't eaten yet today), they must have really pumped me full of fluids during the procedure. I have been peeing a lot since getting released and was really surprised when I stepped on the scale. I hope it goes away as fast as I gained it, I don't want to be above 180lbs. LOL

Ever since I started pre-op, my skin has been exploding with both cystic acne and whiteheads. Mostly cystic acne. I've always had a small amount on my forehead from the oil from my bangs. But it has gotten very bad and painful! What is going on? Will the hormone changes post-op make it even worse?? I have surgery in 2 days. Did anyone experience acne issues either pre or post-op? Never had it this bad for as long as I can remember.

I've been reviewing what I ate yesterday that may have contributed to my dumbing episode. The only thing that I ate differently from days past is a small dip of ketchup. Does anyone else have issues w/ condiments? Are there specific ones that I should avoid?

It’s getting close and things are getting real. Seems like I’m all of a sudden seeing more posts about post op problems! Definitely having waves of second thoughts surrounded by statements of “can I do it today”?!?! Such a life change on the horizon, and definitely freaking out when I think about the post op struggles. Is it the wrong time to do it before the holidays??? February is filled with kids and wife’s birthday, plus our anniversary. Oh yeah, looking at buying a new house. Is there ever a good time? Can I add anymore stress??? Ok rant over.

I was wondering what the stages/phases look like for different surgeons? I was not required to do a pre-op diet just clear liquids the day before. I had my bypass on Wednesday. Feeling satisfied and not hungry just my brain missing my usual snacks. I am on a liquid/puree mix this week. I can have the usuals for liquids but I can also have yogurt, FF cream soups and SF puddings. I bought isopure unflavored whey protein and add it to my decaf coffee in the morning. Then a triple 0 yogurt for snack, another decaf coffee with whey protein, 1/4 pudding with whey protein, then another shake for dinner. I’m supposed to get another snack in but by then I’m so full! I have bee…

I'm 1 week post-op and I'm doing well. The only pain is soreness around my incisions. I'm getting in all my protiens & liquids and walking everyday. My only issue is that I'm SICK of the liquid diet. Counting down the days to some mushy foods!

I have my surgery on October 30th. I can handle the life style changes but one. I don't know if I can handle having to drink 64oz of liquid/water a day for the rest of my life! I've been doing it but its so hard and I'm always in the bathroom. That's the only thing I'm worried about. I think of the future and wonder what will happen, when I'm 50 or 60... and only drink 32oz a day or less. What will happen? Will I get sick, end up in the hospital, die? Please Help

I know everyone is different. But I would like to compare. I had RNY on Sept 24. I lost 9lbs the first week, 3.4lbs the 2nd week and 3.2lbs the 3rd week. Someone I work with had RNY 6 days before me he lost 35lbs the first week. I haven't asked him what he has lost since. I don't want to get down on myself because of it. I know he was somewhere in the 350-400lb range. So of course he will lose more but what is the norm for everyone? Is 3lbs a week average? So please everyone send me your stats.

I am currently 11 months post op and sitting at 56kgs and pre op I was 102kgs. I find that no matter what I do or what I try I can’t stop the weight loss and I’m starting to feel and look unhealthy. Has any had this issue and tried any shakes or supplements to help gain a few kgs, because my food consumption is so low there is no chance of myself gaining a few kgs back that way

Just a little over 6 months since my surgery and I'm down 125lbs and there have been several weeks that I've stalled and weight loss didn't resume for 2-3 weeks. In fact, throughout the second month after surgery I actually gained 10lbs when I started eating solids. While I certainly haven't reverted back to my old eating habits, I admit I don't follow the strict protein to carb to fat ratio. I just simply don't eat as much. Dumping isn't a problem as I don't get that despite indulging in limited sugar now and then. But I've read that only around 30% of bariatric patients actually experience it anyways. I can eat pretty much anything but I haven't even tried br…

Anyone else going on the bench this day? If so when are you starting liquids and going to soft foods? I would like to find someone with a similar date- to help hold me accountable, as well as for moral support. I am going to most likely head into surgery alone as my family lives out of town- and so I am a bit nervous about it. However I know it will be a great thing.

Tomorrow I go for my two year checkup. I found some of the notes/lab reports from my emergency surgery and even though my bariatric surgeon didn't do the emergency surgery I am going to ask him questions. What a wild ride the last two years have been, I only wish that I would have gotten the surgery sooner.

Every day things are getting better and better. 55lbs down since surgery, 93lbs since starting the program. I tried doing things the exercise and dieting way, but only saw small changes over a year and a half. Now, I am noticing changes weekly from working out! This tool has been a game changer for sure! One of those changes is that I have to work out harder to burn the same amount of calories, but— it’s easier to push myself like that now. Before and after... the photos on the left were taken tonight and the photos on the right were from the night before I started the two week liquid diet before surgery.

It is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2019 with Dr. John Raheb in Denver. I can't believe I have a date, finally. It has been so long coming and it is still 3 months away but I am on his schedule!! Woo Hooo!! My husband came with me to the doc appt and it meant so much to me to have his support. He asked the doc how much time he should take off work to be home with me after surgery and the doc said "oh she'll be able to take care of herself once she leaves the hospital" and proceeded to tell him all the things I will be able to do for myself. I wanted to tell him NO... just tell him I will need my every need taken care of. I will need lots of love and words of encouragement. He sh…

Hi Guys, I am about 7 weeks out from gastric bypass surgery and I have some questions regarding how much I should be able to eat. I have been cleared to eat normal food since week 4 and since then I have been sticking to three meals a day of high protein homemade meals like chili, tilapia baked in salsa, an egg baked in lentil stew, or chicken cooked in crushed tomatoes. I had my surgery in Mexico so my aftercare from my surgeon has been essentially nonexistent even when I called early on with some issues I was having. Additionally, my health insurance here will not cover any weight loss attempts whether it's surgical or non-surgical so I can't afford to see a …

Wondering what alternative drinks people order when at a bar or restaurant if you aren't drinking alcohol. Most of the low cal options are highly carbonated e.g diet coke Non alcoholic drinks such as lemon lime and bitters or lime and soda are generally quite high in sugar and calories. Plain soda water is boring and plain water even worse.

I’ve been a lurker on this forum for a while, but have not posted yet - trying to get up my courage[emoji51][emoji15] I’m 1 week post op from RNY today, and for the post part doing very well. No more pain really, just struggling to get in all my fluids and vitamins. However, I have developed a pretty nasty rash under my chest - on the bottom of the girls and below - it’s red bumpy and very very itchy. The rash is over 1 incision, but a very small one. At first I thought it was maybe a heat rash - I didn’t wear a bra in the hospital, which was actually very warm, and woke up sweating a few times each night. But I’ve been home for 5 days now, and the rash doesn’t seem to be…

Has anyone had surgery and then you go down the line after losing weight then you just sort of fall off track? I’ve lost a lot of weight but it’s hard to keep up with going to the gym, eating healthy, and keeping up with everything in life that I do. The question is who else has had struggle keeping up with the balance? And how have you found ways around it that make it more manageable?

So I live in Australia Where we have amazing beaches, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour bridge, cute fluffy animals and lots of things that are out to kill you ( sharks, salties, snakes, spiders........) But when it comes to shopping the choices we have are far more limited than somewhere like the USA. The one thing that we have hardly any of are lo calorie water flavours. There are a few kinds of lo cal cordial which are gross and Lipton Iced Tea probably sells 2 flavours but not in powder form. Other than that Diet Lime is the only real option. When I got my band I ordered Crystal Light directly from the USA and I probably need to do the same again. Just wond…

Coping With Tight Days Pouch Days... I am seven weeks post sleeve to RNY gastric bypass revision, and All things considered, I am doing Quite well. No Hair loss or excessive tiredness (knock on wood), I am working out 1 to 2 hours a day, I have lost a total of 33 pounds, of which 20 have been since surgery day and I have started a new and healthy vegan lifestyle in which I have wonderful green smoothies for Breakfast and focus on live colorful nutrition to heal and repair my body. The one thing that I do struggle with from time to time is tight days. These are days in which I wake up, and from the moment I take my first sip of Water I say oh no... because I realize not…

Long post My surgery was scheduled for October 22, I was on my count down to my 15 day liquid diet and ready for surgery. That isn’t going to happen now for at least 3 months possibly up to a year. I had upped my exercise routine about a month ago. I had finished my last set of the day when I felt a sharp pain in my mid back left side. It kept hurting while I showered and went through my day. I took some meds and went on with life. By evening i was sure I had strained a muscle. I went back to my gym the next day, I swim, than lift weights and showed than home for a late breakfast . It started to hurt to breath but when I took a deep breath it felt like someone…

Hey guys and gals! So as of today I am 6 weeks post op. Per my Nut I can eat all foods at this point. What signs did you know you were full? I can’t tell. I am not eating a lot, it feels as though after a few bites it’s coming back up. Am I doing something wrong? I am still eating softer foods, like chicken (dark meat), tuna, eggs. I just would like for the throwing up to stop.

It's been a week after surgery and I'm having a hard time. I'm in my stage 2 full liquid diet and it consists only of clear liquid and adding protein shakes. I try eating jeloo or up but really but not interested in food at all. I'm hungry and I'm frustrated about it.

Today I’m 6 days post op and I had an AWFUL afternoon. Stomach cramping, gas, nausea for hours. Pre surgery it never occurred to me that I would feel awful and not really have a particular reason for it. I figured that just about everything but protein shakes give me diarrhea at this point but I’d been slipping in some yogurt and cream of wheat now and then. Today I had a bit of yogurt and I’m dealing not with diarrhea but all I described above. I have no clue what changed- or even if it was the yogurt. Today was the first day I went out on a long car ride and a trip to the pet store- could it be that I physically overdid it? Anyway, I really hope this clears…

I’m 4 days post op and currently not hungry but it hurts when I drink protein water and I’ve got diarrhea which may be from the milk.. I’m only drinking water at the moment because I’m to scared. What’s everyone been feeling with their pain ? I know everyone’s different but I get a sharp pain when I drink certain things right at the abdomen below my chest. Water isn’t doing it. Feeling weak and tired though. I just want to feel better and get over this scary hurdle. I’m more scared now than I was pre surgery !

I am sure someone probably posted this before- but if not- Everyone should check out the hidrate spark bottle. I have the second generation and I love this thing. It connects to a phone app, counts your amounts for you- reminds you to drink throughout the day, and even flashes at you as a visual reminder if you aren't looking at your phone. I have been trying mine since I found out I was going to have surgery and I am way ahead in the water that I used to drink. I have a link if you PM for 10 percent off- but please know that I also get a percentage off my next bottle... If you aren't looking to order online, I found mine at Target in the USA- I am not…

I have been banded for 9 years and am looking at revising to RNY. I am keen to hear how different eating is with the RNY to with a band ( not in the initial post op period) My surgeon has advised me that it is very different to having a band and that I should be able to eat a good variety of healthy foods easier than I can currently. The issues with eating with a band IMO are :- It can be very difficult to eat healthy foods Sometimes the band says no and it doesn't matter how hungry you are you just can't eat. Having to regurgitate half your meal because 1 bite went down wrong Never feeling satisfied the way one would expect but instead you h…

After getting approved for leave for work, plus my husband getting leave approved for the surgery led to a lot of anxiety if the surgery was to be postponed. At doctors today and he cleared me! currently in waiting room for pre testing. I go the 18th at 5:45 a.m., first case Welp, pretty excited! Good luck to everyone out there!
