Bypass was 2 1/2 weeks ago. MD skips purée stage and said to start soft food. So far 1/4 c cottage cheese was fine. I had an egg yesterday all was fine. I had a 90% of a scrambled egg over 20 minutes. It’s been over an hour and I have an annoying ached between my shoulder blades. Is this normal to get this delayed discomfort?

I followed the 2 weeks pre op diet and for 6 weeks post op, now at week 7 I'm eating solid food again I'm back to my old ways although no where near to the amount I had before. Is this normal?

Hi Friends. I had RNY surgery in December of 2015. I am really bummed. On Monday, I got reestablished with a bariatric office and nutritionist. When I started my weight loss journey I was 298. My lowest was 202. I've been under a lot of stress this past year and slowly gained weight. I am at 223. When I expressed my concern with the office and told them what my goal weight was and always has been. I was told that I would never be able to get to that weight. I just need the support and encouragement from someone. I would love to get to 170. I do not think 170 is unrealistic at all. Am I wrong? any tips would be greatly appreciated and accepted. …

Hi All, I m new here . I had my bypass surgery around 15 days ago, but still am sore around incision areas. Any idea how long does it take for the pain to go away completely ? I would really appreciate Any suggestions on making my recovery better. Thanks!

  5. Isn’t it really annoying when you’re at a gathering and someone says “Shouldn’t you not be eating that?” And then everyone starts talking about it and make stupid comments like “Well don’t be complaining in acouple of Years” or “what was the point of you even getting it” .... all this only because i was eating banana because my doctor has it in my meal plan that i can eat it .. everyone was saying that bananas have sugar.. but if my doctor told me I could then I can !!! It just gets me super annoyed and makes me want to go off !! But I don’t even waist my time explaining because I know what I should and should not be eating

I am 4 months post and have lost 115lbs but it seems like no matter what I do I can’t lose anymore weight. I started working out again a month ago but I can’t seem to get past 250lbs for weeks now. Any suggestions?

HI, im an ex lap-bander, and had it removed in 2015. Unsurprisingly the weight has gone on. My surgeon has offered bypass as an option for me, but after the bad lap band experience im very worried. Clearly the best thing about bypass is the weight loss...… but..... I'd be keen to hear about all your "bad" experiences just so I can work out if these things are OK for me - the bypass seems much bigger and more permanent! is there anyone who regrets having this done years later? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am 5 weeks out of surgery and having the hardest time eating!! Nothing sounds good... I have to make myself eat... my poor kids (14 and 16) May never get a home cooked meal again!! On the plus side they are learning to cook!! I know this is so new and I am sure over time things will change..

  10. Started by nursenays,

I am a little over 13 weeks out. I eat what I am supposed to, having dense protein first. I eat the required amounts only. I never, ever feel full and have zero restriction. I feel the same when I’m done eating as I did before I ate. I. feel like I can eat more but I don’t. I do not have that deep down hunger like I did prior to surgery, but I have a constant, low level hunger 24/7. Really don’t feel like I had surgery, I had zero complications with food and fluids. I had my follow up appointment two weeks ago, saw the nutritionist first, she had me increase my protein by an ounce. I waited for the surgeon and he was over an hour late seeing me and I had to leave to go to…

I tried searching the site but couldn't get a good answer. I am looking for recommendations on chewable vitamins with iron. I have been taking the Celebrate Multivitamin Complete with 36mg Iron Chewable but I can't get past the taste post op. I asked my NUT and he recommended Centrum chewables with 18 mg of iron. I found some and after I got home and opened them I realized that right above the iron it lists calcium. below is a link to the ingredients. http://labeling.pfizer.com/ShowLabeling.aspx?id=2559 During all my pre-op classes and online here, it is ingrained that iron and calcium must be taken separtely. When I questioned my NUT his response was "…

  13. Has anyone had MGB in Guadalajara Mex or Mexico? Expierence withDr. Alejandro Lopez? Did you have to have a drain to decrease infection? Was it left open or closed? This freaks me OUT!

I took my daughter shopping and we had sashimi for lunch but I had a little more soy sauce then I have done since surgery. I think that is what triggered it. Anyway 20 minutes later started feeling really rough and rushed home. OMG this is horrendous.

Hello! This post isn’t about me, but a dear friend who had bypass 11 days ago. She hasn’t lost a single pound yet and she is getting discouraged. She didn’t have any weight loss prior to her surgery since her BMI was just over 35. She has many pre-existing issues such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, heart issues, etc. She seems to be getting her protein and is following her post op diet. She is also drinking over 80 ounces of water per day. Any ideas??? Is this normal?

I made it to Onederland!!! One wk short of 6 months. 199.6 today. I still have a way to go, but its such a relief to be back in the 100s at 42 for the first time since the age of 19! Yes, I need to update my stats but I can't from my phone or tablet and am never on a PC.

  17. Started by Karen D,

I’m worried that I’m not being realistic about time off from work. I realize that it can’t be predicted because of possible complications and I can go on FMLA leave if something does happen. But I’m trying to get a handle on whether I’m going to need more than 10 days total before I go back to work. That’s what I have avail in paid time off. I have an office job, no heavy lifting, some walking around (which I think will be good for me). I’m a pretty tough cookie - not a wimp when it comes to pain or discomfort. I was back to work less than a week after laparoscopic gall bladder removal. Does that compare at all to how recover from bypass surgery might be?

Hi. I’m new to the forum. Still in the testing phase (blood work, Upper GI, etc.) - no surgery date yet. Feeling excited about the possibilities and nervous about doing the diet correctly for the rest of my life. I’m a rules girl - I love coloring between the lines - so I think I’m a little overwhelmed with the do’s and don’ts. I’ve been doing lots of research. Anyone else get paralysis by analysis?

I got sick with a bad cold last week and started having stomach spasms. At first I thought it was something I ate, disagreeing with my stomach. It kept happening though. There hasn't been much that takes the pain away, except for drinking some hot herbal tea. It's also caused me to vomit more than I would care to. A lot of times it's painful dry heaves though. I go to see the gastroenterologist on the 19th and i'm hoping they can figure things out. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi everyone! I'm Kris. I just had the surgery (gastric bypass) on February 21. I know that I'm going to need some support other than my family and friends, so here I am! So far, I'm still healing, and I'm still on the full liquid diet. It's so frustrating, since everybody and their brother posts pictures of FOOD on social media, and my fiance is back to eating real food along with the protein shakes. (He did the 2 weeks pre-op diet with me.) For the most part, he's been not eating in front of me, buuut it's a 1-bedroom apartment and I can smell/hear it. It doesn't help that he's a skinny guy.. probably 150 lbs soaking wet and ex-army to boot! I'm stil…

Hi! I'm New to this app! I have surgery scheduled for March 14th. A little nervous. I'm the first surgery of the day and hoping the Dr will be as sharp as his tools lol. I'll be starting my protein liquids diet on the 1st of the month even though they told me I didn't have to start until the 4th. I'm really excited about finding this community. I'm a very open book. I don't get offended very easily. I'm all ears and eyes right now taking in all this knowledge, experience, and points of view from the different personalities here. I'll be excited when I have something to give back to someone who is where I am now!

Has anyone had aches like shocking pains right under your belly skin in the inside of the stomach?

  24. Started by 2Bsmaller18,

So I am 5 days post op. I burped some in the hospital but never passed gas. I think my intestines just took longer to wake up. Well yesterday they rumble and today it's worse. Will it settle down? If so is it just noisy right after you eat or an hour later? I need to try and plan for it to be quiet during a meeting next week.

  25. Started by Fluffy Grandma,

I hit 169.4 today!! I’ve not been under 170 lbs since the early nineties. That was using Phen-Fen, which was banned. Since then no matter what diet I’ve done, I get to 172 and no further. I would then get discouraged and gain it all back, plus some. I’ve been bouncing around 171/172 for weeks now. Totally skipped 170 and weighed in at 169.4.!!! This makes my goal feel so much more attainable ?

A few days before my Gastric Bypass surgery I weighed in at 306. Then I did a liquid diet for 2 days and got down to 300. When I weighed myself at the hospital after surgery I was 318 !! Now back at home I am 311 but have been this weight for the last few days. Why is that? I am drinking liquids... Am I just broken now after my sleeve to bypass revision? Is this it? Starting to kind of freak out in my mind.

Well, it happened to me! A few days after surgery I noticed pain, swelling, hardness in a couple of my pet varicose veins. There was no deep pain, redness or swelling of the calf, and I was able to flex my foot fully without pain (the usual signs of DVT.) I kept exercising and used a heating pad. I started my walking activity ASAP after surgery. I was the first one in my surgical group to be out of bed and walking the hallway. By my 2 week appointment I was doing 10,000 steps a day. So this was not due to inactivity. At my 2 week appt, I told the NP about the sore veins and she ordered a Doppler ultrasound of my leg. To my great surprise, besides the superficial issu…

I am 4 months out after RNY and suddenly crave beans every day, black, pinto, refried, navy, chick pea, anything bean. WHY? My labs last month were all pretty good and I am losing regularly each week. I get at least 60 Grams of protein every day. Does anyone else go through this??

  30. Started by AZhiker,

I knew that surgery was going to be very hard, requiring discipline and a new way of eating. Wanting to give myself every chance for success, I tried to give up every addiction I could PRIOR to surgery, so that the battle would be less complex afterward. Prior to surgery I gave up sugar (my joints never felt better!), caffeine, soda, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors and flavors, processed foods, and snacking. I also started 16/8 Intermittent Fasting. I had already given up wheat/gluten several years ago, I was never a smoker. The sugar, caffeine and snacking were especially hard, but I am SOOOOO thankful I am not dealing with those now that I am only 2 we…

Just shy of 4 weeks post op....and everything has been going well so far. I'm still on soft foods and have been on plan mostly hitting my targets every day but well over 100 ounces of water daily so I am not dehydrated. Only vomitted a few times and it was mostly cuz I tried to hoover my food and well... So Saturday I carried a few grocery bags in since I was alone and put them all in one hand (probably over 5lbs) but not too heavy that i was in pain or anything. Saturday night I started with a little twinge/cramp/pain on my left side ...lower abdomen. 35. Hi there! So I was informed today that I need to be at the hospital tomorrow evening at 12noon for my surgery. However I cannot eat/drink after midnight. That's 12+ hours with no food/drink! Is this normal? What can I do to help me out? I plan to go to work tomorrow morning to stay busy, thinking that it may help keep my mind off of wanting to eat/drink however I'm thinking it may be easier to sleep through it in the morning then head to the hospital. What worked for you?

I should be in the honeymoon period after the surgery, where weight is falling off rapidly. I was doing well. Went from 265 starting to 230....and that is where I sit. I just blew out a knee and that has been a painful and limiting experience (they suspect I tore the outer ligaments on the side of my knee while squatting down to reach a lower shelf.. but am waiting for an MRI). At a time when I should be picking up my pace for exercise I'm limping all around. Stairs are hell. Up or down. I am still forcing myself to walk as much as I can tolerate and still work full time. My weight loss has come to a complete standstill. I'm angry, frustrated and impatient that I went thr…

I assume most of us had to attend nutrition and pre-surgery classes as part of this process. In our class, I think I could pick out a couple of people who are not going to be very successful. After being told that we could have neither alcohol nor carbonated drinks, one woman declared that she will NOT give up champagne. Another one said that her hectic schedule meant she had to eat fast food, and that would not change after surgery (which reminded me of "My 600-Pound Life). I'm not saying that I'm going to be a saint and never cheat, but I can't understand why you would be doing this if you were going in with the intention of cheating. Am I being too judgy?

I'm a month post op. I have started going to the gym. Could this be why I am ravenously hungry? My pouch holds way more than 4 oz comfortably. Taking 30 mins to eat 4 ounces? No way! That's impossible to fathom. Hungry=eat. I'm really freaking struggling here. I've lost the high of the pain meds. Lost the high of food which is my only true best friend I have ever had. I wanna get high!! Or get full from yummy food!! SOMETHING. I'm losing it.

  43. Started by Recidivist,

Has anyone been told that they need to keep salt and artificial sweeteners to a minimum after bypass? My partner and I disagree (I'm the one who is arguing in favor of salt and sweeteners, because they would go a long way in making food taste better.) I'd like to hear your thoughts!

I'm curious if anybody knows first hand? I have a kidney condition I've had all my life. I take serious meds span K potassium 600mg X 15/day Sodium bicarbonate 840mg X 10/day If I miss my meds for even a week my potassium levels plummets and I can be hospitalized. My condition is rare it's hard to explain but that's what I know. I'm not sure if there will be any issues with a RNY BYPASS since we're told to take vitamins and supplements anyway and mine are just real strong script only!! I know I'll have to ask surgeon when time comes in just curious if anybody had any issues before???
