    Dec 2018 surgery updates please

I had surgery on Dec. 4th, and I am doing good. I have lost 64 pounds, but the best part is the improvement to my health. My sleep apnea is gone. My blood pressure and blood sugar levels are back in the normal range. I feel better than I have in years. I spend 3 to 4 days a week at the gym taking classes or running on the treadmill. On the bad side, my sweet cravings have returned. I feel like I am constantly craving chocolate!! I try to feed the cravings with fruit or sugar free pudding, but I fail more often than not. Learning to eat healthy is by far the hardest part of this process.

Dilemma on to do or not to do

Liposuction isn't for weight loss, it's just for contouring. It sounds like you might have body image issues as you seem to be pretty concerned about how you look. You might want to think about why you're considering weight loss surgery.

I never had that problem but I remember my surgeon giving me discharge instructions saying constipation might be a problem and to use Milk of Magnesia.
  6. Thank you for the info. I figured that there are a lot more success stories out there.. that helps me make a more informed decision. Sounds like you have done wonderful. I'm thinking about the liposuction because I have the Apple shape. All my weight is in my middle and bat wing arms. My legs and thighs are fine. You do lose 10 to 12# with liposuction so I figured I might be able to lose the other 30 on my own. Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. So things were getting better than took a bad turn again. Blood levels kept dropping even though I was starting to feel better. Surgeon started getting worried so they had to take me back in and open me up again at 3am on night 2. Found 2 liters of pooled blood but no obvious source. Ended up having to do a blood transfusion, closed up some minor leaks and now hoping it turns around again.

    Weight Regain - Need advice

You should start one here. I'd join!
  10. Have you tired other things. Just curious if you asked for a referral to see a physical therapist to rule our a pinched nerve from your back or rib cage. I would suggest keeping a journal to see what you do to make the pain come on. Is it after eating, 1 hour after eating. Can you make it hurt in certain positions consistently? Any pins an needles, that would indicate a nerve issue? Do you have a blood pressure cuff to see if your pressure is high during the pain? Can you maybe see a cardiologist to rule out heart issues. They may put you on a home monitor to see if your heart beat is off. I too would guess gastro stuff but if they can't find anything maybe look at other body systems. Good luck

    Weight Regain - Need advice

As always I love kathy's @proud grammy perspective The work does not end after goal. Many of us have experienced the emotions that come along with a weight gain. Shame, guilt, depression and feeling we have failed. Self-esteem can take a big hit. This is one of the many mental battles with weight loss surgery. Recovering can be counseling or reading books on manage stress/emotional eating and self-esteem. Topics on whatever issue you are working on...Would love to see a book club because most of us have these issues in common.

You’re welcome. The best thing is to keep on top of your water and take something before you get to backed up. I learned this the hard way.

    Gained weight

I gained 10 lbs of weight in the hospital. I am sure you will be down those 5 and then some before u know it.
  20. I am traveling to Reynosa for surgery on May 3rd with Dr. Cantu. I am not so worried because I did the same trip last September for the Orbera balloon which did not work for me. I had no positive result at all from that procedure but the Dr. and his staff were amazing. The Dr. and his team brought me to and from the airport and back and forth from the hospital to the hotel. I do not speak Spanish but all of Dr. Cantu’s staff and many at the hospital spoke English. I thought the border was a bit sketchy but that is just my nerves. I felt well cared for with Dr. Cantu and his team. The supplies and tools used were very basic and not as modern as what you would commonly see here. However, everything was clean and I was not concerned In their care.

    Weight Regain - Need advice

@Vikingsfan8178 all advice above is great. many OP lose weight, then for whatever reason, start to re-gain, then feel bad, then eat more and gain more weight. Vicious cycle, most of us have been there.😒 i would suggest finding a support group. you probably will find other VETS that can encourage you, or more probably you will meet newbies, OP just starting - and they are optimistic - and that feeling is contagious - remind yourself how terrific you were/and still are - it's hard, but you can/will get back on that wagon -you remember that great feeling from before realizing/admitting to yourself you have a problem/issue is half the battle. keep reading the board, you'll get more inspiration, and hear OP struggles too. You are not alone, remind/tell yourself that you are NOT a failure we are all here to help each other☺️ good luck kathy

    The Gym...

I started slow - 10 minutes on the treadmill, 5 minutes on the bike and elliptical. This was in early February. I am now in the gym 6 days a week. 4 days pure cardio (40 mins on the treadmill; 20 mins bike; 10-15 mins on the elliptical). 3 days cardio/weights (30 minds cardio/circuit at Planet Fitness). The stress release is intense and seeing the pounds and inches melt away is amazing.

Dilemma on to do or not to do

@nssmia A thought, bmi 30 and over is obesity range, WIll lyposuction get you healthy long term or will you regain with that proceedure? I'm also concerned about all the posts recently about weight gain and revisions. Know there are many of us that bounce back from surgery with no complications and have kept the weight off. I had the sleeve in 2014. I reached goal in six months. I maintain in the 130's. Many people at goal or maintaining no longer need the support on this site.. the positive is not getting enough recognition. You will see mostly. People researching, new to wls complications, weight gain and a handful of vets that stick around I have a link of positive experiences to help balence out the other posts. It may help calm someone's anxiety. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Energy level?

I was still tired after 2 plus months out from surgery so at my 3 month post check up, my surgeon had me start taking B12 (5000 mg) daily along with the once-a-week nasal spray he prescribed. What a huge difference that made!!! I finally felt like my old self. I used the Kirkland brand from Costco that was cherry flavored. At my 6 month check up, he told me to use it every other day since my levels were high. This doesn't harm you because B12 is water soluble and you pee out any extra but why waste money.
