    Congrats on your revision. I do agree that most big celebrations are centered around a dinner, drinks and dessert historically. I don't personally have too much issue with still involving food as I either split a meal or just take home leftovers for a meal or two. (my boyfriend is a fan of my small capacity as he just gets to eat more), but I understand separating that out at this time. I would say, depending on where you are/what you are into, there should be events/activities that don't center around food. Pottery or a painting class. An art show. Museums. The zoo or aquarium. A movie (and bring your own snack). Amusement park or local fair. An escape room (those are fun). A walking tour of some kind. I'm in NYC so there are so many varieties of things to do especially now that the weather is getting warmer. I also just like to have friends over and have a game night - board games or Jackbox game on the tv. Food may be optional, just not the focus and if it's at home you can control the healthy options you need to have on hand. What type of activities are you into? Hope this gives some spark of inspiration and happy early birthday.

    are you able to go to a restaurant or other food-focused venue without feeling the need to eat beyond your limits? you are right, social events are almost always centred around food and drink..i learned early on that i enjoyed the company more than the food back during my weight loss phase (i'm 5+ years out now and i have to say i like the food just as much as the company, lol...but i digress...). if you can be around food and other eating said food without causing you angst, then i say just go to that restaurant or bar or party or whatever and enjoy your friends and loved ones. they can stuff themselves... you don't have to join in. if being around food is too much of a temptation for you, how about a hike, or a dance class/exercise class, the theatre, a spa day, afternoon at the beach, pottery/painting/kayaking/karaoke/climbing/omg the possiblities are endless! HOWEVER, i will say that even with the aforementioned activities, people are eventually gonna get hungry/thirsty and want to go somewhere or pick up something to eat, and then you are back where you are started. personally, i would push for trying to train yourself to be around food and not go to town, as its probably easier (and more realistic) to adjust yourself vs. adjusting everyone around you.. *HAPPY BIRTHDAY* in advance! hope you figure out a way to enjoy your day!!!

  5. Hey K, just resigned up to write you this post! I used to frequent this site when I was gearing up for Bariatric surgery years ago. And now I have just completed my first round of plastics where I was told I have little to no body fat. Was a great feeling! (2 more to come In the next year) But i also felt it was coming off so soooo slowly in the first month or so and really struggled with the fact I still felt hunger and I lost 97% of my excess weight In the first year. Most of that in the first 6months. I was huge.. when I started 399lbs and lost 6st pre surgery and 10st post surgery.. And have kept it off.. keep going! you will do this!! eyes on the prize.. before you know it you will be a year out those first few months feel like a slog as you just want it gone. My biggest recommendations are cut as many carbs as you can. I ate little to zero sugar, crisps and chocolate in my first year. I focused on carbs from vegetables only, very little pasta, rice etc maybe a spoonful max.. I focused on cauliflower rice, broccoli, air fried courgettes etc mainly protein.. look up the boos ridiculous brownie’s!! Protein based baked goods!! But They got me through for my sweet tooth it’s about finding compromises.. I froze sugar free jelly (orange) with sugar free angel delight (choc) on top into mini ice cube trays and would have a couple of these after dinner. and I did a lot of exercise, minimum 1hr 20mins a day walking.. 8-10k steps and on the weekend I did more and added a 40-1hr swim.. for me it gave less time to focus on food and build better habits you have got this hun keep going.. xx

    Heya! My surgery is next week, but my birthday is about 3 and a bit weeks after that, so I have been asking myself the same question! My plan is to make everything as non-centered around food as possible. I am hoping to go to an animal experience so I can pet some capybaras, and then just see my family and watch some movies or something! Don't get me wrong, it feels weird that this will be the first birthday in like 28 years where I haven't had cake, but at least I should be feeling happier for the first time in many years! Where I have lost something, I will also gain! Happy belated birthday ❤️

I am 6 months Post revision from VSG to GB, and doing great, but my birthday is friday and I am wondering from others..How do you celebrate when you don't like to go to restaurants anymore because it is a waste of money and you are off sugar? I realized this morning while getting ready to go to work, that my entire life all celebrations of any kind has revolved around food. Not that this is truly a revelation of any kind, but damn...it feels like without eating the celebrations don't happen. And that's not a great feeling! Like, if we don't go to eat for my birthday, then my family isn't creative (or supportive) enough to think of an alternative way to celebrate. What have you guys done? How do others handle this? I am truly at a loss... Thank you in advance and lets all be kind to one another... MUAH!! Sending hugs!!

  10. I'M DOWN TO 253!!!!! I started at 294. I'm so freaking geeked. I'm telling you right now I hit 205 and clothing will be optional. I hit my goal weight and I'm changing my name to Nekkid lol
  11. i had to google menieres. yikes...sounds horrible...like a bad case of dumping, all right! do you have to take meds everyday to maintain or only as needed? hope you feel better today! ❤️ ha! one man's terrible is another man's awesome! i would totally scoop out the insides of the tart and go to town...(in small bits over several hours then give the leftovers to a loved one ofc hahaha)

    Breakfast: chia seed pudding with ISO pure chocolate whey, cocoa powder, mixed berries and pumpkin seeds. Had 4 bites and got too full, will try again later. Around 339 calories for the whole thing, I estimate to have eaten around 140 calories.

I am 4.5 months out, still early but lost the weight very fast and kept changing my goal weight, here is what I noticed: - I feel cold ALL THE TIME - My butt hurts when sitting down, because all the fat is gone - My whole life being athletic, I had an hourglass figure even when overweight the past few years, now I'm linear 🤣 - I am much much weaker to the point of struggling to lift my skinny 5 year old (weighing 16 Kgs) off the ground, I can't open water bottles, jars or even the protein chips bag (which is pretty tough to crack if I say so myself) - I have this weird type of digging pain under the right side of my rib cage, feels like something used to be there and now it's hollow and it's uncomfortable, it's weird I can't even explain it - My period pains have decreased significantly and my cycles went from 35 days to 28 days, go figure Ha! - My boobs remain perky thank goodness, but can't say the same about my rear as mentioned - My hair is falling like crazy, which freaks me out because it's not something I ever experienced, even postpartum - My body hair growth has slowed down drastically - My voice is softer (it's weird but I swear it's true) If any other weird phenomenon's come to mind, I will be sure to come back

    Deciding between bypass & sleeve

    I have always had a dilemma about the sleeve, because patients can expand their stomach pouch, by poor compliance. The majority of people who have bariatric surgery experience psychological problems with their relationship with food rather than a physiological problem. Therefore, not withstanding a brain transplant, I don't think a sleeve would be successful for such individuals. I think that's one of the main reasons for revision from sleeve to bypass. With bypass, this is my own experience, you can eat as much as you want, but you don't put on the weight. I feel sleeve is suited to people who need a helping hand to lose weight but are strong enough to comply with a lifestyle diet change. Those of us who would continue to struggle with our relationship with food regardless, I think are better candidates for the bypass. The bypass comes in various strengths. There are several variations of the bariatric gastric bypass surgery, including: 1. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) 2. Mini gastric bypass (MGB) 3. Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) and While Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, mini gastric bypass, and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch are the most well-known variations, there are other less common types of gastric bypass surgeries, including: 1. Single Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (SAGB) 2. Loop Gastric Bypass 3. Sleeve Gastrectomy with Transit Bipartition

    For the food porn lovers: a rather large Portuguese custard tart. Now the story turns sour. I ate a third, then another third later in the day, gave the last third to my niece & then was violently ill. I was blaming the tart - too rich, too sweet,… This will teach me to stick to my eating. No more testing the waters. This is why you don’t go to these places. Etc., etc. Turned out it was a rather severe bout of my meniere’s. Usually I get the crazy room spinning first & if I don’t take my meds I can be sick. This time sick multiple times first then the vertigo hit. Couldn’t take my meds in fear of more vomiting. And yes it was the old, pre surgery, muscle wrenching sort. Groan! Think I will still blame the tart otherwise I’ll be back buying another one. PS. This is from one of the many artisan bakeries that have opened up in a very small radius of my house & your old Brisbane residence @ms.sss over the last few years. Terrible, terrible temptation.

    Best vitamins to take for energy

    I think it's extremely important that you religiously take all the vitamins that you were advised to take on a daily basis. Make sure you don't take calcium and iron at the same time, you need to spread them out. It's also important that you have vegetable smoothies to help you digest vitamins naturally.
  22. I've had RNY. Although leaks are very rare, I don't blame anyone who stresses or worries about this happening to them. I think a fair assumption would be that if you are 12 months out, you can rest assured that you won't experience any leaks going forward. I think 12 months is a good time for everything internally to have fused and healed. Every year thereafter, actually strengthens the fusions that have taken place to the anastomosis and stomach pouch. I think the only thing that you need to be mindful of thereafter and for the rest of your life, is the possible occurrence of a bowel obstruction.
  23. I had my RNY on 22 April. I'm also following the post op diet. It's not easy, but I remind myself that my insides have been sliced and diced so to speak, so have to go easy with things I put down my throat. The hardest thing for me is lying on my back. I imagine I'll be lying on my back for a good month. I'm too afraid to sleep on my sides any time soon. My incisions haven't completely healed. I can't wait for them to fully heal so that I can start submerging myself in the bath.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

    Hi, I'm having VSG surgery on May 15th. I'm not so much nervous but ready to have the surgery. I've read, watched videos and talked to friends who've had the surgery. Today is day one of my pre-op diet and I'm struggling. It's kicking my butt, only protein shakes, water, sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles. Is anyone else on the struggle bus? I'm bringing very little to the hospital, light robe, sandals and a little skin care. I'm most anxious about the gas pain but I've had 3 c-sections and I walked an hour after each one so I know I can do it. I'm excited to begin this journey and get healthier for myself and my family. Wishing everyone the best of luck with the pre-op, recovery and healing. We can do it!
