I'm 99% certain I have a piece of mostly chewed jerky stuck in my pouch right now. I can't keep liquids down on top of it, and there's a tightness in my chest. How do I help it pass through or come up so that I don't feel like crap?

Hi all...I had gastric bypass surgery on 4/22/19. Everything was going great up until this past Wednesday. Since then it's been non stop diarreah and nausea. I haven't really been able to eat or really drink anything but I'm trying to get as much Gatorade into me as I can. I finally got the lab tests back and I'm told I have a c diff infection. They gave me antibiotics which I'm having a very hard time taking them. I've crushed and cut in pieces and everytime I try and take them I end up gagging and bringing them back up. This is totally unbearable, I so want to feel normal again. Looking to see if anyone else has gone thru this and/or any suggestions on how to …

I am going to be getting a RNY at the end of the month and have a question for you all. I love walking my dogs, but since I have 4 I use a fanny pack to hook my dogs up to. Will there be a problem with using that maybe a week or so after surgery? I haven't been able to ask my surgeon yet. I'll probably only have the day of the surgery to ask him and I doubt I will remember with all the other things on my mind.

So, I went through a period, as some may recall, where I didn't go for 17 days. Now I take 2 Colace a day and a mag citrate pill. But then on the weekends I take a full dose of Milk of Magnesia and it seriousssslllyyy cleans me out over the next 12-24 hours. Like, disturbingly. I won't go into graphic detail. That's also the time I drop weight during the week and see the scale move. I asked my surgeon if it was okay to continue taking Milk of Mag indefinitely and he said once a week is fine and will not cause any physical reliance on laxatives. But I feel like I REALLY look forward to the weekend when I can take it because I seriously drop 2lbs afterwards, and that's pret…

I am 2 weeks post-op, and don’t see my surgeon for another week. I am having a huge aversion to liquacel. I bought cottage cheese, hummus, and chicken salad in bag (which I was told is close to puréed). What should I try first?

Hi, Tomorrow is 2 weeks post-surgery. I’m on the puréed diet and... I’m struggling. I am REALLY hungry today. I keep reading about people who don’t crave things anymore or get full after a few bites. I’m just feel so unsatisfied, like I still have a bottomless stomach. I keep thinking about all the things I’ll never eat again. I knew what I was getting into, and I felt full and uninterested in food for the first week. It was great but today I’ve just felt so hungry and I’m scared that I’ve screwed up and stretched out my pouch already. I don’t know, is this at all normal to feel after surgery? Almost like a buyers remorse? Maybe today is just an off day?

I am day 12 post-op RNY surgery. It seems most people are feeling better at this point. I was not able to tolerate protein shakes, I ended up with vomiting and diarrhea after trying several. I tolerated fine pre-op. I am using liquacel which is straight protein without any vitamins. This is now making me nauseous. I don’t see my surgeon until next Thursday. I am exhausted. I hate feeling so awful all the time. I think I made a mistake by having surgery. Any advise welcome.

Well, I'm feeling a wee bit discouraged. Had my second endoscopy today. First one was ten days ago. Surgeon said I was the worst case he had ever seen in 19 years of practice. Not a statistic I wanted to hear. They couldn't perform any stretching because of ulcerations and swelling, so he gave me a large dose of steroids and they woke me up. They want to get the opening to 11 mm, and mine is around 8 right now. They can't get the 9mm scope thru the opening. He says is repeat endoscopies don't work we will have to wait 4 months and re operate to redo the connection between my pouch and intestines.

Can someone explain why a bypass patient is more likely to develop an ulcer than a "regular" person if they smoke? I can't figure out the connection. Is it because there's no protective stomach acid anymore? I can only find the "don't smoke" mantras... but all doctors say that. Why is the predisposition higher? Yes, I will admit I've smoked about 4 packs or so since surgery. I know I'm not supposed to. And at my 6 month I told the doctor's office and they're like "you may get another ulcer" and I was feeling bitchy that day and was like "that's fine because I have leftover Carafate from my last one". I'm a stubborn ****** but I will complain when it bites me in the ass..…

I know right after surgery your supposed to eat 2oz. I’m 6 weeks out and still have to force myself to eat because I’ve only genuinely been hungry four times. I don’t wanna under eat and my body not be getting enough but I don’t want to over eat accidentally since I don’t feel hungry or full. Should I still only be eating 2oz? Somewhere in my binder I swore it said 4oz by now but I can’t find it and figured I could ask here since I can’t find it on google either.

I met 2 people this week who were long term gastric bypass patients (15-20 years out). Both had erosion/bleeding from one of the anastomosis sites and ended up in the hospital. Is this something that is very common? I sure hope not. Anyone have any data or sources for this type of complication? I would have thought once the sites were healed they would be good for life. But apparently for some folks that is not the case. Just wondering if there was a difference in how older surgeries were done compared to techniques today.

So tomorrow I’ll be four weeks post op, or we’ll one month. And the pains on my left side have gotten sorta worse so I contacted my dr who decided I should take muscle relaxers. Well they called as they were closing and just said to start taking them tonight. I forgot to ask if I should crush them or just take them whole. The pharmacist wasn’t help either nor was the on call nurse who “can’t answer questions unless it’s an emergancy”. I have an apt tomorrow and I will be asking them them about the rest of my meds like my blood pressure, anxiety, and vitamins. Do you think I can take it whole? My body just doesn’t handle crushed pills well, it results in puking it all up w…

Well I just left the doctors office, I’m feeling very emotional. I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing. They gave me handouts. But....I just feel like I don’t know what to do, how much to eat you can I have blended soups can I not.... When I drove down to the doctor I was very emotional singing some songs so I think my emotions are a little elevated today LOL

So, I'm supposed to be on "normal" foods again by now, but I'm still having issues eating over 2-3 ounces of food at a time. Additionally, some so-called "normal" food refuses to stay down because my pouch just doesn't like it yet. I was told by my nut that I need to hit 75 grams of protein a day, and unfortunately, most of the food I can keep down doesn't quite have me hitting that goal. I find myself reaching for protein shakes again and again because I know that they can and do help me get the required protein I need. I've tried making higher protein recipes, like putting protein powder in hummus to make it more protein, but maybe I'm not putting enough …

I had my bypass in 2015. No complications no issues, a perfect experience. I exercise regularly and am very active. I can eat all foods now although sometime sweet thing make my belly rumble. Everything seems great. But!! All of a sudden the past couple of weeks when I eat I feel like the food gets stuck in my chest. It is not heartburn more like the food just stops right between my breasts. The pain is so bad my heart rate goes up and I am in tears. When it first happened I though I didn’t threw enough and made myself throw up that one time to get it out. But the pain just continued. I figured because of that one time I had a bruise inside and it would take a few days …

Hey everyone I'm new here and just searching out about how any calories on average everyone is having? Back story I am nearly 1.5yrs post Bypass, have gone from 180kg down to 102.3kg, in the last 4mths I have been hospitalised with ulcers which have now cleared up and healed. I try to average about 1100 calories a day but am finding it hard to keep the weightless moving. I exercise an average of 3-4times a week. If I eat less calories I struggle and binge eat and crave. Photos are of what I eat in a day sometimes I feel like i eat way too much and have no restriction other days u can't eat much at all.

I’m 38 days post op and I wanted to share my experience so far. When I was prepping for this massive change, I relied on other folks’ experiences for guidance. I found some positive and some that made me go into surgery preparing for the worse, just because I knew it was possible. I also saw people’s negative experiences, and while it didn’t deter me, I wanted to post my very positive journey so far! Disclaimer: this is not me gloating! I know some folks have had a very difficult journey, some with far too many complications. I just want to share a story that I was looking for when going through my preop journey. I hope everyone’s path to healthiness is an affirmative one…

Bad labs, no appetite, hard to get protein shakes in...does Ensure, Boost Help? Lost too much weight and still losing. No energy, insomnia, horrible memory!! Live by myself, don't cook, too tired to shop much less cook. Would be bedridden if hadn't done so much hard water exercise last summer and most of my life, even when obese. Was only obese for 15 years. Always had compulsive behaviours, now I'm fighting anorexia. Just tried to eat a frozen Atkins meal, got 4 bites down before I thought I would gag and threw it in the trash. Can get protein shakes down. Using Premium Protein. Just realized, I'm not getting any fat In my diet. Added 2 tbsp. Safflower oil to…

Hi all! I need a general consensus on adherence to the pre-op diet. I’m on day three of just liquids, my surgery date is May 6th. The liquids bite, but it is what it is. My bff and I would really like to go out for one last sushi night on Friday and I’m wondering how much damage I’ll do if I stick to just fish and veggies? Is it worth it? Please send help!

So, I'm 5 weeks out, and due to a stricture I am only consuming water and protein shakes. Surgeon's office just called and said I could progress to full liquids, but I forgot to ask what they meant. Is that the same as purees? I'm all confused!! LOL

So it’s only been a little while out with my surgery. My date was on March 11th and I don’t think I’ve been getting enough water. At work I used to take breaks to fill up my water bottle and get in at least 2 kms of walking a day. Now that I’m not at work, I’ve been lazy and I’ve noticed that I haven’t been drinking enough water. My skin feels itchy and rash like to day, so I decided to try a mud mask. That tended to try my skin out even more. If anyone has been having this issue what have you found to be helpful for you?

I'm just 4 weeks post surgery and having loads of pouch pressure and nausea. Can no longer tolerate liquids or purees. Unfortunately they can't do an endoscopy because my pouch is still healing. Guess they have to wait 6 to 8 weeks post surgery to do an endoscopy so they sent me to have some sort of barium study. Waiting at the hospital now. Does anyone know if a stricture will show up on a barium test? What can they do for a stricture if they can't do an endoscopy? Do I just have to suffer for another month? Ugh!

Hello everyone, I'm a 42-year old male who's battled weight issues my entire life. I was always an athlete - collegiate football player and shotputter. I've lifted weights since I was a teenager. At my heaviest I was 385lbs. I managed to get it down to about 340-ish over time but my weight more or less just stayed there for years. Without getting into a long, drawn-out story here are my questions and concerns. I had gastric bypass Jan 15 of 2018. I have lost weight, but really not that much. I'm hungry ALL THE TIME. I can eat way more than I feel like I should be able to. I lost weight for the first four months or so but since then I've been gaining and losing t…

I have been drinking at least 70 oz everyday. My skins super dry my fingers are “shriveled” like when your in the bath or shower to long. My urine is usually dark except yesterday for some reason. And now when I stand I get dizzy and light headed. Like the feeling when you stand up to fast, except I’m not standing up quickly I do it slowly because of the dizziness but it still happens. I’ve tried contacting my dr and there closed. I drink two premier drinks each day totaling my protein intake to 60g. I usually drink a mixture of Pedialyte and sugar free Powerade. I even eat at least three Pedialyte Popsicles each day. I’ve checked my blood pressure and it’s 100/68 which i…

Recently at the gym I spoke with a person that had gastric sleeve surgery about 3 yrs prior. She lost a tremendous amount of weight - 275 lbs. and over time gained back 200 lbs. My question is, how does that happen if your stomach only holds 1/2 c of food. I had the roux en y procedure and if I eat one tsp more than I should then I am miserable.

I am 4 weeks post op and currently on purées. I did great the first 1 week on purées, but everything I eat now irritates my small intestine or goes right thru me. I had gastritis one week after surgery, so I’m learning my system is extra sensitive. I have tried the following: yogurt, cream of wheat, sweet potato, oatmeal (won’t do that again or mashed potatoes), tuna salad, broccoli cheddar soup. Do y’all have any ideas of what other bland foods I can try? I was doing so well, but now this. Thanks for any feedback!
