My brother came over tonight and said “it’s not too late to back out”, and like a switch flipped I started to get scared again. I was so excited about my surgery approval. But now I am second guessing myself all over again. I know a lower weight would make getting around easier and less painful, flying on airplanes will be easier, my knees and feet won’t hurt as much, I will feel more comfortable in my own skin. But the fears I have are real too... a lot of what ifs. What if I get vitamin deficiencies or horrible complications. What if I get another disease later in life and they can’t treat it bc I have malabsorption and an altered anatomy. Etc etc etc. Was anyone else a…

I am 2 and a half months post gastric bypass surgery and it seems like my stomach is rumbling and growling and gurgling constantly to the point that I am really becoming self conscious about it. It is sooooo loud and embarrassing! It doesn’t hurt and I am not hungry but it does it anyway. I just wanted to see if anyone else has this issue and if it will be like this forever or maybe tone down a little. On the up side....I feel great!!!!!

I am one year post op bypass. I had my labs done and all were good except my bariatric PA states I do not need to start iron supplementation. Based on my results, it seems like I could become deficient in the next year. I'm not in the medical field so I don't kniow. My program doesn't require I take extra iron. Here are the results: Iron 41-156 Result 58 TIBC 232-386 Result. 397 (A high reading indicates deficiency) Transferrin Saturation. 15-57 Result 15 Ferritin serum 15-150. Result 16 Can anyone explain why I don't need to start supplementation if I don't have my labs checked for another year?

I just had surgery yesterday and ouch, I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck! How is everyone feeling? I’ve been up and walking around since yesterday after my surgery and I think it’s catching up to me a bit. Is the first week the hardest?

So off and on I have extreme pain in gut, in the center below the breasts bone. I am ok when I am sitting or laying down. When I stand or move I have a sharp pain. I was having diarrhea off and on, which i got from a trip to mexico, at least that’s what I thought. Have you had something similar? what was it? anything I can do, I can’t get to doctor for a while.

So, I thought "I got this"... Smooth sailing, 1-2 pounds a week?, no problem... until this week... and it's scaring the living daylight out of me. I gained 4 pounds over the weekend. I still do my usual everyday walking, plus I re-joined the gym so that's not the problem. It's the snacking late at night... Also, my coworker is having a bday this week, and I rolled some "lumpia" (filipino eggrolls) and I have tons in my freezer, ready to just get deep fried....and I'm about to throw them all soon. I'm going to a 5 day cruise on the 4th of July too... Please, I need some encouragement, some strong words, prayers, uplifting quotes...anything. Thanks...

So I’m almost three months out. We used protection so please don’t tell me I should’ve used it. I’m just really scared tbh. I just want your guys opinion on this test. I feel like/hope it’s a false positive but I don’t know it looks like it could be colorless but then it looks like it might have color. Please no negative energy I’m already freaking out. Before surgery we tried for four years had several losses due to weight and medical issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. Then we stopped so I could get surgery my biggest fear was getting pregnant before I got the surgery. Then it was getting pregnant to soon after surgery. Because it seems like when you don’t wan…

I apologize if this is too much information, but I need to figure out how to end this horrible constipation I'm experiencing. I'm in my 5th week after gastric bypass and I'm just starting small amounts of food. I am not taking any pain meds, nor have I after day 3 of the surgery, but I am taking all my vitamins, which includes Bariatric Advantage soft chew multivitamins (2 a day) and Celebrate's Iron + C and Calcium Citrate softchews (1 each per day). I drink two Premier Protein drinks and day (60 grams of protein total) and approximately drink 60 ounces of water. The foods I have been eating are unsweetened applesauce, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes. It takes fo…

What’s everyone’s story with hair loss? When post op did it happen?

I have chronic illness that always tends to complete things, if there is a side effect to be had from a medication- I get it. Same for surgery. But it was either take the risk to fight to lose weight against metabolic disorders amongst other things, or give up. I had RNY April 29th and I haven’t progressed to soft foods without getting sick. I’m not ver good at tracking time passing. 2 weeks liquids got extended, and I’m probably supposed to be getting past purée. I was in hospital 3 days post op. I finally got home and ended up in the ER and in hospital another 3 days due to aspiration pneumonia (plus acute uti, and critically low potassium) they did a swallow stud…

Ive been looking more closely at how much I should be eating for each "meal" directly after surgery and Im wondering if Ive been eating too much. I really dont want to stretch my pouch unknowingly. So far after the first week, Ive been able to eat about a third to half a cup. There has been no throwing up and ive only had hiccups a few times. How can I tell if Im overeating when I cant really feel my pouch yet? What do you all think?

I would love to see some amazing before and afters or even the in the middles. This has been an amazing process and even with the bumps and bruises I would not change any of it!!! My lowest weight was 159 I stay between 159 and 165 which as a woman is kind of spot on which is something to celebrate all by itself.

212 days post op and I’m finally able to drink water again today without any flavoring! Before bypass i loved drinking water but after it all tasted like toilet water....not that I know but that’s what I imagined. Hopefully it continues. Heck of a journey so far. 98 pounds down post op today. I’ll be at that magical 100 very soon!

Hello, I'm new to this. Today I had a consult with my doc. He told me I was a candidate for either gastric bypass or sleeve. In you guys opinion what do you recommend?
-
Dr. Paul is an exceptional surgeon. I had hernia surgery and gastric sleeve 2 years ago and he really cares about his patients. Now I’m headed for gastric bypass not for weight ( I already lost and kept off 100 lbs) I have other medical issues that makes me need gastric bypass to save my esophagus and fix another hernia. He is always my choice!

I was in the hospital for 11 days with malnutrition status post RNY 6 weeks ago. I have an ulcer, and a stricture. I have TPN running all night at my home. I can finally start eating things that are soft. Any recommendations? I am so sick of yogurt, eggs and soups. Any good crockpot recipes that people tolerated well? I would appreciate all suggestions! This has not been an easy road for me.

So we’ve all been warned about dumping syndrome from too much sugar. What I wasn’t warned about was bile diarrhea if I don’t eat enough. Anyone suffering with me? I truly forget to eat because I don’t get hungry and then I get 2 weeks of nonstop green bile diarrhea because I don’t eat enough. I think it’s partially because I have no gallbladder but this is very new to me and awful!

I have embraced the stall but I feel like I have had so many and I’m just over two months out. I don’t know if maybe I’m loosing the weight quickly so my body is taking lots of “breaks” or what. I rarely eat because it’s so hard to force myself to do so. If I do it’s two eggs With cheese and maybe something with meat for dinner like pork, chicken, fish, and so on (very rarely do I eat lunch I mainly do if I don’t eat breakfast) I just started getting to where I take all my Vitamins (they would make me so sick that I would almost instantly throw it back up it still makes me sick but I’ve found out how to take it to where it doesn’t come back up I also would always forge…

Hi everyone. I had my r n y on May 22nd and was discharged the very next day. Everything was going well just the minimum pulling at the incision sites and soreness. About two weeks after surgery I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain in my stomach and then began throwing up it scared me so bad because I was so worried about tearing something inside and my doctor is in San Antonio Texas miles away from here in Mississippi. I was just at the point of soft foods and was tolerating scrambled eggs and refried beans and yogurt. But slowly I am now not able to tolerate anything but liquids. I get this ball feeling in my chest like something is stuck a rock and it …

I think I posted something Saturday evening but honestly most of my stay was a blur. My surgery was on 6/12/19- @ 08:00 am- I was discharged home from the hospital yesterday in the evening. I don’t want to bore you all repeating what I most likely posted but I just cannot find it ? my BP dropped I remember the room spinning and I felt drenched in sweat. I had two blood transfusions over 2 days, I have seen so many posts/videos of people @ 5,6 days post op and they are dancing and laughing. Y’all I feel like I got hit by a truck and today I feel worse than yesterday. Well thank you for letting me vent and I really do sound like a big baby ? I just realized as I am typi…

Hello everyone, from what i have seen so far this is a great forum with awesome people offering great advice I had gastric by-pass at the end of April 2019 and have been through the Liquid, Pureed, and Soft food diets (Still on Softwood until i see my surgeon again), i have had an issue twice so far with food getting stuck, once was with steamed fish and another time with Risotto. I chewed my food really well but it still happened those two times and i find it really tender to swallow anything for a few days after it, I know the opening if narrow at the moment but is this because i am am healing or is this the way it is going to be for every?

I had rny 3/23/19 and on 3/25/19 ended up having emergency surgery for am intestinal blockage and internal bleeding. I spent 1 week in CCU with plasma infusions, and blood infusions. I'm 3 months out now and I'm ALWAYS afraid! I suffer severe anxiety that there is something wrong with me. I'm crying alot. I have issues sometimes with eating food and I think it's a complication I am afraid of what I've done to myself I'm always like "What if?" I went to a therapist and my Dr. and I was given Wellbutrin but I'm afraid to take that because I don't know what it will do to my pouch. I have no one in my life that has had this surgery that can tell me everything will be okay. An…

I’m so confused and can change my mind as late as going into the operating room so as much info from everyone will help me make that decision Thank you

I learned from someone who had surgery before me that Biotin helps with hair loss. I am currently on the post-op liquid phase (second week) and I am taking 2 chewable Jamison multi vitamins, a B12 strip every other day, and a French caramel calcium chew 3X a day. So my question is, when can I start taking this vitamin, and also is it hard to digest?

So, one thing I don't really understand much of is what's actually going on when we stall. Per calculations, at my weight, my resting BMR is something on the order of 2900 kcal per day. I'm eating about 6-900 kcal a day. Logically, I should be losing weight this whole time, but I stall or even fluctuate in an upward direction at times. I'm walking a bit, perhaps not as much as I should, and I'm swimming, again perhaps not as much as I should. But if it's just calories in vs calories out... that's a deficit of close to 2000 calories. I should be losing about 4 lbs a week. I'm hitting my protein goals, my water goals, and I'm getting my vitamins in. Wh…

Hello, everyone. I'm new here and just starting the WLS journey. I am curious if anyone here has had the gastric bypass surgery for anything other than weight loss? I have a chronic condition called Gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach) and it has turned my life upside down. I won't go into the details or symptoms (cause there's a lot), but suffice it to say it is pretty awful, greatly affected motility and slowly killing me. I am also overweight, just shy of the 40 BMI mark. Weight loss would be an added bonus, but not my sole reason for looking into this. My PCP wanted me to speak to a bariatric surgeon to see if a bypass would help since it bypasses the paralyz…
