Hi there I'm just a little curious if people actually used chewables in the first weeks or months postop? My dietitian has mentioned it as a good idea to use for the first month at least? Also I've been told the most important vitamins to take are calcium citrate and vitamin D but also K2 may be good?? I know there are others like B12 but My surgeon said it can vary by person and on your post op blood work. Currently my vitamin levels are fine preop. Would like first hand knowledge plz???

Has anyone stretched out there pouch? If so, what did you do to get back so you're feeling full with smaller portions?

I fear that i won't wake up after surgery. I fear that I will fail. I fear that I'll slack off on taking vitamins daily. I fear that i will have complications. I'm not a risk taker like others. I like to know what im getting into, the outcome and with wls there's no way you can know. What if i fall in the 1% who got worse after surgery? Even death. And on the other hand maybe I'll be successful with no complications ever. I'm scared of the unknown.

My pain increased through the night and I am having trouble drawing a breath. Called the Surgeons office and when his PA comes in they said they will likely send me for a chest ct and an esaugagram today. They said I had an abscess at my follow up appointment. Anyway the good news is I am below 200 now, so celebrating that!

Hi everyone, I just want to say this has been quite the amazing journey thus far. December 18th 2018 I went into my surgery at 285 pounds. 8 1/2 months ago was the biggest decision and biggest step I ever took towards changing my life. For the past 8 years I was a very happy and unhealthy person. Gradually becoming more and more obese by the day. I truly thank my family to opening up my eyes as to how unhappy and unhealthy I was. I first went into my doctors office at a very unhappy and unhealthy 304 pounds. My pre-op diet of protein shakes for 2 weeks helped me get down to 285 just in time for my surgery. I am now today 167 pounds as of this morning. I have not been…

Feeling great. Starting the final count down 4 weeks; 28 days ill be having surgery 10/28. Been working hard on my own diet the past 5 weeks cut out all sugar and carbs and junk food. Started shakes and high protein low carb lifestyle. Drinking plenty of fluids, living off tuna and veggies mostly. Just started using my exercise bike to help. Surgeon was very happy that I lost 40lbs in the first 4 weeks currently 279 highest 322 aiming for 185-200lbs. I'm feeling very positive about the future. It is a challenge to keep focused and to be strict on myself but I remind myself everyday to keep my eye on the prize!!! I'm forever gratefu…

  10. For a couple of years now there have been reports of the danger of heartburn drugs/PPI blockers like zantac that are commonly used to help with the side effects of gastric surgery. Today Canada officially recalled these drugs due to their link to cancer. Personally, I am completely dependent on these drugs due to the acid reflux side effect of my gastric sleeve. If you use these prescriptions daily, I strongly urge you to contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. https://healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/hc-sc/2019/70989a-eng.php?utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=77363999&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-8zLyVDfQD8I8hCu3-XeY7F…

For anyone who has Kaiser insurance in northern CA - my surgeon is requiring weight loss before surgery. The office tells you to call when you are about 5 lbs to goal so they can start pre-op reviews and then schedule. I'm curious what all the pre-op reviews include (I know it includes a psych review but not what else) and how long from when you hit your 5lbs to goal until your actual surgery. I'm really hoping to have surgery in early December since it's a quieter time at work, but I likely won't hit my 5 lbs to goal until mid-October at the earliest. Thanks for sharing! Lori

Due to gout problems that are genetic, (Not diet related), my surgeon wants to do VSG instead of RNY because of the malabsorption and he believes my gout could become worse after RNY. So I guess I have a lot of reading to do as I have been researching RNY non stop. I’m glad they didn’t cancel or delay my surgery. I was worried because i had to go on prednisone again due to a very bad gout attack. So my date is still 10/15 and my diet starts on Tuesday. I hope all my RNY friends the best and I’ll still be around... Be well!

Hi all, I'm new here but have been following along for a few weeks now. I'm 3 weeks post op from my RNY. Started the pureed diet yesterday and have done well so far. Had cream of wheat, chili, and soup yesterday. Had chili so far today. Didn't get in my liquid intake yesterday but I'm trying today. I feel like now that I'm a few weeks removed from surgery and hitting the pureed stage that I'm not really sure where to go from here with my recovery. I'll obviously keep taking my vitamins/supplements, have a 5 week post op appointment on October 9th, start my full food diet then as well. I guess I just feel kinda lost otherwise as to how to move forward with the rest of my l…

Hello!! I am 2 weeks post op and I am having a bout with acid reflux. I chose the bypass to avoid this. I am hoping that it is only temporary.. If anyone can offer some advice, please do. By the way, I was placed on liquids when this horrific reflux occurred. I suffered with reflux before I had the surgery but the reflux had improved tremendously pre surgery. Thank you.

  18. I had my MGB on July 15 , and recovery went well for a while , first 4 weeks were solid free weeks , i introduced solids slowly after Steaks and burgers give me a very hard time so i stayed away from them. By hard time i mean stabbing and colic pain in my stomach right above the umbilicus and to the left I am now getting the same severe colic pain on a daily basis despite being careful with the solids , only soups , salads , and chicken , no meat I also get severe pains if i stay a long time without eating , especially in the morning if i dont eat breakfast right after waking up I do take some gasix , and some gaviscon , it helps a bit but not much I am…

Hey guys just getting closer to surgery and few small questions. I know they may have been asked similar before. My surgeon last time we spoke said might need like 5 days in hospital for the RNY BYPASS surgery? He says it's very serious surgery and I haven't had any surgery since a teenager and he wants to be double sure I'm right to go home look after myself as I live alone. I've never heard of anyone on this site doing that many days? Some ppl talk about 1 night only or even out patient surgery? I think it may also be that I live about 2.5hrs from the hospital maybe? I'll be seeing surgeon in a week to ask more questions :) just thought I'd see…

  20. OK, like a light switch, I went from stage 3 to liquids again last week. It's OK I mean I am back to protein shakes and all that but I just feel as though I won't ever be able to get anything down, any time I try anything remotely solid, I feel full, then burps, hiccups and then it has to come out. Dr said this is a stage where swelling is apparent and keep pushing but I just don't know what to think. Yesterday I had some vegetable soup and even than came back up, well the small amount of soft carrots, etc. Tell me this is "normal" and it gets better? As ridiculous as it sounds, one of my big fears is Christmas, I have to, MUST attend this fancy dinner where I wi…

Hello, I’m in the pre surgery stage and I have some very big concerns. First some background. I have treatment resistant depression, which means the psychiatric medication works less or not at all for me. I have to take high doses to get any results at all. I’m disabled by my depression permanently as it can not be well controlled consistently. The only thing that has helped consistently was electroconvulsive therapy, which they no longer will do because of my weight causing breathing problems during the procedure. My concern is that getting the surgery will make my depression even harder to treat because of malabsorption. I have kaiser so they don’t cover the…

So I worked out finally today it is dairy giving me abdo pain and wind/gas. So unimpressed. I had maybe 100ml of skimmed milk after not having any for 2 days so I could see what would happen and man, hard bloated upper stomach and pain since about half an hour after the milk. I'm annoyed because I am struggling with food options as it is, and I love cheese. I can't catch a break at the moment, so much crappy stuff going on and I just want to be healed, pain-free and getting on with life. Hi I feel like crying... today I had my first experience with blockage of food in my esophagus. It felt like I was about to have a heart attack or something , I was on the verge of passing out. Stupid me thinking I would push it down with some yogurt since you can’t drink.. I made it worse. My heart was palpating really fast , I was getting dizzy , I was shaking on my feet until I put a finger in my mouth and vomit most of it out... what came out was a weird thick slimey substance I had left over tilapia fish from yesterday which was dry. I knew before hand it would be a risk of me eating it cuz of the dryness but here I am , still eating it. 2 bites and …

This kind of goes along with my post about low protein. More lab results came back today, and I am also deficient in vitamin A. I am waiting to hear from the surgeon about this, but imagine I will need a prescription vitamin A supplement. Any one else deficient in vitamin A? I do take a high quality bariatric multivitamin twice a day.

I'm having trouble tolerating liguids and I don't want to get dehydrated. Even when I sip slowly I have terrible pressure in my pouch and throat. Any tips to make this easier until I have my dilation procedure? Thanks.

My surgery is coming up and I'm scared because if I'm having trouble two preop how am I going to take all those vitamins postop. If you have nothing helpful to say or rude comments don't bother comment on my post. Thanks for reading.

I have lost 33lbs since my surgery date July 31, and I went to see my Dr at Rocky mountain physicians in SLC Utah and my Dr discovered that I have a blockage and so I've been receiving infusions and wed 4th of sep I'll be going to LDS hospital to get a scope and I hope I won't be back into the hospital. I can't eat anything other than liquids I tried last night and I vomited because it would not go down so I decided to have soup from now on and a protein shack but my Dr says not to drink your protein to eat your protein but he said it's ok in my case because I need the protein. My current weight is 340 and in the office I was 347 [emoji39] Be Happy!

  34. Ok, so I can't figure out if I should go to the ER or suck it up til morning and call my surgeon. I am pretty sure I wolfed down some chicken without chewing thoroughly and it has been 2.5 hours. I can't keep liquids down, I'm in so much pain, and keep spitting up foam. What should I do to get through the night? Things are not getting better!

I had labs drawn today to check my levels, but I have missed vitamins every day for a week before that. ? What are you taking that's gentler? Anyone suffer with intense nausea from vitamins?

So I went to my first appointment with my surgeon on the 10th of this month and it went very well, I am on my way! I was all set on a sleeve, but he is saying I should get a bypass. He said type 2 diabetics are more successful in getting off meds with the bypass. He also said I should do a bypass because I have 180lbs to lose (it's hard to admit to that!) I had decided on a sleeve because of absorption issues--I take a ton of supplements I want to continue to absorb. And because it seems less invasive. To me the bypass looks scary! That may be silly, I'm sure it is silly, but I'm posting in the hopes that people can tell me good things about the bypass that…

Either way, I don't know what I ate but HOLY CRAP. My stomach burns like FIRE. Like "YOU HAVE AN ULCER IMMEDIATELY" fire. I did eat too much, I know, but eating too much has never made me feel like this! It actually burns so so bad! I took some Pepcid and some mystery gas medicine a coworker gave me. Please pray. lol. I am 7 months post RNY. I have had a piece of bread once and graham crackers multiple times. I thought no big deal lets try oatmeal. I made it with water and added a little ground flax seed. After a few bites I felt full so I stopped eating. A few hours later I was miserable and 4 hours later finally vomited it up. I felt better then worse and had a second episode. I don't know if it was just stuck or what but I don't think I will ever eat oatmeal again. Today I have had only water and about half of a premier shake. It is so frustrating to feel like you take a step back.

I am a few days from a month out, things are going well, I am getting my water and protein. My provider has me moving to full diet this week. I have been so conflicted on what to eat and do, so many opinions. So I have really just started trying things to see what happens, nothing bad of course but I have tried salad and lunchmeats. Spicy things for some flavor. I just don't know if I am doing wrong or not. I have been assuming if I don't dump or have pain, I should be ok. I have vomited once after eating some turkey a bit too fast, otherwise though, I feel good. Is that enough? Is my body going to tell me if I have done wrong?
