I’m 8 weeks post op and down 60lbs . I’ve been walking since before surgery but I want to start lifting. I mentioned it to my surgeon and he was hesitant with the green light. I feel fine. Just thought id ask and see what your surgeon may have recommended. thanks so much!

  3. Started by JTSC,

In the first year, when do you notice your weight loss slow down / stall? So far so good but I keep thinking it’s going to flatten out. It’s already starting. Kind of neat seeing the surgery peak. I guess that was IVs.

I'm about a month post OP. I have been having random pains throughout my chest and abdomen the past week or so. It is like a stabbing pain and goes away very fast. Maybe 15 seconds or so. It is not just in the abdomen. I get it in chest and shoulders as well. I plan to bring this up next appointment, but was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this.

  5. 10 days post-op and I'm still hungry. I can't eat the amount I used to eat before, not that i've tried either, but omg I'm starving all the time! i this normal? ps: I'm still in my liquid diet

I need some advice from all of you post-op people who are more than 5 months out. (Oddly enough) I still like my meal replacement shakes (especially for breakfast and fast food alternatives) and usually water them down in order to cut the sweetness. So im drinking about 24 oz over maybe a 30-60 mins. Is this too much? Could I be causing problems for my pouch without knowing it?

OMIGOODNESS!! I am soo sick! I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Here we are, 3 months post op and I am still fighting nausea. I am scheduled to have another EGD on january 7th. Im not getting in my protein, lucky if even get 30 grams in a day. Have zofran, take max doses and it isnt helping. At my whits end. Can anyone else suggest things to try? Foods that may help... ill try anything!!

Hi everyone first time poster here. I come out of surgery last Saturday, so I am on day six. I am feeling a little worse for ware today. I got a nasty running-stitch just above where you would normally get a stitch just under my bottom rib. I called the doc and she said it’s gas pain. Never felt gas in this way so just a bit questionable. also feeing like I got acid reflux in my throat, this is without eating or drinking - for example I woke up all through the night and this morning feeling the same way. So not sure why I am getting that also. You people are the ONLY people o have told that I have had this done, no family or friends know about this either as …

Hi everyone. I had my bypass operation on Dec. 12, 4 days ago. Everything is going pretty much better than expected -- soreness is manageable and diminishing, no problem drinking everything I need to drink or taking all of my pills, etc. But here's my weird issue -- as of today, I have GAINED 9 POUNDS on the scale since the morning before my surgery. I figured it was just post-surgery fluid retention, or getting loaded up with IV fluids while in the hospital, but my doctor's office seems absolutely stumped. Has anyone else had an experience like this? If you have, when will it go away?

I had my surgery don back in 2007 by Dr. Snow in mobile Alabama and had to have Dr. Weinstein correct some mistakes that snow made has anyone else had any problems at mobile infirmary or with these Doctors?

  12. Is anyone else locking at a dec/ Jan surgery date who wants to be friends and support each other.

  13. Started by Lynda486,

I drank only shakes yesterday (3) and drank 86 oz of water and this morning I seemed to have broken my stall. I am down 2.5 pounds from yesterday morning and now my BMI is 29.2, in the overweight category, yay!

  14. So, I had pureed food today. I've been doing amazing on my liquid. I feel about 98% right now after surgery no real pain. However I ate a cup of pureed food and it scares me. No pain, no gas, I waited 30second in between bites. I waited 30mins before water. I feel like a GD failure having ate that much. I had 1/4 cup if pureed food the last two meals. I don't know why i risked eating a full cup. i risked hurting my tummy.

  15. So, I had my surgey and the only thing that ever hurt was that awful leakage tube. That being said I stopped narcotics 4 days after surgery (turns out i was allergic to my hydrocodone anyway.) Took liquid tylenol at night to help with the slight pains here and there. Anyway I can't feel anything going on in my stomach. Is that normal? No full, no gas (except farting and burping, and no pain. I previously posted about eating 8oz of puree with no issues found out it may be to cut nerve endings and soon I'll def feel something so dumb. I learned my lesson 1/4 cup only!!! I'm doing well my Fitbit finally showed up today and I'm excited to track all my steps again. Still get t…

Hello All, This has been a long streesful road but it’s almost over. I had a few insurance issues but thats over. I previously had a high deductible plan with Blue Care network Michigan to be exact $6700 and starting jan would go up to $6850 and my surgery is planned for Jan 28th and there is no way i would be able to meet my deductible by my surgery date meaning I would have to come out of pocket half of my deductible up front to the surgeon and who knows what else. Well since its open enrollment i chose another plan with a lower deductible of $600 only difference is i have A Coinsurance of 50% and before I had No Coinsurance. Other than that everything is great al…

Im wondering what preworkout foods are good to eat before hitting the gym? I went today and my muscles acted like they werent ready? and my weightlifting was slow to increase today so im thinking more carbs ? or do i need more protein beforehand? i know carbs are the energy source

  19. Started by Ellf,

Is it normal to stall for three or more weeks at around the eight month mark? I was 360.8 the day of surgery and I am down to between 244 and 248 now. (I've been fluctuating between these weights for the past three weeks). I'm going to be re-introducing swimming in addition to my walking, but the stall still is starting to worry me.

  20. Started by DeadSpaceGrave,

Ok so i was thinking of making myself a healthy meat wrap with butter lettuce, easy melt cheese, and black Forrest Ham. I then made the wrap out of 1 tortilla and i was only able to eat half taking my time with chewing good. I felt better eating this tortilla wrap than with the sandwhich i had the other day . I guess its because its thinner? I have also heard of other substitutes you can buy that are egg related bread wraps? or do you have one you recommend for me to buy somewhere? I feel pretty great after eating it and i did alot of yard work cleaning up garden beds today . thanks, and im finally out of this plateau. I guess i needed some carbs to kick …

I am struggling big time with trying to get down any liquids and food. I stay so nauseated it’s ridiculous. The thought of food makes me sick. I can’t even eat jello anymore it’s like my taste buds are on strike. I sip tiny amounts of liquid and sometimes gag. Seems like the only food I can tolerate on occasion are my refried beans, peanut butter on crisp toast otherwise I don’t eat because of the sickness. Geez Louise I’ve had more issues with this surgery than a little bit and I’m 19 days post-op. Anyone else have/had this issue?

Ok I have only shed some hair, I'm 2 months post op, and I have notice my hair feels dry and coarse? Also my skin always itches and I think it's because of dry skin ? Anybody else?

I'm hoping someone can help me out with some suggestions please. I had a gastric bypass 14 weeks ago which didn't go to plan and I had to have emergency surgery to repair my insides. I was left with a drain in for 6 week, which left me having to take antibiotics because it was leaking infection. Once the drain was removed I thought great I can start my new life. Unfortunately it hasn't turned out that way, as soon as I start to eat I feel sick, I go through the motions but nothing comes out this lasts between 5 minutes and 5 hours, I have even got anti sickness tablets which haven't helped I feel and look like an old woman even though I'm only 52 because of this. I hate l…

  26. Started by JTSC,

Not sure why but took a bite of a string cheese thinking I could chew it up good enough. I’m still in purée stage. It did not end well. Hoping it goes thru all those small holes. I was feeling a little cocky up until then.

I had the RNY gastric bypass with Pompeii back on 10/16/19, and im trying out a tiny sandwhich and i took only 2 decent bites and now im full. Has anybody ever tried bread? also my weight loss has slowed , i started at 252lbs and now im 215lbs. does anybody know why it drags down to a snail pace with weight loss?

Hi . Can everyone tell me if we’re safe to take Fybogel at 4 months post op? I’ve tried looking it up online , but can’t find anything .

  29. I decided to start a topic because I tested eating out for the second time. My mom and three of her friends wanted to go to Ichiban buffet. I’d been there before my surgery. I asked if they could mention to the server before they bring the check before we started eating to mention my card, that I had gastric bypass and request a child’s menu. It was overwhelming when I first got there so I couldn’t when I’m sensory overload. No one wanted to just ask. I dropped the issue. I wanted to test myself eating out. I still need soft foods, easy to eat things but I did a test for myself. To try. It was a Japanese buffet so they had some sashimi and they had nice cooked fish and sh…

Will peanut butter get stuck in your pouch after rny? I know a stupid question I’ve been scared since surgery(March 20,2019) to try to eat it and just melted some and licked the spoon then dipped a part of a banana in it and ate it it was to sticky for my mouth so I decided to drizzle it on the banana but now I’m sitting here wondering if it’s even possible for peanut butter to get stuck in your pouch after surgery.

  32. I'm waiting to hear from my doctor, but was wondering if anyone has has very high serum levels of vitamin B12 and Folate, and if that might mean my body is not absorbing tham? Reading on the Internet there are some scary reasons for high B12, but I'm hoping it is circulating in my blood because my body can't utilize it. Thank you!

Just feeling a little down. And I knew this stall would be coming, my nutritionist warned me and I’ve seen stuff about it all over Facebook. I’m about 3.5 months out from surgery and have been stalled for almost 2 weeks. It’s so frustrating. I keep food journal diligently and I meet protein and fluid goals (the vast majority of the time). My nutritionist recommended upping calories to 1100-1200 but I’m scared! I’ve gotten to 1100 a few days over the past couple of weeks, but mostly still in the 900 range. I’m already a slow loser so the stall just makes it feel like I will never get the weight off. I just want to get into the 220s so bad!! I’ve been at 232 for 2…

  34. I’m 8 weeks post op bypass and I’m still not able to eat ANYTHING! I constantly feel so bloated and nauseous that everything makes me gag and I can’t swallow it. I can only manage sips of water and Ice poles. Went to hospital at 3 weeks and was basically told to try harder. I feel like I’ll die quicker from malnutrition than I would have obesity so what was the point? May aswell have stayed fat! Anyone else out there that was at this point at 8 weeks and did it get any better?

  35. I'm in a 39 BMI and I just wanted to know if it was possible to reach a normal BMI after weightloss surgery. If you have, in what BMI did you start off on?

  36. Started by mediocreoblongata,

My surgery, GB RNY, was 10/24/19 and I am dealing with so much depression and anxiety now. My hormones are just so out of whack! All day I haven’t been able to stop crying. I had an appointment scheduled with my nutritionist today for which I had to take the whole day off of work for because it’s 3 hours away. Got a call from them 15 minutes before leaving that they are canceling the appointment and want me to come in next Thursday instead. Here’s the thing, I don’t have enough PTO from work now because of all the time I took off for work and today. I was supposed to be advanced from puréed food to soft today, I confirmed they do not want me to advance my diet until I’m …

  39. Started by PudgeBeGone,

I had surgery March 27,2019. I didn’t experience a lot of hair loss I noticed there was a little more when I would wash my hair but nbd. Now I’m 8months out(approx not to sure exactly didn’t wanna do the exact math) and my hair is noticeably thinner I eat and drink my daily protein and take all my vitamins everyday. So I don’t know why I’m now loosing hair. Has anyone found anything that helped hair loss? Any products or shampoo/conditioner sets to help regrow/lengthen/thicken hair? Any help is appreciated. First photo is when I was 300+lbs second was yesterday. It looks worse in person the photo doesn’t really do it justice.

I ended up being rushed to the ER by ambulance due to sever pain CT scan was done and they found small pockets of blockage in my intestines and diagnosed me with illeus including inflammation in my intestines. I haven’t had a BM since the day before surgery. ER docs felt I needed to be admitted for pain control and further testing on the blockage, but my surgeon said no. I came home pain is still there, but developed bladder spasms this past Saturday and those contractions are worser than all my pain combined. I see my doctor tomorrow to discuss with him my options and what’s next. From day to day I’m struggling getting in liquids and my purées. Anyone have all these exce…

I had gastric bypass 13 months ago. Food doesn't taste the same and it doesn't taste good. I don't like any kind of meat anymore. I feel like I'm just existing and not living. I live on soup mainly. I don't know what to do anymore. My Dr said I just need to eat meat. I am still losing weight and I'm beginning to look anorexic. Has anyone had this problem with food, not liking the taste anymore?

  44. Hello! My first post... BRAND NEW here! Hi! I'm (almost) 48 and went in for my surgery back in September of this year. They put me to sleep, woke me up, and said "we can't operate. You have a large mass in your stomach." WHAT??! Long story short, they referred me to OBGYN and I found out I have a cantaloupe-sized cyst parked on top of my good-for-nothing uterus. The OBGYN said she would consult with the bariatric surgeon and if her surgery is without any complications, they could both operate on the same day. She will be the lead surgeon, as the hysterectomy takes precedence, and if there are no adhesions/nothing unexpected, the bariatric surgeon will begin his…

successful surgery, malabsorption has always been a manageable issue, tertiary swallows are now out of synch, and over the past 45 days having problem in keeping some food or liquid down, liquids will pour out if I lean over to tie my shoes, vitamin tabs are not staying down, iron anemia (ferritin) and D3 are low often as is magnesium. I fear my inability to eat will make all vital nutrient levels fall. Could it be the flap in the esophagus is not doing its job?
