For the past couple of weeks, life felt unbearable due to a 2 inch stomach ulcer. I stayed in the hospital for 6 days because of it. After being discharged from the hospital, I was still in pain and the vomiting didn't let up either. None of the medicines they gave me on discharge worked. Went to see the gastroenterologist yesterday and was informed that I have sludge in my gallbladder and that it was primarily the cause of the ulcer developing. I never knew, until yesterday that could happen. So my gastroenterologist recommended that my gallbladder be removed, because that will be the most beneficial way to eliminate the ulcer problem so that the ulcer can heal. Now I ju…

I am having a RNY on March 10th. I have a very large diastasis recti from my pregnancies that contributes to back pain. I will ask my surgeon as well but has anyone else worn a mild compression garment immediately after surgery? If so, is it generally well tolerated?

Hello everyone. This is just a few thoughts I have almost 1 1/2 years post op. This was the best decision I could of made for myself. Granted I am still not at my goal weight. However I have not gained any back and I know if I want to get to my goal I will need to put a little more effort into it again. Which mostly is just getting back to the basics of what we are told to do right from the beginning, Eat healthy, and get your butt moving. lol I know several others who have had this surgery some are a complete success others have failed and are gaining weight rapidly back. Some have taken their tool/ gift and have used it wonderfully and are healthy and …

I had RNY in November 2019. Overall I have lost 40lbs since the surgery, but I have not lost anything in the last month. I had a routine doctor appt with my GP a month ago, and I was 276, and I still am. it has fluctuated a little, ranging between 278 and 273. I'm taking my vitamins, getting my protein, eating about 1000 calories a day and logging my food. I am exercising. I know I could do more exercise, but my schedule is a little crazy right now (I do taxes for a living so real busy time of year plus a couple kids). I just really wish I could figure out what is going on. Does this happen to other people? I have read about stalls but usually what people describe i…

I had RNY 2 days ago. That 1st night after surgery was awful but it's getting better now. I've been walking around but the gas pains are still here. I feel more comfortable sitting up in recliner than laying down. I'm also having a hard time getting my fluids in. I'm really gonna push it today bcuz I don't want to have to stay I'm here any longer. Any 2/25/20 surgery twins?

Hello Family, I woke up yesterday morning and had lower flank back pain bilaterally! First thing I thought was kidneys! I have been getting in at least 64 oz of water not counting my coffee in the morning! Only thing I think is the guilty culprit is I tried a Coke Zero and thought how amazing, it took me a whole day to get it down, so I had another one the next day and the next! They are 16.9 oz bottles but again it takes me all day to get it down. I just sip sip sip, my urine is a little darker than usually and so I am thinking that is the problem because as I am typing this, I realized it took me all day to sip the coke zero, I really wasn't getting in my water lik…

My scale victory is hitting 40lbs!!! I feel HUMAN again! My non-scale victory is silly, but made me feel great! I went to Wawa yesterday and ordered a spinach salad from the kiosk. For those unfamiliar with Wawa, you order at a kiosk, and they call your number when your order is ready. They have hoagies, meatball sandwiches, chicken fingers, etc. There were about 8-10 people waiting for their food, when the guy behind the counter looked over at me, held up the bag and said "spinach salad?" Of all the people waiting, I looked like the type of person who would order a spinach salad! I felt like I weighed 120lbs, and practically skipped out the door!! LOL!!!

  21. I had started this post and abandoned it out of, I don’t know, fear? Of putting it out there? Or maybe just knowing it is too long and wordy. And I thought should I try again? I came back to try again and to my surprise it was still there. So I will bore anyone whom decides to read it to tears. And add in some new information. My surgery was April 29th 2019, I also had my gallbladder removed due to chronic inflammation. I guess nothing was quite normal due to lifelong chronic illness. I had two other pelvic surgeries before and after my RNY. It’s likely my surgery and subsequent pneumonia shortly after ended up revealing a existing condition that was slowly but stead…

I have gained so much from this community that I wanted to share my own experience in hopes that it would comfort someone else. I had gastric sleeve July 18, 2019. Like most people, the weight just fell off the first three months (25 lbs.) then I hit the dreaded plateau in November; for some reason my body wanted to hang out at 160. I was worried I was done losing. I started to step up my exercise to get over the hump, but then I injured my knee. Long story short, I am now losing again even though I can’t exercise just yet due to a knee sprain. I know gastric sleeve is supposed to take away your hunger; that did not happen for me. I most definitely get fuller faster, but …

Hi All. So I'm 2.5 weeks post OP and I'm finding this new stomach of mine difficult to navigate to say the least. I drank a protein shake clearly WAY to fast and now I feel horrible (bloated and a little nauseous). Did I stretch my stomach and do damage? I'm very anxious of that happening. Any wisdom you all have would be greatly appreciated!

I’m having lap roux-en-y on 2/24 (yay!) and have an 8 month old at home. Has anyone experienced WLS postpartum? How did you handle caring for baby? How long until you were able to pick up and hold them? I’m still dealing with pp hair loss so I’m not as worried about that with the upcoming surgery. Most concerned about not being able to pick up baby.

Right now I'm eating between 650 and 800 calories a day. I can reach my 65g of protein, and I can hold about 6 oz of food per meal, but I tend to just eat 4oz. 3oz of protein and 1 oz of a veggie. Is this normal 1 1/2 months out? Am I eating too much? My doctor says I'm doing fine, but I just dont want to mess up or stretch my bypass out. I guess I'm paranoid.

I have been working so hard to keep my calories up at around 1000/1100. My fitnesspal kept telling me if I keep eating this way I will weigh 158 in 5 weeks. I was getting pretty frustrated because the scale stayed at the same 169/170 for 3 weeks. I have been really focusing on getting my protein in, if I was hungry I would eat some roasted chicken (I even bought myself a rotisserie chicken just for that reason) Well today much to my happy surprise I dropped 2.5 pounds! I guess the Nutritionist knows what she is talking about. This week I am going to focus on getting more exercise in, and hopefully kick it up up even more.

How common are post surgery ulcers? I know you could potentially develop one soon after surgery while still healing, but I’ve been seeing thing about people years out after RNY with ulcer complications. Is this a big issues with the surgery?

I have had multiple complications since my RYGB on 7/18/16. I have had emergency kidney stone surgery, multiple hospitalizations for what was finally determined to be a marginal ulcer, and dysautonomia which is uncontrolled low blood pressure (60/40 or less). In addition I still have to vomit 2-3 times a month or more after a meal when I hurt for 2 hours & know whatever I ate won't go down. I am not complaining, but also I rarely (once every 3 months or so) have upper abdominal pain that is so intense that I can't breathe, let alone drive, walk, speak. It puts me down for 5-10 minutes and scares the hell out of my family, my patients, and my staff. The intense pain u…

I had RNYGB on 7/19/16. I still say it is the greatest surgery I have ever had. My BMI is down from 37 to 21. I had no problems until I had to go to the ER on 4/10/18 with horrific abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. My surgeon put me on Prilosec and Carafate for 6 weeks, but I found out later the Prilosec caps were not bioavailable and just went through without being effective. So on Mother's Day I went back to the hospital for pain control and an upper scope to look for a marginal ulcer. Unfortunately the GI MD had no expertise in looking for marginal ulcers and said my scope was normal. So, I had 6 more weeks of unbelievable pain. My surgeon said maybe I had ga…

I just got this kind of "keurig" for vitamins. It's called Tespo. It blends all of my daily bariatric vitamins so I can drink them instead of take them in pill form. I'm supposed to take 2 servings a day, but when I try to take them I just end up puking uncontrollably and it ruins my whole day in regards to being able to eat anything. Has anyone had any similar problems to vitamins like this at all?

I had RNY July 2019 and I'm down about 130 lbs total from pre-surgey 311 lbs to current weight of 182 lbs. In the last week I've gained 4 lbs (178 to 182). I'm trying to catch my mistake now to prevent the scale from going up any further. Im watching my portions, counting calories and carbs, and drinking most of my water. Im not doing anything different than I was doing when I was losing. I can accept a stall, but I'm terrified of regaining just 7 months out. I had hernia repair surgery on 12/31/19, so I'm still unable to exercise for another few weeks. I managed to lose about 10 lbs during January after surgery without exercise. February has been a rough start for me …
