I'm almost 2 weeks post-bypass, and despite an initially hellish first few days-have evened out quite well. Something I've been experiencing: I can sit and drink an entire 11.5 oz Premier Protein drink in one sitting. I'm not chugging it-simply sitting and sipping it like I would water while watching tv, etc. I feel sort of full after but not uncomfortable, nauseous or pukey. I did in fact run this past the medical team who said it was fine, and they initially start people on the 4 oz to sort of get them moving in the right direction, but I can sit and drink double that with little to no discomfort. (I'd say it can take me anywhere from 45-90 minutes.) Anecdotal…

I had my surgery on Wednesday, August 5th. While I was in the hospital, I kept complaining about something stuck in the back of my throat. I told multiple nurses and no one took me seriously. After I got home, I started having more issues where it was difficult to swallow my pills because it was in the way. I went to an urgent care today who told me that it is my uvula and it's extremely elongated. He recommended I go to an ENT. So I called my doctor and explained the situation and I am waiting for a call back. I think it is a problem from the intubation. Has anyone else had this issue?

Its been a struggle, but would do it again. I'm having some nutritional problems. I've only lost about 100 lbs and still have 100 to go and at a standstill. I'm severely malnourished, deficient in iron even after 8 weeks of weekly iron injections. Deficient in all B vitamins, monthly B12 injections now. Magnesium, vitamin D, ect..... as you can see, my body isn't absorbing the vitamins and minerals needed. I'm always very tired, which cuts down on my activity. Completed 37 rounds of radiation for cancer a couple months ago, caring for my mom who just had open heart surgery. Extremely stressed to say the least, Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get …

  5. I've been really lucky in that I haven't had a ton of hunger since surgery. Even now, I may get hungry or I may not. However, I have also noticed I don't get "full" on 5-6 oz of food (lean meats and veggies). For the most part, I stop eating at that amount and I'm no longer hungry - but again, not full. I realized I don't really know how people who don't have weight problems do this. Before surgery, I would eat until I was stuffed most the time and I'm pretty sure "normal" eaters don't do that. But do they look for a feeling of being full, or just no longer hungry? For those of you who are out further and in maintenance - do you eat to when you are full? …

I am having MGB on Tuesday and wondering how many have had experience with this procedure and how have the outcomes been. My doctor is using this procedure because I have acid reflux and supposly this will cure it. I know very little about this procedure so any info will help.

Has anyone tried one of the home laser treatments like HairMac or iRestore for hair growth? The clinical trial data seems hopeful and I am thinking of purchasing one. Both options are pricey but I would pay anything to fill in bald patches and overall thinning.

Hello ... I just got my date of April 13 for surgery. It was going to be done at a hospital ( Saint Francis in Delaware) but now the scheduled at a surgical center instead and I was told I can be there only 23 hours? I am concerned because all of the classes and doctor appointments had been about hospital stay ? Possibly staying one to two nights. Now that it is a surgical center i am only allowed to stay at max 23 hours. How if i am sleeping from pain meds do they know there is a problem ? Maybe i am wrong but i thought is was major surgery ? Anyone else had theirs done at American Surgery Center in Delaware with Dr.Peters ? How was your experience ? Also, I had my colon…

  13. I’m on my 7th day of the two week prep and I feel hunger pains tonight. I had some mild hunger pains on the second day but then none all week. The only thing I can think of is that I had some aggravation this afternoon with someone that always wants me to fix everything for them and I was stressing. I even yelled out “this is my time dammit!” After I hung up. I’m not going to break my diet, I will drink water and go to bed early but it’s easy to see how stress can make you hungry. Also my hubby cooked up some savory food and I still smell it. Maybe I should try a bit of Vicks under my nose. I just need to shut my phone or tell people I’m out of town. Let them figure out …

  17. I met with my surgeon in February 2020 and he said bypass will be my best option. Based on my health insurance I have to meet with a Dietitian for 6 consecutive visits and have to talk with a Dietitian at the insurance company for 12 consecutive months as part of the requirements for surgery. I have a couple other requirements to meet also before being approved. I don't feel like I am getting knowledge on the Dietitian side of things from the hospital. They just ask if I have questions and their answers are always you will need to ask your surgeon when you see him again and that will not be until February 2021. I just want to know how to plan meals and how to make…

I'm getting worried. I started at 229lbs. My gastric bypass was 2 years ago June 21st. I lost weight pretty fast and am still losing. I am now at 103 lbs. I did not want to lose this much at all. I eat all the time trying to gain now. I am in a size 3 jeans and wearing a small shirt. I have no boobs at all. None! When I eat I feel so tired. I have had blood work done and its all good. About 3 months ago I had a celtic ulcer and had to have some emergency surgery but other than that I have been fine, just continuing to lose. I keep hoping it will taper off and I will eventually gain some back. I look bad. Does anyone have any advice…

I really need some help and advice on what I can do. I have lumbar stenosis and have to get injections to be able to walk like normal people, otherwise I get stuck and cant move my left leg and have awful pain trying to do so. I also have bad neck that gives me horrible headaches which go on day and night sometimes and need injections for those. I truly cant handle all of this pain. I am so overwhelmed at the moment. I was told today by the bariatric team that if I must have them to space them out and stay on my Dexilant ( I dont know if I will ever be able to get off of it) Now I am scared. She didnt tell me what can happen by doing these injections. Any advice wo…

I’m looking forward to losing weight because I have a lot of health problems and I have also put on a lot of weight recently I can barely walk. So I know I have no choice but to do this surgery but I’m scared AF I’m like am I going to die? I’m terrified of being put to sleep. I also have been online reading people’s horror stories about regret after wls. I’m going bananas

  25. I've barely eaten in the past week or so. I'm just not hungry at all and when I try to eat anything be it liquid or solid my body doesn't want it. I chew and chew and chew and its s struggle to swallow because I don't want to. I have a Dr. Appointment next week to hopefully resolve some of the issues I'm having. I'm also having sharp pains in my left side where what's left of my stomach sits. Has anyone else experienced these problems?

I’m going in on August 7th 2020. I’m really excited about having surgery and looking forward to my new life! My husband and daughter are very supportive of my decision and I feel very positive about taking this step. I’ve got all the food for the two week liquid fast in my house already. I can’t wait to have a New Year’s Eve when I won’t be resolving to lose weight but resolving instead to buy myself nice new clothes! ?

Hey ya'll! I searched, and there doesn't seem to be a topic for the June bypassers yet, so I guess I'll start one. I had surgery on Monday the 8th, so 2 days ago. My recovery has been a lot easier than I expected, but I'm really concerned that I'm drinking/swallowing normally and can get down all the fluids I want, which has been a lot since my mouth has been so dry. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting or even any gas pain that I can tell. I do have some discomfort, but am not sure that is gas pain. Anyway, I am just really worried that I my surgeon didn't make my pouch right or something since the fluids are just flowing freely. How are you doing post-op so fa…

  32. Drank the magnesium citrate about required for surgery tomorrow and threw up about 10 minutes after finishing it. Did this happen to anyone else? I don’t know who to call on a Sunday for info. I did take 2 dulcolax this morning (also required as part of bowel prep).

  33. Did anyone do a strict diet leading up to their two week liquid diet. I have to start my two week liquid diet July 28th. What work best for you to get into that transformation.

to sit in a chair and fit! to get up from a chair and not have the chair come with me! to get through a summer without experiencing heat rash! to not leave sweat marks when I sit! to fit in a turnstile without turning sideways! to walk the length of a medical center without requiring admission! I post this because I am about three weeks away from surgery and I had to travel unexpectedly. I welcomed this trip because it reminded me just how much my weight is hurting me. Can not wait to be on the other side of this. ?

  35. I have reached my goal weight and was wondering how and when will the weight stop coming off! I have lost my boobs, butt and walking hasn't helped with building it up! I love the new me but scared I am going to look like Olive Oil from Popeye before it's all over! My last visit, I discovered the passing out episode was d/t blood pressure dropping to low and all of my blood work came back FINE! I am currently now in a 12 and wearing size Med in my capris! Again, I am so happy with my New Me but will I every stop losing the weight!? I am up for any suggestions, for my athletic bariatric family! Thanks in advance!

The time has come and tomorrow is the big day. I’m not gonna lie I am nervous. I am not so much worried about the procedure as I am about the pain after. I am also having a hiatal hernia repairs at the same time.

Hi all and thanks for all the support so far! After reading all over this board, looking at med journal articles online, and talking to different people on my care team I am 90% sure I'm going to do the Roux en Y (with any luck in Sept/Oct). I have seen a few articles and references to different mm lengths for the roux limb... what does this do? Does shorter mean less absorption = more weight loss? Of course I'm going to ask my surgeon before I make a final decision but I want to have some knowledge under my belt first. Bonus for links to articles online. and THANK YOUUUUUUU

I had bypass surgery 9 days ago and already down 16 lbs!!!! I'm so glad I did this. Was this just a lucky week for me or can I expect to lose this much weight each week for the first couple of months?

  40. Started by stephensonb716,

I’m 29, and 3 weeks post RNY/gall bladder removal/hiatal hernia repair. I’m 5’7 and 246 pounds. I still get dizzy, have trouble getting through stores (using the scooters!), and just overall knocked down. I feel like it’s taking me forever to recover. (I am young, I’m a full time nurse and single mother-I am by no means fragile or inactive) How long did it take for you to fully recover?

  41. I made this so that people can vent about their mental health pre and post op. Meds and habits change and it can be really rough. I have Bipolar disorder and having surgery meant stopping my meds for over a month. Then we had to adjust meds so that I'd absorb them better. The in between time was really rough and I had some serious issues with my depression and containing my emotions. It's gotten better and I still have rough days, but venting really helps!

Hi everyone, I posted this on two other forums but I thought I'd post here too. I'm having my bypass next Wednesday, 7/22. I was calm for the most part until the past few days, when I started getting nervous, but that was the nervous that I'm assuming everyone feels when surgery gets close. For some background, I'm 22 years old, 5'1, and started working towards surgery in October of last year at 260 pounds. As of today, I'm 50 pounds down, and that's of course on my own, before having surgery. Yesterday, I started having serious second thoughts. These normal nervous thoughts had me wondering if I could do it on my own since I've been able to lose 50 pounds by myself …

  44. I relied so heavily on this forum and others in the months leading up to my procedure that I promised myself I would provide a 12 month update, FAQ and experience summary for others planning the same thing for the same reasons. I recently posted this to Reddit and bariatricpal rounds out the plan. My story is positive – overwhelmingly positive – but I think most importantly my story is not emotional. I don’t have a psychological problem with food. I was never tormented or made to suffer for my weight (beyond finding flights uncomfortable and shirts being too short). I made this choice on statistical grounds – it would extend my life on average and go a long way to improvi…

  45. I’m a type 1 diabetic. I am scheduled to have my surgery done on the 13th of this month. I am having the gastric bypass done with Dr Lytle in Atlanta. My CW is 228 and I’m doing this for the benefit of reducing my insulin intake and losing this unwanted weight. Does anyone have any insight for me? Did this actually reduce your insulin intake? Also I’m on the minimed 670g system. Should help prevent them from needing to check my sugar at weird times of the night. Thanks in advance!!

  46. Hi all! Er, I'm not exactly a newbie, but I'm not a vet or anything either. I (Two or Three times) Have considered weight loss surgery and a day or two before surgery date, got too scared and backed out.) I'm curious as to see if there is any of you, who has been near my weight as listed on the topic, and have seen such amazing results? I'm also not steering clear of the bad side effects (Albeit; rare!) As well. I'm actually going to see my PCP tomorrow about getting a referral back into it! I am back, but this time, I'm dead set on going for the gastric bypass (RNY), As now, this time, I've acquired two MORE reasons (Health-wise) to needing to…
