This is my first post, although I've been lurking here for a while. I will figure out my signature and update. I have read a lot of threads with folks talking about telling or not telling friends, family, co-workers about their decision to have surgery. Everyone's decision is unique to them I believe and I respect that. Maybe someday I will feel differently than I do now. I have chosen not to reveal it to others aside from two close friends that I knew would be supportive and my husband and children. My father wants to come and visit later this week and he has not been told. There are a lot of reasons, but mostly the reason is that he will share it with others…

Dear All I hope someone can provide me advice. I had my operation on Sept. 23. I have only had one call with my dietician and bariatric team. I lost 7 lbs since the operation in the first week but since then nothing. I do not eat carbs and in week 2 my dietician was already stating that I needed to increase carbs. I am gluten intolerant so she advised rice cakes. I workout 5 to 6 days a week alternating between cardio and weights. I have asked my bariatric team and they say that everything is fine. I am scared because my hunger and frustrations are growing. Any tips

  6. Had bypass 4 months ago and my weight loss has pretty much stalled for the past 3 weeks. I have also noticed I am feeling much hungrier most days, and portion sizes are creeping up. Not significantly, but noticeably. Oh, and I am definitely missing my protein targets. By a lot. I am having big problems with food (just been diagnosed with avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) which essentially means I have an incredibly small range of things I can eat. This not only makes meals extremely boring after a while, I have become quite reliant on relatively unhealthy foods (e.g. I use ragu sauce from a jar rather than making my own). Also, I slipped and had a sma…

I am wrestling with understanding if what I am doing is correct post gastric bypass. In the first few weeks the weight moved not very fast but faster than now. For the last 5 weeks I am losing on average between 1.5 to 1.75 pounds per week. I spoke to the dietician who first told me it was because I do not eat enough carbs and I should have rice cakes and then when I followed what she said (by adding a half of a rice cake a day) but there was no change she said I understood her incorrectly, which I do not understand as she put it in writing, and should use another plan and eat no carbs even though the other plan says start the day with toast or whole wheat crackers, I am …

I'm still new here & still reading some of the stories and still pretty new to the surgery part (I had surgery on August 3rd). I had a really hard time early on with food, and even still some days I find it very hard to eat anything without feeling disgusted. My weight loss has been steady (it has slowed but my dr said that that is normal). That being said I have worked at eating better, and being 4 months post-op now it is much easier on me as far as eating goes. Has anyone experienced a gain of just a few pounds despite not changing anything eating habit-wise? I had a small gain (3 pounds, give or take), and I figured at this stage is abnormal. I have rece…

I had my first surgical consultation last week and left feeling a bit upset. I had decided that I wanted to have the sleeve, but the surgeon said that he doesn't recommend it because I have GERD. All of my research and reading that I have done over the course of the past year is out the window. RNY seems like a much more complex surgery. I am worried about the malabsorption aspect, as well as having my small intestines rerouted. Did anyone else have similar concerns prior to surgery?

  10. Started by chunkarella,

So I'm 4 weeks out from surgery as of yesterday. I lost about 13 lbs my first two weeks and now, I'm only down ~7 more lbs. At my 2 week follow up, my docs wanted me to double that, by the time of my 6 week follow up (from 304 to 278). I've been hovering around 298-297 since my 2 week follow up and I can't understand why. I honestly don't eat (never hungry/get full quickly) and walk at least 30 mins a day w/my doggo. I've built my stamina up from being able to walk only 10-15 a day. My clothes fit better, and I'm losing inches, but the lbs aren't going away. Would anybody have an idea why this might be happening? I stick to my diet, and don't eat anything I sh…

Anyone ever feel like you have food stuck? And you try to throw up but can’t? (Not me my friend). I’ve never had to throw up but once felt like it for 20 min.

  12. So, it's been almost a year since surgery. I am down 135lbs. However I just got the flu. I feel like trash I am craving carbs which i havent done. Last three days I've been eating 1400 calories when I nornally do 1100. I've been eating low fat wheat thins, and some other crackers/low calorie toast. I have about 100 carbs a day, but last 3 days have been about 200grams maybe 250 grams. I havent lost anything which is okay. I had the diarrhea for 3 days straight and have been eating pepto chews so I'm sure I'm backed up till Christmas at that rate. I talked to my surgeon since we can call whenever. She said just breath and take care of myself my body is craving carbs for mo…

  13. Like many, I've lost a TON of hair as part of this journey. In August, at 7 months out, I cut it to a long bob which helped, but as it started to grow out it quickly became scraggly and looked very fine. SO I did a major cut this week taking it to a long pixie (almost 10.5 months out) I am super happy at what a difference it made in appearance - parts of it are almost back to normal density with regrowth. Now if it only stops falling out and I can keep what I have.

Had gastric bypass revision from sleeve end of October and I thought I would have lost more weight. I feel I had more resistance with the sleeve with food than I do after bypass can’t lay of my left side very long because I will have pain... feel weaker. Can anyone relate?? Give me some ideas please ??‍♀️

I’m a little over a year since surgery and there is pretty much nothing I can’t eat. It’s kind of scary and I sort of wish it was more of a pain for some things. I’m maintaining at about 6 lbs above my ultimate goal weight. I know I’ve developed some bad habits but it really doesn’t affect me. I keep wondering, did I just get really lucky or if I don’t get back very strict (I’m not THAT bad) will it all go downhill soon. I know I need to follow the docs orders. Just thought the hard times would persist longer. I am recognizing that maybe I am overly confident and too slack with my diet. I wonder if the folks that have re-gained weight, did it seem like they could n…

Exactly 5 yrs ago this month I stepped on the scale at my doctors office and it read 110, but it was KG! That means I had a BMI of 48. I remember being so depressed because that was the highest number I had ever seen. I remember thinking "man that's what I should weigh in pounds!" I am excited today because when I got on the scale this morning it read 110.6...POUNDS!! It's been a long road but I can't believe I finally got there!

Hi. I am post-surgery (had mine on August 3rd this year). I just wanted to check out a forum for WLS (I'm not a fan of the FB groups so far). I'm not sure what I hope to gain except a place to read others' journeys and ask questions about my own. Anyway, I look forward to reading and learning...hopefully!!

  18. Hi there. I had gastric bypass about 3 months ago, have had no complications and have lost about 54 pounds so far. All has been going swimmingly! EXCEPT, I had some whipped cream Sunday which led to diarrhea and then all day extreme gas pains after eating small snacks. I switched to liquids on Monday, still experienced severe gas all day and today, Tuesday, had low carb, low fat, high protein snacks and tolerated them well. UNTIL I just had sugar free pudding and a small bit of chicken ravioli (3-5 bites) and the gas pain started up again. Ugh! Does anyone know what I should be doing?! Is this normal to have gas pains like this several days after dumping?

  19. Yesterday I had a dumping incident after eating a bit of spicy Indian chicken to fast. It was about 30 grams. I became violently ill and (tmi) I felt like my stomach and intestines were being torn in half. This was 20 hours ago. Today i cannot hold anything down. Protein shakes, protein yogurt, protein crackers, rice cakes (advised by my nutritionist) come back up. I am only able to tolerate 0% sugar applesauce and water. Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone experienced not having a sufficient amount of protein. How negative can this impact my weightloss?

So far everything soft that I’ve eaten has been going great and I’m able to keep everything down ! I wanted to know if poke would be acceptable as a soft food? I was thinking if i were to eat it to get tuna which is soft and and som avocado and some soft veggies on the side . Would this be acceptable? If not i can wait a little longer

  22. So, I am 5 weeks post up. I had the bypassed done. I am 23 years old female 5’5 starting weight 252lb surgery weight 248lb current weight 220lb. So pretty much I’ve only lost 30 pounds so far and I’ve been at a stall for about two week and half I tried everything but nothing is changing my weight idk what to do. It’s pretty frustrating! Any tips or advices to overcome the stall? Will I eventually start loosing again? I’m assuming I’m a slow looser. ?

  25. I’m about three and a half months past my gastric bypass. The weight is coming off steadily but I have episodes of anxiety which cause me to want to eat even though I’m not physically hungry. Lately I have found myself getting up in the middle of the night to eat something. Today I tried listening to relaxation sounds and I fell asleep for one hour but I woke up and I ate chicken salad on crackers. I know I am not hungry because I feel none of the sensations. I feel like my comfort eating mindset is coming back even though I have no capacity to eat excess food. I’m not sure how to handle these feelings. I’m definitely eating enough protein and I have salad every day. Anyo…

I'm 11 months post-op bypass and I am having some pain. It's similar to what I experienced pre-surgery that I thought was heartburn but now I'm not sure. Anyone else experience anything similar? (Note: I had an ultrasound and it is not gallstones or anything else they could see with that. My liver is enlarged but we did additional blood tests and it seems to be a remnant from being obese most of my life and nothing to worry about). My symptoms include: - Intermittent low grade pain just to the right of my sternum (kind of behind my right breast, but still central if that makes any sense) - Pain often spreads to the back of my neck and shoulders. I am eating protein rich food weighing everything, drinking shakes and eating yogurt. My problem is that most protein shakes make me fill ill. Even the yogurt turns my stomach. I am also allergic to milk so everything is lactose and milk free. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am undergoing a revision from gastric sleeve to a MGB in February, and I'm a little worried about my meds. I currently take Vyvanse 70 mg and Adderall 20mg 3x daily. (yes, I am aware that is a crap ton of stimulants). Anywho, how have people's experiences been taking these meds post MGB? Do you crush the IR Adderall tablet? Does it work as well? I assume the Vyvanse doesn't work as well because its extended release. Has anyone switched to IR Ritalin or the patch? What dose were you switched to? The highest patch doesn't seem equivalent to 70mg of Vyvanse and Methylphenidate hasn't worked super well for me historically. To quote my previous psychiatrist after hearing my …

I had bypass yesterday morning and feeling good overall. I’m just looking for someone with a similar experience. I’m only needing to lose 80-85 lbs for optimal BMI number. I had high blood pressure, blood work has the bad elevated numbers and have been borderline diabetic for years (2 gestational diabetics pregnancies). Just seeing if there’s others that have less to lose then 100 and how long did it take to hit the number & maintain? Thanks for reply’s!

  35. Hi I posted earlier about celiac and pain etc... I am 5 years post-op RNY and for over a year have been searching for answers to my physical symptoms and have seen many specialists and my bariatric group to no avail. I am trying to pinpoint things as specifically as possible so that an answer or diagnosis can finally happen and wondered if I had any company out there with similar symptoms. After I eat, doesn't matter what but after I eat a meal I start feeling ill, not like stomachache but like a virus or actually kind of like a Mono kind of feeling. It starts with a low grade fever usually 99.5 and then it starts to go down. I'm not having a hot flash that I know i…

Hi all- I'm at 3 months post op from bypass. I don't have any problems with being tempted by anything and I've learned now that if there's something I can like to try, to eat a bite and spit it out. No problems. However, I'm stumped with Thanksgiving. My kids are 19 and 23. This year we have all started working, my son and I both graduate college next semester and my son is about to leave our home. I think this will be our last Thanksgiving together as a family here at the house. I'm hitting pre-empty nest panic fast. I can't have turkey and the kids don't care so much about exactly how traditional it is. My daughter also has lost weight and is watching wha…

Contrary to many, I can't vomit. While this may sound nice-it's not. Sometimes I'm dry heaving and sick to my stomach-get a lot of mucus and liquid-but can't fully throw up when I have to or my body is trying to. Anyone know the logic behind this? Still able to lose weight with this or did they mess up my nerve system?

Am curious if any that had the RNY procedure use intermittent fasting and if so, which method? Has it helped you? Due to my Dr changing my synthroid dosage my weight loss has went to a crawl. Just 3 lbs since July 5th and was losing 2 lbs/week before then. Am considering doing intermittent fasting to shake things up.

  42. I’ve been waiting forever for surgery. Was supposed to go in May, then got put on hold because of COVID. Surgeon wanted a Motility study done by Gastrointerologist and I had that done end of June called their office and said it was completed but could never talk to scheduling. They were taking the easy cases during the summer I was complicated. By the way I live in Colorado and my surgeon is in Phoenix AZ! Our insurance is Banner Health and there are no “Tier 1” hospitals here! I did my seminar in September 2019! I get a call 2 weeks ago saying did you ever do you your Motility test? I had the sleeve done in January 2014. It was successful when you consider why I had it. Which was to be able to get pregnant along with some other health concerns. I didn't lose as much weight as one would think but again it wasn't my intention anyway. I just wanted to get to a healthier weight. My highest was 311 and the lowest I got to post sleeve was 206. I loved the way I felt and looked at that weight. After having a baby and falling into some bad old habits but more importantly suffering from severe acid.reflux and being dependent on antacids I decided to look into revision surgery. On Sept 17th I weighed 286 as of today I weigh 254. Things are for the most part go…

Something my surgeon or any of the docs NEVER warned me to expect was terrible smelling gas and poo It is really really bad. I am wondering if I am the only one, or if anyone has noticed this after the surgery. I am 5 months out and noticed this on day 2 I need to know if anyone here has had this problem and if you were able to STOP the stink. I am not really eating gas inducing foods. I just get gas bad sometimes. I will say that I don't get constipated, just the opposite. I usually go first thing in the morning no problem (except the stink). I am not a potty mouth, just need help!

As you all know, sooooooo many things in your life change after surgery. More than just weight loss. One thing that changed for me was that I went back to school. I found it so interesting during the process leading up to, and all the changes afterwards, just how psychological eating is for us. I also noticed and was very frustrated by the way people, including myself, had been and still are treated as a big guy as opposed to a small guy.
