I am 8 months post-op. I have had issues with gas and severe gas pain. I do not have low pain tolerance by any means, but sometimes the pain is extremely intense. It's caused me to nearly pass out at one point, and that sounds so absurd really...because, gas?! Does anyone else experience this? I have tried the gas pills and such with very minimal relief. I do have chronic constipation as well, so I know that does not help. My next appointment is in May, so I will bring all of this up. I'm just curious who has these issues and how long have you been dealing with them? TIA!!

  2. Started by Michele 2021,

My surgeon requested that I not gain more than 5 lbs prior to getting my bypass. I’m still a month out and noticed that I’ve gained 10 lbs since my last appointment. Has anyone else experienced weight gain prior to their surgery date? I have been lenient with my food choices recently since I will be starting the pre-op diet on 4-16...and know my future diet will be very constrictive. I am actually thinking of starting the pre-op diet sooner to counter the weight gain I’ve experienced. I’m curious to know if others have experienced these issues! Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

Let me tell you’d I just finished 2 weeks and goodness I feel like I have been to war yes I know that’s dramatic to say but it has been such a mental battle especially knowing that I’m on a 6 week liquid diet the last 4 days have been extra hard aunt flow came to town and good god all I wanted was food and to nap all day and I couldn’t do either one of those things and no one else in my life understands my struggle so I guess I’m just here to vent and to tell anyone else that it’s not easy but you can do this just take it day by day Side note I chose premier protein as my shake and I drink 5 a day I find that cookies and cream and chocolate are horrible and the caram…

  5. Has anyone else experienced GERD after the Gastric bypass? I got the bypass after my sleeve was causing my stomach acid to burn lesions in my esophagus. A year has gone by, but for the last few months I have been getting really bad heartburn again. I'm getting an endoscopy next week, but I can't seem to find anything about what this could be. The ironic thing, is that I was a smoker for years, but NOW I don't smoke and rarely drink, but my acid feels worse than when I was smoking etc. This happens if I eat or not, when I wake up sometimes, I can't seem to pinpoint a reason. Please let me know if anyone else has been through this.

  6. Does anyone have any advice on a good vitamins to take post op the gastric. Bypass that may help prevent hair loss?

Hi Everybody! Had my surgery on 2/22/21 everything went beautifully I was up and walking around and on liquids a few hours after. The hospital staff was fantastic! I'm feeling pretty good 6 days later except I have a burning sensation on my skin not the actual incisions but but between two of them feels like a sunburn and isn't constant. Has anybody else experienced this? I go for my follow up on Tuesday 3/2 so I will ask my doctor about it. Keep up the great work!!!

  8. I’m scheduled for a gastric bypass on April 28th does anyone have any advice on things you can. Do to better prepare for the hospital stay?

I have this high abdobmen fat between my belly and my chest. Most or many men have this when overweight. It seems like a fat retention pond. While I can already see my belly getting smaller this high adobmen fat seems like it has not gotten any smaller even though I have lost 35 pounds or about 12% of my high body weight. It doesn't want to leave me!!

Hi everyone! Brand new to the forums here. I am gearing up for my December 15, Roux-en Y surgery at Stanford Medical. I know that a majority of patients get the RNY for weight loss. I've been having a hard time finding people who have the surgery to purely address GERD/Acid Reflux. Is there a thread here specifically for this? I'd love to find some people going through the same thing so I can be supportive as well. ?

I’ve lost 38 pounds since my surgery on 1/15 and 46 since pre-op. I’m grateful for so many things- I’m actually grateful for the journey. Pre-op was painfully hard for me because I was mourning that overeating was coming to an end. Yes you read that right. Post op was hard because it was immediately a world of unknowns: why did I gain after surgery? why was I hungry after surgery? why did I have a metallic taste in my mouth? why couldn’t I tolerate chicken and eggs? what is this foamies thing that happened twice in one week and only after a few bites? why was my stomach upset all the time? why did I stall after three weeks for 11 days? why was a losing a pound a day in…

  13. I was wondering what is good for Bariatric surgery and low carb and heart healthy products

  14. Started by amyseattle,

I overdid it tonight at dinner and for the first time since my surgery exactly 8 weeks ago. I ate an entire 330 calorie (50 carbs, 12 protein and 10 fat) burrito tonight. I was expecting to eat half but since I never felt the full feeling I usually get, I kept eating. Several things are wrong with this but mostly I’m bothered I kept eating because I wasn’t forced to stop How did my pouch handle that intake without me getting terribly sick?

  15. So I am 2 days posy op, I just weighed myself and I am like 8 lbs heavier than when I WENT IN TO SURGERY! How is that even possible? Is it all the bloating and gas? Day 1 in hospital I ate a quarter of a jello, 3 tablespoons of chicken broth, 2 protein shakes, a tablespoon on refried beans and a tablespoon of pureed turkey. At home I had a half of a jello, 4 tablespoons of soup. Today I havent eaten anything. Really what the hell!? Is this normal???

I am having such a hard time getting to stage 4, regular foods no starches. My gastric bypass surgery was Jan 28th of this year. I’ve been mostly on purée foods, some exceptions in certain foods but the most concerning thing is my new stomach hates meat! I am definitely not meeting my protein goals. Protein shakes are hard too. They did a X-ray with the barium and said everything looked fine other than really bad acid reflux. I’m taking little sips, bites and not drinking before or after meals in the time limits. So far I regret the surgery even though I’ve lost 50lbs. Seems I’m always vomiting, in pain or so fatigue to where I feel like I’m gonna have a seizure. It gets…

At my 1 month post op, I was told to eat 1100-1200 calories including 110 grams of protein, 60g carbs, 45g of fat a day and no foods are off limits as long as I hit those targets. Pre-op I wasn’t a huge eater and these numbers are only a few hundred calories off from what I was eating. I gained weight as a result of insulin resistance and other health issues. I was also told that my 15lbs lost at 1 month was good but slower than most. At that point I had been stalled for a week. Anyone else given similar recommendations? Did you lose as planned? I’m trying not to second guess my team but from what I’m reading, this seems like more than most people are told and doubt …

Can you shed some insight and truth on preventive measures, and how to deal with them? You can be honest with me and direct message me about drugs , or alcohol, or weed, or cigarettes or whatever, you took, that caused the ulcers, if you do not want to make it public you can Direct message me , and explain . I know it is a while until April 7, I’m just super excited to have a date to put on my calendar?

  20. Started by CapK,

Just have to be excited somewhere!! 50lbs down from December 10th when I started my 5 day pre-op liquid diet. Having a hard time though. I can't really see a big difference in the mirror. I still feel just as big and discouraged as before. Mainly because I am still the same pants size. My light denim jeans are falling off of me and definitely need to be sized down. But the dark wash jeans, still fit! Same size and everything. If I am a touch bloated, they are too tight even. How does that work? I was hoping at 50lbs gone all of my pants would be huge. Stinking dark wash jeans are really kicking my mood!

  21. Started by JTSC,

I reached maintenance phase and I’m within 5 lbs of my lowest. Good timing for a lifestyle change! To be honest the restaurant deal was a little positive for me personally in a bad situation overall, as it was easier for the family to adjust to me not going out to eat all the time. I’m an sure I would have contributed to the red line if I hadn’t made the choice.

Pain after revision was significantly worse than any of my other previous abdominal surgeries (myomectomy, sleeve, hysterectomy, colostomy reversal). I expected it based on the amount of scar tissue I have but it still shocked me upon waking up. Each day it gets easier. This group has really helped me this week. Any suggestions on how to get all my protein in since I’m going home soon?!

I am 13 months out and feel sick all of the time. I have a lot of nausea. The last month i have really felt bad, no energy, blacking out, nausea, dry heavies, stuffy head, cold sweats. I've tested negative for flu and covid but don't have any answers. I cant take vitamins because they make me nauseous. I never know what will make me sick either. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if a post nasal drip can be the problem.

I carry all my weight in midsection. I think the last weight i need to met is my stomach. I work out and eat healthy. Any tips on how to loose that last 30lbs? All suggestions are appreciated.

Hi I'm currently going through the process of getting my surgery date and I am so worried about hair loss. My mom and grandma has had the bypass over 10 years ago and everyone says there hair grows back but my mom's only grew back a little and my grandmas never really grew back. I also know someone who has had it over 10 years ago and she says her hair is still thin. I have long hair and lost some hair on a extreme diet i did once before so I'm worried I don't have much to lose this time. My hair only stopped falling out when I ate a lot of calories and was gaining weight:( I'm just really confused [emoji53]

  33. I was reading an old posts regarding calorie requirements after gastric bypass. I am five weeks post op and can eat 800 calories a day. I get 100 grams of protein and all my water in. My carbs are staying at 20 or less. My weight loss feels slow although overall I’m not really sure it is. Maybe my expectations are right. I started at 257 day of surgery and five weeks out i have lost 22 lbs. I haven’t always followed the diet above. Early on I ate much more carbs but last week upped my protein and cut my carbs. Fats also increased of course and this caused some increase in calories. The past post I read were encouraging people to eat more calories and even to get up t…

  35. Hello, I’ve been doing research for years now on the pros and cons that come with WLS as a whole and I finally decided to make an appointment and see what the doctor says. I thought of going with VSG, that’s what I found more research on from actual patients, surprisingly since RNY has been around much longer. I’m on the lower BMI side without too many medical issues so I didn’t think they’d agree at all. But the doctor gave me a surgery day and all the tests and pre-op things to do. She also told me the requirements are the same for both surgeries and somewhat hinted the weight loss would be larger with RNY and just went along with my choice of VSG, now I’m questioning i…

Hey everyone! I'm back on here, looking for motivation and advice. Long story short, I've just had my first surgery following my final cancer treatment and the biopsy came back all clear! Looks like I beat the odds and tackled esophageal cancer in 16 months. I did not go through chemo, therefore the stress of the situation drove me back into bad eating habits and I put on 30 pounds. I'm 4 years and 3 months post-bypass. I've maintained at 200 pounds (down from 369 at my biggest) and was very proud of myself until recently. I have packed this weight on over the last 4 months. Winter. Holidays. Cancer. COVID. It all conspired to make for a rough patch, but I'm on the o…

I've spent the last two days outside landscaping my front yard. It's been pretty physical work - raking, shoveling etc. I felt great both days with lots of energy. I felt certain that I was drinking enough water and eating enough calories. Last night my fingers started cramping and were very painful. Today, I woke up feeling exhausted and I'm definitely taking the day off to rest. I dropped two pounds on the scale over the past two days. I checked my food log and I had eaten over 1200 calories and over 80 grams of protein. Then I checked my exercise calorie expenditure and it was over 1100 calories. So the moral of my story is BE CAREFUL. As I've lost weight, …

I went in for my 2 month check up. I lost 33 pounds from a surgery weight of 256. They hope that by my 6 month appointment I will be down to 190. I said, well let’s talk about my goal weight. They said 190 is where the surgery (bypass) will take me and from there out I will need to vigorously exercise to get down to 160 (I’m 5’6”/female). I was shocked. I can’t commit to vigorous exercise for the rest of my life. I’m walking about 3-3.5 hours a week. Isn’t that good enough?
