Hi everybody, Sorry I didn’t update sooner, I had a little bit of a harrowing experience. But... it’s done!!! The surgery is done!!!! Friday morning I was the second surgery of the day. While I was in pre-op I heard the nurse telling another nurse that they were diverting the rest of the days surgeries because of no more beds. I barely eeked through. And my heart goes out to those who were canceled on, I know that devastation and anguish. I woke up from a fairly quick surgery in a TON of pain. I had spine surgery this year, I had sterilization surgery last year, I’ve had meningitis, broken multiple bones and I’ve birthed two babies. This easily hurt more than …

  2. I Had my 2 week post op appointment today and got clearance for soft food phase! I had a cheese stick mid afternoon and then for dinner had a scrambled egg with some cheese. The cheese took me half an hour to eat. I scrambled 3 eggs but I got in about 4 bites of eggs before I was full but I tolerated both with no problems!! Guess I’ll have to cut down my quantities! I’m so excited, and shocked at how little it takes to be full!

Hi, I started the purée stage the day before last. Today I tried to blend chicken and Mayo in the blender I got. It didn’t do the job, even a little bit. What good, cheap blenders could I get for delivery? I just had surgery Wednesday and I really don’t feel like walking all of Walmart just yet.

I posted back in August about my surgery getting canceled because of a covid surge in my area. I was devastated and facing losing my insurance. As luck would have it, I got to keep my insurance another month and was rescheduled for tomorrow. I have been trying really hard not to get my hopes up, but I just had my pre-op appointment and so far everything is a go. I’m crossing every appendage I have that tomorrow goes off without a hitch. I’m supposed to check in at the hospital at 10 am.

I am so excited to be at this point. Some times it feel like it took forever to get here, other times I feel like it flew! I am on day 4 of my liquid diet, and I am finally starting to feel more like myself. Day 1 and 2 I was so weak, tired, sore, headache... but most of that has subsided thankfully. Down 8.8 pounds so far since Monday! Anyone else schedule for bypass on the 20th? Looking to surround myself with a support system. Thank for reading, and good luck to you all!

  6. I'm possibly looking at revision from sleeve to RNY. Weight regain hasn't been too bad, but GERD and hiatal hernia are the reasons. I'm trying to find an upside besides not needing a prescription PPI and Tums for the rest of my life.....what about dumping. Sweets are a struggle with me. I can do it, but it isn't easy. Does anybody think it is a GOOD thing, that the fear of dumping is a deterrent? I think it would be but I'd love to hear from others that have actually had RNY. Thanks y'all.

  10. Started by Chantrella,

Hey Guess when did your weightloss plateau? I am 6 months out and struggling getting off my last 30 pounds. I eat super healthy, no alcohol, take my vitamins, drink my liquids and workout 5 days a week.

  11. So I have lost 100lbs, and I am 11 months post op. I still have about 70 lbs. to go to reach my goal weight. No worries there. What I am noticing is that my butt, belly, hips and tummy still seem to have a lot of fattiness to them. I still have that top part of the belly, under the bust, that seems fatty as well. I have a waist, but then I have the belly apron fat. Any tips on how to reduce this? I am not talking about loose skin, and yes that is a part of it, but it seems like it is still carrying some fat. I do not exercise, and was wondering at my age (62), if exercising is going to help at all. I was thinking of trying to do some light aerobics, and some sit ups, et…

  12. I’ve determined that I absolutely cannot eat Ramen. (Ate it once before, made me feel sick) I have been laying here for over an hour with my mouth periodically watering because I feel like I’m gonna throw up. If I didn’t have a phobia over vomit I am sure that I definitely would have. I feel like I’m dying!! I have no problem eating any kind of pasta or other kinds of noodles but there’s just something about Ramen I can’t digest. Anyway this is definitely the closest I’ve come to puking since my surgery. What do you do for dumping?? I tried papaya enzymes, laying down, tums…. Nothing helps. Just wait it out? I feel like I never want to eat again!

Hi I am 5 months into my journey after a bypass. I'm having a few issues but doing ok. I was wondering why alcohol isn't allowed for 12 months? Does it damage your new pouch or is it normal health advice? Can anyone shed any light on this please? Thanks ?

I have read ((and heard from friends who had the surgery) that people with gastric bypass do not throw up, and that their stomach doesn't turn since it's a pouch now. I just ate something that didn't agree with my stomach. and I started foaming. The stoma was plugged, I believe due to a piece of egg due to improper chewing. I'll try better next time. After I spit out all the excess saliva, my stomach "turned" twice and it forced me to empty my pouch. I didn't get nauseated at all, it just kind of happened on it's own but my stomach definitely "turned" both times. Can someone please explain to me if this is common for gastric bypass patients? I'm sincerely confused ab…

Hi all. Sorry for all the posts lately-I've been not feeling the best and find it triggers anxiety. Posting here helps. How many times a day do you guys eat? I've seen a lot of different stories, but are you guys losing weight doing all different kinds of lifestyles? My weight loss has slowed down and Im discouraged. I eat perfectly but my nutritionist has us at 4 TBSPS a meal, 3 X day with no snacks. I'm starving. I'm also getting headaches and other physical responses which have been painful and discouraging. I drink about 64-80 oz of water a day and it doesn't help much. All vitamins are present and accounted for. I want to incorporate healthy snacks but…

I am now on the Loser’s Bench. So far it’s been decent. Low pain (yay!) but I am dizzy, even hours after the anesthesia wore off. Lying down make me nauseous. My BP is up, where it is usually pretty normal. My blood sugar was elevated and they gave me an insulin shot. I’m not super worked up about it, but I’d like to hear others’ stories. How normal is this?

Hi just a quick question I had gastric bypass Wednesday the 18th and I feel alot better but I keep having a tight knot feeling under my right breast and it just feels really heavy.. has anyone had this? Is it normal? I plan to call my surgeons office Monday. It's not painful it's just more irritating because it feels like a tight heavy ball. [emoji53] Tia

Is your heart disease is in remission? Are you doing better etc? Any feedback would be great thank you for taking out of your time and giving us some hope with your experience.

I’m almost two months out and I’ve noticed in the last two weeks I went from being constipated to have diarrhea every time I eat. The last few days I can barely keep anything but liquid down and any time I take a bite of anything no matter how small it feels like a brick in my stomach. I’ve even been vomiting. Any advice or anyone go through this?

I Had gastric bypass Oct 2017. I was 274 at my highest. Now I am 150lbs and I couldn't feel better then I do now. The amount of confidence that comes with weightloss is remarkable. [emoji3059][emoji3059][emoji3059]

  27. I had RNY on 04 Aug, so I’m 4 days post-op and this morning was my worst morning yet. Super nauseated, can’t drink my water b/c it hurts (and yes I’ve tried it at all different temperature) and my protein shakes taste disgusting to me. I’m so worried I’m going to get dehydrated…any tips/tricks/advice? What is a realistic amount of water to be able to tolerate at this point? I’m worried I’m failing! ?

Good Morning, Day 5 post RYN surgery here in Toronto. Pain has gone and wounds are healing nicely. I have lost 25 lbs. in total with 17 lbs. since 8/10 pre-surgery SlimTime and now 8 lbs. since surgery. I was able to get 60 grams of protein in me for the 1st time since surgery but still feeling very sluggish and tire very quickly. I try to walk for 5 minutes every hour but need to sit and rest. I also have a very raspy voice oddly enough that makes me sounds weak. Anybody who can let me know their experience and when I might turn a corner on energy would be great. I like being active and don't want to push myself too hard too soon.

So I was telling my brother about how I’m doing well on the pre-op liquid diet (down 14 lbs in 10 days!) and he says “Just think, if you’d just do that regularly you wouldn’t have to go through surgery.” I know its just ignorance and he doesn’t get it, but it still hurts. Feeling down on myself right now.

  31. I'm wondering what in the world makes me think I can do this. What makes me think I can keep to the diet post op? I'm so lazy when it comes to cooking. I don't have a lot of spoons where that is concerned. I don't have room in my kitchen. I am not a good cook and I hate making anything vaguely complicated. I was ordering takeout two times a week until recently because I don't like cooking. Now I have to learn this whole new way of cooking and the mere thought stresses me out. I need cookbooks for idiots with no cooking skills, and I need more spoons. I hate cooking. I'm going to hate trying new recipes even more. I know, I know. If I think I can't, then I can't. But …

Hi, My name is Trapper I had a Gastric Bypass about 3 weeks ago. I'm currently on the puree stage and start soft foods August 24th, My main concern right now(besides how annoying it is not being able to eat what I want lol) is when can I drink normal again? Before my surgery I was always thirsty and I still am, It takes a lot of willpower to not just chug a water or something. When does this "sipping" of drinks stop? Does it stop? I've tried to slowly see how much I can handle drinking but if I drink too much I tend to burp a lot or get a bubbling in my throat like indigestion or acid reflux I don't really know. Anyway it's uncomfortable because I'm used to being abl…

Hello! I hope some people can give some advice! I have been stewing on this for a number of weeks, and I am not really sure what to do. I will start by saying that my program is in Canada, and it is set up a bit different than most Americans. I go to a bariatric clinic that includes the psychologist, internal medicine doc, Dietitian, Nurse. The surgeon you are referred to after you have jumped through the hoops with the other professions. You are assigned the surgeon who does your surgery, for the most part, you don't get to shop for one...and they have little to do with the Diet/Medical Part (vitamins, labs, etc). The surgeons are general surgeons that obviously kno…

  38. Hi everyone I’m curious to know what everyone is using for calcium supplements after having gastric bypass surgery. I am three months postop doing very well but had been using Caltrate chews until they recently discontinued them after further research I found that the calcium carbonate was not a good choice and that the calcium citrate is recommended so I ordered some chewables on the BariatricPal website my dietitian said I will never be able to take calcium in the capsule form again after a bypass and I’m curious if others were told the same thing. I understand we cannot take any kind of calcium gummy’s either. These calcium chews are the way too expensive to keep pur…

Hey there! Hope you all are having a lovely day/night. I have my first dietician visit tomorrow where they'll do some blood work, take my weight, check my metabolism etc. I'm not even scheduled for wls until after October 2021. I'm wondering what the diet will be like until then. Is it the liver shrinking diet for a couple of months or is that just a couple weeks before surgery? Anyone know what kind of diet they put you on and will I have to buy a bunch of specialty protein powders?

Just wanted to give an update on how my experience went. I always found it helpful to hear other posters experiences. Surgery was Monday, 8/9. Arrival time was noon. I was scheduled for 1:30 but they didn't take me in until 2:30ish. I had a large hiatal hernia that was repaired so between that and the bypass it took almost the full 4 hours. I barely remember recovery. I heard them talking about putting a catheter in but I didn't feel it. (Side note: During this process I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Never any symptoms. I hate the mask and haven't really slept well since I got it. I usually use the full mask but the nose mask just seemed easier to take. …

  45. Hi there! I'm an RN and having a revision surgery (sleeve to RNY). I'm currently being seen at the UCSD bariatric dept but have had nothing but problems with them. I had insurance approval, but without explanation they literally refused to let me make an appointment for almost 6 months. I finally called them and said that I've been getting railroaded for 6 months and that I wanted to speak to someone who could actually help me. That worked and I got an appointment, but not until after they told me that my original approval had expired and that I needed to get another one from my primary doc!!! Anyhow, I've been through the entire pre-op process and weekly classes etc. a…

  46. I think one of the worst things in life for me is the not knowing. Not knowing if what I am doing is right or wrong. So I am reaching out to others to see what your thoughts are about where I am so far. I am 10 days post op and live on skim milk and cream of wheat cereal. I haven't gone to the bathroom in a couple of days but have some gas, so maybe its just a process. Do you feel like I am on the right food and if not what can I do to be there? I have no pain or problems other than going potty for a few days.

Hi all, I'm new. I'm from the UK. I'm trying to decide between a sleeve and a bypass. I think a bypass may be a better fit but I'm scared about getting urgent diarrhea and whether more foods are off limits with a bypass? I think it's probably about the same for either but the bypass is a bit more scary because ts more invasive. I know everyone is different and what happens to one person might not happen to another but I'm just trying to get a gauage. I know you have to learn your foods and if you try something new you would do it at home ......I suppose I'm looking for reassurance ..,and honesty lol ?

I have lost 19 pounds in six weeks and was told by my surgeon that I have not lost enough weight. I am 48 years old, post hysterectomy, and struggle to do my very best, but the scales don't move. I have resorted to putting up the scales, because at this point I have lost any motivation. I will keep doing my best to eat right but I am over it. My doctor told me that when I come back, 09/24, I should be down at least 20 more pounds. How in the world? I drink protein shakes, I put protein powder in my drinks, I drink water.....I am even exercising. What more…
