Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well. My RNY was on the 12th of july so I'm 18 days out (or 2,5 weeks). I'm almost afraid to say it but everything has been going fine and I almost feel like a freak of nature reading these boards. I started eating purees after 10 days, as my program describes, and can easily eat a meal of 50gram fish/meat (1.7 ounces) + 30 gram mashed potatoes (1 ounce) + 50 gram apple sauce (also 1.7 ounces). These are my nutritionist's guidelines, but it feels like I'm eating a lot compared to fellow 2-weekers. Is anyone else feeling okay after sugery without complaints and eating just fine??

Positive post for people living with diabetes and in the pre op phase. I became a diabetic at 29 in 2018 my first blood sugar reading was 329 A1C 13.5.I was put on meds metaformin and insulin, but changed my lifestyle and was running too many lows so was taken off. In 2020 I started to get real bad yeast infections( TMI) checked my blood sugar 521 A1C 11.5 scheduled an appointment with a endocrinologist was put on humalog and trujao soloster. After getting my A1C down to 6. I was put on ozempic and trujao. Two weeks after surgery I was told discount all meds and that I didn’t have to see my endocrinologist anymore. Since surgery resting sugar is always 70 never below and …

How much do you all actually eat now? I’m about a month and a half post op and I eat about q/2 to 3/4 cup of food. Is this about right or no? I’m just trying to see how much everyone eats further out or even closer to surgery. Thanks!!!

I had my gastric bypass on November 15. Four days later and I'm finally able to stay awake a full day, although I'm cuddled up with my heating pad. I tried my first real walk yesterday and when I got home I had alot of stomach pain and some swelling. Is this normal? Should I be binding my stomach?

  9. My first post here after lurking for MANY months! I just had my appointment with my doctor after completing all my testing. It took me 2 1/2 months to get the appointment which was very frustrating. I'm glad I called to schedule it when I did! I had no idea how backed up she was due to Covid. She will be getting information from the hospital within the next two weeks for January OR availability and will be able to give me a surgery date soon. It feels like this process has taken forever! When I was done with all my pre-op labs/testing in the beginning of September and couldn't get an appointment till mid November, I started to lose focus. I couldn't even start to …

Had my RNY October 5th. I was diabetic, so getting off those meds was goal #1. After the 2-week pre-op diet, I had come off all my meds, but was hesitant to say I would be free from those after surgery. Had my appointment with my diabetes doc at 4-weeks post-op, she declared my diabetes was now in remission, and we said our goodbyes! Daily glucose sticks are between 80-92...no matter when I test them! Goal #2...reduce size & get back to feeling "normal", whatever that will be!

Well here I am, 27 days away from bypass and I’m in a panic! I’m starting to think “I can do this by myself”. My family believes in me and has encouraged me saying, “you’re doing so good, you can do this without surgery”. Part of me believes that because honestly I’ve never maintained healthy eating AND exercise for 6 months in my life and here I am!!!I guess I’m just scared of all the risks and what if here I am healthy, I become one of those sickly, complication patients? Is this normal? To get cold feet? I don’t know if I should postpone or just go for it…any encouragement or advice is appreciated!

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and would love some input into the concerns I have which pertain to my weight loss/progress. So I am 28 weeks post-op as of tomorrow and I feel as though my weight loss is a little slow. So far I have lost 4 stone and 8lbs (64 pounds) but I am struggling to hit the five stone mark. On Facebook, I am part of a group that has new and post-op patients from the clinic that I did my surgery with but everyone’s progress seems to be much better than mine. I am 24, 5ft 4 and my starting weight was 21 stone. I am grateful to be currently 16 stone 13lbs but I feel as though I should be loosing more. Am I worrying too much…

Hey y'all. I'm a little less than a month away from my endoscopy. My doc said basically if I'm clear anywhere from 2 weeks after that I can get my gastric bypass. In the meantime while I wait, I struggle with depression. I know that everything is coming so soon but I can't help but feel scared and stuck. I don't know who else to talk to about this. I feel like I should be happy and excited but I'm overwhelmed and scared of failure before it even begins. I don't know if I need support or tough love but I'm really struggling to stay grounded. I'm just venting but if you have any advice or positive/success stories you want to share, I'd love to hear it. Thanks and hope yo…

  16. It's been 2008 since I had a very successful surgery. Seriously, I swam in SF Sharkfest from Alcatraz to SF 2 yrs in a row. As I've gotten older, I have learned a few things I'd like to pass on to those who might not know this. Someone who has had bariatric surgery can only drink 5 oz of alcohol (wine/beer) and then they are legally drunk (trust me, you look act like you have had way too many drinks--slurred speech, staggering, falling down) and if you were to blow into a breathalyzer, you would get a reading indicating you are inebriated. Although I hadn't had anything to drink in about 30 yrs, during a few social dinners at our house, I had a small glass of wine and t…

I'm going in next Wednesday for revision from sleeve to bypass, very excited to start this journey again! For those who went through this already, I was curious about eating/drinking after the surgery. After my sleeve, they had me eating real food the next day, starting with eggs for Breakfast and then for other meals chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, blended very smooth. I was able to take in about 4-6 oz per meal with no problem, also got my liquids and Protein in. I know that the bypass pouch is significantly smaller than the sleeve, so I was wondering what the diet is like after surgery. I know they want us to drink 64 oz of Water a day, but is that even…

Hi all I had my bypass in February and all the sudden i have been dealing with horrible burning in my throat and chest. I've been taking Omeprazole 20mg twice a day and even tried adding in a pepcid complete but I'm still suffering. I also sleep elevated. I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this. I need to have a endoscopy done.

Sitting at hospital waiting on pre-op after having the same meeting earlier today with surgeon. Went over several pages of do’s and don’ts, the 1st week post op through week 3. So much structure and so many supplements and vitamins. Liquids for 3 weeks… A lot to “digest” (pardon the pun) at once. From the 19th till Jan 1 no chewable food. There goes Christmas along with Thanksgiving…??

My wife had her RNY in 2019, I remember her pain was so intense that even clearing her throat would hurt her abdomen. Doing my research on how to minimize this type of discomfort beside taking your pain meds post surgery one can also have some relief by using a pillow or a brace to help you support the abdomen. Has anyone had experience with this and did it work for you? Any suggestion on a particular brand? And thank you in advance for all the replies this is a wonderful online community I am grateful for this forum it has really giving me hope and help me manage my questions and navigate thru my anxiety.

I've had rally high B12 levels ever since my bypass in 2017. I take Celebrate 45 multivitamin, which has 1,000mcg of B12 in it, so I'm essentially taking 3000mcg of B12 daily. But even when I stopped taking my vitamins for 3 months prior to my 1 year checkup, my B12 levels were still through the roof (over 2000) Has anyone else had this issue and has it been an issue for you if you have? I've read highly elevated B12 levels can lead to depression (I already have major depression clinically diagnosed), dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease. My PCP is worried, but my bariatritions don't seem concerned. All I get is "that's fairly common with gastric bypass" I have no energ…

I have been stalled for about 6 weeks. So, from about the 5.5 month mark until almost 7 months out from bypass. I don't know what to do to break this stall and it's starting to feel like maybe this is just the end of the weight loss from surgery? I am down 73lbs which I know is a lot, but I still have a lot to go. At 5,2 I should be 110-130 and that's 80-100lbs away. Any suggestions? Encouragement? Also, I am loosing horrendous amounts of hair. Have been for almost 4 months! I thought that was supposed to end after 3 months or so of loosing hair.

Hello all, I had my Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y, Laparoscopic) August 17th 2005. I had my gall bladder taken out in May of 2007. I can't say I remember when this started but I know I had talked to a doctor before about it. Sometimes I'll have a very bad onset of pain in my stomach. It will feel like I need to poop badly, instead nothing will move. I usually deal with this pain between 15-30 minutes. Then Suddenly I will hear this loud deep gargle from around my left side, the sounds sorta sound like something releasing pressure or steam. The feeling that goes with it i can not describe at all. I wanna say it feels like an inner burp. Then all the pain goes away l…

Currently I am down 52lbs and still want to lose at least 30lbs more. If you don't mind sharing your experience I would appreciate it!

  39. Warning: TMI. Hi all. I had my gastric bypass on 10/6 so I am 16 days post op. I am having diarrhea to the point of incontinence and have resorted to wearing a pad to prevent any accidents. I’m so mortified. My diet has advanced to soft foods like scrambled eggs, yogurts cottage cheeses, etc. My surgeon is very liberal on advancing the post op diet. I don’t have dumping because it happens at random times. This is completely new for me. Before the surgery I had just the opposite issue and dealt with constipation occasionally. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. Thanks in advance.

However, I don’t feel any restriction and I don’t feel full(I dont feel hungry either, but I eat to reach my protein goals). Should I be able to eat this much so soon out of surgery? Am I ea…

Dear All i have 3 weeks post op. Two Questions for the community: 1- I have started losing a lot of weight in the first two weeks and now have actually gained some even though my food intake is still in the liquid phase. Is this normal, read a lot and its apparently normal. 2- Water consumption, is it normal that fluids flow right through me, i am to gulp a lot of water circa a 500 ml bottle at once and not feel any pain. I just had a 200 ml protein shake, 7 oz , of liquid alongside 6 oz(170ml) of light very liquid soup and about 400ml(13.5 oz)of water and nothing no pain no feeling of vomiting no pain....is that normal?

On New Year’s Day 2021 I weighed 295…. Current weight 173! Went from a size 20W/22W to an 8/10. The comments I’m getting now after eight months range from you’ve lost too much weight, to how much more weight can you possibly lose? It’s hard to explain to people that I’m just following the plan, I’m not hungry, and I feel like I can’t control this weight loss. If I’m only eight months postop can I expect to lose at least another 20 pounds by the first year? I know I sound insane but I just want to w…
