  1. Started by shriner37,

Tomorrow I will be three weeks out from bypass surgery. For the past six days my surgeon's diet program has had me eating soft, moist proteins, with a target of eventually getting to 3oz per meal before adding in non-starchy vegetables. I'm really surprised at how sensitive my stomach is to food capacity. Sometimes I can eat 2.5 to 2.75 ounces of food and feel fine. The next day the same amount makes me feel awful as though I ate a pound of food. It's really something how sensitive my new stomach is as it heals and how even 1/4 ounce of extra food can create all kinds of discomfort.

  2. Started by fourmonthspreop,

Have my first post op airplane ride tomorrow. So fricken nervous. The last time I was on a plane, I weighed around 324 lbs. I flew southwest and the buckle didn't close, I was so damn embarrassed I covered the buckle with my arm against myself and just prayed the attendant didn't notice. Now im about 270 lbs, still have a ways to go but im terrified the buckle won't fit again. I've flown at 280 and the buckle fit on jet blue and coach american. I'm hoping it'll be okay but still have so much anxiety. I got the bigger seats in the front on American Airlines this time but Ughhhh can this weight come off already? This is probably one of the worst parts about being obese. I …

  3. Hi all I am 4 months post gastric bypass and so far so good. The first couple of weeks were hard but I’ve got into the grove now. I don’t seem to have any kind of issues with meat, fruit, fat etc. but I haven’t really tried anything with sugar yet apart from the occasional spoon in a cup of tea now and then. Does anyone find it’s sugar that causes dumping? Not that I intend to go on a sugar binge but the occasional sweet thing would be nice, just scared of dumping!

  4. Started by Flab-U-Less Forever,

I am 9 weeks post op today. I am now JUST Obese. No longer morbidly obese. No longer severely obese. JUST Obese. Soon I will be JUST Overweight...I can't wait!

  5. Hi I am always worried about weight gain after my surgery I am 4 months post op , and there's days that go by and I only eat very few calories but all from healthy foods and there is usually one day out of the week that I feel that I m like a little piggy , and I m scared to death to get on the scale the next day but it's CRAZY because instead of gaining any weight I actually usually loose more? Has anyone else been seeing this?

Hi. I had surgery on 21-March. I was on my treadmill 3 days later, walking slowly but am back up to jogging or walking fast depending on daily motivation. I was cleared on Monday to start lifting weights (light <25lbs for the next two weeks and then I can increase) again, which I started, also on Monday. I feel great, but oh boy am I hungry - which I was expecting. I'm eating about 950 calories a day, but I'd be lying if I said my stomach isn't growling at days end and when I wake up. I eat 6 small meals a day, protein is around 80g/day and I drink about 100-110 oz of water daily. I am seriously scared to bump my calories to support the weight training. Has any…

  8. Hey! I'm 3 months post op from gastric bypass. I've been doing really well getting in my protein and vitamins everyday and the weight is coming off. I feel like however I don't eat nearly enough veggies as pre op and wish I could add more for overall health, wellness and gut health. Do you have any tips or tricks on incorporating more veggies into your meals? I can't really have raw vegetables or raw leafy greans but raw cucumber, raw fruit, raw shredded carrot, raw onion all seem to be fine in moderation. I absolutely HATE mushy cooked vegetables and mostly ate all my veggies raw before surgery (while doing pre op weight loss). Everytime I put cooked vegetables on my…

So I’m almost to my surgery date for RNY. I’ve had a high normal or slightly higher than normal hemoglobin and hematocrit for years. This is due to overall metabolic/hormone issues associated with obesity/PCOS.  I’ve had the work ups and that is all it is. I’m ordering Vitamins and while they recommend Iron for all bypass patients I’m wondering if anyone has been in this situation where they were slightly high before and didn’t need replacement afterward? I don’t want to overuse it but don’t want to be anemic either. The recommend 45mg of iron standard and when I mentioned it to the bariatric nurse she said for sure get the iron. Just wondering if anyone had this s…

  10. I find it extremely difficult to eat as I am not hungry. Everything tastes bad, and I don’t enjoy eating. I have tried to eat but sometimes it hurts and I always get full. I am taking my multivitamin and calcium as required and drinking water and Premier Protein shakes-plus eating yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar free popsicles, oatmeal, eggs and soup. Today I tried rotisserie chicken, quinoa, and one baby carrot (I was looking forward to it) and I ate a few bites chicken the entire carrot and 3 spoonfuls of quinoa. Meat of any kind tastes bad. I’m a bit scared - will it get better? My dilemma is now that I’m in the stabilization phase I am overwhelmed by the amount of food…

Hey! I had my bypass Feb 14 this year. It's been pretty smooth sailing honestly up until the last week. Everytime I eat, about 15 minutes later I get extremely nauseous and even start retching. I threw up the other day actually after eating a protein yogurt but nothing came out. Just some red stuff from a pill I took. I'm not eating sugar or high carb foods. It's all stuff I ate before no problem. Liquids seem to be fine but I've had things like eggs, avocado, protein yogurt, cheese and cooked vegetables and wow do I feel like I need to throw up after. I eat slow and stick to small portions too. And then every now and then after eating I get incredibly fatigued and feel l…

  12. Hey y'all. I got gastric bypass surgery on 3/29 and for the first two weeks I thought everything was going well. I was meeting my goals, losing weight, etc. But then the third week I transitioned to soft foods and it all went downhill. So I decided to eat some swiss cheese with some bologna bits and that was fine! Ate some goldfish as well and was feeling good. I attempted to sneak a French fry or two the following night and I felt like the food was just stuck in my stomach. I felgike every breathe I took I needed to burp but if I would try to, it'd just be foam/mucus. Eventually, I threw up. I had felt this way before occasionally during the pureed phase but just chalke…

  13. Hi all, I take Effexor and its a capsule full of little balls and it says do not chew or crush. I have serious mental side effects if I miss taking this pill for just ONE day. For instance if I take it today and skip tomorrow on Saturday I will be feeling the effects of missing it. So I assume I wont be able to take it on my surgery morning cuz it would be in my stomach possibly for I don't know how long so the morning after my surgery I would HAVE to get those meds back in my system Am I going to be able to swallow a pill less than 24 hours after surgery? I will ask the clinic about this but I just needed to get this current obsessive thought out of my head…

Hi: New to this site, thanks for any imput. I am fighting the post op blues still and I am learning what I can and can't eat, soft food wise. I am experiencing sort of a wave of nausea when something hits my stomach, it usually goes away, except once when I didn't chew enough, then it came back. Anyone experience this? Anyway I sort of dread eating now, and I had a really hard time even getting near the 500-700 calories a day my doctor recommended. (I'm sure this has been asked many, many times before) But will I ever enjoy eating again? I'm not hungry but it is difficult to see others eat things I use to love, and this adds to my feelings of depression and …

  16. Started by Siameseplease,

My surgery was March 7th, and I've lost 33 pounds so far (starting weight 193). Lately my weight has been doing a weird thing where I will gain and lose the same half a pound or so for a few days in a row. (I typically weigh the same time every morning) I don't understand how I could gain ANY weight when I'm barely eating anything. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi I'm going to a big wedding and really want to have a drink there. I am 3 and half weeks post op. Also my social gathering amount all my friends I've had for over 20 years all gather for drinks on weekends and I'm being to feel left out of my social group. Would I harm myself by having just 2 gin and orange every Saturday at this stage? In 2 days it will be 4 weeks post op.

I have regained a ton of weight back after Covid. I would like to find a great doctor, Nutrionist to help me evaluate my diet and get back on track. It would be nice if they did hormone evaluation too, but not required. Any referrals in Dallas, Richardaon, Plano, Frisco, Allen, or DFW metroplex is appreciated!!!! I want an accountability physician or Nutrionist or dietician. I want to hear your stories. Thanks everyone! Melanie Kirk

Hi! I am new to this forum, and have been working on all my pre-op stuff in order for surgery in June. I was wondering if anyone decided not to tell anyone about bypass surgery except their significant other (who supports my choice 100%). I just don't know if my family would be as supportive. I feel like they would think that surgery was the "easy way" etc. I am not sure I want that negativity. I am asking if the support of 1 or 2 people is enough to keep you motivated or if I should just tell my family.

  21. Hi all! I just joined this a forum a cpl of days ago and so glad I did ?I'm due for a gastric bypass and hiatus hernia repair on the 27th of April. Im on the 3 shakes a day and 2 cups of low starch vegetables diet atm. Currently 220lbs I've managed to lose 20lbs in 4 months prior to this liquid diet, Im glad I did as I have another 77lbs to go after the surgery, hope it is all worth the wait! I'm reading a lot of good advice and great information which I didn't know before I joined and I'm really enjoying sharing with others's ideas and experiences who are in simular situation as myself. Wishing everyone best of luck ???❤️

I would like to lose at least 7 of those. We all know the struggle and I fight it everyday still. Any advice on how to drop those few lbs? Can't seem to do it. Thanks so much and many blessings!!

Hi all! Thank you for being so supportive and forthcoming to my previous post. I am getting closer and closer to having all my requirements done (and closer to a surgery date!) I do have a few questions that I am hoping any other RNY patient can answer. 1. How long after surgery did it take for you to notice that you were losing weight? 2. What was one of your favorite items to eat right after surgery (would love recipes)? 3. How long after surgery did it take you to feel amazing? 4. When exercising, was it hard to get in to the habit of doing so? If it was hard, how did you keep yourself motivated? I am sure I will have a ton more questions late…

Was scheduled for the 27th April! Just had a call this morning from the hospital's surgical unit, apparently there are no beds in the hospital they're all occupied with covid patients, the next available date is May 16th and even THAT'S not guaranteed! I'm not stressing about ANOTHER the 3 weeks to wait, it's just my work situation we had to find someone to cover for me, now I've got 3 weeks or even longer to sit around and do nothing (loss of income) ☹️ and the liquid diet & preparations- all for nothing ??

Hey there! I'm in a bit of a predicament. I am running low on vitamins and just ordered more but I leave for a trip on Thursday. The vitamins might get here after I'm gone. I have some different leftover vitamins but they don't have iron in them. While I'm gone for 4 days, do you think it'd be okay to take the bariatric vitamin without iron and an over-the-counter iron supplement just for those 4 days while I'm away? I will say I am slightly anemic since surgery so I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to go into the office to buy them because they upcharge them by 200% (26 online, 60 in the doctor's). Anyone try a non-bariatric iron supplement for emergency cases? …

  26. Hi all, I'm 6 months bypass post op. I am striving to live as naturally as possible and do not believe that pharmaceuticals are the answer to everything the way the medical industry does. I can't seem to get my team to answer the question - what's the difference between bariatric friendly capsules (such as my multivitamin and the prescriptions they love to write me) and the capsules for other products such natural forms of supplementation? When I look at the inactive ingredient list, they're identical. So why must I take Omeprazole (which has the long term side effect of dementia among others) and not Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root Supplement with Aloe Vera (lin…

So I am doing a sleeve to bypass on 5/6/22. I remember when I had my sleeve I did have some hair loss. I can’t remember how bad it was though. Wondering if anyone with short hair post op had issues with hair loss? Wished you had more hair to avoid signs of hair loss? My hair is down to my mid back and it’s truly time for a hair cut in general, but I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just because hair loss is probably coming ?

In 1 month, it will have been a year since my surgery. I have gone from 286 lbs to 168 lbs. I like how I look and I feel better in some ways. However, my energy level has not improved much and I am still soooo tired. Also my pain issues have actually worsened and I cant go a day without sucking childrens liquid ibuprofen straight from the bottle! But I was hanging in there and doing ok. But for the past 2-3 weeks, I constantly belch and feel icky for 15-30 minutes after eating. Any ideas as to what may be going on? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

  31. Started by CNelson,

Hello, I had Biliopancreatic Diversion surgery back in June of 1983 - in fact I was #86 to have that surgery by my doctor. Since then I have kept the weight off, but have had continual digestion and intestinal issues. I cannot find any doctor (medical or naturopathic) that can honestly address my issues and I am looking for other patients that I might be able to discuss their life after surgery and how they found good competent medical care. I would like to find others that have led a long term "after weight loss surgery" life.

  33. Hi Everyone, Has anyone had a barium swallow test done after gastric bypass surgery to check if their pouch has stretched or for any other reason? I had a barium swallow done as I suffer from LPR (silent reflux) where I aspirate non-acidic reflux into my throat and lungs. The results show that my Jejunum (small intestine) has stretched to the same size as my pouch. Would love to hear from anyone that has had a barium swallow which has shown that not only has their pouch stretched, but the jenumum (small intestine) has stretched also after the join between the stomach pouch and jejunum. Had my bypass 2017 and ever since I've had problems with wind and bowl movements. They are offensive, often loose and you have to spend ages just flushing the toilet to make them go down. The wind is also uncontrollable, it's embarrassing. Has anyone else found the same and found anything that works.

  37. Hello all, I had RYGB surgery March 25th, 2022 and I'm struggling. I've been in and out of emergency with nausea and some throwing up. I'm weak and dizzy and finding it hard to move forward. I did my research and knew that this is a possibility but dang it's hard. Even water causes stomach issues. I'm barely getting my protein drinks in. Is this common? I'm hoping to get an appointment with my surgeon to talk about this. I just want this reversed. I know it's not possible but I'm miserable.

I went shopping today, not something I have ever bothered with since being a teenager. I always shopped on eBay or catalogues. I wanted some trousers that didn't have big baggy legs. I guessed I was a UK 22 but they only had Size 20 so I bought them and tried them on at home - They fit beautifully, Oh my I am so happy

  40. I’ve been trying to work out of a stall, and I did confirm my bust out with negative scale action. The thing is, I noticed that I was drinking more water than normal, like my body demanded it. I was breathing deeper, not panting, just like deep yoga breaths, I was sleepy earlier (good for combating night snacking). And I was finding myself chilly on this lovely Spring. What clues does your body tell you BEFORE you see the scale when you’re burning calories? Or what clues do you see when you are maintaining properly?

I went for my 3-month post-op follow-up exam today. It went well and apparently I am very much on track. Yay, me! ? Interestingly, however, I was informed that I was consuming too much protein. Really? The PA told me to hit 60 to 80 grams daily, but I've been averaging closer to 100 grams. I'll cut out the daily protein shake, reducing my total intake by 30 grams. This just seems odd to me, but I'm going to do whatever they tell me to do.

I do have a question about the preop diet. Old doc did 2weeks, new doc does 7 days? Anyone have any info/research on why one is better than the other or IF there are better time frames with one vs the other?

Not a massive machine gun. But these little capsules. They're filled with lipase, protease, lactase and amylase enzymes. If I'm having any foamies or digestive issues I crack the capsule and pour the powder into a tablespoon of water. Does the job in ten minutes, like magic!

  47. Hey! I'm happy to report that after getting on extra strength stool softeners and extra water, I'm going regular again. I never thought I'd be happy to go to the bathroom yet here I am.. Anyway, I'm terrified of gallbladder attacks and getting my galbladder removed. Supposedly its common after weight loss surgery. I noticed that my stool is very light colored, like yellowish pale which I hear is a sign of bile issues but I also eat a lot of dairy, yogurt for breakfast, cheese for snacks, protein drinks and so on. Is this the first sign of gallbladder issues or just my new weird diet? Anyone have experience with this post op from gastric bypass? Thanks!

I had a gastric bypass about 7 weeks ago and while I am down 43 pounds so far I am a bit concerned. I have had a hunger feeling since the day after surgery, I was able to drink without issue post surgery. As my diet progressed I found I was able to tolerate all foods fine and eat and drink as I did prior to surgery without any of the signs and signals others had warned me about such as the foamies, the urge to vomit, nausea, clear full feeling etc. I force myself to stop eating at around 6 ounces of food but I do not feel satisfied after. Also I have found that I am craving sweets which I never really ate pre surgery. And as of this last week the scale stopped going down …

Hello All, There are certainly many posts about non scale victories. Like many of you, I have clothes of various sizes in my closet. There is no need to purchase anything new yet, so I have not experienced the joy of shopping for smaller clothes. However, I was forced to purchase a couple SMALLER belts to use with the aforementioned clothes. Is there any better feeling than losing weight? I must say I truly felt joy disposing of the old, larger belts. I heard Oprah say this once, "..losing weight feels better than any food tastes." I agree. Please share any recent non scale victory you may have had. I like to read them. Best, AnotherGuy
