I just had gastric bypass surgury and I'm not having the problems that other people are. I haven't thrown up or had dumping syndrome.I'm in the liquid phase about to go to purees.I don't have that full or tight feeling after drinking or eating. It's like my stomach is streching or something because I had 6 oz of tomato soup and had no tightness.I always set a timer so I slow down with eating.I'm a bit concerned because most people can't handle that much or get sick but I don't how worried should I be?

Hi, I had bypass surgery on 18th of May and have been struggling since. I am having trouble with food, most food to be honest. I get a stuck feeling in my chest, sometimes it comes up sometimes it doesnt. It burns as it is going down and I dont know why. I have followed the rule and transitioned from clear fluid, fluid, puree, soft and now solids Some days I can eat a cracker and cheese, other days I cant get down mashed pumpkin. Its frustrating and i'd like to know if anyone else has these issues. I'm having issues with the toilet as well which is causing me pain in my left side and bloating in my tummy. Any help or advice is apprec…

Hi everyone. Tomorrow I’m having a colonoscopy, the 1st one since my bypass over 4 years ago. I’m a little worried about taking all the SuTab pills with all the water that is required. The doctor’s office said that my stomach acid will breakdown the pills quickly. But I don’t really have any stomach acid. I’m afraid the pills are gonna get washed down to quickly & won’t work. Anyone else have to do the awful prep after a bypass?

My bypass surgery will be in early January 2023. Can anyone tell me what to honestly expect postop? I've heard that the gas is terrible and that it makes it hard to breathe? What is he pain level like during recovery? Was sleeping comfortable?

I have a lap-band (since 2009) and I know all there is to know about that BUT, now that I am moving towards revision to bypass I feel a little overwhelmed with all that I don't know. What is the best piece of advice you can give me? Perhaps something you wish you knew about before or something you wish you did differently. ANYTHING!

I had my consultation for VSG today. Everything I have heard such as not eating and drinking, chewing gum ect after surgery the surgeon said I could do. He has been practicing for 4 years. He got great reviews which is why I was interested in the first place. I just found it interesting that in all my research I found every surgeon against certain things post op and this surgeon said I can do them. Has anyone every gotten a second consultation with someone else? I found a great surgeon with decades of experience and thinking of consulting with him instead. Am I over reacting? Should this be a reason for concern?

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but do you guys usually wait to drink after eating cream soup or broth? I'm 11 days post op and like 2-3 days ago I ate/drank broth a bit too quickly and I felt nauseated. I've had a very good experience very little neausea and have been hitting my water and protein goals. TIA

Hey Everyone! So, I am 7-weeks post op, robot-assisted RnY gastric bypass. I have recently had some increased diaphragm pressure and discomfort. No real pain, but pressure and it is quite uncomfortable. I'm able to eat and drink. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting. I'm going to reach out to my surgical team, but I wondered if anyone else might have had this, too. It's possible that this was caused by wearing elastic-waist pants that were too snug - I did that for a couple of days in a row. Thanks! Jeanne

Hi guys - I had my GB surgery with hiatal hernia repair on Friday. Came home Saturday. I was feeling woozy yesterday and today and the nurse called and she told me I’m not getting in enough water. Any tips on getting water and protein in. I cannot imagine how I’m supposed to get 32-64oz of water in daily. Does this get water with time?

Hi Everyone, I’m 8 weeks post op and I’ve been having nausea throughout the day for about three weeks now. My doctor ordered zofran and I wouldn’t say it’s been helpful, the nausea still comes and goes all day or lasts for a few hours off and on. My mouth will just water terribly and it feels terrible and I don’t want to do anything because I feel sick. With the nausea came a bad taste in my mouth off and on and nothing tastes the same that I eat either. The thought of even my favorite foods sounds yuck. I’ve paid attention to try and pin point what is triggering the nausea but I see no rhyme or reason to it! (I take omeprazole 40 mg twice a day, which I’ve ta…

So I had surgery 7/8/21 and things have been great I've been very lucky and I'm down 100 pounds and have maintained it. My issue I'm having right now has been going on for about two weeks. Anytime I have eaten dinner my stomach gets extremely upset to the point that I might throw up for about 30 minutes. They only thing I can tie to it is either how late it is or how heavy it is. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't think it's my gallbladder cause that would be anytime I eat not just dinner time and I'm not over eating either cause I know my limits.

Hi y’all! I’m about 3 weeks post op and it’s been going pretty well. I did have a question - I have to take my meds with food but I need water to take them. How do I do that and still accomplish the not drinking with a meal? I’ve been trying to just do minimal sips. If I take without food I get really sick. Any advice?

Hi everyone, I just had my gastric bypass surgery and hiatal hernia repair on Tuesday. Getting into the groove of drinking water every 15 min but did a bad job yesterday. I’m really struggling with this liquid diet and can’t wait until I can eat soft foods after my doctor clears me on Dec 12 for my follow up appt. Any tips on making it through the liquid diet? I’m getting tired of soups and protein shakes only. I’ve lost 5 pounds since my surgery so far so I’m on the right path also 15 pounds since starting my liquid diet 3 weeks ago. One day at a time.

Hello. I’ve read post and comments on these forums that state that many have low energy and fatigue post surgery. Is there anything that we can take to have more energy? I’m hearing the coffee is a no for some doctors and it’s ok for others. Anything else to help bring up your energy? Also, does this subside after a while? My surgery is 12/2 and when I return to work, I want to make sure I’m not feeling tired and can’t perform

Ok so I might just be weird but at over 100lbs lost I now notice my tailbone when I sit on firm surfaces... like it's uncomfortable! Going to get an xray to make sure one of my overweight falls didn't do damage that I just didn't feel until now but anyone else experience this? It's uncomfortable to drive now, I have to use a pillow.

Hi! Just a little update 4 weeks after my RNY. I'm 43, have lupus and gained a lot of weight after 3 years of steroids. The extra weight adds more complications to my disease and I have really struggled to lose it on my own. I was 309 before surgery, 295 day of and currently at 278. I'm 5'8" and have always been a bigger woman with my lowest weight at 215. But at that weight I was very active, fit and healthy... until I got sick. This has not been an easy process for me and I was really losing my mind at the 3 week mark. But after week 4, I'm finally feeling a little more energy and a little more human. Some things I didn't really expect: I've become lactose intoleran…

Hello Everyone, I'm terrified that I have a stricture, as I've had a couple episodes of food coming up. But the last two days I have become more and more full as the days wears on and it feels like my stomach stays full. Tonight I could not get in enough food before my stomach started hurting. Does this sound like a stricture? If so, I've read an EGD and dilation is done. Does your bariatric surgeon do that? I ask because mine is on maternity leave so I'm scared of what will happen. How soon would this surgery take place? I'm hoping I can at least take protein shakes but I'm burping after every sip. Any advice or information from those who have gone …

Good morning everyone. I just had my yearly labs done. My numbers were pretty good but could be better. I’m curious: for folks years out from RNY, what do your A1C and lipids run? My A1C was 5.1 but my doc said it should be back under 5.0. My LDL (bad cholesterol) was 86 and she also told me it could be lower. Thanks in advance!

Hello All, Looking forward to joining this very supportive group! I appreciate how everyone is so supportive and I hope to return the favor! I'm 2.5 weeks post op and feel very weak. It's not as bad when I'm sitting down but standing makes me feel dizzy at times and today felt like I was going to faint in the shower. Had to jump out and grab a towel to sit down. I'm hitting my water and protein (barely), and taking my supplements. Is this just my body adjusting? My surgeon said that last apporintment but I don't see a lot of improvement. I guess I'm just wondering what others encountered around this time. My main incision where they pulled my gallbladder is still prett…

Hi everyone, I’m the member of a cancer forum having completed treatment for Stage 3 cervical cancer six months ago. I’ve put out feelers to try and find anyone else who had had bypass surgery (RNY) previously, and have drawn a blank. The RNY meant challenges for me, especially as the cancer had spread to my para-aortic lymph nodes, so my stomach and whole gut were irradiated for 6 weeks. The no-ghrelin effect also returns for gastric cancer patients as the radiotherapy knocks out those hunger hormones. Just wondering if there is anyone else on the forum who has had cancer treatment after their RNY?

How do people date after massive weight loss? Regardless of surgery or not. I am married, and don't plan to date but you never know. If it goes South, it's me and great dane for life! Still even self conscious after being together for 18 years! But, my point is in regard to all the extra skin? I have lost over 100 lbs and have 90-100 more to go! I have already had extra skin removed 10 years ago after loosing 140lbs but then gained it back. Now my skin is different. I gained it differently. I have a flat tight lower belly but the top is like an extra pair of boobs now. And frankly, bigger than my actual boobs! I hate my skin but I hate being fat more. I don…

Hello there, I got a mini bypass in February, and I am wondering if maybe it's time to make life easier. I'd like to cut out the daily protein shake I drink and perhaps take vitamins morning and evening instead of four times per day, as I do now. Can anyone please share their experiences? Thank you.

Hello. I am really really struggling. I have only lost 9 lbs at the 6 week mark after gastric bypass surgery. I lost over 50 lbs prior to surgery. I don’t feel restricted but I am totally following my instructions for intake. Today, I tried beginner’s yoga for overweight people and couldn’t even get near the poses. I feel like just giving up.

Hey everyone! I was just thinking, I had my bypass in Feb this year and I'm slowly but surely learning what I can and can't eat. There are randomly some foods I cannot stand now that I'm bypassed and it's not dumping, it just they taste to intense and sickening that I can't do it. Ever since surgery I am OBSESSED with hot tea (never was before). Drink it every day multiple times a day...something about a hot herbal drink feels so good in my esophagus lol Here are things I cannot stand now that im bypassed but used to be able to eat in large amounts: peanuts, peanut butter, any protein peanut powder or anything with peanut flavor, alfredo sauce, full fat cream cheeses or…

Hi all I'm new to the forums. I had gastric bypass surgery on Halloween that just passed. Wondering if anyone else had it on or around the same day and how are you doing so far? I'm trying to get used to everything, sure is a big life changer but for the most part I think I'm doing well. Would love to hear from others in the same boat.

After reading other people's experiences here when they had their psych evaluations, I wasn't nervous at all. I went in and took a test of about 300 questions which took me about a half hour. Then later I met with the doctor and he asked some questions about my lifestyle, work, family, history of anxiety etc. I was in there about 10 minutes and he passed me! On to my last two dietician appointments and hopefully I will get a surgery date for me bypass!

Thanks to all that answered and gave advice prior etc. I screwed up and said I was getting a DS when in fact I am looking for the best price (self Pay) for a Sleeve to Bypass revision. I would very much appreciate everyone's knowledge and help if you know a good place with low prices for this surgery. The closer to the west coast as possible is best as I am in Seattle. Looking forward to hearing from this great forum community! Thank you all! David

Hello hope everyone is doing well … so it’s been 9 weeks since surgery and I’m now wondering how people are doing with exercise? I haven’t started but I am very active throughout my day . My levels of energy has been low lately but I’m thinking it’s because I don’t feel like I’m meeting all my goals and there are times when I’m confused on if I’m eating enough or drinking enough. I don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight and it is discouraging but trying to fight past this feeling . Thanks

Hi guys. I am 1 week and a few days post Op from my sleeve surgery. I’m a little concern because I have notice that I am able to drink water like normal. I’m also able to drink protein shakes without a problem. I had mash potato and I was able to eat a good amount without having to feel horrible. I know everyone is different. I just find it strange. Has anyone dealt with this? I’m just nervous that this surgery did not work.

Hi all, I'm a sleeve patient needing to switch to a bypass due to GERD, and I'm hoping to hear from folks about foods they cannot eat because of their bypass. In particular: How tolerant are you of sweets/sugar? How do you do with "gummy" foods like pasta, rice, and bread? Are there other foods you find painful to eat? Separately, what is people's experience with side effects: Dumping syndrome Flatulence Others I should be aware of? For those who had there bypass 2+ years ago, do you become more tolerant of these foods and/or experience fewer side effects over time? For instance, I couldn't eat ground beef for the f…

I am post op bypass 13 months ( surgery was 10/07/2020) ) and am I now drinking alcohol every night . I have gained back a few pounds Like 8 and am scared to death. I feel like I am heading back toward terrible habits and need to regain back control now. I am working with a Psychologist that's not very good for PTSD issues and major depressive disorder. I have got control of that but I have now a new problem= alcohol!
