I am 7 days post GB! I have been walking multiple times a day for 15 mins a time; plus get up every hour and stand and do my breathing exercises. What sort of exercise worked for you all? What week were you cleared for more? I have to wear surgical / DVT prevention stockings for another week so I get some looks out walking lol (had a very conservative surgeon) who had multiple tests and other things before I even left hospital to ensure no issues so I’m making sure I’m just as conservative and patient!!

I had surgery RNY February 2021. 300 lbs before — I am now 132 lbs 5’7” which is way too skinny in my opinion. My BMI is 20 (getting REAL close to 19). Honestly have a hard time eating even 1400 calories a day, too full! Everyone tells me “eat more” but of course I can’t. I have an appointment with dietician in a few weeks to assess. I want to stabilize, or gain back maybe 20 lbs but can’t seem to be able. Lost 10 lbs in the last 6 months so it’s a slow loss right now. But I am almost afraid to exercise for fear of losing more! Help!

Good Morning: I just wanted to get some feedback in case anyone else has experienced this (I'm quite sure some have). My last bariatric follow-up was fine. He told me my numbers were good and to keep it up. This week, I had a visit with my new primary care doctor. My previous PCP retired after 15 years (which I was very sad about-her retirement was unexpected). I was with her before & after my RNY, and she was very knowledgeable about everything related to the surgery. When I went to the new PCP this week, after he reviewed my numbers (BP was a little high-I was told to stop taking my birth control because it can cause high blood pressure for woman over 35),…

Hi everyone, happy Holidays to all! I'm sending this out because I need accountability here. I've been slowly losing, but at least the scale is heading in the right direction. I was doing great on my life style eating plan, until I baked a couple of batches of sugar cookies for the Grandkids to decorate. They stayed in my freezer for one week. I would grab one here and there. Plus, I baked some brownies for a Christmas function and the left overs are in my freezer! I fell back into old eating patterns, right now I'm under massive stress, aside from the holidays, travel, etc. I went back into stress eating, the more physical pain I was having, the more brownies…

I straight up regret having surgery. I was a low BMI candidate with a bunch of other health factors that got me approved for the procedure. I am weak beyond measure and dizzy everyday. Can barely handle self care without issue. I had post-op rectal bleeding, went back to the hospital for IV hydration, everything is just difficult. I can’t help but feel like I wish I would have just lost the weight on my own. I did WW, keto, boot camp training sessions, you name it and never had long term success. I know people say it gets better with time but when?! I’m a mom of twins, laying around all day just isn’t my style. I wish I never did this :(

I am at 30 days as of today and things have gone surprisingly well. I have only had pain once (pretty sure from eating too quickly) and other than issues moving my bowels things have gone swimmingly. I take a stool softener every other day and I’m going about once every 3 days. I have hit my first stall as I haven’t lost weight in about a week. Any suggestions there? Today is my first day where I can go to solid foods, any suggestions for my first dinner? How are the 1 month folks doing?

Hi, I would like to know if it's Ok that I've been on my same weight for the past 4 days. I lost 21lbs (I was Oped with 239), yet I'm stuck. In fact, my food portions (as assigned by the nutricionist) sometimes are way too much and I can't eat it completely. Ive had some issues with my liquids (since they don't feel good when I take them). What should I do? Is it ok? Should I exercise since now? Help please

Hello, So, I FINALLY have my surgery date 1/13/23. It's literally FRIDAY THE 13TH....I nervous as hell. I have great friend that had bypass surgery about a year ago brig me an awesome care package. I wasn't prepared for the frankness of our conversation. No showering for a few days...just wipes. For #2's it would be difficult to "clean properly" so he gave me wipes and suggested a bidet. He said that i'd be walking the same day of surgery!! He said the walking was the best way to deal with the gas pain. This liquid diet SUCKS SO HARD!!!! I'm getting cold feet honestly. Any and all kind words will be graciously accepted.

I just wanted to post this since i haven't seen one with the requirements. I am getting VSG in March here in New York. My insurance is Healthfirst with Medicaid and they cover bariatric surgery with the 6 month process. I have no comorbities, only a bmi of 47. My surgeon only required a psych eval, 3 nutritionist visits by phone (oct, nov, dec) and an endoscopy which i did in Nov. Every month i also have to go for a weigh in at my primary doctor's office for the 6 months (Sept-Feb). February is month 6 of the process which is when everything will be sent to insurance for authorization for my surgery in March. Hope this helps!

So has anyone but me been through this? I have been completely gung ho about this surgery and how it may be my best chance at having help in getting my weight off. It's been months of dietary classes, psych evaluations, and 3 hour drives for doctor appointments all leading up to surgery 2/14/23 and now I am completely freaking out trying to figure out if I am doing the right thing. This is all for my 5 year so he can have a mom that is more active with him but I am honestly scared. I am scared I will screw it up somehow. Not entirely sure how to explain it but I guess I am worried about it working/ me not allowing it to work with my willpower. Just scared... Anybody else …

For the last year, I've been taking Kratom, an herb from Southeast Asia that has pain relief properties. I had spinal surgery 2 yrs ago and I had a complication - I now have both feet paralyzed with foot drop on the right. I walk with a limp, as I wear a brace on the right. Spent 3 months in inpatient rehab, relearning to walk. So now I'm left with a limp thats screwing up my hip, as I now compensate from my limp. And my back and right leg r still painful. So the surgery did nothing. Cept paralyze my feet! My son told me about Kratom and I decided "What the heck". I ordered some off the internet. OMG - it works fantastically! It's almost as good as narcotics, but don…

Hello All, I've been lurking here for a while and have appreciated your transparency and vulnerability. I was on this forum almost ten years ago after having a gastric sleeve. I never met my goal weight; over the years, the weight returned. Last month, I was only 50 pounds short of my highest weight. So, on December 12th of this year, I had a revision to gastric bypass. I feel a little discouraged right now because I don't feel I'm making the progress I expected. I lost 11 pounds my first week, but I am only down another 3 pounds for the next 3 weeks. So, I am only down 14 pounds at three weeks post-op. I do not have an appetite at all and am having difficulty gettin…

Hi, I am a classical/opera singer and was asked to sing at a concert 8 days after my Gastric Bypass surgery but I am unsure if I will be able too since I used my abdominal muscles to sing and support my breadth (the Bel Canto technique for anyone who understands). I am assuming that because of the stitches it would be unwise to sing so soon after my surgery since. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience regarding this or can tell me what their post bariatric surgery instructions where regarding rest and healing. Thank you

Hey all: I had what I hope is my last minor skin revision on Friday of last week. I developed a pretty nasty reaction to the steritape used to cover two incisions. I’ve had this reaction before. My plastic surgeon and the CNP in his office determined it was essentially hives. I have removed the steritape and followed the office’s instructions. They called in a Medrol (prednisone) 6 day course of steroids for me. Does anyone have experience with taking short term corticosteroids after RNY? To be safe, I’m taking them with a 20mg Omeprazole and food or milk. Is there a risk of pouch irritation/ulcer for a short term course? I’m 9 years post-op.

I had an RNY in 2020. I've not ever really eaten a lot of meat but since surgery I cannot tolerate any kind of meat or fowl. If it swims, I don't eat it- wish I did as I know it's good for a person but can't stand fish or sea food. My Surgeon said I should be able to eat meat and has given me a couple of endoscopies. Anyone else with this issue?

I need help. I am 5’ tall and 63 years old. I had RNY in 2017 at 233 lbs. Goal was 145 lbs which took over a year but I made it. After a 25 lb regain, I had a revision in 2022 because the opening was twice the size it should be. My current weight is 160 lbs. I want to drop 15 lbs to reach my original 145 lb goal weight. I am always hungry. Nutritionist said I would be a good candidate for Wegovy. I am worried sick about weight regain.

Hi there - I’m 4wks post op and I’m dizzy when I stand most days. I initially thought it was dehydration but I went to urgent care on NYE due to feeling crappy, dizzy and tired. They took labs and stated that my labs were fine but that I was probably slightly dehydrated based on my symptoms but nothing severe. They gave me fluids via IV and I did feel better. However, the dizziness when standing is still an issue. I thought that it was because I missed my blood pressure medicine but I’m back on that and still get dizzy. Could this a symptom while healing from the surgery? Does it get better with time?

Hello everyone, it has been a while since I posted or updated. Mainly because there isn't much to update. (Just over 9 months post-op) First: I am going to go a head and admit that through the Holidays I sucked! I ate too much (not to be sick, but over my calories) and the wrong things at times. Reset- Holidays are over so I admit it and I am moving on from it and back on the horse and focused! The worst part of this (or at least what I am calling the worst) is that I still lost some weight through it. I am saying this is bad, because other than knowing I shouldn't have done it, there was no "punishment" in my mind. Honestly, I wish I would have just gained a few poun…

Almost everything checked off off my list for gastric Bypass surgery. The only thing I am waiting on is the follow up with my endochronologist next week for the results of my thyroid nodule and a test that I had done. My question is has anyone else had any thyroid problems and has not to be able to get your gastric bypass surgery done.

I haven't posted in a minute - life is feeling very normal now that I'm almost a full year post op so I haven't been perusing the forums too much. I've finally reached my first goal weight which is great. I've lost 120 lbs. I still have restrictions on my eating. I don't get food stuck as much but if I take that "one bite too many" I can get nauseous for solid 1 to 2 hours but dating is feeling pretty easy in terms of eating. I know what works and what doesn't when planning meals with my partner. I have recently started seeing this guy and it's getting pretty serious with that. He's super into fitness and is a martial arts athlete. I am recently starting to train for…

Hi all, I had my gastric bypass Dec 21st and I've been doing really well up until 2 and a half days ago when I started to experience this painful nausea that would kind of come and go on and off since then. I had to take my pain meds from the hospital to actually sleep the last 2 nights because it was so awful. I did note that the day it started I did try a new good and a very small amount but it was tomato based soup and thought maybe I royally pissed my stomach /intestines off. I also got my period which made me feel like extra crap as well. Tonight I've been up trying to walk and settle it as I could not sleep and vomited but nothing came up just a bit of foam. It did …

Hello everyone. Just had gastric bypass surgery on 12/20 and am currently on the liquid only diet. Just went from clear only to incorporating protein. Things seem to be going well however I haven’t pooped since the night before surgery. Since I’ve been all liquid since then that seems to make sense however it has me a bit nervous. Is this normal or should I be worried?

I’m two weeks out, and I have a couple of questions. 1. When will I start feeling full? I don’t feel full when I eat (granted I’m only on purees). 2. I have sharp pain if I have to bend over or when I sit down. It’s always in the same spot. I didn’t have this pain during the first week. Is this normal?

I received a letter from my insurance (Aetna) that says "Standard Insufficient Information Form". The gist of the letter is Aetna asking my history before completing the bariatric program i completed. Is this normal? Is this a precursor for denial? i'm very anxious now. I honestly thought being accepted into a bariatric program and successfully completing the program was enough.I guess that was wrong.

I got groceries yesterday and made butternut squash puree from frozen package. It was very good for lunch but I was super hungry for dinner. I microwaved a potato and pureed it into the squash to try and help fill me up. Now the cheating: -I ate peanut butter crackers before going to bed - the small 9 pack (crackers are orange) -This was after having 2 popsicles (1 before/1 after dinner) and I ate (1) ravioli (My kids had ravioli lasagna) I also increased my fluid intake quite a bit and had to take larger sips last night to get some pills down - one got caught somewhere. I knew what I was doing was wrong but I knew fluids and chewing would dissolve the …

Hello My name is Jenny. I had my lapband inserted in August of 2010. I was 23 at the time and the lapband was popular at that time. Plus my mother was a big influence on me choosing the lapband over the gastric bypass at that time. I just recently been feeling a burning sensation where the band is located near the head of the stomach and pain when during my torso. The pain is gone now but lasted for about 2 months now the area is numb. I went to my original surgeon 2 months ago and we scheduled an endoscopy which will be done on December 15th, 2022. When we were talking he brought up that in the 12 years that I've had the lapband that research showed that the lapband…

I'm currently 7 weeks post op and trying to figure out why I have been nauseous after eating and drinking since week 3 (and it's getting worse). I'm thinking a stricture, but I also have a feeling an ulcer could possibly be the problem? I have a really bad reaction to PPI's so I've been on H2Blockers twice a day since surgery. Unfortunately, I've been on them for 10 months prior for GERD and their effectiveness wears off over time. So..........I'm worried I could have developed an ulcer. My nausea is getting a lot worse (started to be nauseous to just harder food, now its all food and water) and I have to take Zofran every day. I have an appt. with a surgeon next we…

HI Everyone, I'm relatively new here but hoping someone might be able to help provide me some guidance. I'm 7 weeks post op and been nauseous since week 3 but the nausea has gotten worse. I've been suspecting a stricture but my surgeon does not believe it. While I can get water and food down, it feels like sits in my stomach forever and I have nausea every time I eat. The other night, I tried upping what I ate because I'm not getting enough protein. Mind you, I ate slow and small amounts. I was super nauseous that night and all day yesterday. Now every time I eat or drink anything, my stomach is gurgling. Especially with water, like it's trying to get throug…

Hi All, I had lap band surgery in 2009 when I was 22. I lost 100lbs in 3yrs and had a normal bmi. Over the years I've gained 70lbs back and the lap band is a pain. I have a conversion consult on Wednesday. I've always thought I wanted to go with the sleeve but I now know a few people who haven't had great success with it. I know a couple with bypass who look great and are very happy. I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation or has any thoughts/advice? Thanks!
