Hi, I had RNY on 12/20/22 in Ohio. About a month after surgery, it was discovered I had a stricture. I had two upper endoscopies and was stretched back to 12mm. (They could not measure my stricture at first because they couldn't get the scope in. She guessed it was between 4-5mm). Since I had to wait for an appointment I didn't really eat solid food for a month. I "ate" Liquicel to get my protein in. I am now 4 months out. The stricture is gone and I feel good. Since I missed an entire month of eating and had to start back at pureed foods - do you think that is why my hair is already falling out? Now 4 months out, I eat my protein goals and do fine w…

I can't seem to shake the blues this morning. I had a vgb 27 years ago and a REY two weeks ago. I gained 20 pounds while in the hospital for my two day stay....and two weeks later I'm still up by 6 (and gained weight the last two days). My calorie intake is NOT causing this weight gain....and my head knows that this is surgery trauma trying to work itself out. But I'm now sitting here questioning everything. I lost 80 pounds prepping for this surgery. I wanted to stop vomiting......I wanted the assist of malabsorption.....but I'm queasy every time I put food in my mouth. I'm uncomfortable with the feeling of food in my pouch. I'm disappointed that my body won't…

Hey all. I'm having RNY in a few weeks. My question is, do they ever take out the bypassed portion of the stomach and intestines or always leave them in? Why leave them if they're not used?

Hello...I had gastric bypass surgery in October of 2012. Biggest mistake of my life. I got to my goal weight in 2014. I felt pretty good. All of a sudden I started waking up several times a night with severe panic attacks (I had been suffering from this prior to surgery). I was on the right meds for this and they were manageable. All of a sudden they came back with vengeance. I asked my med doc what was happening and she said she didn't know how to help me. Yes, a med provider said she couldn't help me and that the meds I were on were working before. So this shocked me and I was on the search for another doctor. Was having a real difficult time finding someone to help me.…

I'm looking at the vitamins online and I was wondering if those of you that either originally had the bypass, or those who revised to it, can tell me which of these looks better? I know vitamin needs for bypass are different than the sleeve. Thanks!! https://www.bariatricadvantage.com/item/ultra-multivitamin https://www.barilife.com/product/just-one-chewable-once-daily-bariatric-multivitamin-iron/ PS - I will be adding additional biotin to whatever vitamins I end up with. like I do now. Just throwing that out there because neither of these provide the amount my surgeon recommends.

I had my bypass five days ago and today has been the first really hard day. I woke up this morning and on auto pilot chugged a bunch of ice water like I normally would. My belly instantly let me know I messed up. I've been bloated and in pain most of the day as a result and honestly...I just want some freaking food. I'm lusting over a scrambled egg, cottage cheese, anything other than shakes or strained soup with protein powder. I hate that I feel sorry for myself right now! Sorry for being such a downer, but I would really appreciate some encouraging words right now from someone who understands.

I woke up yesterday in the middle of the night with my heart racing and feeling dizzy and light headed. I had a cardiologist appointment at 8am for cardiology cleareance. Needless to say I didnt get that clearance and was sent straight to the hospital in A fib. My heart eventually straightened itself out on its own and I was send home with metoprolol and plans to get on a blood thinner. My question is can I still have the gastric bypass surgery with A fib? I am terrifed they are going to say that I cant have the surgery now because of the blood thinner. They wanted me to go on Eliquis but with my insurance it costs $370. I cant pay that every month, so Im waiting for the…

Well. I have had the most traumatic experience and I need to vent. I am almost 2 years post op RNY. December 15 I went to work as usual, by 230pm was in the ER with excruciating abdominal pain. That evening had emergency open abdominal surgery for the dreaded internal hernia / small bowel obstruction. Spent 5 nights in the hospital. Happy to be home for Christmas - but just a week later landed back in hospital for another partial small bowel obstruction! Thank god it resolved on it’s own. But now I am PARANOID to say the least. On blenderized food for 2 weeks… praying this is a one time deal. Looks like this happens in 8-10% of patients (lucky me). Any advice? Has this ha…

Hi all! I am 5 weeks out of bypass surgery and will turn 61 tomorrow. The healing process has been easier than I expected. I initially went in to get help with my hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. Long story short, my surgeon told me that bypass would be the best answer for me. I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and have high BP. Both of those are so much better that I am off my diabetes meds already and hoping my BP meds will be reduced soon. I go for a follow up with my dr. next week. I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. My sister-in-law wants me to join her doing some high intensity workouts with an online program she belon…

Hi, all. I had bypass surgery almost exactly four years ago. I've taken bariatric vitamins religiously and my bloodwork has always been perfect. Now, all of a sudden, I have iron deficiency anemia. My most recent bloodwork showed an iron level of 24. Then, after five weeks of iron supplements, it had dropped to 14. What?? (I'm not exactly sure what those numbers mean, but my doctor says they are concerning.) I know that bypass causes absorption issues. However, nothing has changed in terms of my diet or vitamin intake. You would think this would have shown up long before now. Even my doctor is perplexed and is running tests to see what the cause might be. …

some information: I'm 24 73kg/160,9lbs 179cm/5'10. So I had my surgery around August of 2019. I lost around 50Kg from than till now but I don't wanne lose any more. I started going to the gym last week but before that I also did 3-4 month at home training because I didn't wanne go to the gym before i could at least do something. (stupid to think like that but yeah...) My arms looked like twigs and still do but at least there is a some muscle to see compared to 4 months ago. All the information I find online regarding gaining muscle is all about "eat big to get big" but that's the thing i can't eat big, like probably most of you guys. …

I'm just really depressed about my hair. I knew I would lose some hair but I just didn't expect to lose so much. Even a pixie cut (which I wanted) wouldn't look right. Only saving grace is that the hair loss has slowed down. But not gonna lie I feel at a lost.

Right I know some of you will say.... would she ever relax but...... Im 4 weeks past op yesterday. I was doing really well on my soft diet but the last few days every time i eat it hurts. I'm chewing etc eating slow but every bite is hurting too the point I'm afraid to eat now. Even taking my meds is off putting. For lunch today i had mash potato and salmon all lovely and soft but only way i got round it was to take a teeny weeny sip of milk so it'd go down. Please don't slate me for sipping. I'm after advice not a berating! Anyone else have ups and downs like this. I was doing so well. (Still am) would water intake have an effect? If i wasnt meeting that goal?

Hello! My name is Greg and I'm 41. I had the initial class, and my first appointment is scheduled for next Tuesday, 4/11. I have a few questions: 1. My insurance doesn't require any waiting period prior to surgery, i.e., 3 - 6 months. How early should I expect to have a surgery scheduled? 2. I have Hypertension, Fatty Liver and Arthritis. But, I have never had sleep apnea, and when given a sleep test about a decade ago, it turned up nothing. Should I expect to take another sleep test before surgery? Thank you.

For those of you who had gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair, how long did it take for the pain to improve to a level you weren't exhausted or needing stronger pain meds? I'm on day 3 post-op. I can feel things improving little by little but still really painful to walk around any longer than 10 minutes. I know to be patient, but of course still anxious to be in the world of the living again. ? Thanks in advance!

Hello. I am nine days post-op and my pouch gets upset very easily. Any foods that I can have(soft foods) my pouch doesn’t like I can no longer drink ice cold liquids. They all have to be room temperature. I can enter in to the soft food phase, but my stomach gets upset I can do liquids only with no problem. Any ideas on how to introduce soft foods without dealing with an upset stomach afterwards?

Hello, My name is Jeanne. I live in rural Central Oregon, USA, with my husband, two cats, two goats, a Scottish Highland steer, and a Basset Hound. I had my first appointment with the surgeon in January. For insurance purposes, I need to go through 6 months of Nutritionist appointments - my last one will be in August. I know that I do qualify for the surgery, so it's just a matter of jumping through their hoops. We are planning the RNY. Hoping for surgery this fall! I am 51 years old and 5'6". My highest weight was 245. When I met with the surgeon I as at 233. I'm currently at 219 - on Ozempic. Goal weight is 150.

Hi all, So my guidance from dieticians say to just use a small tea plate for food now and stop eating after 20mins. Very vague to me as some meals I can clean the plate but others I get full quickly. Mostly I've been fine with this and feel full before it's finished but today I had two small tortilla wraps with chicken & veg inside ... Before surgery I'd have six or more! I'm just over 7 weeks out, is two wraps too much? I felt no pain and took my time, I just don't want to stretch the stomach unknowingly. I assumed it was fine as if I took the wraps apart it wouldn't fill a tea plate. Just looking for some reassurance! P.s. I usually use lettuce leaves as a wrap but …

I have written about this problem many times but no one seemed to know or have an advise that I haven't tried. With the foul smelling stool I have been complaining of soft-runny stools that are also pale in color. Everytime I go to the doctor and mention this they just reassure me that it's one of the side effects of gastric bypass. However, 3 weeks ago I was given a course of antibiotics (I had bacterial sore throat) and to my surprise, my flatulence was noticeably reduced and was never smelly again, my stools were of a normal consistency and color, and I managed to gain 1 kg (which is a good thing since I lost more weight than required)... this lasted for almost 3 weeks…

Here is my story. I spent years stuck at 210 (I am 5’2) and thousands of dollars on personal trainers, nutritionists etc. watched and recorded everything I ate to no avail and of coarse the only scale movement would be I ate a cookie and gained two pounds. Meanwhile I began collecting every co morbidity - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes , sever scaring on my liver. After two seperate per ate unsuccessful medically supervised diets I was advised gastric bypass was my best bet. I lot 10 lbs in the lead up (5 days a week of boot camp and strength training and keto diet). I lost another 20 lbs on the per-op liquid diet. Had surgery on March 29th. Lost…

Hello! I just had my second office appointment after my endoscopy and my surgeon told me since my hiatal hernia is large, he would have to do that surgery first and then a couple of months later he would do the gastric bypass surgery. I was expecting to do both at the same time and now this changes a lot due to time off, healing, etc. I was just wondering if anyone else has had two separate surgeries in their process and how it went? How long did you wait to have the actual gastric surgery? How was HH recovery vs the Gastric? Any information would be greatly appreciated! thank you!!

I'm 5 days post-op. I caught the stomach flu while at home and had to be readmitted so I'm writing this from my hospital bed. Prior to this morning, I couldn't keep down little tiny sips of water because I would puke it back up. I'm much more stabilized today and they want me to try to get some pudding in to get a little nutrition to help my stomach process all these meds that have been pumped into me. I took three little baby bird bites from the spoon and then had a sensation like there's a frog in my throat. Is that what 'feeling full' feels like or do you think this is still the stomach bug trying to act up?

Good morning! I have had gastric bypass and my surgery went well which was done 20 years ago. I have had health issues cone up as I get older but hopefully nothing to worry about. My brother had gastric bypass in October 2022 and he cant eat. He vomits are not even due to food but any gastric contents that he has in his stomach. He literally has not even a teaspoon of food but that still upsets his stomach. Drinking any liquids is as bad as trying to eat. He is pretty much skin and bones at this point. He has taken every over the counter medication and even prescriptions do not help. He has had medical test that show nothing and he has become desperate as to hos …

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say hello and that I've started the journey. I had my consultation with the medical team today. It went well, and it looks like my insurance will work out (fingers crossed). My insurance is requiring 2-3 visits with the dietician, and I've scheduled my upper GI, and ultrasound. They want me to do a sleep study too but the place was closed when I tried to call....so I'll make that appointment tomorrow. I was able to get all of my appointments scheduled for this month. The surgeon and nurse said that I would have 2 visits with them, 1 month apart and as long as I had gotten all my testing done by then we would schedule the surgery after…

Hi all. I am very pre-op, but I am planning to have hiatal hernia repair done at the same time as the bariatric surgery. It will be months before I have a chance to meet with a surgeon and I'm not finding great information beyond the surgery taking a little bit longer and potentially some additional discomfort post-op. Has anyone had this combo and how do you think recovery and post-op life differed compared to those who just had the weight loss surgery?
