Hi everyone! I had gastric bypass on May 10th. I have lost 60 pounds. I struggle because even this far out ( almost 3 months) I puke a lot which is really discouraging. I’m existing on high protein Greek yogurt, protein shakes, baked and mashed potatoes. I can eat some ground beef. No bread, chicken, eggs and several other things. My surgeon says it’s normal and to just reintroduce foods again later. I do not want to be regretful but sometimes I am. Anyway just being transparent and looking for encouragement. I am happy with the weight loss though. I just don’t want to exist on yogurt the rest of my life. ?

I’m hungry. Lol I miss chewing food. I’m only on day 8 post op. Chewing jello is not the same. It’s not like chicken. Lol Drinking my protein all day long is getting old really fast. Sigh… #justventing

Like the title says. I’ve lost 110 pounds and have another 20 to go to be a ‘normal’ BMI. 14 months post op. However my calorie intake has shot up as I’m hungry again. Now eating between 1300 to 1500 a day. I’m tall (5ft 9). I guess I’m panicking that the days of 1200 calories and lower are gone and from here on in it’s about slow weight loss and/or maintenance. I feel like I’m heating so much at 1500 calories but logically I know I’m not. But it’s frightening. I work out two to three times a week and walk loads. Am I eating too much now? Did anyone else panic as more calories came into your eating habits.

In my 7th week post-op and I finally felt like everything came together today. I felt good, I had a great workout, my nutrition was on point and I only have 8oz of water left to drink for the day. I have to celebrate this win today - there were days of struggle and hating the protein drinks, and craving crunchy carbs, but I got through it and that lets me know I can get through hard times and cravings! it’s been so hard to get to 700-800 calories and get all my water in - but I did it today! make sure to celebrate those wins!!

Day 4 post-op. I'm more sore than expected, especially from my upper right quadrant (abdomen). I did have a liver biopsy so I wonder if that is adding to it. I had the gastric bypass. I also have HORRIBLE hives on abdomen because I'm allergic to the scrub, benzoin...you name it. That alone is miserable. I gained 9 lbs (nine!) immediately after surgery. I'm sure it's from all the IV fluids. But I've lost most of that. Also, I am required to give myself injections in my belly for 2 weeks to decrease the risk of blood clots. Continuing another 2 weeks of clear liquid diet w/protein drinks; I'm ready to advance this diet, that's for sure. All in all, I'm glad I did…

Does anyone have any tips on getting more water/fluids in? I use sugar-free drink mixes and sugar-free sports drinks all the time but I still can't get enough fluids. I have a water tracking app and a 64oz water bottle but is there anything else that I can do or use? Any help is appreciated

Since my surgery, I cannot eat dried pastas or white, brown, red or black (forbidden) rice. But I CAN eat fresh pasta and wild rice and all wheat grains and many other grains. My understanding is that the ones I can't eat continue to expand after eating, and that's painful with a tiny stomach pouch. So, did some research. Rice and dried pastas can expand up to six times their dry volume either during cooking or after eating. Fresh pastas still are about halfway to the expanded volume before cooking and double when cooked, so are DONE EXPANDING when eaten, so won't cause pain or nausea when consumed. Rice pudding and risotto have also fully expanded BEFOR…

Hi, I’m new here. I had a gastric bypass (RNY) on Tuesday. I was back home Wednesday and doing ok. I’m living and working abroad in a country where I am not completely fluent in the local language so I wasn’t put into a support group with locals, but hoping I can find that here. ☺️ So far, it certainly hasn’t been a pleasant experience but it’s also nowhere near the nightmare I expected. (I know it’s still early days!)

Hey guys, I just wanted to vent how I am feeling and see if anyone else feels this way or did feel the same before surgery. I already started my preop diet so I am fully committed to doing things right so I can have a safe recovery. Today was hard in that I got a lot of invitations for food related things that I'd usually be so excited about. My best friend called me and told me a new Cuban restaurant (my favorite food) was opening in San Diego and that we should try it as my "goodbye" meal before surgery. I know the intentions were good, but I politely declined and told her I already started my preop surgery since I am 3.5 weeks away from surgery. Later …

Two weeks until surgery!!!! I scheduled an appointment with my surgeon to go over ALL of my last minute questions. One of the concerns I had was of my post op diet. My surgeon seems more "liberal" when it comes to the pre op and I am allowed to eat fruit, eggs, bacon, cottage cheese, protein, vegetables, nuts, cheese etc until two days before surgery. From most of what I've read online it seems like most people go on a liquid diet during this time. I wondered if maybe he thinks patients maybe won't stick to it and that's why he didn't assign it so I made up my own semi liquid diet with the information I gathered which was basically 100% fruit juice Popsicle, sugar free pu…

So my surgery is tomorrow. And I’m starting to wonder. Will I miss the extra weight when it’s gone? I look at my clothes now and just say I will learn to sew and alter my current close to make them fit. Or the stuff that don’t fit now I will wear later on. And I’m like wait a minute am I going to miss being bigger? I can’t really understand why I don’t want to get rid of the old clothes and start fresh. Anyone else have similar feelings?

I had my surgery 7/10 and am traveling for work. Thankfully I was able to acquire some protein shakes and triple zero yogurt but man was it a pain to track down. Does anyone have any travel tips and tricks to make sure you’re getting enough protein, hydration, and able to take all the post ops meds and vitamins?

I recently had the sleeve revision to gastric bypass and I have been going through so many emotions. First, I was really beating myself up about not losing what I thought I "should" be losing. Then I all of a sudden started to feel like my husbands extremely petite new assistant has the hots for him. I read texts... She was just too chummy for my liking but didnt even say anything that bad. Just a lot of LOL's after things that werent funny and asking for favors to fix her boat while she is a cheerleader. He doesnt respond at all the same way and is very short with his answers and they are all professional. And, he is not a cheat. I know that in my heart, but these emotio…

Happy Tuesday Everyone!! So since I was three weeks out yesterday I decided that it's time to exercise before surgery. I have moderate osteoarthritis and when triggered there is hell to pay. I decided to go on a thirty minute walk around the neighborhood and I couldn't even do that without causing a flare-up after and being in extreme pain to the point of crying. I have been on tylenol codeine #3 for arthiritis flare ups 3x daily and yesterday I decided to cut it out completely because I want to get rid of as many pills as possible in my system before surgery. Normally I would just take those and be fine but that wasn't an option yesterday and it was really bad.…

I know that sounds like an obvious statement, but despite the preparation, the consultations, dietitian advice as well as discussion with various doctors including the primary surgeon, I realized how much of this is on me and changing my thinking in relation to food. I never thought of myself as food fixated, or dependent. I certainly understand addiction and dependency from other things but food was always not only fuel, but a joy. I have fond memories of meals past; some of the great restaurants of the world, and the funky dives where I got a good meal. I'm in a new place. I can only eat a few bite before I feel almost full. Cross that line and it gets disgusting …

So I survived my first day of my post op semi liquid diet today! Everything went great until I had Cream of Mushroom Campbell soup for lunch. I used Fairlife nonfat milk to mix it with and put a scoop of Isopure flavorless protein powder and bam sudden diahrea and I had it for hours (haven't even had the surgery yet ??) I'm trying to figure out if it was the soup or if protein powder does this?? Any insight??

I'd like to know y'all's experience with sugar alcohols/sugar substitutes. When I was in my pureed stage, my diet/menu information stated that I could eat sugar-free pudding. I had one and experienced harsh stomach pain for the entire night until the next morning. However, I recently treated myself to some plain oatmeal and added stevia packets and had no issues. I looked up the ingredients to the Jello brand sf pudding and each cup has 4g sugar alcohols. It doesn't state exactly which "itol" it has, though. Stevia (depending on how it's combined) is mostly erythritol. I'm looking for some dessert-ish foods that can satiate my sweet tooth (also trying to help my 16-yr-old…

Good morning sunshines!! ? My QOTD today is about using stairs right after surgery! I live in a 2 story home with my bedroom upstairs. There are 3 flights of steps and it's a pretty big home. Would it be advisable to climb stairs right after surgery or should I plan to sleep downstairs for a bit? I bought one of those big town crier call bells as a joke (kind of) to call my fiance when I need something ???

I can easily explain to curious kids why I have cute wobbly angel wings under my arms. But I haven’t figured out a positive name for the leg wobbles. I explained “melted ice cream” but it was not satisfying. Angel legs anyone? There has to be a better comeback. The weather is hot and the kids often go home relating to parents “the most interesting thing of the day.”

Good Morning Everyone! QOTD is what is your favorite recipe/foods/shakes for your pre or postoperative surgery? I am still able to eat many foods except for carbs still so I haven't delved into Bariatric recipes yet, but I will share mine once I do! For now I've been trying a lot of different protein shakes from Premier Protein including chocolate vanilla, chocolate peanut butter, cake batter, strawberries and cream and caramel. I love all of them, except for strawberries and cream is not my favorite, but they have been great for when I'm craving dessert! I have one for breakfast in the morning and I mix it with a scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen to keep my skin look…

It's 6 months since my mini gastric bypass. I have lost total of 55 Kg or 121.25 lbs. My weight loss trend is still hovering around 6 Kg (13.2 lbs) loss/month. But from last 3 months, I have seen increase in my hunger. In terms of percentage, the increase would be 20 % as compared to the 3 months back. Is this normal? I am also spending a lot of time for workout - around 6 hours of cardio and 12 hours for strength training + HIIT + weights every week. Not sure if that along with muscle i am developing is causing this hunger? or maybe its normal? Also, lost my job to layoffs recently but finances are not an issue. So just trying to maintain calm and avoid an…

Hey everyone!! I just wanted to share with everyone some things that have been helping me pre-op and if anyone wants to share what helped them! I am so happy that I have three weeks before my surgery to take the time to really prepare myself. I'll start with In my down time now I have been reading the Big Book on the Gastric Bypass by Alex Brecher. I got it on Amazon Kindle for $8.99 and it has been an amazing source of knowledge that has helped me feel way more at ease about my surgery. It touches on pretty much everything! What are some things you guys are doing to prepare or did prepare? Would love to hear it ❤️

Do you know what a 10" south shore bar pizza is? They are served bars south of Boston for the most part and are delicious. Today, the Cape Cod Cafe (not on Cape Cod and not a cafe either) serves $6 cheese pizzas. Absolutely delicious. I bought one figuring that I'd eat half for lunch. I had it in the car and couldn't wait to get home. Started eating , and kept eat slowly over the course of 45 min until it was all gone. Oh no! What have I done?! I'm scaring myself a bit because I'm only 4 months out and don't want a big stomach. How come some foods allow me to eat normal portions or even over-eat, and other foods, like eggs, keep me line?. In addition t…

Hello! My surgery date is 08/07/2023 and I'm very excited but also very nervous about getting gastric bypass! I'm wondering what are the most common types of complications and what are my chances of getting them? When should I call a doctor? Is the pain REALLY that bad after and do the doctors give you real pain medicine? Also any advice on where to find a reasonably priced nutritionist and therapist that deals with gastric bypass patients... thank you!

I had a mini gastric bypass surgery exactly 3 months back. Since there didn't seem much activity on specific forum for mini gastric bypass (as it isn't common in US), so I thought i would put it in regular bypass forum. Starting weight: 326 lbs Current weight (exactly 3 months post Op): 252 lbs making total weight loss of around 74 lbs. Diet: Currently taking 1000 (or maybe 1100 at times) calories. Protein rich diet with around 70 to 80g of daily protein and low carb. 3 meals and in-between I take protein shake, pure coconut water (around 500 ml a day) and sometimes raw Tofu once or twice in day if I feel hungry. I use weighing scale to make sure I know how…

I’m 28 years old, and I’m 3 months and 2 weeks post op, and have had quite the journey so far….. I’ve had issues since surgery with not being able to eat and drink etc, finally got in for a gastroscopy the other week where they confirmed I have not one but 2 ulcers…… I’ve lost 80 lbs since surgery 3 months ago which to me seems super fast. Started at 297lbs, down to 213lbs. Anyways, so I’m on medication to heal from that, and have just noticed myself feeling worse and worse, zero energy since surgery, and feels like it’s depleting worse and worse every day…. Instead of getting better the further I am along…. Started to notice my back and hips hurting the last couple …

And I have a couple of questions. Why are we not allowed to have any kind of anti-inflammatories? I was told never again. I can't even take turmeric. Also, were you ever able to take pills comfortably? I was told no pills for the first 8 weeks (except for 2 of my MS meds because they can't be opened or crushed and don't come in liquid form) and I absolutely struggle with those 2 pills. They're hard to swallow and they hurt. Will it always be this way? And finally, I know there's a lot of different answers for this, but I just want to get a general idea. How much weight did you lose if you had a revision to bypass? My surgeon said I could expect to lose abo…

Hello all, I'm new here. I had gastric bypass on Halloween of 2022 and the past 2 days I have pain on and off on my left side under my rib. Mostly when bending a certain way, laughing or sometimes just randomly. Sometimes it's a burning sensation and sometimes it's a sharp pain. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Or what it might be. I've been googling my symptoms but so many different things come up. I was thinking ulcer in my unused stomach portion?? Not really sure.

So today I’m 4 weeks post op RNY by the date. I passed out today (Saturday) at an outside, pretty physical, 3 mile walk/dancing event. I’ve frequented this event plenty of times in the past before surgery & while drinking liquor in 82+ degree weather (1-2 years BEFORE surgery) This is the first time in life I’ve ever passed out. It was kind of scary when my friend told me I was out for about 3 minutes…. The morning of I had 2 protein shakes and hit 80g before heading out. I had plenty LiquidIV supplements to make sure I stayed hydrated but it seems like that contributed to my downfall according to the EMT. I have not and did not consume alcohol w…

Puréed foods have traumatized me ? When my doctor advanced me my first meal was mashed potatoes and they were fantastic! I went on to try some salmon but in the blender and it was the worst decision of my life. The texture was that of a milkshake and it was ABSOLUTELY disgusting. I never want to experience blended food (besides a green smoothie) ever again in life. Also, tried the ricotta bake but it was only good for a week before I was over it. So I'm technically still in puréed stage but I'm doing a mushy soft foods instead because I cant with blending food.... I guess I've advanced myself to soft solids (the #1 thing you're not suppose to do ?…

Had my first visit with the surgeon last week about getting the sleeve. Did heaps of research and checked out forums prior to appt. Surgeon suggested getting the bypass. Said research shows it is more successful long term and as I am in my 50s I wouldn’t want to be doing another op in my mid 60s. Bypass is also reversible. I agreed to a bypass on the spot as the surgeon should know what’s best for me. He said he has even reduced the cost of a bypass to match the sleeve so patients would not be deciding on a procedure based solely on cost. Surgery next month. Very worried about ever being able to go to a restaurant in the future due to lack of suitable menu choices an…

While the decreased vitamin and mineral absorption after gastric bypass is very well known and researched, not very much can be found about various drugs absorption or antibiotics absorption. I did a bit of research on this topic since I know UTIs are a concern especially for women. It is interesting to see that some antibiotics absorb as low as 37% while others absorb at 100%. Please see below some articles on this subject. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/754391 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32314257/ https://www.jabfm.org/content/jabfp/20/3/310.full.pdf https://www.drugs.com/article/antibiotics-for-uti.html

So I had my post-op nurse check yesterday. But I also have a broken foot and the other one swelled up and painful to the touch and intense pain when I bear weight on it. It took a lot of effort to get from my car in the parking lot to the clinic office. I had taken alot of acetaminophen that prior 12 hours and no sleep cause of the foot pain. By the time I made it back to the car I was so weak and tired, probably should not of been behind the wheel. I got home, and went to bed immediately. From 10 am to 4am this morning, I thought I was close to death. I was so weak, my stomach hurts so so bad. It's gross but anal leakage. I could not eat or drink and protein. Anyone else…
